Google is pretty good at finding stuff online - but now it can help you find your phone with nothing more than a voice command. Simple say "OK Google, find my phone" to your Chrome browser - or type "find my phone" as a regular Google search if you don't want to be that weird guy who talks to his computer - and a map appears in the search results. Search results led by a link to Apple's Find My iPhone services, but we'll gloss over that one... see detailed snapshots here http://ajidaraviews..in/2015/04/tech-how-to-find-your-lost-phone-by.html?m=1 |
Scientists at Columbia University have succeeded in inventing the world's first self-powered camera, which uses so little electricity that it can theoretically keep recording video footage forever. The video camera consists of a 3D-printed plastic housing, off-the-shelf components and an image sensor developed by the researchers that is able to toggle between capturing ambient light in a well-lit room and converting it into electricity to power the camera, as well as capturing an image. Conventional camera sensors are chips that contain millions of pixels. When the pixels are exposed to light, they use photodiodes to generate an electrical current, which the sensor uses to measure the intensity of the light. The measurement of the light is then used to produce images. The researchers found that camera sensors work in a similar way to solar cells, which harvest light and turn it into electrical power, so they decided to build a camera sensor that could perform both functions in one go. At the moment, the resolution of the camera is very low – just 30 x 40 pixels or rather .0012 megapixels – and the camera can only produce one image per second, but in theory, the camera could keep recording images forever as the image sensor can continue to harness light to power the device while capturing images at the same time. "We are in the middle of a digital imaging revolution. I think we have just seen the tip of the iceberg," said Shree K. Nayar, a professor of computer science who directs the Computer Vision Laboratory at Columbia University. "Digital imaging is expected to enable many emerging fields including wearable devices, sensor networks, smart environments, personalised medicine, and the Internet of Things. A camera that can function as an untethered device forever – without any external power supply – would be incredibly useful." When the camera is not in use, it can also be used to generate power for other devices like a smartphone or watch. Having the ability to extend battery life would be a great breakthrough that could be useful to a huge range of devices, as the smarter your device is, the more electrical power is required to run the processors in it. The researchers hope that their technology can be developed into compact solid-state imaging chips for the next generation of cameras. "A few different designs for image sensors that can harvest energy have been proposed in the past. However, our prototype is the first demonstration of a fully self-powered video camera," said Nayar. "We believe our results are a significant step forward in developing an entirely new generation of cameras that can function for a very long duration – ideally, forever – without being externally powered." The cellphone in your pocket could soon save you from an earthquake. Researchers have shown that it is possible to use GPS data from smart phones to detect tremors, potentially providing an early warning system to those who have not yet been hit. "What’s really nice about this work is they are using sensors that people carry around anyway," says geophysicist Kristine Larson of the University of Colorado, Boulder. "It could be very, very useful." In the moments before an earthquake, a few extra seconds can mean the difference between life and death. With a little bit of warning, people can take shelter, nuclear power plants can take last-minute precautions, and natural gas utilities can shut down pipelines. Japan has an early warning system that relies on more than 1000 seismometers throughout the country, which saved lives during the magnitude-9 Tohoku earthquake that hit in 2011. A similar system exists in Mexico, and another is under study in California. But such systems are expensive and time-consuming to install and maintain, making cellphones an attractive alternative, especially for earthquake-prone countries in the developing world. Previous studies of crowdsourcing earthquake early warning systems have relied on phones' accelerometers, which estimate the phone's movement, rather than GPS tracking, which locates the absolute position of the phone using satellites. Scientific GPS stations have already been used to detect earthquakes, but... read the full post here... http://ajidaraviews..com/2015/04/tech-smart-phones-could-be-used-to.html

Augmented reality glasses for drivers that render parts of the vehicle transparent to give an unobstructed view of external surroundings have been developed by BMW. The Mini Augmented Vision, unveiled at the Shanghai auto show, also offer a head-up display for navigation and an augmented parking feature that projects a rear-view mirror into the driver's vision. According to BMW, the glasses offer a "revolutionary" display concept that provides enhanced comfort and safety. "Mini Augmented Vision gives an insight into how intelligent connectivity between a Mini car and eyewear into which relevant content is projected might work in the future," Jörg Preißinger, project manager for the glasses, said. "Working with several Qualcomm companies, we have created an interlinked system and augmented reality eyewear with a characteristic Mini design that revolutionise the experience both in and outside the vehicle. "This prototype with its customised, interactive functions succeeds in fusing augmented reality with the brand's trademark sense of style." The Liver is one of the most important organs of the body. It performs various functions that allows us to be an optimal level day in day out. The liver has wide range of functions and it plays a vital role in numerous physiological processes, including metabolic function and blood detoxification. It is also a regenerative organ i.e whenever one of its cell is damaged, it quickly replaces it. I call it the non-complaining organ. One will not know how damaged their liver is until over 60% of its cells have been damaged. Most of the times at such points there isn’t much that can be done to salvage the situation. Image source: minesgreencircle. There are different habitual behavior that most of us don’t know affect our liver as the damage can be gradual and initially without obvious symptoms. But over time these bad habits can severely harm your liver. This is very dangerous, as your body cannot function properly without a properly working liver. Common Habits That Damages The Liver Not Sleeping Enough sleeping I know this may sound weird to most of us but it is actually true. A study published in the Journal of Anatomy found that sleep deprivation can cause oxidative stress to the liver. Another study reveals why shift workers and people who suffer from sleep deprivation suffer from a large range of health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and more. It was found that their livers aren’t processing fat efficiently and instead allowing fat to accumulate (which proves that the body cannot function properly without a properly working liver). Also when we sleep, our body goes into a repair process. So, make sure you get a good 8 hours of sleep, as lack of sleep will ruin your elimination process and damage your liver. Overuse Of Certain Medications Overuse of over-the-counter drugs and certain prescription drugs is known to cause liver damage. Some of these drugs include antidepressants, mood stabilizers, corticosteroids (used for treating inflammation) and pain relievers. It’s therefore important to review the side effects and adverse effects of medications before taking them. Alcohol Consumption alcohol-side-effects-300x196 I know this is an habit we all know to well. Most people know the associated dangers but we cannot overemphasize it. Heavy alcohol consumption is the most common cause of liver damage. Excess amount of alcohol decreases the liver’s ability of removing toxins from the body. This is because the liver gets diverted from its other functions and focuses mainly on converting alcohol to a less toxic form, and this causes fatty liver disease and inflammation. When the liver tries to break down the alcohol, the resulting chemical reaction can damage the liver cells, and after a long time of consuming excess amount of alcohol, the damage can become permanent and cause cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) which leads to loss of liver function. Frequent alcohol abuse can degrade the liver over time and kill off cells. When the liver attempts to repair this damage, it could lead to DNA mutations that kick start cancers. Smoking cigarettes Smoking not only harms the lungs but also harms the liver. The numerous toxic substances inhaled in cigarette smoke find their way to the liver and add to the overall toxic load placed on the organ. The chemicals cause oxidative stress that lead to formation of free radicals that destroy liver cells, This is an habit you must quit to live a long healthy life. Poor Nutrition and Obesity nutrition Obesity is linked to poor eating habits and can harm your liver over time, just as drinking too much alcohol does. The reason for that is that too much of the wrong foods causes excess fat build-up in the liver, known as Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. The liver normally helps to process and regulate the amount of sugar and fat in the blood, but in obese people the liver becomes overwhelmed and starts storing excess fat in its own liver cells, either because there is no other place for them elsewhere or the liver fails to break them down. Over time, if too much fat is accumulated in the liver, the liver can become inflamed and the liver cells can be damaged. Stay Healthy and don't forget to share!!! Dark circles are the dark discolorations of the skin that we usually find under the eyes. It is also known as dark rings or shadows. Dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but they make people look tired, exhausted, unhealthy and older. You can easily get rid of unsightly shadows under your eyes using some easy home remedies. Some of the main causes of dark circles below the eyes include are heredity, aging, dry skin, prolonged crying, working for long hours in front of a computer, mental or physical stress, lack of sleep and an unhealthy diet. Both men and women of different age groups can have dark circles. It is not sex or age dependent. There are many things you can do to eliminate dark circles under your eyes and keep them from coming back. To reduce puffiness, a temporary cause of dark circles, change your sleeping habits. Sleep on your back, elevating your head with more pillow because gravity lets fluid buildup drain away. Sleep well (at least eight hours sleep daily) to have a fresh and circle-free face. Lots of sleep means less stress and thus less puffiness. Control allergies and the puffiness they cause. Take proper medication for allergies to airborne materials like flour or smoke. If you have dust allergies, make your bedroom as dust-free as possible: use bare floors, put dust covers on mattress and pillows, and remove or cover upholstered furniture, clothes, books, and papers. Remove all eye make-up, like eyeliner and mascara, before going to sleep. Anything that irritates eyes can leave them watery and puffy. Rinse the nasal passages, to relieve sinus infections and hay fever that cause puffiness under the eyes. Daily exercise circulates blood throughout the body and the face, reducing puffiness. Concentrate on yoga too, which stimulates your breathing, leaving fresh skin. To eradicate morning puffiness and bluish color, apply something that cools the skin and the capillaries beneath it, reducing swelling and making the blood vessels less visible. Apply cucumber or potato slices, chilled spoons, or bags of ice water to the area around the eye for up to an hour and a half. Include plenty of green vegetables, fruits, and vitamins in your diet. Eat seasonal fruit like bananas, mangoes, and oranges, along with vegetables like spinach, greens, carrots, and brinjals (eggplant). Include plenty of iron in your diet, from whole grains, legumes, eggs, or iron supplements. Reduce salt in your diet to reduce puffiness. Arrange your life to reduce stress. Stress releases cortisol, which causes increased blood volume and puffiness, and has other undesired effects. Stay hydrated; dehydration causes thin and sagging skin. Use moisturizer. Limit cigarettes and alcohol. To keep looking young years longer, protect your face and eyes from the sun. Ultraviolet light from the sun destroys protein in the skin. Use sunscreen and a hat when you go out. Makeup is very effective at concealing dark circles, whether they are caused by hyperpigmentation or something else. Stay healthy and don't forget to share!!! Police officers are increasingly under the microscope. Almost literally. Now that the nightly news regularly features incidents where officers are being criticized for excessive force, even responsible members of the force are finding that having a camera thrust in their face is now just part of the job. A white police officer was charged with murder this week in South Carolina after fatally shooting an unarmed black man running away from him. The death of Walter Scott was caught on video by a bystander, leading to a media frenzy. South Carolina lawmakers urged the public to remember that the officer who killed Scott is simply one bad apple among a state of good police officers, though police officials say the constant negative attention has an effect on even the most responsible police officials. “It causes hesitation, and hesitation is a cause of risk,” said Rich Roberts, spokesman for the International Union of Police Associations. Roberts said it’s difficult for officers who are being filmed not to second-guess their actions, even if they’re in an unsafe situation. “I’m not sure being on the camera is exactly the problem, but with most people I talked to the problem is how people will interpret the images that are captured are on them.” The news media, he said, needs to edit video clips to fit within certain time windows: If CNN only has 15 seconds to show a clip of a New York City detective berating a foreign-born Uber driver, for instance, the audience wouldn’t know what led up to that incident. Courts consistently have ruled that it’s legal for citizens to film police without an officer’s consent, just as long as the person filming doesn’t interfere with the situation. Police, to put it mildly, don’t like being recorded by witnesses. YouTube is littered with footage of officers going ballistic on people watching events unfold from yards away. All of which helps explain why the law enforcement community, for the most part, has greeted the advent of police body cameras with such enthusiasm. Police have complained that bystander cameras can present a safety risk -- though the IUPA’s Roberts said he couldn’t recall any instances where they interfered with the situation -- and body cameras promise to show events from an officer’s perspective. “They realize their potential audience is now the entire world,” said Jay Stanley, senior policy analyst with the American Civil Liberties Union’s Speech, Privacy and Technology Project. “Police who have nothing to hide have already long since recognized they’re likely to be filmed any time anything dramatic goes down in public. I think that any problems police have with cameras originate in their own minds.” At the heart of the matter is a stark difference in ideology. Police critics say cameras are necessary to expose and curb abuses of power. The law enforcement community says cameras will lead to fewer lawsuits and false complaints. “I just think agencies accept that people are filming everyone anyway,” said Lindsay Miller, senior research associate at the Police Executive Research Forum and an author of one of the only studies on how cameras are used. An unrelated study found that police body cameras lead to a more than 50 percent reduction in use-of-force complaints. “A lot of the things that have been happening recently are really good opportunities to find some reforms and move agencies into a better place,” Miller said. “I think police welcome that.” Source: http://ajidaraviews..com/2015/04/tech-police-under-surveillance-learning.html

A railway line running beneath Mount Everest involving long tunnels through the world's most mountainous terrain is being considered by the government of China. The bold scheme would link the country with Nepal, in which Everest is located, with a reported finish date of 2020. It would also connect China with India, the other emerging market powerhouse in the region. A train line running under Mount Everest would be an extension to the existing 1,215 mile-long Qinghai-Tibet route between Tibet and China. The distinctive topography of the area would affect the maximum speed at which trains could safely travel. Environmentalists have condemned the plan, with the international Campaign for Tibet warning it contained: "dangerous implications for regional security and the fragile ecosystem of the world's highest and largest plateau" Rail expert Wang Mengshu told China Daily newspaper: "The changes in the elevation along the line are remarkable. The line is probably have to go through Qomolangma so that worker may have to dig some very long tunnels." Pundits have predicted the route would deliver benefits for trade and agriculture. But it looks likely to be controversial, not least with India, which claims influence in Nepal. According to State-run Chinese media, the line had been requested by Nepal. China has been steadily investing billions in Nepal in recent years, adding roads, hydroelectric power stations and telco infrastructure. Google has been awarded a patent for a wrist wearable that uses an "energy source" to target blood cells containing substances linked with Parkinson's or cancer. The Nanoparticles Phoreses patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) follows previous forays by Google into cancer research, including the development of a pill that detects cancer. The latest wristband design would work targeting unhealthy blood cells by emitting the energy source, most likely in the form of radio-frequencies, an acoustic pulse, a magnetic field, or infrared or ultrasound signals. The energy transmitted would then "automatically modify or destroy targets in the blood that have an adverse health effect," according to the patent... You may perhaps be aware that the natural way with which oil is produced by the body is to help in keeping the skin healthy. Also we know that too much of everything is definitely not good.So when there is an accumulation of excess oil it leads to the formation of acne. The excess oil normally is from the sebaceous glands in the skin producing excess sebum. People with this condition usually have shiny skin and large pores... Whiter teeth, like every other good thing in life is something that most people in our cosmetically driven world desire to have. I still recommend you go see your dentist occasionally for teeth cleaning, plaque extraction and polishing. Some people have very sensitive teeth while others cannot afford the cost of these services. This is why I am sharing with you various natural ways we can use to whiten your teeth. With a bit of patience, I think we can naturally restore whiteness to our teeth. They may not get to be scary white like the milk teeth of babies, but they’ll appear more like you took good care of your pretty pearly whites rather than just bleaching them like crazy. Natural Ways of Whitening the Teeth Baking Soda The use of baking soda to whiten the teeth has been in existence for a long time now. It is very simple to use. Make a paste with the baking soda using water or lemon juice. Brush your teeth as you normally do with this paste.Make sure you wash your teeth thoroughly after use. Baking soda is acidic and so it bleaches the enamel thereby restoring the natural white colour. Read full post here : http://ajidaraviews..com/2015/03/health-ways-to-whiten-your-teeth.html
