Senator Abba Ali who is the childhood friend of President Muhammadu Buhari has advised him to contest in the 2019 presidential election saying he is the best man for the job.

In an interview with The Punch, the senator who represented Katsina/Dutsinma senatorial district under the defunct National Party of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 said many people have alleged that the president was not medically fit.


Ali however insisted that the president was in good shape to contest for the election.

He said:“President Buhari is hale and hearty; let me first clear that impression on his health. Those urging him to resign on health ground have forgotten that God is the creator of mankind and he has the final say on when one will die. I have seen an old man in Katsina here who was in coma for four months, yet the old man thereafter lived for another eight years before he eventually died. I have also seen a situation where a man was seen today in good health and died the following day not as a result of accident but normal natural death.

“That is God for you. So, those saying President Buhari should resign on health grounds are going beyond their limits. They are not God and they are playing God by saying so. Only God knows beyond anybody.

“President Buhari should go for a second term in office. He has started a good job which is acknowledged both within the country and globally and it is better he contests again for a second term in office so that he can finish the good job he has started. Everybody knows that this man is not out to accumulate wealth but to put Nigeria in its appropriate place in the comity of nations. This man is out to see that Nigeria is great again. And he has been doing all within his powers to achieve this. He realises that no country can be great with corruption. So he is fighting it with zeal and he is also tackling insurgency and all forms of criminality.

“He knows that Nigeria needs good infrastructural development and he is pursuing this. Look at the Mambilla power project that has been abandoned. He has resuscitated it. There are other projects being embarked upon by his government to ensure that the Nigerian youths are no longer jobless. So, I strongly support the call for his second term in office. By the time his second term ends, he would have laid a very solid foundation for whoever that is coming after him to leverage on. God, in his own wisdom, made President Muhammadu Buhari to be above board compared to his fellow politicians.

“We are prepared to support him to ensure that his second term bid succeeds and I believe that President Buhari will succeed while his detractors will fail.”

Asked if President Buhari is the only politician that can handle the menace of corruption in the country, the senator said:“Based on my experience in politics and with my age, I am saying it with all seriousness that I have not seen anybody among the current crop of politicians in the country who has a good intention like President Buhari. Many of them have amassed enormous wealth meant to take care of their people. Many are still stealing blindly. President Buhari stands out among the current political class in Nigeria. I will rather encourage him to go for a second term so that there will be sanity in the political sphere.”

Editors’ note: The writer, Buchi Obichie, questions the loyalty of Buhari’s minister for women affairs, Aisha Jummai Alhassan, in light of her recent declaration of support for the 2019 presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. She compares Alhassan’s action to that of Peter (the disciple) and Marcus Brutus at the assassination of Julius Caesar, and warns the president that there are more ‘traitors’ in his cabinet.
On the night before the infamous crucifixion on the cross, a very toughing and significant conversation transpired between Jesus and one of his chief disciples– Peter.
As the Lord agonized over what lay ahead, Peter said to him:“I am ready to go with you even to prison and to death.”
With prophetic insight and vision of what lay ahead however, Jesus replied him saying:“I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”
True to words of the master, Peter faltered.

Most of us are not gifted with such foresight, and can only watch gob-smacked, as the ones closest to us inflict the harshest blows on us.
But then, many of us are also fortunate not to have these gut-wrenching betrayals play out in public.
So, imagine what it must be like for a public figure to be betrayed by one of his captains, in full view of the world?
On the day of his assassination, Julius Caesar looked into the faces of his assassins and recognized that of his friend and protégé, Marcus Brutus.
In shock, just before he died, Caesar cried out,“Et tu, Brute?”
It must have felt so painful to have that memory as his final one- his own dear friend, plunging a knife into him!
As I reflect on these famous incidents of treachery, desertion and betrayal, I can only imagine how Muhammadu Buhari must feel, having been given similar treatment by one of his captains.
Aisha Jummai Alhassan aka Mama Taraba, Minister for Women Affairs, was recently caught on camera paying homage to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
She was heard boldly referring to him as:"Your excellency, my father and by the grace of God, president in 2019."
President in 2019? When her own boss (President Buhari) is still in the middle of his first term? Wow!
Then as if to plunge the knife deeper, when quizzed about the incident during a BBC Hausa interview, she stated:“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister; but Baba just like you know, I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku said he is going to contest.”
Then the punch-line followed:“If because of what I said, I am sacked, it will not bother me because I believe in Allah that my time has elapsed that is why.”
What a wawu!
In my opinion, this was a classic act of treachery! Yes, treachery!
I mean, how else do you describe that a minister in a presidents' cabinet (publicly) chose another, over her own chief…the same person who had made her ‘minister’ in the first place?
And it doesn’t even make any difference to make the argument that Buhari has not yet indicated if he would run in 2019. Even if his health situation has cast doubts over his eligibility for the presidency at the next general elections, there is absolutely no excuse for her comments!
But was Hajiya Alhassan’s action surprising? Not really.
In recent times, there have been insinuations by prominent members of the APC, that the president is surrounded by people who do not have his best interests at heart.
Some have even gone as far as referring to these individuals as ‘Jackals and Hyenas’. Whatever the description though, Madam Alhassan’s action has certainly proven this assertion right.
We do know that these individuals are not only confined to the president’s cabinet; but even if we choose to focus on that area, I wonder how many ministers would pass a test of loyalty to their boss. Or how many would falter like Peter? One? Five? Fifteen?
Does this recent episode explain why some of our ministers are performing so poorly in their assigned portfolios? Is it because they have no loyalty to their chief, and to his ideals? Are they secretly rooting for others? Are they sabotaging the government from within?
I agree that that it’s time for a ‘cleansing’ of the president’s cabinet. It is time to root out the weeds that are polluting the garden.

How much longer would Mama Taraba remain on the job? No one knows yet. Maybe as a show of magnanimity, Buhari may decide to leave her to ride out the remaining of his tenure…I don’t know…I hope not.
But one thing is for sure- if Buhari decides not to fire this rogue minister, he would constantly have to watch his back in her presence…and this is not a healthy situation for governance!
In any case, my advice to the president is to keep his eyes open.
Make no mistake, Mama Taraba is not the only one with ‘sinister’ motives within the president’s cabinet. The others are just ‘more skilled’ at masking their true colors!
Et tu, Brute? Et tu, Peter? Et tu, Aisha? How many more traitors are in the president’s cabinet?

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Professor Itse Sagay, has reacted to a statement against him by the Senate.
According to a report, Sagay mocked the federal lawmakers, saying Nigerians buy clothes they wear.
RationalTV..com gathered that the constitutional lawyer further advised them to learn how to take criticisms in good faith.
Sagay insisted that he would not stop criticizing members of the National Assembly for their expenditure, which he said was adversely affecting the economy.

His words:“I criticize them for the huge amount of money they are taking out of the country.
“They are creating a situation in which Nigeria does not have enough funds; we have kidnapping, there is Boko Haram, we have militants, armed robbery and so on.
“That is basically what I said. I spoke the truth. They have wardrobe allowance, in other words, we are the ones buying clothes for them to wear.
“When they arrived Abuja, were they naked? What is their problem?”
The legal luminary had lamented that National Assembly allocated N125 billion to themselves alone this year and that while the United States President earns $400,000 per annum, a Nigerian senator earns over $1.7 million.
Sagay said besides a basic salary of N2.4 million per month, they earn allowances such as hardship (50 percent of basic salary), newspaper allowance (50 percent), wardrobe allowance (25 percent), entertainment (30 percent), recess (10 percent), and leave (10 percent), among others.
The total allowances, he said, amounts to N29.5 million per month and N3.2 billion per annum.
“Perhaps the most notorious example of the legislators’ resistance to the war against corruption is the rejection of the right of the executive to choose the persons who will spearhead that struggle,” he added.
“The clear impression is created that Nigerian legislators are in office for themselves and not for the populace.”
“Not surprisingly, the National Assembly has not passed a single bill for the promotion of anti-corruption war since it commenced business in July 2015.”
On Thursday September 7, Senate lambasted the Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Its spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullah, said“ Sagay could not even check the records before proclaiming that ‘the National Assembly has not passed a single bill for the promotion of anti-corruption war since it commenced business in July 2015’.
“This man talks like a man who is constantly under the influence of some substance and perhaps possessed as he employs the language of a tout with no civility. He is probably constantly excited and incensed by the fact of having his first opportunity to find himself in the corridors of power.
“He pontificates and talks as if the war against corruption of the Buhari administration depends solely on him to survive. He once publicly attacked the Attorney General of the Federation and accused him of not doing enough to prosecute the war.
“This is a man who cannot stand for councillorship election and win. We challenge him to state what his contributions are in the election of our amiable President, Muhammadu Buhari, and what new ideas he has contributed to making the fight against corruption more effective since his appointment.

“With an easily excited man like him as head of an advisory body, the nation has continued to lose anti-corruption cases in courts due to the failure of his advice. He needs to do more work and talk less because media prosecution cannot win the war on corruption.”
Meanwhile, RationalTV..com had previously reported that the Nigerian Senate called on PresidentMuhammadu Buhari to caution the chairman of the Presidential Action Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay over his comments.

The presidency has summoned the minister of women affairs, Aisha Alhassan, to Aso Rock a day after her reported endorsement of Atiku Abubakar for president in 2019 became public.

According to the Sun, the summon may be connected to her comments on Wednesday, September 6, where she reportedly said even if President Buhari decides to re-contest in 2019, she would still support Atiku.
RationalTV..com had reported that Alhassan in an interview with the BBC Hausa, Alhassan explainedthat the former vice president is her ‘godfather’, and that is why she supports him.

Meanwhile, Aisha Alhassan’s reported endorsement of Abubakar has sparked disquiet among ministers who fear her comment could hasten cabinet reshuffle.
The Nation reports that most cabinet members were shocked by their colleague's comment.

While some said it was typical of the minister, others said it showed her disloyalty.
One minister who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “Some of us called her when the video went viral and she confirmed the comments attributed to her.
“To me, I think it is like passing a vote of no confidence on your boss. I think it is untidy to write off your boss as incompetent to continue in office.”

Another cabinet member said:“I am not surprised; it is typical of the Minister of Women Affairs. But the ideal thing is to leave and pursue your career. This development might affect our unity in the cabinet. Some will certainly not trust her again.”
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) youthshave thrown their weight behind Aisha Alhassan saying she has the right to support her godfather, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In reaction, APC youths said she has every right to support her godfather as President Muhammadu Buhari has not declared his intention.

In a statement signed by its national secretary, Collins Edwin, the APC Youths Renaissance group said that Mrs Alhassan was right to her benefactor
The group said the minister has not been found wanting in her duty as minister and warned against people trying to divide the party.

Mawi and Peterson who initiated the idea with the aim of reducing motorcycle accidents, are now planning to build more similar automobiles so that they can sell to Kenyans at affordable rates.

A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicates that the Nigerian community in South Africa on Wednesday, September 6 confirmed the killing of one of its members, Mr. Clement Ofoma, at Springs town, near Johannesburg.
Ofoma, 35, a native of Obosi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state, was a businessman married to a South African and based in the town.
Wife of the deceased and a South African, Toewry Ofoma told NAN at Springs that about 10 South African policemen arrested her husband from his shop on Tuesday, September 5.

She said the police alleged that he was a dr*g dealer, but her husband denied the allegations.
Her words:“They searched our house, his store and other places, but did not find any substance. In the process, they tortured him to confess where he kept the dr*gs, but my husband insisted he had nothing.
“The police used cellophane bag to cover his face and at a point, he was struggling to breathe and became unconscious. By the time they took him to a hospital, he was pronounced dead,”Toewry said.
Chairman of Obosi Development Union in Springs Mr. Omezie Onyire expressed shock over the incident.
“He was an active member of our union and contributed to its improvement in South Africa,”he said.
Mr. Adetola Olubajo, president, Nigeria Union, South Africa, said the matter had been reported to the Nigerian mission.
He advised Nigerians in the country to be law-abiding, united and form a chapter of the union in their area.
The incident is coming barely a week after Kingsley Ikeri, 27, a native of Mbaitolu local government area of Imo state, was allegedly killed by the police.

Thousand of youths in Rivers state on Wednesday, August 6 staged a four-kilometer walk to government house, Port Harcourt to endorse Governor Nyesom Wike for a second term, Vanguard reports.
ThisDay report that the walk tagged 'Walk4Wike Season 2' saw the youths sharing handbooks, DVDs containing Wike’s achievements.
The leader of the group, Vincent Amadi, declared that Rivers youths resolved to stage the walk as a way of telling the international community and other Nigerians that the people are in full support of Wike.

He said:''The youths of Rivers State have come to say that come 2019, Wike should present himself for a second term.
''We will March across the 23 local government areas to promote the candidature of Governor Wike and to ensure that he wins in 2019''.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, commended the youths for identifying with performance and good governance.

He said:''The All Progressives Congress (APC) has impoverished Nigerians. Today, Nigerians are poor and there is no money in circulation. Unemployment is the order of the day. Indeed there is no positive change anywhere.

A man who sells roasted meat popularly known as Suya has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder a four-year-old girl before an Ebute Meta chief magistrates court in Lagos state.

Halilu Abdulahi, 40, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ajibade on a two-count charge of attempted murder and unlawful assault, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Sgt Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the accused committed the offences on August 18 at 5.35 pm at No 1, Denton street Ebute Meta.
She said the accused lured the four-year-old girl, Alimat Durojaiye, with biscuit while she was playing with her peers and had attempted to slice her throat with a knife.
“The accused had fled with the child to white Sand area in Oyingbo market where he attempted to cut her throat with a knife.
“A passerby, Muritala Mahmud, who heard the screaming of the minor, had rushed to save her, and in the process got his left hand bitten by the accused while trying to escape,”she said.

NAN stated that the offences contravened Sections 173 and 230 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015 (revised).

The incident was on Wednesday, August 30 confirmed by the out-gone Lagos state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, who said that the man who tried to rescue the girl sustained a minor injury on his hand.
However, a brother to the suspect who identified himself simply as Ibrahim, attributed Abdulahi’s actions to mental instability.

Enugu Catholic priest, Father Ejike Mbaka, warned the people of south-east Nigeria against seceding from Nigeria as that may lead to more trouble for them.
Mbaka, who said he disagree with the claims that Igbos are being marginalised said he is sure that if Biafra is eventually actualized, the people will face more trouble than they are currently facing in Nigeria.
He said:“If you think we have trouble in Nigeria now, we will see trouble in Biafra.

“No Anambra man would let an Enugu man be president, no Imo man would let an Abakaliki man be president."
Mbaka also warned that secession will affect the Igbos more than it will affect people from other tribes.
He said:“No Hausa person owns property in Igboland. No Yoruba person owns property in Igboland.
“But 60% of businesses in northern Nigeria are owned by Igbos. 40% of businesses in western Nigeria are owned by Igbos.
“Go to Sabon Gari in Kano and see what Igbos own there."
Mbaka said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu's followers are "children of the poor" who know little of the implications of secession.

Obinma the spiritual director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry in Uke, Anambra state said, Kanu is more important to the people of the south-east than Mbaka.
speaking during one of his service, Obinma said, Mbaka has being a thorn in the flesh for the people of Biafra and Igbos in general.
