After reading the full story I knew something was amiss, the said hospital has come forward to refute the claims- Says No student doctor ‘butchered’ any patient in Edo Specialist Hospital
The Management of Edo State Specialist Hospital, Benin City, has dismissed a claim by one Mr. Sunday Oghogho, that a student doctor ‘butchered’ his late wife at the facility, saying all surgeries in the hospital are conducted by competent specialist doctors.
It said the rebuttal became necessary following an allegation by Oghogho that the hospital was liable for the death of the deceased.
This was stated in a statement by the management, which was made available to newsmen.
Oghogho had claimed, among others, that he received a phone call from the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, on April 18 that his attention was needed at the hospital in respect of his wife’s death.
He alleged in a Facebook post that when he got to the hospital with some of his family members, they met the CMD and eight other doctors of the hospital who apologised to him and his family and admitted that they had discovered that it was a student doctor who operated on his wife.
But denying this claim, the hospital’s statement reads:
“The attention of the management of Edo Specialist Hospital, Benin City has been drawn to a publication on Facebook Titled: ‘How A Student Doctor ‘Butchered’ My Wife to Death at the Edo Specialist Hospital.
We empathize and condole with the family of Mr. Sunday Oghogho over the painful loss of his wife following complications of childbirth.
“As providers in the health care space we have sworn to preserve life and it is therefore painful for us whenever we lose a patient irrespective of the circumstances. We are bound to the oath of confidentiality and medical ethics regarding the records of patients we manage even after death but the level of falsehood contained in the above-mentioned write-up has made it imperative for us to provide clarifications limiting ourselves to the issues already placed in the public domain by the husband. Full details of her care are contained in her medical records which remain confidential except otherwise required by competent authorities.
“The hospital management had earlier received a report of an aggrieved patient relation, Mr. Sunday Oghogho, who needed further clarification on the management of the wife and subsequently invited him for a meeting with some members of the multidisciplinary team that provided care for the patient in attendance.
“After this meeting, Mr. Sunday Oghogho expressed his dissatisfaction with all the clarifications provided. He made some ludicrous demands in an attempt to get the hospital to accept responsibility for the death of the patient, which the management turned down as there was no basis to accept such responsibility.
This appears to have given rise to Mr. Sunday Oghogho’s spurious tirade on social media. We wish to assert that Edo Specialist Hospital provides excellent secondary/tertiary medical services to the people of the state.
“Furthermore, we wish to posit that all surgeries in Edo Specialist Hospital are conducted by competent specialist doctors. Specifically, the surgery was conducted by a consultant Obstetrician and subsequently, the patient was co-managed by a multidisciplinary team of Obstetricians, Hematologist, Anesthesiologist and Nephrologist in the Intensive Care Unit.
Thus the allegation that a student doctor butchered the wife is completely false. The attempt of Mr. Sunday Oghogo to also malign through his exaggerated report laced with falsehood, the CMD is also preposterous. The management understands that it is painful when one loses a loved one. We sincerely sympathize and empathize with Mr. Sunday Oghogho and his family on the death of his wife. We also use this medium to assure the public that Edo Specialist Hospital remains committed to delivering excellent health care to all its patients at all times.’’
A 43-year-old technocrat, Chukwuka Monye, has decried the level of failure of Nigeria as a nation, saying that the time to take over the governance from the older generation is now.
The Delta State-born social innovator stated this on Saturday in Asaba while declaring his intention to contest for the President come 2023 general election.
Monye whose slogan is “our future is now” wondered how the founding fathers would be content with Nigeria’s current state.
He said, “On this special day, which is also the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, I want to start by recognising and honouring our gallant and brave heroes who fought and sacrificed for the existence of our great Nation.
“Although, I wonder if our founding fathers would be content with the state of our nation day.
“Some of the questions that come to my mind are; how are Nigerians faring? How are owners of small businesses able to sustain their livelihood?
“How do we measure the value of a life when the pillars of the health sector are crumbling? How can we go about our daily lives freely when violence, crime and banditry are on the rise?
“How are we empowering our children when the educational systems are declining? How can we cater to the needs of the youth when there are not enough jobs? These are some of the questions that bother me and perhaps are questions that our heroes past and present are pondering”
“For this reason, I, Chukwuka Monye, present myself to serve as the President of this great nation, Nigeria”
Monye, who anchored his vision on security, institutional reforms, and job creation, is yet to state the party platform which he intended to contest.
A few days ago I woke up and felt the need to engage my peers about Nigeria and to come up with solutions that we could begin to implement as I am tired of complaining and lamenting about problems that seem to persist. What was interesting about the discussions were that almost every solution that was proffered was rejected, with people coming up with all manner of reasons why we couldn’t. We can over analyze! Here are some of the examples –
1. Suggestion – Some of us should step up and get involved in politics, perhaps run for the House of Representatives or Senate. Feedback – No, don’t! If you join them, you will get dirty and therefore, you will be seen as one of them.
2. Suggestion – Some of us with stellar track records in running organizations and known for transforming institutions should step up and run for executive political offices such as the office of the Governor or President. Feedback – No, don’t. They will not let go! They own INEC and you are supposed to “start small” by starting at the House of Representatives’ level.
These are two examples that lead me to ask – Who did this to us? We are endowed with problem solving skills that have been exhibited in sectors such as fintech, social media and entertainment. Have we been conditioned? Why do we have such a pessimistic view where we can’t even think or try to get out of where we are?
According to the Oxford dictionary – conditioning is “the training or experience that an animal or a person has that makes them behave in a particular way in a particular situation”.
The good news is that negative feedback loops a.k.a conditioning can be reversed by thinking positively. Has it occurred to you that almost all proponents of “you are too young to get into politics” actually got involved in their 20s? Many times, the difference between those that excel in life and those who fail is that the former is positively programmed. Positive programming is a process training our minds to see possibilities which can be realized through goal setting and execution.
I hope that Nigerians will wake up and apply their innovative capacities to pursue a New Nigeria. Encourage each other and if you cannot encourage others, do not discourage those that decide to step up.

Gal Pissetzky, a Chicago-based lawyer, has denied rumours insinuating the release of Ramoni Abbas, an alleged multi-million dollar fraudster facing charges in the U.S.
On Wednesday, screenshots of the Bureau of Prisons website, showing his release, went viral.
According to the details on the website, which were verified by this paper, Mr Abbas (popularly known as Huspuppi) was released on July 20.
Responding to PREMIUM TIMES’s enquiry, his legal representative, Mr Pissetzky, said the bureau’s records showed ‘released’ because of his transfer to California.
“These reports are not true. He has not been released. The Bureau of prisons website shows that he was released simply because he is being transferred now to California,” he said on Wednesday evening.
Mr Abbas’s case was transferred from Illinois to the Central District of California for prosecution, last Monday.
Mr Abbas, 37, who was resident in Dubai and known for flaunting extravagant lifestyle on social media, was arrested last month over wire fraud allegations. He was extradited to the U.S on July 3.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation had earlier alleged that Mr Abbas was part of a network that made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from business email compromise frauds and other scams.
Also, the American government said Mr Abbas funded his extravagant lifestyle with stolen money.
