There have been no respite for people who often engage in behaviour causing controversies as the current generation of social media users have refused to turn a blind eye.

Filmmaker and grandson of Shehu Shagari, Bello Bala Shagari, recently expressed his thoughts about the exclusion of Northerners from "The Wedding Party" movie.

His tweets were received with a strong negative reaction by a large number of people.

Bello Bala has released a detailed explanation of his comments to Pulse Nigeria. According to the documentary filmmaker,
a foreigner who sees "The Wedding Party" will conclude that Nigerians are not more than Yoruba and Igbo people, thus jeopardising our diversity.

The wedding party movie is certainly one of the best movies out of Nigeria. The quality, the storyline and the humor are just amazing. Without any doubt, it appears to be a breakthrough in the Nigeria movie industry and marks the beginning of many goodies that are yet to come.

The movie I believe is set out to be not just for Nigerians but the global audiences, given the standard in which it was produced. Financially, it is budgeted beyond the Nollywood usual standard; it consumed sixty million naira. Indeed, It is unlike the usual local content.

However, throughout the film, one can feel and sense the Nigerian culture put into play, although inconclusively. There was no justifiable sense of diversity, contrary to a review by Temitope Adeyemi on thenet.ng. who wrote “The Wedding Party is a comedy, and even though there are many lessons that could be drawn upon from the issue of intertribal marriages.” She also added, “If you have ever attended a Nigerian society wedding, all the people you meet there are well represented in this movie.” Here she's implying the idea of inclusivity has been achieved.

The movie is about a wedding between a Yoruba and Igbo families and the kind of drama that comes with it. Inclusivity in filmmaking and other endeavors have become critical to professionalism today, gender-wise, race-wise and otherwise, it is a global practice.

For Instance, you'll hardly see a Hollywood film shot in the U.S these days without coming across one immigrant or another, sometimes even a tourist, because that is the reality. It is strategic to marketing too. But to my dismay, that didn’t happen in the wedding party.

Consequently, to a foreigner, the film will appear as though Nigerians are not more than Yoruba and Igbo people just like the Hutu and Tutsi of Rwanda, thus jeorpadising our diversity, because it is neither true nor a good impression. Nigeria is a home to over 350 different ethnic groups. In contrast, to really depict the true picture of what is typical about the Nigerian elites, there was a white girl who plays the friend of the bride. It is a norm that the children of the elites often invite their foreign friends to their wedding, but how not other Nigerians respectively?

Notwithstanding, I took the debate to my twitter handle and wrote “#TheWeddingParty movie is such a wonderful development in the Nigeria movie industry, but the northerners were excluded unfortunately.” Due to the shortness of the statement, it could easily be misunderstood because it was not elaborating.

The contrast between people of the south and those of the north is relatively much, and that's why I particularly mentioned “north” because it is what I can easily identify. The tweet has indeed got some interesting responses and a number of insults. Many have also argued that my point is either invalid or irrelevant.

In fact, one twitter verified Henry Okelue said this in reply to me “how would northerners have been included if the story line does not have any northern situation in it?” It is the same way we neglect collective responsibilities. Some even thought I meant including Kannywood stars in the cast!

It wouldn't have been a bad idea too but that wasn’t my point. We must be able to look beyond producing local content, whereby Nollywood sticks to what is southern, west and eastern if you like. Kannywood is simply local, as they don't even speak English. Sadly, in some inclusive Nollywood movies, the northerners have easily been ridiculed and limited to playing the role of a gate man! gate man? And vice versa all in the name of humor.

We have a duty as filmmakers to unite our people in movies like The Wedding Party even if it is not true about us just to foster unity. I was even more disappointed when someone replied with a tweet that “But the thief at the party dressed like he's Hausa na... please manage that one.” Implying that that the thief in the movie is a Hausa man. He may be right, the thief dressed like a northerner, even though I convinced myself, and many others who believed so that he was Yoruba as the name “Lukman” is relatively more common with them. But I doubt if my senior colleagues will make such a mistake with the intent of ridicule because they are professionals.

Finally, I believe it is time to forge ahead, and act as nation. I am not commenting here as a northern representative or defendant, and I passionately defy the idea of being identified with any region but as Nigerian. This is simply a criticism rather than a protest with good intent of calling for improvement. Nigeria is a multicultural and multilingual country, and should be depicted as such for professional and strategic reasons.

Apart from that, The Wedding Party is a very successful breakthrough in the Nigeria movie industry, I love it and I am proud of it. A Nigerian doesn't stand alone because he is not one, he is many in one; Meaning, a wherevera Nigerian finds himself should put it at the back of his mind that he is an ambassador to more 350 different people.

The Wedding Party" follows the drama that happens during the planning of a wedding between a Yoruba bride, Dunni, and an Igbo Groom, Dozie.

Have you ever experience a situation where the Google Ads on your blog(s) generated a few clicks and at the end, no earning showed up? A friend who runs Google ads on his blog once told me he was confuse when he saw a few clicks that could have generated about $10 for him, but shows $0. He said immediately, he began to fear and thought he has gone against Google TOS.

I told him seeing clicks with no earnings is normal and that is usually caused by some reasons. The three common reasons for clicks with no earnings are:

1. Authorization Feature – if you are using the authorization feature on your Google Adsense account, you will only generate earnings on clicks from the website/blog you included in your authorized sites list. Any website not listed will generate clicks, but no earnings will be shown for it.

The three reasons stated above are the sole contributors to clicks with no earnings.

Despite meeting the criterial, I was denied adsense approval twice and it was on the ground that I don't meet up with adsense policies.. I had so many sex topics on my blog and I had to hide everything before applying the second but I was still disapproved

All the posts are written by me(though, so many people copy my posts which I believe Google should be able to decipher the original writer) .. Or could it be that I was disapproved because of the flirtatious messages I used to complement each post? E. g, a guy and lady kissing on the bed?

you necessarily donot need the whole week to be posting on your blog.......All i think u need is 10hrs out of 70hrs...10hrs for blogging & 70hrs for academic activities

I really don't have a shortcut recipe for adsense approval, but i do have few tips, which most of you might be unaware or unnoticed. Following these simple steps could help your blog's adsense approval.
First of all,don't feel dejected after your adsense got rejected,because you are not within the terms of adsense. Don't be late to check out your email to know what went wrong in your blog/website. Google adsense team is so kind that, they informs you the reason behind rejection.


1. Use Professional or Minimal design for your blog, because it makes things easy for your reader and Google. Don't fill your blog with fancy stuffs like background sound,fancy mouse pointers,glittering texts etc, because it makes your blog laggy, increase page load time which annoys user. Make the Google adsense team and your user impressed with your design and work.
2. Navigations are veins of a website, it is the most essential part. Make sure that it is clean and user friendly.
3. A messy Sidebar could mess with your adsense approval, Thus don't fill your Sidebar with live,fancy widgets.Just use a 'popular posts' , 'categories' and a subscription box.It is more than enough in a sidebar.
4. The word copycat should not be in a bloggers dictionary, copying content from any other websites is strictly a violation of adsense terms. Google Adsense demands fresh,genuine,relevant,unique and quality contents from bloggers.
5. Don't think about monetizing your work before perfect time arrives. wait until you get some returning users, wait until your site rank gets increased and then monetize.

7. Don't make your blog post short,and not so lengthy. Around 400-500 characters are good and standard. Always keep in mind that you are writing for humans, not for computers.
8. Before applying for adsense,make sure that your blog have enough content (around 40-50 quality post) and traffic. Many applications are rejected by the reason of "In sufficient content".
9. It is recommended not to use any other ads networks at the time you applys for adsense .
10. Make sure that your blog/website contains adsense approved languages only.
11. Use a custom domain for your blog,just to assure the adsense team that you are a serious blogger.
12. None of us love to read a website which contains mature content with family, so does adsense, except that it never likes a mature website. So it is recommended to make your content family-safe. Avoid content like 'buttocks,close-ups of breast,provocative poses,see-through clothing and strategically covered nudity and other mature content. Also see prohibited content .
13. Avoid too much images in a single post. I've seen so many with too much images in a single post , especially in fashion blogs. If you want to show your works or something using a set of images you could always approach flickr or picasa for creating slideshot of desired pics. Remember,Google bot crawl only those content with text not images.
14. Make following your work easy for your users by creating an RSS Feed for your website/blog, which acts like an automated sitemap for your site.
15. Feedbacks are well and good, Integrate your blog with your personal Google+ account. which in-turn increase your back-links and gives you a little support for adsense approval.
16. Don't forget to submit your sitemap so that Google could keep track of your site's activities, which results in your site's ranking incrementation. in order to submit your sitemap to Google you should use Google webmasters tools. You could also use Google analytics for SEO purpose.
17. Update Your Blog at least twice in a week.
18. It is recommended that you should use an responsive design for your site, or at least have a mobile version as they are in a pursuit of becoming the primary internet device.
19. Never send request for Google adsense until your blog customization finishes (Under construction) or in beta condition.
20. Never forget to read TOS and policies of Google adsense .
21. And finally, your users are your cash, don't disappoint them.
