I use humidifier in my home. Make sure it's plugged in as frequently as it can be. I sell this medium sized bottle of fragrance oil and I make sure I spread it in different diffuser bottles just to make sure every corner to my house smells amazing. This particular fragrance oil has lasted more than 3 months in my house and it only goes for four thousand naira, that's about seven dollars.

I have visited homes with amazing smells and I crave for that kind of effect in my own house. You know growing up with me we only use our air fresheners when we are expecting guests or when someone messed up the house. Some of those cans of fragrance stays months and months before they get exhausted and yet we don't throw away the cans. We used them to decorate some places or use them to fill vacant surfaces. It wasn't something I was used to so I make conscious efforts now to have a beautifully fragrance interior even in my business. I love good smells and I want every Interior to smell beautifully.

Architecture is not practiced in isolation. It is unfortunate that stakeholders do not pay attention to designs, It amuses me when some so called "Architects" brag about delivering a design project in 48hours, It doesn't work that way.

Synergy is of essence in design projects, virtual and physical meetings should be held for validation at every design stage. In schools of Architecture, juries are held before any design can be certified fit, same should apply to real life project.
To clients, don't agree to designs done and submitted within 48hrs, there are chances that lots of details were overlooked or it was just all copy and paste.

It is about time we draw a line between Quacks, Architects and Qualified Architects

I thought the intent of my post was clear - give you the opportunity to convince a non luxury builder that you offer a service they should consider paying for.

Madam, I don't think I missed your point. I think you are not listening. There was no atom of rudeness in my reply. You don't like honesty too much I presume. I was just being honest. I am not a psychologist, I cannot take this believes off your head. I am not trained to do that. Interior Design or Decoration isn't meant for everyone to be honest its not. Just because I have phobia for rain doesn't mean I go about discouraging people from walking in it. Don't force your believes down people's throat. Your believe is it's a luxurious service and middle class cannot afford it but let me rephrase the sentence for you. You meant, "it's luxurious, I am a middle class woman and I cannot afford it because in my head I believe it's an expensive service". Stay in your limits.

I see a lot of middle class people engaging the services of a professional Interior Decorator and they are happy. If you think it's only well to do people that engages the services of an interior decorator then you are wrong. I have designed homes for young adults in their early 20s. I think it's just a believe system. They just know their budget limits. I cannot change your mind set just because I post on this platform. You have to do that for your self. I have been given a budget of one million five hundred thousand naira to design a home for some young couple. A two bedroom apartment and I delivered. A nairalander has contacted me to help modify his living room with a budget of seven hundred thousand naira before. And we delivered Beautifully.
And I have taken up projects in their tens of millions. I believe you need to speak for yourself in this context and stop assuming.

My Response- Speaking for all Interior Decorator and Designers. I am not here to convince any body that already perceives our services as luxury. They have to see reasons themselves. We only pray for Clients that sees values in the services we render. Because for someone that has already made up their minds on a believe it's so hard for them to have a change of heart. Except they want that fixed by themselves and make up their mind to. That's not an Interior Designers problem. It's your own problem to deal with. I am here for the people that appreciates the God's given talents and abilities in Designers and the beauty they create and would love to partner with them for their Interior needs, requirements and expectations.

My Response (2)- it's all about your mentality Madam if I must say.
if you know you cannot afford the services of an Interior Professional or you are not convinced about it, please do not force it. Do it yourself, do all you need to do by yourself to make your interior beautiful. If you could deem the service as luxurious then you don't know what it's all about in the first place. You cannot value it. You don't know much about it so It's not for you. If you have a problem with it then leave it. Don't come here discouraging people that genuinely are in need of a professional and can afford this services. Eni ti o ba mo iyi Wura ni a hun ta a fun. It's a person that knows the value of Gold that it's sold to. Alot of people think it's luxury where as others think it's an investment. Believe it or not it's a solution providing service. It's not a cheap service if you are looking for cheap but it can be made affordable. Everything that has to do with this service is quality and of value. And we both know quality isn't cheap. Obe to dun, owo lo pa. Soup wey sweet na money kill am.

You don't insult people to make a point. You don't need a professional, you can always go to the market and buy what you you can afford. It's not a service for everyone. My response- First, who told you I was here to speak English. I am here to pass a message across. As long as it can be understood then my purpose has been met. Why are you making it like it's a competitive essay and trying to gain sympathy likes by calling me rude. I am not competing with you. I do not have to reply to your question the way you want it answered in your own head. I speak for myself and the way I feel it's best. Infact, I don't even know you madam so I have no resentment against you but my resentment is against you trying to ridicule my Profession by tagging it somewhat. I wouldn't take that. Imagine this I am a woman like yourself statement. And enough about my use of words. I am a professional Interior decorator not an English scoler.

Secondly, it's not a service to consider. You have to want it. If you are not a non luxury builder. I don't think you might be happy with what ever any Decorator would designs for you because you will definitely count your cost. I would advice you go online and read alittle about what you are trying to achieve and fix your interior yourself. Like someone on this platform wrote, "Professionals are for the Elite". I am curious, what would you say to people who say paying an interior designer is an unnecessary expense? How do you convince them? Why should someone spend the extra money if they could just do things themselves? I have an appreciation for interior designers, I’m not trying to discourage you nor knock your hustle. I see how the market has really taken off, especially in high end luxury homes. I’m just trying to get you to explain why your services should be part of a middle class home owner’s budget? Why should this be considered a reasonable expense? Who knows, maybe your explanation could stimulate someone’s interest in the service.

I think this has to do with your mentality sir. Just like some set of people believe a pregnant woman walking at night could give birth to a certain kind of child so do alot of people believe in so many things that isn't adequately correct.

I am a budget interior decorator. In our company Clients determines the budget not us speaking for myself. Our job comes with a detailed understanding of what to expect before we even get paid. It's an agreement between both parties and we always exceed the Client's expectations because that's the beauty of it all . And I can bet it with you, no matter how well you think you know how to shop you can never achieve what I would achieve given any budget in terms of quality, style, design, creativity, ambiance etc. Don't be deceived by what you think you know. How can you beat a professional that doesn't this for a living.

Interior Decorators are meant to give more for the value of any budget because we deal directly with Importers and merchants who definitely gives us more discounts because of our continued patronages. Atleast that's how it's meant to be. Some of us are direct Importers who imports in bulks and that comes at a more affordable values. They help you achieve you dream Interior just as you want it but doing it much more professionally.


If you employ an Interior Decorator and the services render is lesser than the value of the money given then you as a person hasn't done your assignment well in selecting a professional in handling your interior. You know there are many jobless Nigerian posing themselves as different professionals like makeup artist, models, contractors, real estate professionals etc. So we also have alot of jobless people calling themselves Interior decorator who doesn't know the drills or have the necessary skillsets or passion that come with this profession. And also alot of people want to follow names, I think that also happens all over the world. They want to say so so professional designed my home. If you want such professional influences and sentiments it also comes at a price. If you want a genuine passion influenced, talented and skilled Interior designer to handle your interior we have 100s of us in Nigeria even with international trainings. Please do well to identify one and work with them on your next project.

And moreover alot of people just assume all these things. Have you ever engaged the services of an Interior Decorating Professional and they under delivered?. Or it's just something you have stuck in your head as we all do as Nigerians, jump into conclusions because we think we know it all even without taking time to read or study about such things?.

A lot of people too expect magic when they don't give much because they are dealing with a professional. If you fall into such category you will always be disappointed because it's what you give that you get. You don't expect them to use their money to help in decorating your interior, do you?.

Last December a Client asked me; Kemi, which is in trend, Curtain or Blinds?. I replied and said; Madam, do you want something that's perfect for your interior or you want to follow trend?. She was like; ehn I want to know which is because I don't want my friend to call me old school. I told her that if you friends are interior experts and you use blinds when your interior requires curtain then they will mock you in their hearts. And moreover curtain and blinds are not even new trends, they have long existed, go with what suitable for your interior. And that case was closed.

There are few situations whereby both are suitable. Then you have to make decisions based on other factors like; Budget, style you are looking to create and the general ambiance you want to get.

BLINDS- Then lets talk about designs and specifications especially in Blinds selection. Not all kinds of blinds are suitable in specific spaces/rooms. And to be honest blinds comes in limited colours and designs so you have to pick with a lot of thought through. The DOS and DON'Ts of Blinds selections are so much and all these has to be put into consideration when selecting Blinds as a Window Treatment. Blinds comes in limited colours and designs. You can only get exact of what the companies are producing or can produce.
