Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man (picture above) suspected to be involved in producing babies for sale.

The ‘baby factory’ suspects, who were arrested at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on July 5, 2014, were identified as Odinchinma Nwala (25), Glory Anyanwu (22), Goodness Nwankwo (19), and Stanley Okechukwu (male, 36).

The Divisional Police Officer Mr. Bello Muhammed said:

“The girls were brought from different local government areas, and further investigation revealed that after delivering, he will pay the girls N100,000 per baby girl and N150,000 for a baby boy before selling the babies,”

Okechukwu, however denied operating a baby factory. He added that he was only rendering assistance to the young pregnant women. One of the pregnant women, who identified herself as Glory Anyanwu, said she was eight months pregnant, even as she denied that they were being kept for a baby producing business.

The Nigerian police on Monday averted a plot to bomb a secondary school in the city of Gombe State by defusing a car with explosives that had been abandoned there.

AFP has it that police bomb experts found 12 improvised explosives (IED's)concealed in a car that was abandoned on the premises of the state-run Pilot secondary school, following a tip-off.

“Our ordnance experts discovered 12 IEDs in the trunk of the car left in the vicinity of the school after we were alerted. The explosives had the capacity of causing maximum damage and would have caused huge casualty had they detonated in the school with a high student population,” he said.

Attajiri said an investigation had been launched to establish who was behind the foiled attack, refusing to say if Boko Haram insurgents can be
blamed.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) is set to destroy two million copies of pornographic and unwholesome movies valued at N10 million.

A statement signed by the Acting Head, Corporate Affairs of the board, Mr Caesar Kagho, in Abuja read that the unwholesome movies were sized within FCT and its environs between January and June 2014.

According to the statement, 60 per cent of the movies are of pornographic content while 40 per
cent are uncensored, unwholesome and pirated. The statement also said the seizures were carried out in Gwagwalada, Karu, Kubwa, Wuse market and Airport road in the FCT.

It said further that NFVCB was currently working with the Federal Ministry of Environment to secure
a dump site to burn the seized films.
