Beautiful Churches should be placed in a special taxable category. The tax is not based on their income but on the property they occupy. You can't have a 12-storey church in Victoria Island and refuse to pay tax cos it's a church. All these agbaya churches that have hundreds of parishes but don't have a single orphanage or hospital. Even their mediocre schools are designed to cater to the children of the rich. Guys, you know the funny thing, these Muslims and Christian leaders would soon issue a joint press release. When money is involved, no religion o. Greed unites them. Freeze freed the sheeples. Now, Ambode wan hammer the sheeples. |
Senator1212:OP, once your rent expires, you're entitled to just 7-days notice. You think you are entitled to 6-months' notice? Lmao Let me tell you. they'll drag you to court and you'll pay for the extra time spent on the property. |
xreal:Out of every 12 disciples, there must be a Judas. |
heendrix:Go and sit down. Even when churches have disputes, they hire lawyers to argue their matters in court. |
lost24:News don finish. Tithe matter don go. Hijab own don waka. Fuel don dey come down small. Bloggers are out of nonsense to post. |
People are asking fundamental questions and I see so-called Christians insulting and cursing those asking questions. It is when one loses an argument that he begins to shout and curse. It is very valid to ask what the churches do as charity. Under the laws of Nigeria, churches are registered as charities and are therefore NGOs. They are tax exempt because it is assumed their funds are for charitable purposes. Therefore, and Christian that finds such questions offensive is simply using feigned anger to cover his embarrassment at the shortcomings of the church organisation registered as a charity but not performing charitable acts. |
DunlopTyrezone:This is the difference between someone paid to post online and someone who has actually run a business. From your post, I seriously doubt if you've ever run a profitable business. While you were away, other brands took your market share. Sit down in your showroom in VI and expect customers to waltz in. It's like you people haven't learnt your lessons yet. |
When crude oil prices were high, landing costs were low. Now that crude oil prices are low, landing costs are high. This government defies all rules of integrity, logic, commonsense and sanity in its dealings with Nigerians. |
Sad |
This morning, I left my house some mins to 5am to join the queue for fuel at NNPC in Oregun, Ikeja. After waiting for 3 hours without getting a single drop of petrol, I took a casual stroll around the filling station. Just beside the NNPC station is a gigantic building with 4 cranes working on it simultaneously. I checked the board and discovered that it belongs to the Latter Day Assembly of Pastor Tunde Bakare. The irony of everything is that Tunde Bakare supported PMB and also convened the Save Nigeria Group which tackled GEJ during the fuel price increase. 5 years after the Occupy Nigeria protests which I participated in and spearheaded by the Save Nigeria Group, Tunde Bakare is building a mammoth church structure and I'm in a filling station next door, wasting my hours over a few litres of fuel. Since Buhari came on board, Tunde Bakare and his fellow activists have become quiet. Imagine someone like Tam David-West keeping mum in a period of fuel scarcity. It's either they are complicit or they're ashamed of Buhari. Guys, I won't lie to you, Nigeria can never get better again. This country is beyond redemption. Don't let our religious leaders fool you, our Pastors' kids are all abroad. Even Sani Yerima who introduced Sharia law im Nigeria ran off to the UK for his children to be born there. GEJ, Buhari, Yar Adua, Tinubu, Akpabio, Ekwueme etc all go abroad for medical trips, is that in our budget? The only thing that can get better is your individual condition. As for Nigeria, it is finished, we're just fighting over the carcass. |
montvale2009: montvale2009:I'm a property lawyer quite conversant with land in that area. If interested, I can help prepare the documents to protect you and your investment. You can reach me via SMS, calls and Watsapp on O8O6379O773. Cheers. |
I don't know what is more funny to me: The fact that they beat Man Utd like a drum or the funny reactions of United fans. |
Isn't it ironic that the court determines who should stand for an election, who got the majority of lawful votes cast, who the certificate of return should be handed to, who should be sworn in and who should be disqualified from an election. We are in a Judicratic system of government. Do your best and let your lawyers handle the rest. |
lilytender:Bar man, give this guy a crate of whatever he drinks. Put the bill in the 2018 budget. |
That's Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State. |
Aloma Mariam Mukhtar was an Alhaja who was a Chief Justice of Nigeria. She used a head covering which showed her hair as commanded by Islam and her ears were visible as commanded by law. There are tons of Muslim judges, SANs, lawyers and magistrates who are Alhajas but didn't follow this madness. What I see about this whole matter is just plain mischief. There are 3 compulsory dinners every aspirant to the Nigerian bar must attend while in the Law School. This lady didn't use her hijab to any of them but decided to wear it for her call to bar. If she wore hijabs to her dinners, she won't have been allowed to participate. The idea behind wearing hijabs is to cover your unclothedness. When you do so, you're obeying the religious commandment. It doesn't matter if you're doing so with hijab, a nylon bag or you're wearing a canopy. The Sultan is talking of hijabs here when his daughter who graduated from a University in the UK didn't wear a hijab. Since he's an Islamic leader, why didn't he allow her study law in Saudi? Even Sani Yerima had his wife run to the US to give birth to his children after confusing paupers in Nigeria with his Sharia law. These leaders would be pretending to be defenders of Islanm but they run to the US and UK when they want to give birth because they want to birth citizens. Why can't they go to Saudi? |
NoToPile:I have someone who had a troublesome tenant who vandalised the house and threatened other occupants. Before the tenancy expired, the landlord was apprehensive, I told him to cool down. The tenant was saying he was going to stay there indefinitely if he doesn't get 6 months notice. I told the landlord to calm down and wait for the rent to expire. Before the rent expired, I wrote the tenant that his rent had increased from 2M to 24M per annum. The tenant thought it was a joke, but once his rent expired, he was served with a letter of intention to recover premises. Immediately the 7 days expired, the landlord took the tenant to court. One of the reliefs claimed by the landlord was that the court should order the tenant to pay rent for rent for the extra time spent in the house at the new rate. The implication was that the tenant would pay per extra month what he was paying per annum before. Sometimes, bad people try to oppress good people through using the Law. It's left for good people to use the Law to protect themselves also. |
alstacs:Wrong. The Tenancy Law does not recommend one form of tenancy over another. Annual tenancies are the most common particularly for residential properties. alstacs:You're wrong here also alstacs:So, going by your analogy, if someone enters a lease for 3 years, he's entitled to 18 months quit notice? You want a tenant to pay for 12 months and enjoy 3 months free? For annual tenancies, once your rent hasn't expired, you're entitled to 6 months quit notice. If it's expired, the tenant gets 7 days. |
Origin:How many Magistrates and Judges wear hijab? Aloma Mukhtar was a Muslim lady, an Hajia and CJN, was she wearing hijab? Does it reduce the piety of those not wearing hijab? This is the legal profession and not pepper seller's union. Your opinion or otherwise wouldn't change the way things are done here. |
raker300:It is better to keep quiet and be presumed wise than to speak and remove all doubts as to your foolishness. |
mangadm123:Take a long look at your money cos it's about to leave you. The cheapest price you can get genuine land in Ikeja with complete documents is circa 40,45M. You want to buy land for 3M in Ikeja when they're renting 4 bedroom flat for 2.5M? |
AuroraB:If in parts of Lagos covered by the Lagos State Tenancy Law, once the tenancy has expired by reason of time, the tenant is entitled to only seven days Notice of intention to recover premises. It's in the Tenancy Law 2011, but most tenants don't know and that's what puts them in trouble. |
Young03:E no go better for the person wey hide your medicine. |
tpapi:Various factors. Overburdened justice system, legal bottlenecks, delay tactics by parties. However, from experience, where both parties clear things from the onset, there's less likelihood of friction and room for misunderstanding. |
Feranchek:When does your rent expire? Find a way to communicate with your landlord tell him you got his several messages. Tell him you'll be leaving in February ending (even if you want to leave by Jan ending). Also, tell him you don't want to owe him before you leave. He won't ask you to pay for the full year, you'll pay for only the time you'll be spending there. If you do that, you shouldn't have problems. If he refuses, then you'll treat him as an unreasonable person. There's something you would do that you won't pay anything before you leave in Jan ending. |
TonyCoaL01:Look around you, the wealthiest people around, what did they study in school? You're talking about Dangote's children, what did Dangote do that he was able to secure his children's future? This attitude of blaming others for your present state won't help you grow. Go and think about what you can do that brings value to people, something they're willing to pay for. That's how wealth is generated. You provide goods and services to those willing to pay for it. The most successful people aren't defined by what they studied in school but what they do after studying in school. Chin up bro, you're one day closer to your breakthrough! |
linearity:Lol. He moved in as a yearly tenant, now wants to change it into a monthly tenancy? He better pray he doesn't jam someone like me. |
frenzyduchess:You have a point. |
frenzyduchess:Don't let your insecurity deprive you of a wonderful relationship. I cook pretty well and even find it difficult to eat out cos of the nonsense most people cook here in Lagos. I'm single and cook my meals. However, when bae comes over, she takes over the kitchen. Whatever she cooks is final. Na condition make man dey enter kitchen. |
linearity:Then, he should sue the landlord for harassment but pay the rent. |
Funny responses everywhere. As a lawyer, I come in contact with various kinds of people who show 50 shades of madness both landlords and tenants. What I do is that once an property is being let out, I prepare the 'Tenancy agreement, Quit notice and Intention to Recover Premises' at the same time. Immediately the tenant signs his tenancy agreement, he gets his quit notice also. The Quit notice is dated a year ahead and terminates exactly the day the tenancy expires. Also, I hand the Intention to recover premises to the landlord to use it as a joker once the tenancy expires. Those advising the OP to sit tight and prove stubborn won't be there to help him carry his luggage when thrown out. Also, the court would make him pay for every extra day spent on the property. One comedian even said the OP should hire an SAN, Nairalanders sha! The OP's annual rent is not enough to pay an SAN to sign a single letter. |
