The white wedding culture was borrowed, but I think the key thing is whatever faith both are in to, they'll normally would need to adhere to it and then that's classified as acceptable. If both are traditional worshippers adherents, then whatever they do after the marriage should be fine in their eyes. If they are practising Christians, then they would need to wait for a Christain wedding, normally called 'White Wedding' before the husband 'knows' his wife. You either are practicing one religion or not. And if you are practicing it, you have got to stick with its tenets as anything outside it wouid be considered sinful.

That's the reason why most people normally wait till they can afford to do the traditional wedding on a Thursday or Friday and the Church wedding on a Saturday so they don't yield too much to temptation.
