Following predictions by some Christian and Muslim clerics that President Muhammadu Buhari will fail the 2019 elections, the National Coordinator of Buhari Presidential Support Committee, which was recently formed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Ya’u Adamu dan Fulani, has dismissed the prediction of the clerics, calling them liars. According to Dan Fulani, only God can stop Buhari from winning next year’s elections. When asked about predictions from clerics, he told The Sun: “Leave those beggars, they are liars, they always tell lies to get money from wealthy politicians. They are not god, not even saint. It is true. “I read the same story in one of the newspapers recently. The same clerics that predicted the failure of Buhari in 2015, but he eventually won with support of the majority of Nigerians. “So, I think people should not allow such predictions to work on their consciousness. It’s divine power of God, and He gives power to whom He wants and takes it from anybody He wants. This is my philosophy that I expect anybody to believe in and make his submission to. “Buhari will win 2019 election by God’s willing, and those clerics will be disappointed. The issue of Muhammadu Buhari as a president is a destiny and nobody can alter someone’s destiny, so it is wrong to make predictions based on things that are beyond their powers.”

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday, in Abuja, said his administration would continue to champion the campaign for the revival of the Lake Chad and exert more commitment from the developed countries to do the needful. The president, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, made the remarks during a courtesy call on him by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF). Adesina said Buhari who was also invested as the Patron of NCF, said it was regrettable that the issue of the receding Lake Chad had not been addressed till recent times. He quoted him as saying, ‘‘The problem of climate change is real. The desert encroachment is aggravating it. The population explosion in Nigeria is another big challenge. ‘‘The drying up of Lake Chad is a serious thing for Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin countries. Nigeria is much more affected because fishing, animal husbandry and farming are affected very seriously. ‘‘We are trying to prick the conscience of the developed countries that have the resources and the technology to quickly execute the inter basin transfer from Congo Basin to Chad Basin.” According to the statement, Buhari welcomed the advocacy by NCF on the need to protect endangered plants and animals in the country and directed the Federal Ministry of Environment to reflect this in its budgetary requirements in the next fiscal year.

In a bid to alleviate poverty and reduce the sufferings of the teeming Nigerian youths, President Muhammadu Buhari, Friday, promised to bring back the Nigeria’s cotton and textile industry. According to him, the industry would employ hundreds and thousands of Nigerians and therefore aide in the reduction of unemployment challenges the country is currently facing. Receiving the CEO of Vlisco Group, David Suddens, at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari welcomed the proposed investment of $200 million by the company in Nigeria, which will, in turn, create 700,000 jobs. ”I am very much aware of your company’s effort especially your investments in the textile industry, and it is one area that we are trying to develop because it will create employment and boost agriculture. ”To get cotton to grow again in the country is like going back to the good old days when the textile industry used to employ more than hundreds of thousands of people. ”I am very excited about the prospects of reviving the industry because it will keep farmers busy, create employment which brings more security, help the economy, transfer of technology and of course we have a large market to absorb the products,” the President said. President Buhari reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to forging a stronger economic partnership with the Netherlands, assuring the Dutch investor that the Nigerian authorities will continue to do the utmost to keep smugglers at bay at borders. In his remarks, Suddens told the President that the 172-year-old company plans to use cotton grown in Nigeria for production. ”I want a new strategy that brings Vlisco manufacturing to Nigeria. I want to change the supply chain from Asia to Nigeria. ”For the total supply chain for cotton, textile and garment industry from weaving, spinning, printing to retail, we want to use Nigeria cotton and we have already started to encourage the creative industries in the country to find a voice and give them a platform across the world. ”I am convinced that it is time for the textile industry to move from Asia to Africa, ” he said. Also speaking, the Dutch Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Robert Petri told President Buhari that the company’s visit was a follow-up to his successful visit to the Netherlands in July, during which he met with Chief Executive Officers of Dutch companies. ”Also during that visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between our two countries seeking more intensified cooperation. After that visit, there were more successive visits by top Dutch officials to Nigeria. ”This shows that we are seriously committed to furthering our collaboration,” Petri said.

The House of Representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Mustapha Maihaja as Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for allegedly mismanaging more than N33 billion. The lower chamber had inaugurated an ad hoc committee to probe NEMA’s operations under Maihaja; and when it turned in its report on Thursday, it recommended his dismissal. Nigeria’s emergency operations hardly pass any test of investigative reporting regarding scale of funding compared to the quality of relief available to victims of disasters and insurgency In December 2016, an undercover investigation exposed how government and emergency-aid officials were piling more misery on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by stealing foodstuffs and other relief materials meant for their well-being.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said he was committed to ensuring that the nation’s workers get a new minimum wage as soon as possible. Buhari made the promise at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, shortly after receiving the report of the Tripartite Committee on New Minimum Wage from the Chairman, Amal Pepple. This happened just as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, said he welcomed the news that government had accepted to pay the new minimum wage recommended by the committee. The panel recommended N30,000 as the new minimum wage for the country. The President promised to immediately put in place the necessary machinery that would address what he called open areas in the report. He said his plan was to transmit an Executive Bill to the National Assembly for passage within the shortest possible time. He said, “The committee chairman highlighted some of the challenges encountered during your deliberations, especially as it relates to having a consensus position acceptable by all parties. “I understand, on the government side, the concerns raised were around affordability – that today many states struggle to meet their existing salary requirements. On the side of labour, the points raised focused on the need for any increase to be meaningful. “In a way, both arguments are valid. I want to assure you all that we will immediately put in place the necessary machinery that will close out these open areas.” He added, “Our plan is to transmit the Executive Bill to the National Assembly for passage within the shortest possible time. “I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future.” Buhari said the government would continue to engage members of the committee as it commenced a review of the report. He, however, warned workers against being used as political weapons. “As the executive arm commences its review of your submission, we will continue to engage you all in closing any open areas presented in this report. “I, therefore, would like to ask for your patience and understanding in the coming weeks. “May I, therefore, implore workers and their leaders not to allow themselves to be used as political weapons,” the President said. Buhari said the need for a review of the minimum wage became necessary because the last review was done in 2011 and since then, prices of key consumables had increased while the most vulnerable workers were struggling to make ends meet. He said the successes recorded by the country since 2011 did not benefit the majority of Nigerians. While presenting the report to the President, Pepple said the committee recommended N30,000 as the new minimum wage and produced a draft bill to be sent to the National Assembly on the matter. In arriving at the figure, she said the committee weighed the demands of the workers which was predicated on the high cost of living occasioned by unfavourable exchange rate and rising inflation over the past few years, among other factors. She said the committee also considered the overall macro-economic indicators, including the revenue and expenditure profile of government as provided by the Ministers of Budget and National Planning and Finance as well as the minimum wage proposed by some state governments in their memoranda submitted to the committee. She added, “Consideration was also given to the critical role of the informal sector in employment generation and the need for a realistic minimum wage that will not stifle the growth of the sector and the overall economy. “After carefully weighing these critical factors and bearing in mind the overriding interest of the economy, the committee while noting the offer of N24,000 by the Federal Government, is recommending an increase in the existing minimum wage from N18,000 to N30,000. “We believe the implementation of the recommended minimum wage will, no doubt, boost the purchasing power of workers, increase consumption expenditure and ultimately stimulate business and overall economic growth.” Meanwhile, Atiku, in a statement said he welcomed the news that the Federal Government had agreed to pay the 30,000 minimum wage. The former Vice-President reiterated his commitment to a living wage, adding that one of the pillars of his soon-to-be-launched policy document was making workers welfare a priority. “The Nigerian worker is the goose that lays the golden egg and is worthy of the best pay that Nigeria can afford,” he said. Atiku commended the patriotism displayed by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and its affiliates in calling off the nationwide strike initially scheduled for Tuesday. He called on the National Assembly to speedily pass legislation that would make the new minimum wage a statutory requirement. He also called on the present administration to keep to its word and abide by the new minimum wage agreement. “No sacrifice is too great to make for us to get Nigeria working again and that is what the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation is all about.” Also on Tuesday, Buhari said a comprehensive policy of improved remuneration for workers and public servants in the country was being worked out by his administration. The President said that workers would benefit from a “genuine pension scheme” which would make them better civil servants. The President stated these in Abuja at the 2018 Nigeria’s Annual Education Conference. Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, said, “A comprehensive policy of improved remuneration for the workers in the education sector and a genuine pension scheme are already being worked out for teachers and all public servants in the country. “With the depression in the labour market, education should now be tailored towards the acquisition of skills and abilities that can make the individual a productive and self-reliant member of society. “Through the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Government has promoted Technical and Vocational Education and Training as well as developed Science and Technology Education Policy for realisation of TVET objectives and dreams.” He added, “To reduce unemployment, poverty, hunger as well as violence, people must pay less attention to education for white collar jobs and, instead, embrace education for self-reliance, job and wealth creation, which is the cardinal focus of this administration. “In 2017, the Federal Ministry of Education embarked on a National Enrolment Drive Campaign to boost enrolment, improve retention and completion rates. The exercise kicked off in Bauchi State in January 2018 with the aim of addressing the issue of out-of-school children in the country.” Source: http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/im-committed-to-giving-nigeria-new.html

Looks like Ohaneze is tilting towards Buhari than one would have projected? |
The apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Monday applauded President Muhammadu Buhari on the area of road construction in the region. The National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro made this known while briefing journalists in Abakaliki. He, however, stated that the South east region will soon take a stand on who to support in the forthcoming general election. Isiguzoro noted that Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are good presidential candidates but Igbo will soon decide on who to vote in the 2019 election. He, however, called on Buhari to fulfill his pledge on reactivation of the famous Enugu Coal Mine, which he made during his campaign tour in 2015. “In 2015, when President Muhammadu Buhari was seeking our votes, he did promise us that he would reactivate the ‘Enugu Coal Mine’ but till date the place is still moribund. “And on who to vote as President come 2019, I want to state here categorically that we are yet to take a stand”, he stressed. Isiguzoro also condemned the slow pace of work by contractors handling the ongoing rehabilitation of some federal roads in the region, noting that the delay had claimed so many lives. “I must tell you that the people of South east region is happy with President Buhari’s ingenuity particularly in the area of road rehabilitation, like the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Okigwe and Port Harcourt highways. “So, we are using this opportunity to ask the contractors to hasten up because Christmas season is just around the corner. Another reason is that many lives have been lost on road accidents along those roads”, he added. Source: http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/ndigbo-happy-with-buhari-on-road.html

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the campaign promise by the Peoples Democratic Party that its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will crash fuel price from N145 to N90 if elected as President. Speaking through, Festus Keyamo, SAN, Director, Strategic Communications of his Campaign Organisation, Buhari described the promise as laughable and a move geared towards dragging the country backward. In press release issued on Monday, the President through his campaign organization spokesperson, highlighted 20 reasons crashing the pump price of petrol will only be of grave damage to the country. The statement added, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the PDP a few days ago that its presidential candidate, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will, if elected President, crash the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre. “However, there is no better evidence of desperation and phantom promises by the main opposition’s candidate than this statement. “At today’s international price of gasoline, no supplier will ever contemplate any scheme that will deliver products at such ridiculous price. Those in the sector reading this must be having a good laugh at the opposition. “A simple check at the international prices will show that even at the world market where gasoline is procured, it will cost not less than N158 to procure a litre of crude oil. “When you add the cost of refining, plus freight, finance and port charges (premium), there is no magic that one would employ to supply the finished product at N145 a litre. Presently, the landing cost of the product in Nigeria hovers around N205 per litre. “The claim by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is opportunism of the highest order. Nigerians are aware that higher crude oil prices will translate to higher government revenues and a prudent administration will convert the resources to the benefit of the common man. “This is exactly what President Muhammadu Buhari has done since he mounted the saddle in 2015. The President has worked out a transparent system whereby the whole subsidy regime and scam has been totally eliminated. There is no cash incentive or payment again to middlemen. “In line with the President’s transparent policy, we lay bare the present system as follows: “(1) What obtained under the past government was the ABUSE of the subsidy regime. “(2) The system under the past Government was that independent marketers and all sort of persons were allowed to import petroleum products on their own, declare non-existent volumes of these products and get paid for these non-existent volumes. “(3) In addition, government would then pay them cash for the “loses” (subsidy) in selling at fixed market price. “(4) Under this old system, more than N3trillion was lost. “(5) However, when these independent marketers could no longer bring in products due to high prices of crude and make profit at the fixed market price of N145 to a litre, President Buhari refused to further raise the price of petroleum products beyond the N145 per litre. The President was also not prepared to go back to the subsidy regime. Therefore, President Buhari stopped the scam of overblown volumes and subsidy payments to middlemen. “(6) As a result, NNPC took full charge of getting products for consumption. “(7) Under this arrangement, NNPC would swap crude oil for the exact value of finished products in refineries anywhere the products are available around the world. “( Middlemen are only allowed to go and ferry the products and bring into the country and hand over to NNPC.“(9) NNPC will only then pay them for the cost of the logistics of bringing the products in (this is what is called premium). “(10) Even this cost of logistics is now subject to competitive bidding unlike before. “(11) In the past, mareters used to charge $86 per metric ton as cost of logistics (premium) to bring in products. “(12) Under Buhari’s regime when it was subjected to competitive bidding, the highest the government got was $7 per metric ton as cost of logistics to bring in products. More than N3billion has been saved by this bidding process. “(13) Having gotten the value of the crude oil back in terms of finished products, NNPC will now sell at government controlled price which is far lower than the landing cost. “(14) Presently, the landing cost is around N205 per litre, but government sells at N145 per litre. “(15) Therefore, Government just records a loss in NNPC instead of paying cash to middlemen. That loss it suffers is fully reflected when NNPC pays money into the Federation Account. “(16) This also further affects the money accruing to States monthly from the Federation Account. “(17) As a result, this loss that NNPC suffers, (which is recorded as cost of operation of NNPC) is fully subjected to scrutiny by the National Economic Council which also includes the PDP Governors and the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), which includes Commissioners of Finance from PDP States. “(18) If anybody alleges a scam in the process, then the PDP Governors and the States would also be involved because they are involved in jointly scrutinizing the records of NNPC at NEC and FAAC. “(19) No cash settlement for any under recovery is involved, therefore there is no basis for any subsidy payments which is the avenue for fraud. “(20) Therefore, it is true that Buhari is not paying subsidy to anybody. “It has become necessary for Nigerians to interrogate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar further in order for him to lay bare before the Nigerian people the so-called ‘template’ he has developed to crash the price. This is not a game of tricks or hide-and-seek. He must come clean. “Nigerians await the DETAILS of the TRANSPARENT system Alhaji Atiku Abubakar intends to adopt that would (1) Eliminate fraudulent cash payments to middlemen and (2) Make the product available at all times.” Source: http://www.nigerianeye.com/2018/11/buhari-mocks-atiku-lists-20-reasons.html
