The Boy Who Turned Tears Into Laughter 😂 Meet 7-year-old Albert Ofosu Nketia from Kumasi, Ghana. His viral video had the whole internet cracking up — one second he’s sobbing, the next he’s laughing with tears on his cheeks. What really happened: In 2023, Albert wanted yam for dinner on a Saturday. His mum Rosina was washing and didn’t have any at home, so she cooked unripe plantain instead. When Albert saw the stew and realized it would’ve gone better with yam, he broke down crying. His grandmother “Nana” tried to comfort him by singing a funny song. Mid-sob, Albert burst out laughing. His uncle recorded it on phone to send to Albert’s dad — it was never meant to go public. A friend/neighbour later leaked it online, and “Funny Albert” became a global meme with more than 300M+ views. From a yam disappointment to making millions smile. Kids are truly something else 😄 #TalesOfAfrica

Evans the Kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, known as Evans, is a convicted kidnap kingpin from Nigeria. He is serving a life sentence at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos. He earned the nickname "Billionaire Kidnapper" because of the vast wealth he gained through his crimes. Until his arrest in 2017, he was one of Nigeria's most notorious and elusive gang leaders. Evans evaded law enforcement for four years while topping the most-wanted lists in Lagos, Edo, and Anambra States. On June 10, 2017, a special Intelligence Response Team from the Nigeria Police Force raided his luxury mansion in Magodo, Lagos, following a bounty of N30 million. He developed a brutal style of operation that involved keeping wealthy victims, mainly businessmen, hostage for six to seven months. He was unique in demanding ransoms only in foreign currencies, often extorting $1 million or more from each victim. Before kidnapping his targets, Evans compiled detailed financial profiles on them. His activities largely focused on high-profile pharmaceutical executives, transport moguls, and major traders in Lagos and eastern Nigeria: • Donatus Dunu: The Managing Director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd was kidnapped in Ilupeju, Lagos, in February 2017. His family paid part of a ransom amounting to €223,000. Dunu, after months of being held under harsh conditions, managed a daring escape from the syndicate's hideout in Igando, which exposed the group and led directly to the police raid on Evans' mansion. • Chief Vincent Obianudo: The billionaire owner of Young Shall Grow Motors was ambushed in Festac Town, Lagos, in August 2013. This operation turned violent. Although Obianudo's police escort managed to thwart the kidnapping, a police officer and three of Evans’ gang members died. • Sylvanus Ahamonu Hafia: Abducted by Evans' gang while posing in fake military uniforms, Hafia was held captive for two months before being released after a ransom of $420,000 was paid. • James Uduji: A well-known businessman was snatched near his home on 7th Avenue in Festac Town. He was held for six weeks until Evans demanded a staggering ransom of $1 million. Official police records and confessions indicate Evans managed to extort $1 million from several other victims, including Uche Okoroafor, a high-volume trader in Alaba, Elias Ukachukwu, and Chief Raymond Okoye. Evans has faced multiple trials for kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder in Lagos State. Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court sentenced Evans and two accomplices to life imprisonment for the conspiracy and kidnapping of Donatus Dunu. He also received a 21-year prison sentence from the Lagos High Court for the abduction of Sylvanus Ahamonu and the extortion of $420,000. The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned Evans and a co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, before Justice A.O. Ogala. They face five charges related to murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping concerning two police officers killed while tracking his group before 2017. Evans has pleaded not guilty to these new charges. Evans has actively sought a plea bargain and clemency from the Lagos State Government. His legal team argues he is truly remorseful and has transformed his life while in Kirikiri. To support his claims, he has proposed to surrender 14 commercial trucks and other properties to repay his victims. While in prison, Evans completed a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and an economics teaching diploma. He currently teaches other inmates and is enrolled as a student at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). Despite his requests for a second chance, the Lagos State Government continues to pursue his remaining criminal charges to ensure justice for all the victims of his gang.
