Time magazine has released a list of the eight contenders for their 2015 Person of the Year Award and once again, they included a terrorist in their list of nominees. Those shortlisted are: Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, who as leader of ISIS has inspired followers to both fight in his self-declared caliphate of Iraq and Syria, and also stage attacks in countries like Tunisia and France. Black Lives Matter activists, who have protested inequality towards African Americans, especially in their treatment by law enforcement. Caitlyn Jenner, whose coming out as a transgender woman prompted widespread conversations about gender identity and issues of equality for the LGBT community. Travis Kalanick, who as CEO of Uber drove his car-hailing company to a nearly $70 billion valuation, but also drew criticism about the downside of the sharing economy. Angela Merkel, who as German chancellor has been at the center of major news events this year, from economic strife in the Eurozone to Europe’s ongoing migrant crisis. Vladimir Putin, who as president of Russia has defied Western sanctions over his country’s military activity in Ukraine to play a critical but precarious role in the war on ISIS. Hassan Rouhani, who as president of Iran is seeking to bring his country out of pariah status and repair its sanctions-crippled economy by pursuing a nuclear deal with the West. Donald Trump, whose populist rhetoric has made him front-runner in the race for the Republican presidential candidacy and stirred debate about the party’s future. The 2015 Person of the Year will be unveiled on Wednesday morning December 9th.

The federal government has failed in its promise to reward the victorious Golden Eaglets with mouth-watering financial packages Golden Eaglets celebrate after defeating Mexico in the semi-final of the U-17 world cup The Golden Eaglets won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November defeating Mali in the final. According to a presidency source who spoke with the Vanguard, the President has gone back on his initial promise because the reward package proposed by the sports ministry was ‘too outrageous’. The government says it is depleted and cannot afford any excesses. Unlike the team that won the U-17 World Cup in 2013, the 2015 set will not be receiving any reward package. The source said: “The proposal sent to the presidency on what should be given by government as reward to the Eaglets following their victory in Chile has been rejected. Government said it does not reflect the current economic realities.” The Golden Eaglets were supposed to meet President Buhari on November 29 at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa but they not because the president was out of the country. In a related development, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has revealed the NFF would take charge of the Golden Eaglets contracts. Pinnick revealed the legal department of the NFF have begun work on contracts of the players which would be beneficial to the players and their parents. The campaign council of Governor-elect Yahaya Bello has asked James Faleke, the running mate, and other angry party members to accept the outcome of the Saturday’s election as the wish of God. Kogi-Governor-Elect-Bello The All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign spokesperson, Abdulmalik Suleiman, released a statement on the development that Faleke is not satisfied with the outcome of the poll. He said: “We plead with them to cooperate with Bello to develop the state in line with the vision of our late icon, Prince Abubakar Audu.” The statement also pleaded with all supporters to back the governor-elect in the task of developing the Kogi state, continuing that all hands must be on deck. “No winner, no vanquished, we must continue as one united family that we are. The governor- elect is a humble man who will not discriminate against anyone within the party,” the statement reads in part. Party’s campaign spokesman restated the need for all people of the state to pray and work towards peace, stability and progress of Kogi, stressing the need for the people to support their leaders for the benefit of all. Suleiman also wished all Kogites memorable transition. Bello, who is substitute to late Abubakar Audu, defeated the incumbent Governor Captain Idris Wada, of the Peoples Democratic Party who was seeking a second term in office. The substitution of the late candidate of the APC had caused different views, as to what the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act proscribe, when the death of a candidate occurs during an electoral process.

Nigerian musician, activist and performer Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has written a reflective piece he titles 9/11. In the write up, Area Fada spoke about his childhood and his night of terror in the course of living in Port Harcourt. Read the piece below: I remember growing up as a teen in Port Harcourt at number 11 Ohafia street, those were the good old days just before our independence. I was a very playful kid, always rallying around me playmates who were often not in the class of kids that my parents would have loved for me to associate with. My parents I remember always frowned at my choice of friends, they wanted me to keep the company of their friends children who also went to very private schools like me but those ones were no fun to be with, I preferred the company and friendship of the drivers and cooks children, they were more free and had no airs about them. In those days, I always wondered why they didn’t have as many toys as I had, or why they never had their own rooms to themselves. Many years down, I no longer wonder why… READ ALSO: I Do Not Have Anything To Say About Biafra – Charly Boy After I paid off my parents what I owed them by obtaining a masters degree in communication. I set in motion and activated my dream of becoming an outstanding entertainer by building The CharlyBoy brand. Seven years of hardship, self doubt and obnoxious poverty paid off. My tenacity and consistency made me resolute in the pursuit of my dream. I won against all odds. The brand became a Force. I mingled with all, gave hope to the less privileged, those who suffered injustice, advocated for the rights and respect of entertainers, jumped around with Nigerian students, okada riders, physically challenged, military pensioners, Nigerian widows, I became the voice of the voiceless. I built a cult follower-ship, that made the powers that be, uncomfortable. Even before my career started, I had always known I would pitched my tent with the masses. The Ajebutter crowd had never been my thing! So I was never afraid of living in their mists. From the CharlyBoy bus stop in Gbagada, to the CharlyBoy boulevard in Abuja, I felt safe living among the people even-though I could afford to live in very exclusive areas. Hummmm I felt untouchable, until… My Night of Terror! You never know how safe you are till your space is violated, until you have been terrorized and traumatized. I had my own 9/11 one fateful night in September 2011 about 11.30pm. The peace of the Punk Palace was shattered. My wife and I were rudely awakened by screaming, shouting, general pandemonium at my gate. I quickly zoomed in my CCTV to see what the commotion was about. I saw my two security guards trying to contain an intruder who had invaded my residential home. In the confusion that ensured, I picked up one of my automatic pistol and headed to the gate house to see what was going on. Meanwhile I kept hearing the screaming and breaking of glasses. My wife was visibly shaken, I didn’t really know what to make of it but I felt safer with my gun in my hand. As I came face to face with the intruder I heard him chanting Allah hakuba, it then dawned on me what I was dealing with. One quick look around, I saw the windscreen of all my cars had all been broken by the intruder. There was blood scattered everywhere apparently he had cut the ears of one of my security guards and had stabbed the other in the chest. As I raised my pistol to shoot this motherf**ker, the sound I heard was, click!!!!! I forgot to load that particular gun. By the time I ran upstairs to get my Ak47, the man had escaped leaving my security guards seriously injured. Through out that night all the policemen at the neighborhood police post and I searched all over for the intruder and never found him. Since then I have bought more guns, taught my wife how to shoot and put a disclaimer in front of my house with this signage. WE SHOOT TO KILL. I swear that man would have been my first Kill. READ ALSO: Charly Boy Urges Youth To Embrace His Philosophy Our Collective Fight Against 9/11 Terrorism is as old as man. Be it car jacking with a weapon, kidnapping, armed robbery, even one chance. To spread terror is terrorism. Goths used it against the Romans, CIA used it on Cuba, Boko Haram is using it on us and ISIS is using it against the world. But despite all the fear they terrorists instill in us, we must overcome this evil. Darkness can never overshadow light. Remember when the brothers in the Niger delta began their militancy by kidnapping oyibos, now it’s big business for some. Violence begets Violence but this violence is not what we understand. My violence will be for self preservation not for self proclamation. I will shoot to kill who ever trespasses me and mine, not who I trespass. Our leaders need to understand that the war on terror if not handled properly may just be futile. There are terrorists in every country. The task of leadership is to ensure that they don’t become a threat to the lives and property of its citizens. How effective is our fight against terrorism in Nigeria. For how long will we continue to hear of bombings in Nigeria? Terrorism is a mindset and a way of life for certain people who are not just going to “give it up.” And believe it or not, All terrorists believe they’re doing the right thing for their cause. The worst kind of battle to fight is with an opponent who has nothing to lose. This terrorists have shown you that they’re not afraid to die. But we are, because it is our fundamental human right. When one of them sacrifices their life in a bombing, there will always be someone ready to step up. You will be surprised how poverty, unemployment and hopelessness can stimulate the youths in becoming creatively evil. Our leaders are failing to see that Terrorism can be eliminated when our youths are literate and skilled, when poverty and hunger are eliminated, when the youths are gainfully employed. When they stop stealing away their future. What do you think? Meanwhile, Charly Boy had shared his thoughts on the Biafra agitation going on in the nation and dozens of other issues. http://www.teebernie.com/read-charly-boys-reflective-piece-911/

Editor’s note: A recent occurence when a lion escaped from the Jos wildlife park and was subsequently shot dead had mildly entertained Nigerians. Tolu Ogunlesi turns the case into an allegory. Once upon a time, in a wildlife park in the mountain-belt of WondaWondaLand, lived a Lion. A big, old, statesmanly Lion. One day, bored stiff of living in captivity, it decided to step out and see the outside world. It was the biggest mistake of its life. And the final one. The Ogas-At-The-Top whose job it was to ensure that the Lion spent its allotted days in its allotted space, put out a “Wanted: Dead or Alive” notice upon the Lion’s head. It didn’t take too long. The Lion, unfamiliar with freedom, was swiftly cornered. The Lion temporarily forgot that this was WondaWondaLand, where escapee lions are rounded up, not with tranquilizer guns but with rusting Kalashnikovs.Tolu Ogunlesi for Naij.com The bullets dropped like oversized full-stops on the opened page of the Lion’s life. The end. The rumour mills of WondaWondaLand – the only factories in the land that do not require electricity to function at full capacity – creaked into life. Someone suggested that there was indeed a tranquilizer gun, but it was locked up in the “not-on-seat” Park Director’s Office. Some people swore that no sooner had the Lion fallen than wild-eyed locals descended upon the carcass, determined to turn a fearsome beast into an awesome feast. Some people had photos to back up this theory, but at the time of going to press no one had confirmed that the photo was not swiped off Google Images’ cache of “20 Weirdest Photos You’ve Never Seen!” Still, other people insisted the Lion had been in captivity since the 1970s, even though experience teaches that Lions like him do not live past fifteen. It’s sad enough that we might never know the real truth about the Lion. But there’s even sadder stuff. Not once, in all of the news that travelled the land, was the Lion credited with an actual, proper name. Everyone referred to him as “the lion” or “the Jos lion”. Or – shudder! – “the escaped lion”. Sigh. Even in Zimbabwe, the lions have got names. There are those who say it was the Lion’s fault. Why did he succumb to the temptation of leaving the park? Why did it leave the absolute safety of captivity for the absolute lawlessness of freedom? Perhaps they are right. But let’s remember what happened to the WondaWondaLand Lion who stayed put. It happened in the Wild Wild Western city of Ibadan, many years ago. That Lion stayed put. Behaved sensibly and responsibly. Waited for its food to come to it, day in day out, entertained the guests who strolled past. And then the Prophet decided to show up. The Prophet was not exactly the most normal of persons. His was one book short of a complete Bible; one vision short of a comprehensible Revelation. The Prophet entered the Lion’s den, perhaps fancying himself a modern-day Daniel. Perhaps he heard voices. Whatever it was, he climbed the wire-fence and dropped into the den. The perplexed Lion rubbed his eyes to be sure it wasn’t the contact lens messing with him. Long story short, in the scene that followed, Preacher Man lay dead in the dust. He was no Daniel, it turned out. But at least the Lion had helped hasten his reuniting with the original Dan. It would turn out to be the Lion’s final act. For taking the life of a man who offered it to him, his own was demanded, and taken, even though he had not offered it. The Lion died. There was a third Lion. Maybe not. We really don’t know. One May Day in 2014, the rumour mills again threw up something about an escaped Lion. This time in the south-eastern WondaWondaLand city of Owerri. Not any ordinary Lion, but a “hungry” one. The town went berserk: offices and shops closed hurriedly, parents fell over one another to whisk their kids out of school. The police swung into action. When they emerged, they had in their dreaded custody someone they called an “alarmist” – the man alleged to have started the rumour. We don’t know if there was really a Lion, or if it had indeed contemplated fleeing the Zoo (the story doesn’t say). What we do know is that an entire town came to believe that a Hungry Lion had ruined their entire day. You can bet that only a handful of people ever heard the rest of the story – that this was a case of an innocent Lion falsely accused. Moral of the story: a tragic fate awaits WondaWondaLand’s lions, in or out of captivity. Stay put and you’re damned, get out and you’re still damned. And that’s only half the story. Somewhere in WondaWondaLand it occurred to someone with a philosophical bent that those lions were the perfect metaphor for the lives of WondaWondaLandas. You see, life, for these harassed masses, is no different than for the hapless manes. Stay put and you’re damned, escape abroad (to Poundland or Trumpland or the Zumalopolis, or anywhere else), and you’re still damned, a second-class exile in the first world, homesick for a country that can’t tell the difference between AK-47s and tranquilizer guns. http://www.teebernie.com/the-parable-of-lion-by-tolu-ogunlesi/ https://www.naij.com/656614-jos-lion-life-nigeria.html |

Dino Melaye is one of the Senators in the forefront of the Social Media bill. Let me explain my stance on this. I’m not saying people should indiscriminately use social media to destroy other people’s character, integrity etc. What I am saying is, they shouldn’t criminalize it. If someone writes something about you that you feel is untrue, or destroyed your reputation, the courts are there. Sue them for defamation…all over the world, it’s a civil case. Leave it as a civil case, why criminalize it? If they pass this bill, it means if you write something they feel is false, they will come to your house, handcuff you, put you in jail, take you to the courts, where you will be found guilty and sentenced to 2 years in prison or fine of N4million…for saying something about someone. It’s not done anywhere in the world, except uncivilized third world countries. Also, who determines what is false? It’s sad that these bunch of jokers we have in the senate would even consider this…they forget they have children who also use social media. This same people used social media to enter government, now it’s no longer useful to them. Quite sad. See more tweets from Uncle Dino after the cut… http://www.teebernie.com/we-will-not-allow-social-media-to-be-used-as-an-instrument-of-blackmail-dino-melaye/

The news was announced via a statement on her website Kimkardashianwest.com. Daily Mail reported that a representative of the family wrote the statement which reads: “Kim Kardashian West and her husband, Kanye West, welcomed the arrival of their son this morning. “Mother and son are doing well.” KK Following Kim’s last post on her Instagram (on Friday, December 4), where she posted a picture and captioned it “Ready whenever you are. LOL,” it appears she had a feeling that the delivery time was nearer than expected. It was initially reported that the expected delivery date was Christmas day (December 25, which would have made the 35-year-old TV star about 37 weeks pregnant), but the baby has been born some three weeks earlier. This is not the first time she is delivering a baby ahead of expected date. According to Daily Mail, Kim delivered her first child North West five weeks before expected date owing to blood pressure issues. Earlier in October, the couple geared up for the delivery of their second child by reserving a Deluxe Maternity Suite in Los Angeles following medical reports that the baby would be born in December. This was confirmed to TMZ by sources close to the couple. http://www.teebernie.com/kim-kardashian-delivers-second-child/
