EducationRe: Coronavirus: Bayero University Begins Production Of Ventilators by mustyguy(m): 9:23am On Apr 04, 2020
I don't know why most Igbo's are fools and stupid, when any good news is brought from north you will see and hear them abusing northerners, assuming somebody posted bad information about universities in the north you will see them commenting like bad things only happen in North, last week when somebody posted that UNN announced that they've started the production of sanitizer, most Igbo's in this platform were commenting something like ( UNN is the best) eventhough UNN never distributed the sanitizer they still hail and commend the school, but do you know that buk also have been producing this sanitizer since before UNN started, do you know what universities in north are capable of, is it not in unijos which is located in north that three group of people made a ventilator, do you know that the teaching hospital with the most successful kidney and liver transplant is AKTH located in kano, So PLEASE and PLEASE if you can't commend them on what they are doing please you don't have to abuse them, THANK YOU.

EducationRe: Bayero University Kano (B.U.K) Is The Most Unsecured Federal University.... by mustyguy(m): 7:19pm On Apr 03, 2020
The main problem we have in Nigeria is believing in fake information, the person who posted this trash just sat down and think of how to rubbish the school that is more than great, do you really know what (unsecured) mean, I am a student in bayero university, and I will like you to know that buk is one of the seven most peaceful university in Nigeria, The (unsecured) you used in your sentence is not what you are supposed to relate buk with, they have zero tolerance for CULTISM and other related activities, if you want to write something about their security, then know that all securities behave like they are Superior in everything and what they need from you is to cooperate with them, and if you are posting this trash to downgrade universities in the north then you should know that the safest institutions to study in Nigeria are all in the north, because it is hard to witness any form of RAPE CASE, CULTISM,RIOT in northern universities, and what I want you people to know is that posting trash about universities in the north will not upgrade your level, because they have really achieved a lot, I don't really see any educative idea in posting about buk security matter when there are schools in the south that always have CULTIST CLASH, RAPE CASE, ROBBERY without security interfering E.G UNIBEN, CRUTECH, AAU, O.A.U, FUTO, and others that always have related issues, so please becareful about what you will or you post, let me also remind you that I am a student in buk and I have never been harassed by the security men, THANK YOU.

BUK’s Multi-Million Naira 22 Hectare Research Farm Commissioned
Submitted by publication on Sun, 12/22/2019 - 12:54

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Mohammed Nanono, on Friday, 20th December, 2019 commissioned Bayero University’s multi-million Naira research and training farm at Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA).

The farm, which is 22 hectare and planned for all year round farming, is the biggest and first of its kind in Nigeria’s tertiary education. It is fully equipped with facilities for drip and sprinkler irrigation, fertigation, infield and controlled environment crop production.

The Minister called for the CDA’s support to collaborate with the federal government and other institutions to boost food production in the country. He congratulated Bayero University for establishing one of the best, modern and biggest research farms in Nigeria.

Alhaji Nanono said he was aware of the CDA’s achievements as one of the most performing centres in Africa, noting that it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the University Management. He called for further collaboration between BUK and his ministry to build human capacity in land and water management to help combat the challenges of climate change and its effect on productivity.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who formally launched the CDA’s Africa Centres of Excellence Impact Project, congratulated the university and specifically the CDA for winning the World Bank’s $5m ACE Impact grant.

Represented by the Director Public Affairs in the National Universities Commission (NUC), Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, the Minister said BUK has achieved significant milestone in addressing some of the key challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa through the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA).

In his remarks, the ACE National Coordinator, Dr. Joshua Attah, stated that the ACE project was initiated to promote regional specialization among universities in the participating West and Central African countries and the aim is to strengthen high quality training and applied research. He said CDA is not just a BUK project but regional project helping to address common regional challenges.

He enumerated a number of successes recorded by CDA to include enrolment of international students from 11 countries, winning additional grant of $5m from World Bank, collaborating with many national and international organizations, generating over N150m on its own and proving to be one of the top performing centres in Africa.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Ibrahim Gambari said the CDA through its activities is contributing significantly to national security, by addressing challenges of unemployment, food production, wealth creation and poverty alleviation.

Presenting his welcome remarks, the Director, CDA, Professor Jibrin M. Jibrin highlighted the achievements of the centre since inception in 2012, saying that the Centre has metamorphosed to become a regional Africa Centre of Excellence. He said the resources and facilities in the CDA could be harnessed to strongly support the federal government’s efforts towards improving agricultural productivity and diversifying economy.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello said he was highly impressed with the Minister of Agriculture’s visit to launch the farm as well as his laudable support and contributions. He emphasized that the CDA would continue to build the capacity of people to contribute to the manpower development.

The ceremony witnessed the official commissioning of laboratory facilities of CDA.

Goodwill messages were presented by some key partners of CDA.

EducationBUK Students Produce Charcoal Briquettes, Make $1m Hult Prize Shortlist. by mustyguy(op): 11:30am On Jul 18, 2019
BUK students produce charcoal briquettes, make $1m Hult Prize shortlist By Dickson S. Adam. The team produces charcoal briquettes.
A team of three undergraduate students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has made it onto the 40 teams shortlisted for the $1 million Hult Prize, the world’s largest student competition. The competition is about creating market ready solutions to the pressing needs of humanity, while maintaining balance between profit and social impact. Its goals are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The students, Ubaidurrahman Sulaiman, Mustapha Sani Abdullahi and Abdulhafeez Adebayo, have won the contest at the campus level with their innovation and then at the regional level in Abuja. The team would be competing at the global stage in the UK alongside 39 teams comprising of hundreds of students from many world class universities around the world. The team invented a solar-powered device that allows for crop waste to be utilized for job creation in rural communities, through the production of charcoal briquettes. They are presently running the pilot project in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State where they recycle the enormous crop waste from the massive agriculture in the area and then produce charcoal from it. Speaking with our correspondent in Jos, the team’s captain, Sulaiman, said their innovation has the potential of creating about 10,000 jobs in the country in five years. He said the team, named Brycoal Nigeria, is utilizing crop waste to produce charcoal briquettes for cooking and household use to improve livelihood. “Nigeria is plagued with poor waste management systems. That is what drew our attention to our project. With the increase in tree-felling/deforestation in the country for charcoal purposes, we used our background in engineering to find the solution to the problem by using crop waste to produce charcoal. “Sugarcane waste pollution, for instance is a problem many Nigerians know too well. But we have successfully closed three sugarcane waste dumpsites in Kano by processing the waste and converting it into charcoal briquettes. The charcoal briquettes we produce are exactly what this country needs. “Our product would tremendously decrease the dependency on wood charcoal. Our product also last longer than firewood and wood charcoal and it is also healthier to use because of its smokeless property,” the team captain said. He however said the team is facing funding problem which led to the UK visa processing challenges it had. Sulaiman said the team single-handedly funded the project and called on Nigerians to patronize their charcoal briquettes to enable them raise funds not only to improve on the project but to also facilitate their participation in the UK contest in September. It would be recalled that a team of Nigerian students, ImpactRays, made it to the final six-team shortlist last year, making it the only African team to achieve the feat.
