Politics / I Cannot Be Stopped From Talking – Aisha Buhari by Muhammad2468(m): 10:30am On Dec 06, 2019
Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari asserted that she can’t be stopped from talking while speaking from London on Thursday, December 5.

The First Lady who was a guest caller on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, made a clarification on her comment about the social media bill, insecurity, and poverty in the country and lashing out at underserving governors and ministers.

Aisha Buhari stated that she has the constitutional right to freedom of expression when asked if she has been told to stop talking. “Who will stop me? Everybody is talking in the country. Everybody should talk. It is freedom of speech”, she said.

On if she engages in pillow talk on the challenges facing the country with her husband President Buhari, the First Lady hilariously said: “There is no pillow in the Villa including the other room”.

The President’s wife who stated that she knows that the challenges facing the country comes from long-term neglect maintained that she did not specifically blame the governors while speaking at the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs General Assembly and National Executive Council Meeting held at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, December 29.

“We are all suffering from it. Whether you are an executive or ordinary citizen.

We can’t go to our villages and sleep with two eyes closed. It cuts across” she said. Also commenting on her support for the social media bill, Aisha recalled how the Minister of Communications shared a story of someone calling to confirm if Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has resigned as claimed on social media.

Though the First Lady said everyone in the room laughed over the story, she added that it was a serious issue and she expected action to be taken to curb such fake news. “There are no consequences for offenders. You say anything you like and get away with it.

We cannot have peace in such a society. Once there are no consequences, everybody does whatever he likes. Everything will be in disarray” Aisha added.
She also lashed out at some officials in her husband’s administration for taking up issues they are not concerned with.

Recounting how the Presidency reacted to report of the PDP threatening to sanction former President Goodluck Jonathan over the party’s loss to the APC in the Bayelsa Governorship election, Aisha Buhari wondered where the spin doctors were when report of her husband taking up a new wife went viral.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Ajor Signs Of The Last Hour According To Hadiths Of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) by Muhammad2468(m): 8:37am On Dec 06, 2019
The coming of the last hour is not far off as we would like to think. It is necessary for us to prepare for it by following the teachings of the Quran and our Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) so that we can be among the people who will walk through the gates of Jannah. We should not think that these signs are far off and we have time but in reality death is certain and which could occur at any time. So we should prepare ourselves so that we can appear in front of Allah (SWT) with our heads held up high.

Islam for Muslims / Ajor Signs Of The Last Hour According To Hadiths Of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) by Muhammad2468(m): 8:35am On Dec 06, 2019
Major Signs of The Last Hour
According to Hadiths of Prophet
Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

Being a Muslim it is necessary to believe that the
day of judgement is inevitable and it is going to
happen one day by the order of Allah (SWT). There
are two occasions or times when people won’t be
able to seek forgiveness of Allah (SWT). One on
the time of their death and other at the time of
occurrence of the major signs of Yawm al-
Qiyāmah, the Day of Reckoning. Allah (SWT) says
in the Quran:
“Then do they await except that the hour
should come upon them unexpectedly? But
already there have come [some of] its
indications. Then what good to them, when it
has come, will be their remembrance?” (Quran
47:18)

The day of judgement is going to occur one day
but there are some major signs or events that are
going to take place before the final hour comes.
Many minor signs of the occurrence of the
judgement day have already happened, some are
happening and recent times and all the major
signs of the day of judgement are only left to have
occur. The main reason for whole system of
occurrence of signs of the last hour is to warn the
mankind not only that the final hour is near but
also to make them realise that Allah Almighty is
indeed the creator of this universe and everything
in it and we should follow the path of
righteousness. If we were to categorise the
indications according to the time period, it would
be thus:

people of knowledge), and ignorance will

Politics / We”ll Order Your Arrest If, Senate Threatens NIMASA DG by Muhammad2468(m): 1:11pm On Dec 05, 2019
The Senate has threatened to order the arrest of the Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime

Administration and Safety Agency ( NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, if he fails to appear before its joint committee on Navy, Marine Transport and Finance on Thursday.

The committee investigating the N263.89billion illegal security services carried out by the Ocean Marine Solutions Limited ( OMLS) at the Safe Anchorage Area in Lagos Ports , issued the threat Wednesday when the NIMASA DG failed to appear before it .

Chairman of the committee, Senator George Sekibo gave Peterside up till Thursday to appear before the committee unfailingly failure which a warrant of arrest will be issued against him by the Senate .
Said he: “This investigative hearing supposed to have been held last week but shifted to allow the NIMASA DG and other key players in Marine Transport to attend the IMO conference which took place in London last weekend. It is annoying that after that grace given to him , he still refused to appear before us today . This is unacceptable as submitted by other members of the committee and on account of this, the Committee is giving him another chance to honour our invitation on Thursday, 5th December 2019 by 3pm prompt .”If the NIMASA DG to fails to appear in person before this committee tomorrow ( today), warrant of arrest will be issued against him by the Senate for that purpose “ , he warned
Although the NIMASA DG was represented at the investigative hearing by the Principal Legal Officer of the Agency, Haruna Argungu but the committee refused to honour him in that capacity and walked him out of the session in the presence of the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki.

Trouble for the NIMASA DG started when the committee Chairman, read out list of heads of Marine Transport agencies invited for the hearing and discovered that the NIMASA DG , was not present.
Though Peterside’s repre-sentative made spirited efforts to justify the absence of his boss , but the Committee Chairman and other members like Senators Muhammad Danjuma Goje, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Betty Apiafi, dismissed his explanations as balderdash.

While Argungu in his explanations said the NIMASA DG couldn’t make it because of International Maritime Organisation ( IMO) conference he attended in London few days back, Senator Goje who also attended the conference in his capacity , as Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport , countered him saying “I also attended the conference and I am here now”.

Goje further stressed that even the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, attended the same conference and honoured the committee’s invitation.

His words: “Your explanation that the NIMASA DG couldn’t make it to this investigative hearing because of IMO conference he attended in London few days back is not tenable because I was also at the conference and even Senator Gbemisola Saraki , the Minister of State for Transportation was there and both of us are here now.

“Mr. Chairman, the NIMASA DG should should look for another excuse for not honouring the committee’s invitation which to me is unacceptable”, he said.
Earlier in her submission before the committee, Senator Saraki, said OMSL contract on security services at the ports has not been suspended or dismantled as claimed by the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA ), Hadiza Usman on Tuesday.

She explained to the committee that the Ministry has scheduled a meeting with all stakeholders on the security services at the Ports next Monday in Lagos.

Politics / Don’t Handcuff Me In Public, Kalu Begs Prison Warders by Muhammad2468(m): 1:03pm On Dec 05, 2019
Former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for fraud, has suggested that he has a role to play in the national politics of 2023.

Kalu, who is the Senate’s Chief Whip smiled at reporters and said, ‘2023, here we come’ as he was led out of the courtroom by Correctional Services officials after his sentencing.
He was also seen asking prison warders, “where are you taking us to?”.

Kalu then begged the prison warders not to handcuff him in public.

The former governor, who appeared shaken, said, “Where are you taking us to now? Please don’t handcuff me. I will follow you.”

A short while earlier, Kalu wiped tears from his eyes with a white handkerchief as Justice Mohammed Idris began reading an abridged version of the 228-page judgment.

Kalu’s associate, Udeogu, was sentenced to 10 years in prison while the company which was used in perpetrating the fraud, Slok Limited, was ordered to be wound up by Justice Idris Mohammed.

The case began in 2007, 12 years ago, when they were first arraigned for the offences, but before a different judge.

In an amended 39 counts, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proved that they conspired and divert N7.65bn from the coffers of the Abia State.
Politics / Sanction Banks Over Casual Workers, Reps Urge CBN by Muhammad2468(m): 6:41am On Dec 05, 2019
The House of Representatives has called on the
Central Bank of Nigeria to sanction commercial
banks that use casual staff to run their critical
operations .

The call followed the unanimous adoption of a
motion moved by Amobi Akintola at the
plenary on Wednesday .

Adopting the motion , the lawmakers called on
commercial banks “ to convert their casual staff
who are handling core operations to permanent
staff without further delay. ”
They urged the CBN “ to sanction any bank that
fails to comply . ”

The House also mandated the Committees on
Banking and Currency ; and Labour ,
Employment and Productivity to interface with
banks “ on the need to stop casualisation of
their core operational staff . ”

Moving the motion , Akintola recalled that prior
to the emergence of new generation banks in
Nigeria , staff of banks were usually made up of
full- time workers who were entitled to series of
benefits from the banks they worked for .

He said the benefits included promotion , health
package, productivity , life insurance policy ,
housing allowance , wardrobe allowance ,
feeding allowance , among others , which made
banking jobs enviable.

He said that the House was also concerned that
core operations of banks like were being
handled by contract staff .
Politics / Edo House Of Assembly ‘Sacks’ 12 Lawmakers-Elect by Muhammad2468(m): 9:54pm On Dec 04, 2019
The political crisis in the Edo state has
degenerated further with the state House of
Assembly declaring vacant the seats of 12
lawmakers-elect yet to be inaugurated.

All the 24 state legislators in Edo are members
of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The deputy speaker of the assembly, Yekini
Idiaye, told journalists in Benin that the
resolution to declare the seats vacant was
reached during plenary on Wednesday.

The seats declared vacant are Etsako West I,
Etsako West II, Owan East, Owan West, Etsako
Central, Etsako East and Esan Central.
Others are Uhunmwonde, Oredo East, Oredo
West, Egor, Ovia North East I, Ovia North East
II and Ovia South-west I.

Mr Idiaye said the members representing
Oredo East and Owan East state constituencies,
who were sworn-in, failed to meet the
mandatory 181-day sitting requirement for a
member in a calendar year.
Mr Idiaye said the other affected members
failed to present themselves for the
inauguration.

“Their constituents have been complaining and
have come to us that they want their voices
and concerns to be heard at the House. So,
people who are willing to provide quality
representation have to be elected to bring the
matters of the distraught constituents to the
floor for debate and legislation, where
necessary,” he said.
Tussle

The 12 lawmakers were among the 15 excluded
from the controversial inauguration of the state
assembly in June because of the power-tussle
between the national chairman of the APC,
Adams Oshiomhole, and the Edo governor,
Godwin Obaseki.

Nine out of 24 lawmakers met at night to
inaugurate the assembly and elect a speaker,
Frank Okiye.

Their exclusion of the others, PREMIUM TIMES
learnt, was to prevent Mr Oshiomhole’s
loyalists from taking control of the state
legislature.

The 12 lawmakers-elect have been since fled to
Abuja for fear of their safety.
One of the affected lawmakers-elect,
Washington Osifo, accused Mr Obaseki of
“bringing back gangsterism” into the state
politics.

“I have told people, this is not the governor I
used to know,” Mr Osifo, who was elected to
represent Uhunmwode State Constituency, told
PREMIUM TIMES, in July.

“The governor I used to know when he came
(into power) was against any form of
gangsterism.

“But because he is now gunning for a second
term, all those things he came out to condemn,
he is now the one welcoming them – arrogance,
gangsterism – he has brought them back into
the system,” Mr Osifo said.

Border Closure And Hate Speech Bill Are Illegal – Falana Insists

Lagos Fiery Lawyer, Mr Femi Falana(SAN), has declared that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government was allegedly misled into having the erroneous impression that only border closure can guarantee food security and economic development in the country.

Falana, a social crusader and human rights activist added that the National Assembly lacks the constitutional powers to promulgate any law under the guise of Hate Speech, saying such was not captured under the exclusive and concurrent lists of the 1999 constitution.

The human rights lawyer clarified that going ahead to promulgate such law would not only betray the trust reposed in the National Assembly by the Nigerian populace but would erode the powers of the state legislative arm since Nigeria operates a federal system of government.

Speaking in his Ilawe Ekiti country home on Wednesday during the burial procession for Mrs. Ibijola Falana, the Lawyer said it was wrong for President Muhammadu Buhari to have closed the borders indefinitely without taking cognizance of the fact that such will inflict serious pain on the already burdened Nigerian citizens.

“I don’t support the closure because it is illegal, immoral and economically senseless. It cannot be defended under the ECOWAS Protocol on Free Movement of Persons and Goods. Punishing millions of community citizens for the offense of a few smugglers is immoral.
