Welcome to the reality: Nigeria is broke Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed last week said that Nigeria is broke. He spoke to State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja. He said the Federal Government took a painful decision by increasing the pump price of petrol from N86.50 to N145 per litre. According to him, the current problem is not about subsidy removal but a result of dwindling income of the government. He said: “The current problem is not really about subsidy removal. It is that Nigeria is broke. Pure and simple! “It is like somebody who has been earning N100,000 a month and he is faced with a situation where his employer says henceforth, you will be earning N10,000 a month. He would need to make some very painful decisions and some very painful adjustments. That is the situation with Nigeria today. “A few months ago, we were earning as much as $100 for every barrel of crude. In the months of February and March, we were short of…so, we no longer have the resources, the foreign exchange to bring in refined fuel products. And our economy is shrinking. We appreciate the fact that the decision is going to affect everybody. “We appreciate what we are going through, but Nigerians should also know that the government has the responsibility at times to take very difficult decisions. So, it is not always about popularity.” Lai Mohammed was only stating the obvious. This fundamental truth was not told to Nigerians from the very beginning. This is what Lai Mohammed and his principals should have told Nigerians before the hike in the pump price of petrol. Nigeria is indeed on financial life support machine if you like. This government should have told the nation the whole truth. Nigeria is broke, please understand and bear with the government. The average Nigerian would have listened. 12 die after drinking bootleg alcohol twelve men have died after drinking bootleg liquor, Indonesian police said Tuesday. The victims died in Bantul district in the main island of Java in recent days, said local police spokeswoman Anny Pudjiastuti. Four other people are in hospital after drinking the liquor, she said. A man suspected of selling the alcohol has been arrested in Bantul, which is in Central Java, and 81 bottles of liquor confiscated. “The suspect could be charged with causing death and could be jailed for 15 to 20 years,” said Pudjiastuti. Police said they were still investigating what the bootleg liquor contained. There have been several cases in recent years of people dying after drinking bootleg alcohol. In February 26 people in Sleman district — next to Bantul — died after consuming locally-bought homebrew. Indonesia is home to the world’s biggest Muslim population, but most practise a moderate form of Islam and alcohol is available in big cities. However in rural areas, where few drink, getting hold of alcohol can be difficult and people sometimes turn to potentially dangerous homebrews. Bishop stages one-man protest against fuel hike The Bishop of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Seun Adeoye, on Monday staged a solo protest against the deregulation policy of the Federal Government which has led to a sharp increase in the price of fuel. The bishop, who is a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council started the protest in front of the Osun State Government House, Okefia around 10am and marched to the popular Olaiya Junction where he addressed journalists. The bishop was dressed in full regalia of his office and hung a placard with the inscription ” N145 per litre: This is not change but chain.” The bishop said he would not keep quiet in the face of injustice and oppression because the masses who he described as voiceless were the ones being affected adversely by the government policy. The bishop threatened to trek from Osogbo to Abuja to protest against the policy if the Federal Government refused to review the policy. He said, “This is not the change they promised the people. At most it should be N95 per litre. This price is too much, many Nigerians are dying because they cannot feed and do other necessary things like buying drugs and all that. Things are vey bad and this hike would worsen it. “There is hike in electricity tariff; things are very expensive and the salaries have remained the same despite this. Churches are distributing food and other items to members every day. Nigerians have been turned to beggars. “Most of those who are supporting the policy are doing so because they can afford to buy a litre of fuel even for N1000. But we have to think of the majority of the people whose standard of living are seriously affected.” Source: http://www.blebleblog.com/2016/05/bishop-stages-one-man-protest-against.html?m=0#more |

At Least 88 Killed In Baghdad Car Bombings Three car bombs in Baghdad have killed at least 88 people on the bloodiest day in the Iraqi capital this year. The first blast hit a busy outdoor market during Wednesday morning's rush hour in the northern district Sadr City, a predominantly Shiite area. At least 63 people were killed and 82 others were wounded. Islamic State, which considers Shiite Muslims heretics, claimed responsibility. In an online statement, the group said a suicide bomber it identified as "Abu Sulaiman al-Ansari" detonated the explosives-rigged vehicle. It was followed by a suicide blast targeting a police station in Kadhimiyah, another mostly Shiite Muslim district in the northwest of the Iraqi capital. Eighteen people were killed, including five policemen. Another 34 people were wounded. Kadhimiya is home to an important Shiite Muslim shrine and access to the frequently targeted neighbourhood is tightly controlled. In the Jamiya neighbourhood in western Baghdad, a suicide car bombing killed seven and wounded 22 . There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the later bombs, but all such attacks recently have been carried out by IS. The UN's top envoy in Iraq, Jan Kubis, condemned the bombings. "These are cowardly terrorist attacks on civilians who have done nothing but going about their normal daily lives," he said. Earlier this month, at least 18 Shia Muslim pilgrims were killed and 45 others injured by an IS car bomb in the Saydiyah neighbourhood of the Iraqi capital. The attack also comes just days after the Pentagon announced that a senior Islamic State leader in Iraq's Anbar province had been killed by a US airstrike. The strike targeted a vehicle carrying Abu Wahib, military emir for Anbar province and a former member of al Qaeda in Iraq. Three other IS members were also killed in the strike, near the town of Rutba. Source: http://www.blebleblog.com/2016/05/at-least-88-killed-in-baghdad-car.html?m=1

72-year-old woman gives birth to baby boy A seventy-two-year old Daljinder Kaur delivered a healthy baby boy after 46 years marriage and about 20 years after menopause. Kaur’s wish to have a child was fulfilled through the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF-test tube) technique, wherein the eggs and sperm are fertilised outside the womb, in a test tube. Kaur’s 79-year-old husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, had been travelling with her from Amritsar in Punjab to Hisar in Haryana since 2013 to ensure the success of the treatment, according to Hindustantimes. In July 2015, Kaur finally conceived after two failed IVF cycles. Embryologist and owner of the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre in Hisar, Dr Anurag Bishnoi, explained that Kaur first came to him alone in 2013, after reading about the centre in newspapers. Kaur own case is the second at the centre where a 70-year-old woman was delivered of a baby girl successfully through IVF. Bishnoi said, “Our track record in handling IVF in older women has been fairly good, but not everyone is fit to conceive. In her case, she looked visibly frail too, so I had to refer her to a cardiologist to get clearance for the procedure and a battery of other tests to ascertain fitness levels. “We started work within two months in 2013 but the first attempt failed, which is normal. After six months, another attempt was made and that also didn’t succeed. Finally, the third attempt was successful.” The husband blames his wife’s inability to have a child on a lack of awareness and a family feud that was on for years because of which they didn’ t get time to see a doctor. He said, “It was embarrassing to not be able to produce a child, no doubt, but we have been busy with litigation all our life and hardly had time to think it over. “After we got a little free a few years ago, we thought of trying for a baby. The newspaper article was spotted at an opportune moment.” Source: http://www.blebleblog.com/2016/05/72-year-old-woman-gives-birth-to-baby.html?m=1 |
Abomination: 22-year-old Anambra man kills, buries father in shallow grave There was confusion recently in Umuajani village, Umudioka in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State when one of its sons, 60-year-old Charles Maduekwe, who was declared missing for about three weeks, was discovered to have been killed by his own son and only child, Emeka, and buried in a shallow pit. The accused son, a self-acclaimed pastor, who operates a chapel in his father’s house when apprehended by his kinsmen confessed that he committed the abomination, saying that he did it because his late father was in the habit of placing curses on him. Before the crime was exposed, the young man was plying his trade in a prayer house and respected as a pastor in the area but all these changed as the allegation of his killing his own father came to the open. The abomination was discovered when for over two weeks the kinsmen of the late Maduekwe could not see him at events in the village and inquired from his son, who told them that he travelled. One of the kinsmen said: “When we asked him again, he said he travelled but when you looked at him ,you would know very well that he was lying. His mouth was shaking and he actually betrayed his innocence. We moved to his father’s house and there we saw some fresh sand covered with leaves and we asked him what he did there, he said he dug pit toilet there but his father said he should close it and he did so. “People became suspicious and we decided to unearth the pit and at a level confusion came in and many said there was nothing there but one of us said no we should continue that he perceived some odour and they continued and in a short time the foot of the man was seen and the boy wanted to run but the youths stopped him and pounced on him. “He confessed that he killed his father and put him into the pit, he also said that the pit took him four days to dig and that he killed him because he cursed him.” The decomposing body of the late Maduekwe was later exhumed and reburied after the people performed some traditional rituals and cleansed the land. However, Emeka was rescued from the irate youths of the community who wanted to lynch him and handed over to the police. One of those who spoke to Oriental News on condition of anonymity said: “I interviewed the boy myself with my phone, I asked him; why did you kill your dad, what did he do that you killed him? He said his father used to curse him. I asked him, how long it took him to dig the pit and he said it took him four days.” On his personal bitter experience with Emeka some months back, he said: “I lost my car in Lagos, my car broke down and I parked it in one filling station, it was a tyre problem. I went to the house to collect money and buy tyre but by the time I returned to the place I did not see my car again. The security people I paid said they did not know who took my car away. I called the village and informed them of what happened to me and some people..... Source: http://www.blebleblog.com/2016/05/abomination-22-year-old-anambra-man.html?m=1 |

Edo 2016: Oshiomhole and Odubu at War Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, and his boss, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, came on board November 12, 2008, when the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Professor Osarhiemen Osunbor, then of the Peoples Democratic Party. Oshiomhole and Odubu had since their coming enjoyed so cordial a relationship that the governor on many occasion describe his deputy as the most loyal deputy governor in Nigeria. To demonstrate to the public that there was no rancour between them, Oshiomhole had during his re-election campaign in 2012 rejected pressure from Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was then in Action Congress of Nigeria, to drop Odubu as running mate. The governor in conjunction with members of the Edo in Safe Hands, led by his Commissioner for Works, Osarodion Ogie, came to Odubu’s rescue and subdued Ize-Iyamu. Face-off But the relationship between Oshiomhole and Odubu has turned sour. Although there have been no public altercations between the two men. According to THISDAY investigation, the friction between the governor and his deputy began with the governorship ambition of Odubu, who is alleged not to have informed his principal of his ambition to run for governorship when Oshiomhole summoned his political associates, including Odubu, to support Godwin Obaseki. At the meeting, Odubu was said to have kept quiet, only to open a campaign office later. It was further learnt that because of the choice of Obaseki, Ogie, earlier believed to be the governor’s choice, had to shelve his ambition as a mark of honour to Oshiomhole. The deputy governor was expected to do the same. But he did not. Based on this, Oshiomhole was alleged to have said that since both of them joined the boat at the same time, they will disembark at the same time. Peace Meeting Indications that the relationship between the two men had gone sour emerged when Odubu’s campaign coordinator, Humphrey Uanseoje, signed a letter with four governorship aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state, which was addressed to the national leadership of the party. in the letter, they alleged plans by the state chairman of the party, Anslem Ojezua, to doctor the delegates lists with the backing of Oshiomhole. It was the first time that the deputy governor would openly accuse his boss of alleged plot to manipulate the forthcoming primaries of APC. It was on the basis of this that a peace meeting was organised on April 11 by the inner circle of APC, with supporters of Oshiomhole and Odubu in attendance, to try to reconcile them. Present at the meeting were Ogie, Ojezue, state secretary of the party, Chief Osaro Idah, Oshiomhole’s in-law, Victor Eboigbe, and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Patrick Obahiagbon. >>>>Please Continue Reading on Link Below ..
