https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16c384MkJi/?mibextid=wwXIfr By Mamcoker Decode Let me start with a truth that many of us who follow Nigerian political discourse already know: I do not always agree with Rufai Oseni’s approach on Arise TV. In fact, I strongly believe that he displays a clear bias against the All Progressives Congress (APC). His tone, questions, and commentary often seem to lean in one direction, and that’s fair criticism in any open society. However, where I draw the line — and where I believe many critics miss the point — is in questioning Rufai’s right to be called a journalist simply because he studied Animal Anatomy at the university. That argument is both shallow and irrelevant in today’s media ecosystem. Journalism is not exclusively defined by what you studied in school. Many of the world’s most respected journalists came from non-journalism backgrounds — law, history, engineering, and yes, even the sciences. What matters is integrity, curiosity, commitment to truth, and the courage to ask tough questions. Rufai, for all his imperfections, checks these boxes far more often than many who hold degrees in Mass Communication but practice access journalism. Now let’s address another criticism — his use of the phrase “I put it to you.” Some argue that it’s confrontational or theatrical. But again, this is ignorance at work. That phrase is a classic journalistic tool used to confront interviewees with direct accountability. It’s not an insult; it’s a technique. It exists in the vocabulary of tough interviews — from BBC’s HardTalk to CNN’s Amanpour. It forces clarity. It demands honesty. And Rufai uses it effectively, especially when public figures try to evade straight answers. As frustrating as Rufai might be — and he can be frustrating — one thing is sure: his fiercest critics would be the first to praise him if he turned his sharp questions toward their political enemies. And that’s the irony. They don’t hate him because he’s unprofessional; they dislike him because he’s not on their side. Truth be told, in a media landscape where many journalists behave like praise-singers, Rufai Oseni stands out because he dares to challenge power — regardless of who holds it. That may be inconvenient, but it is journalism in its purest form. So, ask yourself: is it better to have a journalist who studied Animal Anatomy but questions power — or a communications graduate who dances around the truth? #RufaiOseni #JournalismInNigeria #PressFreedom #IStandWithRufai #MediaAccountability #AriseTV #NigerianPolitics #TruthToPower #AskTheHardQuestions #BiasOrBoldness #NigerianMedia #PoliticalJournalism #RufaiSpeaks #MamcokerDecode |
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16iBjVDNPc/?mibextid=wwXIfr Rufai Oseni’s Bias for Peter Obi Is No Longer Hidden — Nigerians Are Not Gullible By Mamcoker Decode Date: July 4, 2025 In what has become a consistent pattern of selective commentary and one-sided outrage, Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni has once again shown his clear and unapologetic bias for Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party. His recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter) — https://x.com/ruffydfire/status/1941475482895356160?s=46 — was nothing short of a public challenge designed to defend Obi’s now-viral “rejection” of plots of land allocated to him by the Anambra State Government. But the real question remains: Does Rufai Oseni believe Nigerians are this gullible? A Scripted Refusal or Genuine Modesty? Let’s dissect what happened. Peter Obi was the head of government in Anambra State, and under his watch, it was proposed that he — among others — be given plots of land as part of a benefit or retirement package. Suddenly, a letter surfaces from a subordinate offering these plots, and Obi then publicly rejects the offer, positioning himself as a rare example of selflessness. But to any critical political observer, this entire exchange reeks of calculated image management. If Peter Obi never wanted the land, then why was such a proposal made in the first place? Why wasn’t it shut down internally? Why is the whole interaction conveniently documented and leaked to the media? It’s not difficult to connect the dots: this appears to be a scripted move aimed at reinforcing Obi’s image as a man of integrity — and Rufai Oseni has once again jumped into the fray to amplify it. Journalism or Loyal Fandom? Rufai Oseni has a right to his political preferences, but his consistent defense of Peter Obi, even in suspiciously staged moments, has become too obvious to ignore. This is not journalism; it is ideological loyalty disguised as commentary. Whenever Peter Obi is involved, Rufai seems to lose his journalistic detachment. He openly challenges those who question Obi’s actions, but becomes incredibly critical when analyzing other politicians, especially from the ruling party. This is the double standard that Nigerians must now start calling out. A Wake-Up Call for Political Observers Let this serve as a wake-up call to every lover of fairness, justice, and equity in Nigeria’s political landscape. It is becoming a dangerous trend to see some public commentators use their platforms not to analyze events objectively, but to constantly shield and amplify one individual. Peter Obi’s refusal of land may appear noble on the surface, but when one looks deeper and sees how it was executed — with letters, public leaks, and media drama — it begins to look more like political theatre than genuine sacrifice. Conclusion Mamcoker Decode believes Nigerians are smarter than many political actors give them credit for. We can see through staged humility and media bias. The job of the journalist is not to play campaign manager; it is to hold everyone — no matter their party — to the same standard. As 2027 approaches, we must begin to demand sincerity, not strategy. And we must reject the idea that some individuals are above criticism simply because they wear the cloak of integrity. ⸻ #MamcokerDecode #PeterObi #RufaiOseni #PoliticalBias #MediaObjectivity #NigeriaPolitics #JournalismWithStandards |
