Wizkid's Soco has emerged has one of the most searched words by Google users in Nigeria for 2018.


'Soco' by Wizkid is one of the most searched songs on the Google Nigeria platform for 2018.
This is according to the owners of the search engine platform at a 'Google for Nigeria' program held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in Lagos.

At the event, a presentation was made which displayed a list comprising of a number of words and items stated as the most searched by Nigerians across billions of searches carried out on the site during the course of the year so far.


And in six months since its release, Wizkid's 'Soco' find its place among the top ten most searched things alongside other words like, “how to dance Shaku Shaku” and “Worldcup fixtures”.

Arguably in contention for the song of the year is the hit record titled ‘Soco’, and it features Wizkid, his new signee, Terri, alongside Ceeza Milli and Spotless.

This marks the first time he is opening his platform and himself wide enough to upcoming artists.

The song released early in the year as the first single from his upcoming EP, 'Made in Lagos', has become an instant fans favourite and an anthem by Nigerians both home and abroad.

Super Eagles defender at the Russia 2018 World Cup, Tyronne Ebuehi said he was happy with his choice to play for Nigeria instead of Holland his birth place.

Ebuehi despite his high rating was not given much of playing time in the Super Eagles squad. He came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Iceland and was brought in to save Nigeria in the dying minutes of the their last group D game against Argentina. A match Super Eagles fans felt Ebuehi could have been more useful to the team. The surrendered an opportunity to move to the knock stage as Argentina rallied round to win 2-1.

“There’s absolutely no regrets, it was a big choice and one I can happily live with,” the defender told BBC Sport.

“My father was born in Nigeria and he is from Benin City, which makes me half Nigerian. My mother is from Holland, so I’m half Nigerian and half Dutch.

“Nigeria is one of the biggest football countries in Africa. I think it was a great opportunity for me to play for Nigeria.”

“So I’m happy that I made this decision. I think it’s the best decision I have made in my football career.”

He also revealed that fellow Dutch-born defender William Troost-Ekong had played a ‘big role’ in his decision to fly in the colours of Nigeria.

“Born in the same city [Haarlem] as me, Troost-Ekong gave me some advice and told me about the benefits of playing for Nigeria,” he said.

“As a big brother he had played for the Netherlands at junior levels before choosing Nigeria, so he also had a big role to play in my decision.”

On July 24th 2018, a candle light procession was held in honour of Nollywood producer, Chukwudi Bambino Anachina who died on June 16th after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.



The event held at O’jez, at the National Stadium Surulere with Nollywood veterans like Prince Eletu Azeez, Don Pedro, Opa Williams, Cornel Udofia, Keppy Ekpeyong and several others in attendance.


His wake keeping will be held on August 2nd while his final burial procession will hold on August 3rd, 2018 in Anambra State.

Nigerian soldier, Obinna Onuoha, was one of the soldiers injured after Boko Haram ambushed the troop’s location in Jilli, Yobe State.

The gallant soldier from Amike, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, was born on the 28th January 1988.


According to reports, he died due to lack of proper medical care. He suffered gun shots from the jilli attack at the Borno border. Onuoha and his wife got married a year ago. A Facebook page that supports the Nigerian military wrote:


“He called his wife on Monday that he might not make it but by the time she got to Maiduguri, he had died. We have direct contact with the family of late Obinna Onuoha and others who have lost loved ones and some of our soldiers in the field. Their stories heartbreaking. He his soul rest in Peace. But all hope is still very strong that our soldiers shall prevail. God bless Nigerian Military”

A Nigerian Facebook user, Churchill Paul took to his Facebook wall this evening to share a testimony of how the smell of his boxers saved him from loosing his phone to Cultists in the RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.

According to him, his boxers he wore was over 6yrs old, a boxer he bought for N1500 at a boutique in Port Harcourt.

He wrote:

I went there yesterday �,
As a sharp guy, I heard about the things going on at school �, that cult boys use to disturb.
But I really got to go there and see a Friend.
I arrived at the school �, immediately I put my phone � inside my pocket, My Boxer's pocket actually,
As i entered the gate, I saw a Rugged guy, he Looked at me �, observing � the way I was walking �,
I tried to walk � like a cultist but to no avail �, he immediately knew that I wasn't a cult boy �.

Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu has been robbed on the way to Kaliningrad in Russia, according to reports.


TASS Russian News Agency reports that US$11,000 (approximately N4m) was stolen from the former Arsenal striker while he was traveling from London to Moscow.


Kanu’s final destination was Kaliningrad, the city that will host the Super Eagles World Cup opener against Croatia on June 16.



At Khrabrovo airport, he received his baggage, and discovered that the money was stolen when he got to his hotel.



Two Sheremetyevo Airport staff have been detained on suspicion of stealing the money.
