Politics / “who Cares If Fashola Is A Muslim?” – Banky W Slams Religious Zoning In Politica by mrthad: 1:19pm On Dec 17, 2014
Banky W (5)

R&B singer, Banky W has reacted to the notion that Muslim-Muslim ticket for a presidential candidate and his Vice would not fly in Nigeria. According to the singer, it doesn’t really matter what religion a leader belongs so long as he does the needful. He also stressed that his choice was Fashola as Buhari’s running mate since it does not matter whether the Lagos state Governor was a Christian or Muslim, since he knows his onions.

Banky W who took to twitter some moments ago said, “It should be Fashola….I don’t care about my leader’s tribe, religion, or whatever jargon they keep feeding us.,Zoning. Religion-ing. It’s all crap…Some of my mentors, clients, business partners, colleagues are from different tribes and religions than mine. What difference does it make? I don’t choose who to do business with based on if they’re from my village. I don’t choose who to associate with based on their religion. Who cares if Fashola is a muslim? Didn’t we vote him
into power in Lagos? Did the fact that he’s muslim affect the way he leads the state?”

Citing the late M.K.O Abiola as an example, he said “Tribe… Religion… these are just tools people use to divide us. And then we wonder why we’re in the same position decades later. Abiola won the election (in a LAND SLIDE) on a muslim-muslim ticket. Wasn’t that the same country? It didn’t matter then. Why does it now? They brainwash us into thinking these things matter… and then we wonder why we’re still here facing the same problems as a nation. May God save Nigeria.” He quipped.

The All Progressive Party’s presidential candidate, Buhari is expected to announce his running mate today.
Those in contention for the post are: Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Adams Oshiomole and Babatunde Fashola.
However, there are high indications that it won’t be governor Fashola of Lagos state due to his Islamic background.
Politics / Delta EPZ Project Crisis: Tompolo Denies Any Involvement, Blames Uduaghan, keyamo by mrthad: 9:16am On Nov 21, 2014
Ex-militant Ekpemupolo, (alias Tompolo) has denied any involvement in the $16 billion Export Processing Zone (EPZ) project crisis rocking Delta State. In a bid to clear himself of any wrong doing, Tompolo released a statement yesterday where he accused the current Delta state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan and his predecessor, James Ibori of trying to use the project to collect the land belonging to his people, the Ijaws of Gbaramatu kingdom. He also accused human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo of being used to blackmail his person. See the long statement after the cut...

RE: DELTA EPZ AND MATTERS ARISING MY TAKE IS ON JUSTICE, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS
So much has been said about the $16 Billion Export Processing Zone (EPZ) which is meant to galvanize Nigeria’s economic growth through adequate gas processing and supply, using our dear Delta State as the hub. For one, I am happy as a Deltan that this laudable project is being planned and nurtured in my time, especially on the heels of our fight for the need by government to industrialize and enhance our economic well-being in the oil-rich Niger Delta Region. Nonetheless, I am not persuaded by the nebulous and loudly-echoed ‘economic and industrial gains’ slogan being orchestrated by some forces hiding under the EPZ Project to re-launch a back-door move for the acquisition of lands belonging to the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. In this regard, I stand on the side of my people as I have always done, to ensure that the voice of reason was raised and heard by the powers that be. As a peace-loving Kingdom, the people of Gbaramatu had used all civil and legal means to ensure that justice was done by the federal government by not going ahead with the planned ground-breaking ceremony in the face of clear injustice, unfairness and inequity. As a result, many insinuations and perverted comments have been made by both interested and rented parties to the effect that ethnic colourations have been brought to the fore by linking the justifiable postponement of the ground-breaking to President Goodluck Jonathan’s ‘soft-spot’ for the Ijaws of Gbaramatu Kingdom. It should be noted however, that the struggle of the people Gbaramatu Kingdom for both political and economic rights pre-dates the Jonathan Presidency. History is replete with courses of events as far as the struggle of the oppressed people of Gbaramatu Kingdom is concerned. It is no longer news to all that our Itsekiri neighbours, using all advantages of being in government and power since the time of former governor, Chief James Ibori(whose mother is Itsekiri) as well as the incumbent governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan(also an Itsekiri) who both as commissioner and later Secretary to State Government under Ibori, cannot insulate himself from the calculated attempt by the government-backed Itsekiri’s attempts to enslave Gbaramatu Kingdom. It should therefore be placed on record that if the belief of the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom in their just and fair struggle saw them through thick and thin since the time of Ibori till date, the same spirit still lives on; and such does not need the ‘soft spot’ of a Nigerian President of Ijaw extraction to take the people to their rightful place. It was (still) this belief in a just and fair struggle that in spite of glaring attempts by both Ibori (then) and Uduaughan (now) to exterminate the Gbaramatu Kingdom to the advantage of their kinsmen, I made conscious efforts to respect the institution they represent. In essence, I refrained from abusing their persons as some Itsekiri leaders have mindlessly done in the case of the postponement of the ground-breaking ceremony by the President. Perhaps, it is unfortunate to note that all those Itsekiri leaders, especially Pa J.O. Ayomike who betrayed uncontrollable and misplaced sentiments by abusing the person of the president and calling for his resignation would have achieved better things and indeed, much development would have come to their impoverished Itsekiri villages if such energy was deployed to ginger their son, who is now governor, to bring development to their areas. The Ayomikes of this world should rather be expressing worry and bury their heads in shame that the over 12 years of their sons in government and power in Delta State are more of curses than blessings to their people. The case of those vilifying President Jonathan is that of bottled-up anger and transferred aggression ordinarily targeted at those who looked the other way in the face of the sufferings of their people to a man who tried to do justice by listening to all sides of an issue. What Does Festus Keyamo Want? This question has become imperative in view of the rented roles the Lagos-based Lawyer has played in the last couple of weeks in the affairs of the state especially as they relate to the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. Before now, I had seen Keyamo as a young promising lawyer whose passion to fight oppression was unquenchable. I see him as a brother and friend because there is still time for him to stratify rented and commercialized struggle from passionate human and civil rights crusade. As a matter of fact, Keyamo’s continuous linkage with me to purported attempts close crime is unacceptable to me. At best, Keyamo knows too well that those whose flair for injustice I fight against, those who have been severally linked to murders in Delta State who today are his latter-day friends, are not men of conscience. As a human rights lawyer (as claimed by Keyamo), his efforts to unearth the killers of Onokpite Ogbe were applauded by many, including me. I was even tempted to disbelieve others when accusations of ‘unpalatable practices’ trailed Keyamo’s sudden u-turn to abandon the Onokpite’s case. But today, I have no reason to disbelieve such against the backdrop of Keyamo’s role in the orchestrated EPZ Crisis. In the face of Keyamo’s sudden u-turn in character, it is absurd to ask him if would have not have done what I did on behalf of my people should he find himself in my shoes. I therefore find very curious Keyamo’s attempt to demonize me especially when it is obvious that since I willingly embraced the Federal Government Amnesty offer, I have selflessly, at high risks too, contributed to the enhancement of peace and security in the entire Niger-Delta Region. I will therefore urge Keyamo to be on the side of truth and justice rather than being on the side of injustice because conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it. Conclusion: My appeal to all men of conscience is to ensure that justice and fairness are made the cornerstone of human existence. Where these do not exist, it will be difficult for society to make progress. The case of the plight of the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta is clear and unambiguous. The precepts for injustice and ingredients of inequality are daily being planted by those who find themselves in positions of authority and influence, especially in Delta State. It should therefore be known that those who deliberately drag the name of President Jonathan into this blackmail game are doing this to perpetuate injustice. This is the crux of the matter. But little do they know that the struggle has been an age-long one, predating the president’s ascendancy to office and through the will of God, my people have been forging ahead. In the same vein, the struggle might also post-date President Jonathan unless the issues of injustice that have continually set the Gbaramatu and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities against each are permanently resolved. The Gabramatu people cannot be intimidated by any resort to blackmail, using ethnic cards. Similarly, I will not succumb to any cheap blackmail aimed at weakening my resolve to fight for my people because this is a matter of conscience and posterity. I shall not waiver even in the face of threat and intimidation of all sorts until justice is done. Thanks and God bless,

Politics / Tambuwal Finally Steps Down Forbuhari, Atiku, Explains Why by mrthad: 8:56am On Nov 19, 2014
Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal has released a statement explaining why he's stepping down from the 2015 presidential race and instead going for the governorship race of Sokoto state. His statement below...
1. A few days ago, precisely on Friday the 14th of November, 2014 a group of friends, associates, colleagues and admirers cutting across all ages, ethnic, social, religious, political and geographical divides presented to me the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for me to participate in the presidential primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the 2015 Presidential Election.
2. On that auspicious occasion, being profoundly humbled, I requested for a little more time to conclude my last round of the series of nationwide consultations which indeed I was just about to conclude.
3. Let me state that the 14th November event was neither an accidental nor sudden happenstance, rather it was another high point of similar goodwill surprises I had experienced in the last two years when I started receiving in audience, colleagues, individuals, groups and delegations of prominent Nigerians on this subject matter
4. I wish to seize this occasion to commend, most highly, these patriotic and selfless colleagues, admirers, individuals and groups for their sacrifice, diligence and single-mindedness in the pursuit of what they honestly believe is in the best interest of our fatherland. I am fully aware of the physical, financial and intellectual resources all of you have expended in this regard besides the sheer volume of valuable time and the travel risk of crisscrossing to compare notes and confirm projections. Indeed I can not thank you enough.
5. When upon genuine conviction I decided to commence extensive consultations towards taking a decision as to whether or not to participate in the contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it was not to actualize a personal ambition, but rather to actualize our dream for a new Nigeria.
6. Ever since news of the possibility of my participation in the presidential contest got into the public domain, it has generated monumental interest, analyses and commentary. I have also, both personally and through prominent leaders across party lines and beyond, consulted extensively and I must say that I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and interest. On my part and with the greatest sense of modesty and responsibility I wish to assure Nigerians that I am fully prepared, ready, willing, determined, available and armed with the requisite plans, programmes and ability, to undertake the great mission of rescuing our dear country from the clutches of institutionalized corruption, gross incompetence, greed and divisiveness. I am prepared for the great task of rescuing Nigeria from the security problems, the scandalous youth unemployment, and the economic and social malaise that plague her.
7. Given the opportunity, ours would be a clean, corrupt-free, competent and purposeful government: to deal with the inexplicable paradoxes that have held us hostage for over a hundred years: the paradox of ever growing abject poverty in the midst of plenty; the paradox of ever growing menace of corruption in the face of the collective capacity of Nigerians to eradicate same, the paradox of decaying infrastructure especially epileptic power supply in the face of abundant natural resources; the paradox of glaring internal insecurity in the face of a gallant military, police and other security agencies that have excelled in peace keeping and enforcement abroad. Indeed a government that would deploy extraordinary ways and means where such becomes inevitable within the ambit of the law.
8. The problems I speak about are real and glaring. Over the past three and a half years of presiding over 359 equals, I often had occasion to discuss peculiar constituency problems with my colleagues but most importantly I have visited over 300 hundred Federal constituencies across the country and seen for myself abject poverty of our people particularly the majority of the population that reside in the rural areas, I have experienced, first hand, total absence of essential social facilities and decaying infrastructure, where they exist at all, and observed hopelessness in the eyes of millions of citizens. I deeply feel the pulse of dejection of our people.
9. I am convinced that with the progressive spirit and teamwork these objectives are attainable under an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
10. I have carefully considered the concerns expressed by some of our leaders, whom I deeply respect and whose support and counsel I enjoy, to the effect that my entry into the presidential race at this point may necessitate having to rework some equations on the political chessboard of the party.
11. Having consulted widely, taking into consideration the concerns of some elders of the party, I have decided to suspend my participation in the presidential contest for now. I have done so as a sacrifice for the cohesion and unity of the APC. I am suspending my participation in the presidential race for now because I do not have any inordinate ambition to occupy any office. Nigeria is a country too great to sacrifice on the altar of partisan politics and personal ambition. What any one becomes in life is exclusively in the hands of God. Only God gives power to whoever he pleases.
12. I came into the APC to enhance and build. Therefore in the interest of our great party, the APC, and indeed in the overriding national interest I wish to appeal to all my associates, colleagues, supporters, admirers and friends nationwide to show some understanding. It has not been easy coming to this decision and I very well understand the frustration, disappointment and disbelief of many who have committed so much to the project including sacrificing not only their physical, financial and intellectual resources but indeed their personal ambitions in the 2015 electoral contest.
13. I pledge my loyalty to our party the APC and cooperation with my uncles and senior brothers and colleagues who are already in the race for the APC Presidential ticket: I refer to General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Governor Rochas Okorocha and Mr Sam Ndah- Isaiah. There is no doubt that they are all eminently qualified.
14. To all my associates, colleagues, friends, admirers across Nigeria, who have faith that I am that instrument for the change we all desire, I assure you that your faith is not in vain. It is noble and will endure until this great nation of ours is rescued from the clutches of institutionalized corruption, gross incompetence, greed and divisiveness. I charge you to be comforted that your strength lies not in the limited capacity of a single leader, but rather in the collective capacity of the millions of great citizens of this nation. One day, and I believe not too long away, this formidable collective capacity will be ignited and the good Lord will lift Nigeria high up where she belongs.
15. God bless you all and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.Rt. Hon. AMINU WAZIRI TAMBUWAL SPEAKER, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

Politics / Soldier Kills Recent Graduate In Maiduguri, Steals Victim’s Carre by mrthad: 7:06pm On Nov 10, 2014
Relatives of a recent university graduate have accused a trigger-happy soldier in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, of killing him and stealing his car. Two relatives of 22-year old Mohammed Sulum, a physics graduate from the University of Maiduguri, told SaharaReporters that the deceased was waiting for his posting for the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) when he was allegedly shot dead by a soldier.
The father of the deceased, Konto Sulum, said the homicide happened last Wednesday about 6 p.m. in Maiduguri. According to him, a soldier had asked his son to give him a ride to his duty post, adding that the soldier shot and killed his son before they could get to the destination. He alleged that the murderous soldier then took his son’s car.
“The soldier thought my son was dead as he dragged his corpse out of the car, took the car, and zoomed off. But then Mohammed struggled to crawl to the roadside near Asita Hotel in Bolori Ward where a good Samaritan called the attention of civilian JTF [Joint Task Force] and they tried to rush him to the hospital but he died before reaching the hospital,” said the victim’s father.
He said his son provided information to the civilian JTF about his killer before the young man died. “The next day, my son's friends saw the same car with the same plate number being driven by a soldier with another man at a fuel station along Baga Road, waiting to fuel the car. They immediately alerted the civilian JTF who arrested the soldier,” he added.
He said the military authorities had not contacted him about the crimes. A military source told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that the arrested soldier and his friend were being interrogated at the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri. But we were unable to get an official
confirmation from the division.

Politics / PDP Governorship Aspirants Gang Up Against Obuh by mrthad: 3:05pm On Nov 10, 2014
WARRI—Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirants in Delta State for the 2015 governorship election, after a meeting, weekend, in Warri, vowed to resist alleged planned imposition of a candidate on the party ahead of the primaries.
Aspirants at the meeting who first met at a hotel in Effurun and later shifted to the Warri home of Ijaw Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, were Chief Kenneth Gbagi, former Delta Assembly Speaker, Victor Ochei, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, member of the House of the Representatives, Ndudi Elumenu, Sylvester Monye, among others.
Tony Obuh
Following consultation with Chief Clark which lasted till Saturday night, Chief Gbagi, who briefed the press on the outcome said: “Those of us who bought forms and have submitted, except Tony Obuh, have all met today and we have come to brief our father, the political leader of our state and the South-South, Chief Clark. We are saying we will not allow any imposition of a candidate on PDP. ” Suffice it to say the issue is not about Obuh, but we are also resolutely saying Obuh is not a card carrying member of PDP.
“It will be an illegality if Obuh says he is a member because he resigned only two and a half months ago and as such we insist, as a people, that he is not a member and we do not agree to anything called imposition of any candidate in the PDP for governorship.
” He said because of President Jonathan’s declaration on Tuesday and based on the advice from Chief Clark, the protesting aspirants had shifted the meeting to “Abuja where we are going to issue a proper communiqué after a press conference on Tuesday.”
Business / Belgian Chocolate Brand Isis Forced To Change Its Name Because Of Terror Group by mrthad: 12:54am On Nov 10, 2014
Belgian chocolate brand 'ISIS’ has announced it will be rebranding itself as ‘Libeert’ due to sharp fall in sales brought on by its name association with the Islamist terror group, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). The company which was founded as ‘Italo Suisse’ in 1923, changed name to ISIS in 2013 because the chocolatier was no longer associated with either Italy or Switzerland. Now, they have to change their name again for a name association that is unquestionably much worse, with the rise of the terror group causing sales to drop. The company is not the first organization to have re-branded themselves because of the terror group.
Politics / Orubebe’s Hired Crowd Turns Against Him by mrthad: 12:48am On Nov 10, 2014
Thousands of people hired by former Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Peter Godsday Orubebe, last Thursday turned against him when he failed to pay them.
Mr. Orubebe, who had hired the crowd from across Delta State, is a candidate for the governorship of the state. Godsday Orubebe “The same people he hired to show support for him staged a mass protest against him because he did not meet his promise to pay them,” according to one source. The protesters reportedly gathered at Mr. Orubebe’s campaign office shortly after the former minister’s declaration in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.
Mr. Orubebe has long eyed the governorship seat in Delta State, and has formally announced his intention to run in 2015. “Elder Orubebe sent his people to go all over the state and rent crowds of people, but in the end he did not pay the sum of N200 to N500 that his people promised to pay the crowd he rented from every nook and cranny of the state,” said a spokesman for a civil rights group based in Delta. The source added that people like Mr. Orubebe represented the politics of voter inducement that has caused a lot of moral disruption and led to democratic woes in the state and Nigeria at large. The visibly angry protesters, who included women, men and the youths, rained curses on Mr. Orubebe, describing him as fraudster who is not fit to govern the state.
They also accused him of looting funds during his tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. “Why can’t he pay us common two hundred naira that he said he will pay?” one of the protesters stated, admitting that he was recruited from Ogwashi Uku to pose as a supporter of the former minister.
