Crime / Is It Right To Pay For Police Report On Lost Document? by Murphylink(m): 8:06pm On Mar 07, 2018
Today, 7/03/18 I was at a police station with an affidavit for police report on lost passport. The officer I met said its #5000 for him to issue the report.

I told him this is ridiculous demand, that why must I pay that much to get 'just' a report. The next thing he asked was the cost of getting aan affidavit signed at the court. That did I pay exactly whats on the receipt.

Anyway, I eventually paid #1000 after he deliberately wasted my time for 3 hours

Business / How Effective And Effecicient Can A Trade/economic Boycott Be In Nigeria ? by Murphylink(m): 12:06am On Apr 18, 2015
Critically looking at how the managment of Multi choice(DS Tv) disregard an injunction of a court stopping them from increasing there tarriff. And MTN for reluctantly refusing to bill on per seconds before Globacom (an indegenious company) introduce it. Before these, MTN always makes us to belief it is not possible to bill customers on this platform. Also from reliable media organisations, the government of Jacob Zuma, which is the host country of these organisations has not come out in strong terms to condem the xeophobia currently going on in South Africa. Our government has also not done much to mitigate effect with a stronger counter action like what they did during the vasination/yellow card issue. Many countries including Malawi And Congo have done much for their citizen by refusing South Africans entry permit. Radio stations inNamibia has also stop playing music that originate from South Africa.

My question is this: cant we the citizen enforce things through trade boycott of all South African products and organisations if our government fails to properlly protect us ?

Looking from the angle on how Soldiers reacted to a voter at Sam Shonibare, Surulere, Lagos who was using his mobile to capture events and how the mobile phone was confisticated and the police team of AIG Joseph Mbu for smashing of mobile phone of somebody who was using it to record them. And how INEC official was covertly recorded through mobile phone.
Is this not part of our CIVIC responsibity of protecting the citizen from the crude and uncivilized behaviour of our security agents ?
Is it wrong to record public officers at public functions ?
Are there any legal implication ?
Are these not a way of measuring or checking the execcesses of our security officers ?

Health / South Africa Claims First Successful Penis Transplant by Murphylink(m): 8:55pm On Mar 14, 2015
The reportedly successful penis transplant could have pivotal consequences for the medical community [AFP]
South African doctors have confirmed that they performed the world's first successful penis transplant, three months after conducting the ground-breaking operation.
The 21-year-old patient had his penis amputated three years ago after a botched circumcision at a traditional initiation ceremony.
In a nine-hour operation at the Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town on December 11 last year, he received his new penis from a deceased donor.
"We've proved that it can be done -- we can give someone an organ that is just as good as the one that he had," said Professor Frank Graewe, head of plastic reconstructive surgery at Stellenbosch University.
"It was a privilege to be part of this first successful penis transplant in the world."
Doctors said the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, has made a full recovery since the operation and had regained all his urinary and reproductive functions.
In 2006, a Chinese man had a penis transplant but his doctors removed the organ after two weeks due to "a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife".

Sports / Luiz Figo Declared For FIFA Presidency by Murphylink(m): 2:10pm On Jan 28, 2015
Former Portugal star Figo is one of a number of candidates to have recently declared their interest in the role, which will be decided by a vote of the 209 Member FAs at the FIFA Congress on May 29.

Figo told CNN: "I care about football, so what I'm seeing regarding the image of FIFA -- not only now but in the past years -- I don't like it.

"If you search FIFA on the internet, you see the first word that comes out: 'scandal.' Not positive words. It's that we have to change first and try to improve the image of FIFA. Football deserves much better than this.

"I've been talking with so many important people in football -- players, managers, president of federations -- and they all think that something has to be done.

"Last year was the World Cup, I was in Brazil and I saw the reaction of all the fans regarding the image of FIFA and I think something has to be changed.

"Change in leadership, governance, transparency and solidarity, so I think it's the moment for that."

Luis Figo is the latest high-profile candidate to announce his interest in the role.
Blatter, who is seeking a fifth term, remains the firm favourite for the role but now faces competition from former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne, Jordanian FA president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, Dutch FA chairman Michael van Praag, former France international David Ginola and Figo.

Former Chile FA chief Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who had previously worked as a FIFA official, has also said he could enter the runni

Politics / DPO, Chioma Ajunwa, Seizes Newspaper Over Punch Report by Murphylink(m): 6:25am On Jan 20, 2015
The Divisional Police Officer of the Ogudu Police Division, Lagos State, Chioma Ajunwa, on Monday attacked vendors selling The PUNCH and other newspapers in the Ogudu-Ojota area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ajunwa confiscated the newspapers and ordered that the men stop displaying the papers.

It was learnt that the DPO, an Olympic Gold medalist, was reacting to an earlier report by The PUNCH on the seizure of some newspapers last week and the demand for a N5,000 bail for the vendor arrested.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday that Ajunwa seized newspapers displayed at a junction on the Ogudu-Ojota Road.

She was also reported to have arrested one of the vendors, Idongesit Obot, who slept behind the counter till the following day.

The sum of N5,000 was allegedly demanded for Obot’s bail, but N1,500 was said to have been paid after much persuasion with the Investigating Police Officer.

A vendor, Aniekan Jackson, said Ajunwa was angry at the report and swooped on the vendors in the area on Monday.

He said, “She came very early this morning (Monday), seizing our newspapers. She also chased all the vendors at the Ojota bus stop. She said she does not want to see anybody here again, adding that we should report again to The PUNCH so that they can write about her again.

“What do we do now? She said we should rent shops. Are we going to stop selling The PUNCH because of her? Or are we going to rent shops for newspaper business?”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, had told our correspondent in the Friday publication that the DPO’s action was informed by the gridlock usually caused by readers who crowded newspaper stands every morning.

Nwosu had said Ajunwa raided the area after several warnings did not yield any result.

But a newspaper agent in Ojota, Arnold Adekunle, faulted the police position, saying if the DPO really wanted to sanitise the area, she was supposed to work with the local government area authorities.

Adekunle said, “The police said there had been accident on the road because of newspaper stands, how many accidents have they recorded on the road? She is just making up things. She wants to assume the position of the local government’s boss.”

Another vendor, who identified himself simply as Suleiman, later informed our correspondent that the seized newspapers had been released to the vendors.

He added that the DPO had sworn never to allow them sell newspapers in the area.

“She said she does not want to see us again because we told you (PUNCH) that the police demanded N5,000 from us. She said we should meet PUNCH to do more stories on her.

“There is no other place where we can sell papers, except by the roadside. We have been selling newspapers there for the past 10 years, and there has never been any accident.”

The police spokesperson, Nwosu, said, “The DPO is working as parts of efforts to ensure free flow of traffic in and around the Ogudu junction.

“Governor Babatunde Fashola, during his visit to area H headquarters, where he handed over an ICT resource centre to the state police command, directed all traders, including newspaper vendors, who obstruct traffic by selling along the road and the median to vacate such places.

“No newspapers were seized as the traders and vendors removed their wares from the aforementioned places.”

Properties / 6 Easy Ways To Make Your Room Feel Like A Luxury Hotel by Murphylink(m): 6:05am On Jan 20, 2015
After a long, long trip, your body is met by a comfy bed laid with sumptuous sheets and fluffy pillows that make you seriously contemplate slipping one into your luggage. You awake in the morning from a peaceful sleep and pad your feet into the lush, thick-pile carpet into the spa bathroom. Oh! The delicious smell of the hand-milled French Lavender soap and the super plushness of the Turkish cotton towels....

This is just a taste of what it’s like to stay at a luxury hotel.

Isn't it worth it to experience a version of this luxury, no matter how small, in our daily lives? And if we can’t make our entire homes luxurious, can we at least do it in our bedrooms?

Give yourself the gift of luxury with a bedroom that you deserve to wake up in each morning. No matter your budget, all it takes is a few small steps…

1. It all starts with the BED…
Think of all the great hotels you have visited- the bed always takes centre stage and is always well designed with a comfortable, supportive mattress, soft linens and plump pillows. At home, go for the best mattress your budget can allow. It’s an investment in your peace of mind; after all, you spend one third of your life in bed. Also, buy the highest thread count bed linen you can afford. Remember, luxury is the goal. Add throw pillows for colour and pizzazz and include a throw blanket at the end of the bed. Don’t forget that little bar of chocolate on the pillow.
4. Lightings Up
Ever been to a dark and dreary luxury hotel room? Me neither. Hotels are always well-lit with beautiful chandeliers, side lamps, wall scones and mood lightings in every corner. Start with the big overhead light in your room. Do you like it? Is it the regular boring yellow bulb? Is the light too harsh? Consider installing a dimmer for your overhead light. Dimmers are the key to mood lighting. Then add lamps to your side tables. Lamp shades lined in gold add a hint of glamour. Curtains contribute to daytime lighting and should be thick enough to ensure a total black-out for that Sunday afternoon nap.v

2. Scent Things Up...
One of the first things you notice in a hotel room is what it smells like – and that’s not unintentional. It’s a given that scent is strongly tied to memory, hence most luxury hotels make it a point to create a unique scent that invigorates your senses from the moment you walk in. So, the next time you go shopping, you may want to buy a jar of great air freshener or some scented candles. Good ones usually cost a little more but are totally worth it. You can also create your own scent at home; the internet is filled with loads of easy home recipes that you can use.

5. Late Night Snacks
What better way to relax than not having to go the kitchen for a cool beverage! Incorporate an easy bed-side coffee/tea station in your room like many hotels do. Also know how to add a mini fridge in your room for snacks and drinks without making it look like a university hostel. The trick is to find a fridge with a luxury finish; Instead of glossy white, go for stainless steel, cabinet-fronts, or a fridge with a sleek glass door; then giving it a faux built-in look by sliding it under a tight-fitting table side or between pieces of furniture with similar heights.

3. Create Space...
A hotel room is many things but cluttered is not one of them. There is nothing
relaxing about clutter. It doesn't make you feel like you're getting away from it all; it feels like
you're waist deep in it. Spaces in a hotel, no matter how small are always well organised. Everything has a home and a purpose. Use baskets and decorative bowls to hide clutter in your bedroom. Shelves could be used for displaying books and art collections, side tables for vases and lamps and chairs arranged in groupings for conversations.

6. Make it Personal
Many hotel rooms feature regional art and local interest magazines so as a guest, you feel a connection with the city you are visiting. For your own room however, remember that whether it is a favorite painting, family photographs, a book shelf with your favorite books, don't be afraid to include those special items in your decorating scheme so you feel connected and at peace.

Politics / Jonathan Links Modu Sheriff With Boko Haram by Murphylink(m): 6:40pm On Dec 31, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan has linked former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, with the extremist Boko Haram sect.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, Jonathan linked Sheriff with the terror group in an April 2013 video during his visit to Borno State.

This is coming barely two weeks after Nigeria’s secret police, the State Security Service (SSS), cleared the former governor of any link to Boko Haram.

PREMIUM TIMES said the video it obtained suggested that President Jonathan is personally aware and strongly convinced of the former’s governor’s longstanding relationship with the founder of the sect.

The online news portal also revealed that it obtained a leaked security intelligence dispatch that also suggested Sheriff has link with the sect.

The memo claimed Sheriff personally oversaw the training and deployment of fighters from the Abeche region in Chad.

In Abeche, Sheriff operated from the lodge of the Chadian President, Idris Deby, the memo claimed.

Meanwhile, in the video clip, shot in April 2013 during a visit he made to Borno State, Jonathan was heard describing Sheriff, who was then a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “friend” of Mohammed Yusuf, the man who founded and led Boko Haram for years.

Yusuf died while in the custody of the Nigeria Police after he and a number of his followers were arrested following a bloody clash between the sect members and law enforcement.

During his visit to Borno in April 2013 to persuade Borno leaders and residents to accept a heightened military presence in the state until the insurgency is checked, Jonathan suggested that Boko Haram evolved, blossomed and took up arms against the Nigerian state during Sheriff’s tenure as governor of the troubled North-East state.

As commander-in-chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Jonathan regularly has access to a multiplicity of security reports, and many believed he spoke from a position of knowledge at the time.

The video features the president, dressed in agbada and a cap, and clutching two microphones in his left hand while he addressed his audience, trying to defend the militarization of Borno and other states in the northeast region.

In his speech, Jonathan argued that the militarization of the region began after the crises that trailed the murder of the Boko Haram founder.

“When Yusuf was killed, that was the beginning of the crisis…” the president continued his speech.

Yusuf was the founder of the Boko Haram sect. His extrajudicial murder in 2009 marked the beginning of the deadly insurgency that is now threatening the entire northeast region of Nigeria.

Sheriff’s alleged link with Boko Haram dates back to his days as governor of Borno between 2003 and 2011.

Multiple security sources, politicians from his home state and residents of Borno claim Sheriff was close to the group and and its leadership, and indeed appointed a member of the sect to his cabinet as commissioner.

Recently, an Australian negotiator, working with the Nigerian government, Stephen Davis, also claimed that the sect’s top members told him Sheriff was a key sponsor of their activities.

On December 16, the SSS exonerated Sheriff after it paraded six men – including a former special assistant to current Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima.

The SSS claimed the suspects admitted fabricating the scenarios the Australian negotiator relied on to make his claims.
