No fewer than 80 students have been displaced from their boarding house accommodation at the Don Bosco Secondary School and Youth Centre, Obolo Obosi, near Onitsha following a fire incident. The Rector of the school, Charlse Uzoeto, who conducted journalists around the charred remains of the hostel on Sunday, said the fire broke out while the students and teachers were in school. Mr. Uzoeto said the students had been sent back to their parents following an agreement between the management of the school and parents as there was no place for them to stay. The Rector said the property of the students could have been saved, but the fire service was unable to reach the school in good time due to the bad access road. “It was a serious fire incident. Nobody can say exactly what happened or how it happened, but everyone was in school. “We can only speculate about the real cause, but we thank God that no life was lost. “About 80 students are housed in the two wings of the hostel; we cannot quantify the extent of damage as virtually everything the students had in the hostel was lost,” he said. According to him, the bedding, the entire roof of the building and even the structure of the building were destroyed by the fire. “The fire services would have reached here much earlier, but on their way, they discovered that they could not access the place because of bad road leading to this place. “After meandering through the markets with all the difficulties, before they came here, we were already counting our losses. “I think if the roads were good, they would have reached here much earlier. “They made efforts as human beings but they could not jump, they could not fly, and that reduced the chances of rescue,” he said. Mr. Uzoeto called on government, corporate organisations and kind individuals to come to the aid of the school to enable it to commence its normal academic activities. “The assistance we need is obvious, it is a private mission school built with the best intention, but the resources are not there like before. “We need help from government, organisations and individuals to recover from this colossal loss,” he said. Don Bosco Secondary School, Obosi is an educational institute, managed by the Salesian Priests of the Catholic Church, and is one of the three in Nigeria. Chelsea have begun negotiating with Shakhtar Donesk to sign its Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira in the January transfer window. Alex Teixeira Alex Teixeira The Independent UK reports that the Blues want to add firepower upfront with the current options available not adding goal to the game. Diego Costa has been misfiring all season (looks more interested in picking up fight with opposition defenders), Radamel Falcao has seen his impact reduced due to injuries while Loic Remy, who always seems to find the net, not given a good run of games. Meanwhile Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu says his star player could be worth much more than €40m. READ ALSO: FIFA Could Ban Real, Atletico Madrid – Blatter He said: “Alex is now worth more than €40m. I think at the end of the season, were he to continue his performance, his value is €50m [£36.3m]. “If he were playing in a more competitive league, his transfer would be at the same level as that of Di Maria.” The 25 year old Brazilian has already scored 22 goals in 15 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League. According to the Independent, Teixeira, says a move to England is “his dream” despite interest from Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite Chelsea’s abysmal season to date and the injury to key player Eden Hazard, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already he will not be looking to spend money in the January transfer window. Chelsea’s defeat at Leicester last weekend leaves the Blues just one point above the relegation zone in what has been an uneventful season for the club. Chelsea will travel to Sunderland for their next Premier League match.

Photos: Woman loses her mother & fiancé in a car crash 3 hours after giving birth Crystal Matrau-Belt gave birth to son Jeremiah on Saturday, December 13, following an emergency C-section at Bronson Medical Hospital in Kalamazoo. She called her fiancé, Emil Skokan III, 34, and told him to head to the hospital. Her mother Peggy Nichols, 53, was traveling to Matrau-Belt's house at the time, so she and Skokan decided to ride to the hospital together. "I got a text from (Emil), 'Do you want me to bring up anything?' and just said I'll meet you up there and that he loved me," she said in an interview with Karamazoo Gazette on Monday. Three hours after she had her son, Crystal Matrau-Belt still hadn't seen her fiancé or her mother in the sea of other family members who had come to meet the new baby. "I asked my stepdad, 'Do you know where Emil is?'" Matrau-Belt recalled. "My dad said, 'Honey, that's what we need to talk to you about.' I just all of a sudden had a sinking feeling something was wrong. I just didn't know that it was my fiancé and my mom." Matrau-Belt's fiancé, Skokan had been driving himself and Matrau-Belt's mother, to the hospital for the birth of his son just before 4 p.m. Saturday, when he lost control on a stretch of South 26th Street near Cork Street in Comstock Township. The car hit a tree, killing Skokan and Nichols. "Losing two of the most important people in my life at the same time as bringing a child into the world, it's like happy and the most heartbreaking thing," Matrau-Belt said. "I waited so long to be able to have a child, and to have a child but then have two things ripped out of my life, it's just really hard to deal with and even process." Jeremiah came into the world a bit unexpectedly. Matrau-Belt, 24, had gone to her doctor for a checkup Friday afternoon, but because of her high blood pressure and because she was already 39 weeks along, her doctor decided it was time to send her to the labor and delivery unit to be induced. Matrau-Belt was still in labor Saturday and got an epidural. Not long after, she had a bit of a scare when her blood pressure dropped and she blacked out. She was stabilized, but her labor wasn't progressing and she didn't want to put the baby at any more stress, so she opted for a C-section. Shortly after she had the scare, she contacted her fiancé and told him to head to the hospital. Peggy Nichols happened to be on the way to Matrau-Belt's house and then planned to head to the hospital, so she and Skokan rode together. "I got a text from (Emil), 'Do you want me to bring up anything?' and just said I'll meet you up there and that he loved me," Crystal said. That was the last time she heard from her fiancé. Once she decided to go for the C-section she again tried to contact Skokan, but couldn't reach him. That in and of itself wasn't unsusual, but Matrau-Belt said she felt something was amiss. "They had brought my stepdad out of the room, but no one told me anything," Matrau-Belt said. "I couldn't get a hold of them. Instead of stressing me out, they just really wanted me to go and get the C-section done." Matrau-Belt's stepmother stayed with her during the delivery. While she was in recovery, other family members came to visit. Once she was out of recovery, her aunt took Jeremiah out of the room and Matrau-Belt questioned where her fiancé and mother were. Matrau-Belt and Skokan had spent her whole pregnancy disagreeing on the name for their son. On Friday, when it was evident the baby was coming sooner rather than later, she suggested Jeremiah. "We actually for the first time decided on a name together," Matrau-Belt said, pausing to wipe away tears. Matrau-Belt and Skokan decided Jeremiah's middle name would be James, after her stepfather's middle name. Matrau-Belt, a Kalamazoo native, and Skokan, a Parchment native, had plans for their future together. They wanted to move out of their home in Pavilion Estates. "He had told me a few months back that he wanted to get married, but he wanted to make sure I was ready, so we could all have the same last name," Matrau-Belt said. She stopped, sobbing. "He wanted to step up and make sure he was a good father to him," Matrau-Belt said. Matrau-Belt described her fiance as "caring, hard-working, really smart." He would have celebrated his 35th birthday Sunday. He loved tinkering with his fish tank and their 20-plus fish. Along with Jeremiah, Skokan is survived by two other sons, Emil Skokan IV and Kayden Skokan, according to his obituary. Source: Kalamazoo Gazette

Justice Edis of Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday refused to release $85 million (N17 billion) to Malabu, a fraudulent company controlled by Nigeria’s former petroleum minister, Dan Etete. According to a British judge, the Southwark Crown Court had failed to follow proper procedures in securing the freezing. Justice Edis said he was not sure the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan acted in Nigeria’s interest when it approved the transfer of the money to Malabu. “That investigation is not complete (and appears to be still at quite an early stage). Precisely because I cannot reach firm factual conclusions, I cannot simply assume that the FGN which was in power in 2011 and subsequently until 2015 rigorously defended the public interest of the people of Nigeria in all respects,” the judge said. Earlier, the Jonathan administration controversially approved the transfer of $1.092 billion from Nigeria’s JP Morgan account in London to Nigerian accounts controlled by Malabu. The former attorney general of the federation, Mohammed Adoke, and the former minister of state for finance, Yerima Ngama, signed the documents approving the transfer to Malabu. The money was paid by global oil giants, Shell and ENi, for Africa’s richest oil bloc, OPL 245. Antonio Tricarico of Re:Common said: “$85 million paid by Eni and Shell for the benefit of Dan Etete’s company Malabu remains frozen in London. The time has come that Eni and Shell come clean about what they knew about this deal and who else this money was intended for.” The fraudulent deal, shaded in various layers of corruption, has been condemned by Nigerians and international transparency advocates and is being investigated by authorities in four different countries. Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks go together like peanut butter and jam, salt and pepper, and every other great combination you could think of. Not only have they both aged gracefully, but they are still together. This is a long time for normal people, not to mention residents of Hollywood. They have now been together for an astounding 27 years (that’s, like, 200 in Hollywood)! Tom has been asked about his marriage and the couple’s “secret” to longevity. His answer is both surprising and inspiring. No, “Bird” Is Not The Word The two agree that they got married for “all the right reasons.” Their mutual feelings of familiarity and homeyness when together made for the strongest of soft places to fall. Tom said, “When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of a, ‘Hey, this is the place!’ I felt that anyway.” No, "Bird" Is Not The Word Love Being Together Added to their “secret” to lifelong love is simply wanting to be together. A lot. “Life is one damn thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it,” says Hanks.

Twitter has sent warnings to a number of users that their accounts may have been hacked by “state-sponsored actors”. It is the first time that the social media company has issued such a warning. Twitter emailed users to say that the hackers may have sought their email or IP addresses, or phone numbers, which it recently began collecting. The number of accounts affected by the suspected hack is unclear. Coldhak, a Canadian non-profit organisation, said it had received a warning from Twitter. “We believe that these actors (possibly associated with a government) may have been trying to obtain information such as email addresses, IP addresses, and/or phone numbers,” the email stated. “At this time, we have no evidence they obtained your account information, but we’re actively investigating this matter. We wish we had more we could share, but we don’t have any additional information we can provide at this time.” The Chinese and North Korean governments are thought to be responsible for some cyber hacking of western companies and governments. Some IT experts say the hackers who breached Sony’s computer network late last year and leaked huge amounts of confidential information were backed by the North Korean state. Pyongyang has consistently denied involvement in the security breach. James Lewis, a cybersecurity expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC, said that government-backed attackers have far greater resources at their disposal than criminal hacker gangs. They may be able to use other measures such as human agents or communications intercepts to successfully bypass any security measures, he said.
