Celebrities / Reminisce! See How Kemi Olunloyo Warned Mercy Aigbe Of Possible Marriage Crash I by naijagoldgist: 10:39am On Apr 29, 2017
Controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, who has been silent for sometime now after being imprisoned for one of controversial posts, once warned Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe of a possible marriage crash.

Kemi who advised the actress to spend more time with her husband in 2016, wrote;

“hnnafrica #HNNStyle @MercyAigbeGentry is a talented #Nollywood star with a flair for “online glamour”. Nothing wrong with glamming yourself up for your fans. Most Nigerian actresses are narcissistic females to begin with and I’m a certified narcissist myself. Many Nigerian females are fake and can’t even define their own personalities but look up to female stars and want to be like them. This is why I insist I’m NOT and will never be a role model.

I have mentored many kids but never want any of them to “be like me”. There are attributes of me some parents don’t like yet they want their kids to be me. I’m outspoken, blunt and keep it real. Most women in Nigeria are not but stay as solid mumus. There is only one #KemiOlunloyo . Last month I warned Mercy in a post that she’s gonna end up like @TokeMakinwa if she doesn’t limit her glam posts online.

Honestly your husband is out there Mercy. #MajeAyida was busy elsewhere while Toke was glamming up the Gram. Mercy shows off her phone case engraved with her image, something her fans will be thirsting for too. They log on fast to see the latest fashion sense. Its nice to be addicted to celebs.

Even I as a media celebrity in US/Canada have now become the top media celebrity in Nigeria still has my own fave celeb @aihmakhuolutoyin. Spend more time with your husband Mercy. I’m seeing things you don’t see. They call me the #Snitchlady. *winks*..and stay beautiful young lady. #advice #hnnshowbiz #hnnbeauty #MadamHNN”

Family / A Single Mother Lost Three Children To Electric Sparks In Delta (must Read) by naijagoldgist: 7:14am On Apr 27, 2017
March 18, 2017, is a day Favour Elohor Gabriel, single mother of three children who died in Eku, Ethiope East local government area of Delta state can never forget in her life time. It was indeed a tragic day for her and a day no sane man could wish even an enemy to experience. If anybody had told or prophesied to Favour Elohor Gabriel, that her children would die that fateful day, she would have rebuked or worst still embark on a warfare with the person. The three children are pupils of Benders School, Eku. John Oluwadare, 16, was in JSS 3; Elizabeth Igben (9) kindergarten 3 and Blessed Igben (6). The fallen pupils, who were said to be lying at the corridor of a neighbour’s house, met their untimely death shortly after electricity was restored that evening at about 7:30 pm. An eye witness, who simply gave her name as Kevwe, told NAIJ.com that as soon as light was restored, there was a spark at an electric pole, which was connected to the neighbours’ burglary where the children were sleeping and they died on the spot. Available facts reveal that as soon as the electricity sparked, the fallen sparks dropped on the children, a development which led to the immediate death of the children.

Politics / EFCC: Anti-corruption War Of The Bastardisation And Comedy Of Discoveries By Jud by naijagoldgist: 7:31am On Apr 16, 2017
Ever since the whistle blowing policy of the federal government was announced in December of 2016, there has been a frenzy of activities in the anti-corruption sector of the economy. While many have been excited by these activities, others have approached the issue with deserving skepticism.
This is because a majority of Nigerian officials would always find ways of “legally” enriching themselves by circumventing government policies meant to improve the society.
With the sudden gale of humongous sums claimed to have been uncovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, one begins to suspect that there is more to it than meets the eye especially when the Head of the organization has been described by the Directorate of State Security Services, DSS, as one who “has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration”.
This damning verdict on Magu by the DSS was passed after what the security agency described as a painstaking investigation into the activities of the Borno born police officer while serving as EFCC’s Acting Chairman.
That report by the DSS nailed the coffin on Magu’s expected confirmation by the senate, and since then, Mr Magu and his backers in Aso Rock have gone so desperate to push for Magu’s retention by the president despite the negative security report on him and his non-confirmation by the senate as required by law.
Part of the script to get a gullible section of the Nigerian public on his side is to get the easily excitable ones who seem to form a majority of the populace entertained with what looks like phantom discoveries and uncovering of humongous sums of money without any trace of the owners.
Such movies are, of course, very easy to act. All that would always be needed is the cooperation of those who have formed themselves into a cabal that has come to needlessly hate the senate and would do anything to spite that institution even if it means helping Magu get some monies from amenable government financial institutions to plant somewhere and later turn around to claim that Magu’s EFCC has discovered the same money where it was planted, hence, most of the discovered funds have no owners attached to them.
For example, how could anyone with brains believe that the EFCC actually discovered the large sum of N49m at the baggage screening section of the airport without either identifying the owner or apprehending the conveyor? How did anyone ferry that huge sum in five sacks through the screening machines of the airport and was not detected? Not that the money was hidden among other items, but were just all in five different sacks on their own, yet, passed through the screening machines without being detected?
Why has the EFCC not shown Nigerians the CCTV footage of the person purported to have ferried the money into the airport and ask Nigerians to help identify and apprehend him? Who were those who screened the sacks and passed them through before they got to the baggage section?
And as if that was not bad enough, few days later, the EFCC claimed to have discovered another N448m in a Lagos Shop on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, still without an owner. One would have thought that the EFCC would be more circumspect in its operations so as not to cast doubts on them, but its desperation to be seen to be working has made it fall into the temptation of exciting Nigerians with ear-tingling news of discoveries. Somebody rented that shop; the shop has an owner. Where are they and who are they? Unless such vital information is provided, Nigerians would continue to deride the senseless Nollywood-like discoveries of the anti-graft agency as an action inspired by selfishness and desperation.
It is the same story with the N250m purportedly uncovered in the popular Balogun market few days after. That one, like its twin brothers, has no owner!
The latest of these discovery series are the $38m, N23m and £27,000 purportedly uncovered at Osborne Towers in the high brow Victoria Island area of Lagos. Since that discovery, several parties have been linked to its ownership without any clear indication as to who the actual owner is. That is exactly what happens when your discovery prowess seems to beat that of even Discovery Channel!
A good number of Nigerians are suspecting that these purported discoveries are nothing but stunts instigated by the federal government and scripted by the anti-graft agency just to either divert attention of the Nigerian public from the failures of the current administration and or for the laundering of Mr Magu’s already badly battered image.
A more disturbing angle to it all is the notion in some quarters that those who are pulling these stunts might just be pulling them to deceive the FG, the media and the general public while they smile away to the bank with their 5% reward from the federal government whistleblowing reward policy.
It is believed that those behind these dramas, which can be a powerful ring of highly placed persons, only plant the monies somewhere and raise a whistleblower who “tips off” the anti-graft agency who in turn swoops on them. And in order not to cause confusion about it and or blow open their lid, they sell the stories of the monies being abandoned by unknown persons only for them to claim the 5% whistleblowing reward on the monies through their fake whistleblower. This possibility is very real in the strange circumstances of the spate of sudden discoveries of cash in places where the owners of either the cash or the buildings they are discovered are not identified or even known.
So while Nigerians get easily excited by such news, the whistleblowing ring smiles to the banks with “legally” earned money (I am sure no one wants to know how much 5% of $38m is in today’s exchange rate value. That’s a whopping N580m at a conservative rate of N305/$, not to talk of other “recoveries” running into hundreds of millions of naira. So that’s good business for our new whistleblowing cabal. Let no one be deceived).
This is similar to the abuse the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, once said was going on in the Central Bank where some powerful individuals are said to just sit in their gardens and call for hard currencies from the apex bank at very ridiculous or even no rates, sell to the Bureau De Change operators at prevailing market rate, make huge sums of profits and return the “borrowed” hard currencies back to the CBN while these highly placed individuals keep the profits.
One should not be surprised if that same ring has found its way into the anti-corruption war and are taking advantage of the loopholes in government’s good intentions about the whistleblowing policy, and making money for themselves through phantom discovery of monies without owners.
To stop this trend, the whistleblowing policy should be strengthened, and reward should go to only those whose whistleblowing not only lead to the discovery of cash but also the proper identification of the owners for arrest and prosecution. If not, powerful individuals will continue to source huge sums of money from government owned financial institutions, plant same somewhere, raise a fake whistleblower who discovers the money, get the percentage reward on it, and go to court to obtain a forfeiture order, and the money returns to government, and the cycle continues.
I do not trust the EFCC under Magu. An institution that is reputed for feeding the public with deliberate falsehood about suspects and facts of court proceedings as in the case of Col Nicholas Ashinze which has led to the stalling of that case cannot be trusted especially as the DSS has also confirmed that Magu has failed the integrity test. A man who has been confirmed by the DSS to have failed the integrity test can always fall for anything including the 5% that follows the whistleblowing report leading to the recovery of monies that have no one identified as their owners.
While Magu seems incurably fascinated by the attention he gets from the media, he lost about four high profile cases in just one week, an outcome that confirms the fact that his strategy of media trials and razzmatazz has seized his attention from diligent investigation and prosecution.
Making the counting of the monies uncovered a public show was needless just as it vitiates the seriousness otherwise attached to the anti-corruption fight and reduces same to nothing but a comedy designed to amuse rather than cleanse the society. All these have led to the bastardisation of the anti-corruption war. One of the most potent solutions to these charade going on is for government to look for a more competent and honest man/woman with clean records (and there are plenty of them out there) to take charge of the agency if we must achieve meaningful result in this fight!
Lastly, I implore the DSS not to shy away from commencing an investigation into this sudden gale of discoveries by the EFCC with a view to ascertaining their authenticity and help bring this madness to a halt. Anyone found complicit in the suspected “planting and harvesting” of monies anywhere should be brought to book immediately. This way, the confidence of Nigerians would be restored in the anti-corruption war.

Politics / Meningitis: Zamfara State Governor Response To Emir Of Kano Statement by naijagoldgist: 6:24am On Apr 16, 2017
On April 5th, Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II took a swipe at the Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, over his recent controversial statement that the current meningitis epidemic is as a result of the prevalence of immorality in the country. The Emir of Kano in a post shared on his IG page, said Yari’s statement had no basis in Islam. In recent times, the monarch has been canvassing for a change in the thought process of Muslims in Nigeria, particularly towards embracing science and modern day techniques.
Propellerads
In a statement released by his media aide, Yari kicked against the monarch new found stance against the practice of Islam in Nigeria. He says the Emir’s reaction to his comment doesn’t change the fact that everything must be linked to good whether fair or foul. Read his statement below
For those who consider the emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II to be anything but a first class intellectual, a consummate banker and a bona fide member of Nigeria’s royalty, the last couple of weeks were a dizzying spectacle of mixed messages on integrity, royalty and wisdom.
Within a perimeter of weeks, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, whose royal tentacles and social networks traverse the length and breadth of this country, lambasted the nation’s economic framework, the northern elite, sub-national leadership especially the governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the traditional institution of marriage.
All frontiers that we hold so dear
With due respect to our highly revered traditional institutions and royal fathers, as a blue-blooded family member himself, Hon Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar holds the emir in very high esteem. He believes that the emir as a brother and co-occupant of elite positions in Nigeria, he could advice governors and those in positions of authority in several chains of communication that are richly available to him. But he preferred the public platform, for reasons best known to him.
Governor Yari firmly believes that a country that goes to its pastors and Imams who recommend prayer and fasting as the solution to every social misfortune, from matrimonial disagreements, to social and economic complications needs to be wary of the wrath of God in the event of an epidemic of unquantifiable proportion such as Type C meningitis. And as a country that succumbs to the supremacy of Allah, we must continue to link Him with all things, fair or foul.
Those who want to equate science with God, like HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II can denounce Yari’s statement from the rooftops but that will not change Governor Yari’s beliefs in the omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence of Allah.
By a certain bizarre coincidence too, like a prophesy foretold, Sheikh Mahmood Jaafar had before he was assassinated named Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as one of those whose hypocrisy would bring an epidemic of monumental proportions to this country. The tapes are very much in circulation long after Sheikh Jaafar death,
He had argued in that sermon that “Sanusi Lamido is one of the enemies of Islam who would assume all traits of a good Muslim but deep inside them is a hatred of Islam, and the people far beyond human imagination.” Could this be a prophecy foretold?
However, the emir should be aware that Allah who gives power to whoever He wills at His own time, also takes it away at the most inauspicious time. As elected officials, we are obliged to serve people just as we serve God. Within this precinct Governor Yari has done his best. As representatives of the best of our traditions, our Emirs, chiefs, kings and queens are also obliged to lead by example, show empathy, adjudicate with compassion, display wisdom and embrace the fear of God, in all they do. In this HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II is struggling.
Recently, our erudite emir has been mired in several controversies, which rather than enhance his profile and the integrity of royalty, has put him very much on the spot. And the emir has put up a spirited defence of all the allegations against him. But he was not transparent enough, as he always accused officials, especially governors, to tell the public what he found in the Kano Emirate palace coffers when he ascended the exalted throne. This is the least of his people’s expectations of him. It was the first that our finest royalty would offer.
Sacrifice is another attribute known to our royal fathers. But when an emir pledges to commit his hard earned resources for the face-lifting of the palace where he alone would reside and eventually transfers the burden to his impoverished subjects, there is a breach, or a problem.
Late Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki, of blessed memory, used his money to rebuild the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto to his taste, but until his demise, he never tendered the bill to his subjects for reimbursement.
Over time, we know our traditional fathers for their compassion. When their friends from far and near offer to assist them, they would rather the assistance was given to alleviate the sufferings of their people in cash or kind. But for a traditional ruler who identifies the problems of his people and utters these words: “We are in denial. The north-west and the north-east, demographically, constitute the bulk of Nigeria’s population, but look at human development indices, look at the number of children out of school, look at adult literacy, look at maternal mortality, look at infant mortality, look at girl-child completion rate, look at income per capita… The north-east and the north-west Nigeria are among the poorest parts of the world,” and yet when his friends offered help, he asks for a Rolls Royce.
There is more than a fundamental problem. There is a big disconnect. Like Governor Yari has always said, his respect for our creator will never waver. He will also rue joining issues with royalty, in Nigeria or anywhere in the world. He maintains that his reverence of the institution that HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II represents is also unshaken. Hon Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar is only asking HRH to either practice what he preaches or forever keep his peace, because in a situation where epidemics are taking our children, maternal mortality, uneducated youth, social vices and incompetent leaders are the national scourge, to borrow the words of the emir, and all he wants to do is ride a Rolls Royce in the face of palpable poverty, he shouldn’t engage in throwing accusations at others.
Kano kingdom is an important kingdom amongst the kingdoms in Africa. It is also an important and strategic institution in the history of Nigeria. The occupants of the seat before HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II played a significant and dignified role in making Nigeria what it is today. They respected themselves. HRH should emulate his predecessors and not play to the gallery in a manner that ridicules his own heritage.

Politics / "The Award Of Overseas Scholarships To Students May Be Discontinued" Dr Bello Gu by naijagoldgist: 7:25am On Apr 13, 2017

Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Dr Bello Gusau, on Wednesday, April 12, said that the award of overseas scholarships to students may be discontinued.

Gasau said the present scholarship arrangement, which is disproportionately focused on the Overseas Scholarship Scheme is not sustainable any longer.

A statement by PTDF spokesman, Mr Kalu Otisi, quoted Gusau to have stated this at an interactive session with Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria.

Education / FUTA, PLSU, FUNAAB, Uniabuja Union Solicit To Sack 4 Vcs Over Alleged Corrupt Pr by naijagoldgist: 10:32pm On Apr 12, 2017
Ugwoke also called on the Federal Government to set up a special committee to investigate the spate of impunity in the university system and the victimisation of SSANU leaders in the recent times.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Wednesday in Abuja called for the sack of four Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities over alleged corruption leveled against them.

Mr Samson Ugwoke, SSANU National President, made the call when the union picketed the University of Abuja.

Ugwoke listed the alleged corrupt vice-chancellors as those of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB); Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA); University of Abuja (UniAbuja), and Plateau State University (PLSU).

“Any Vice-Chancellor that has been alleged of corruption and arraigned before a competent court must be directed to step aside in line with Public Service Rule.

“If judges alleged of were directed to step aside pending the determination of criminal charges proffered against them, why not Vice-Chancellors?

“Vice-Chancellors have no immunity and Government must not create immunity where it does not exist.

“The Federal Government must ensure the protection of whistle blowers at the Federal Universities.

“We also demand the reversal of all punitive actions like, demotions, denial of annual increments and promotion, wicked posting, among others, against our members.

“We also demand that the Chairman and Secretary of SSANU, University of Abuja chapter, Mr Jude Nwabueze, and Mr Nurudeen Yusuf be recalled back to work with immediate effect.

“We demand that high-powered Visitation Panel be set up by the Federal Government for all the Federal universities to investigate the administration of finances, employment and other aspects of governance of the university system,” he said.

Ugwoke also called on the Federal Government to set up a special committee to investigate the spate of impunity in the university system and the victimisation of SSANU leaders in the recent times.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that SSANU had on several occasions written to the Minister of Education over alleged mismanagement, fraud, employment spree and slash in their salaries.

Others are wrongful termination of employment without salaries, harassment, victimisation and persecution by the Vice-Chancellors over whistle blowing of corruption, among others.

“We are protesting against corruption in the Nigerian universities, this is SSANU contribution to ensure clean university system.

“Our overriding interest lies in the sanctity of the university system and also to sanitise it for the future generations, ” he added.

The union also staged a protest in front of the Federal Ministry of Education to submit their letter of demand to the Minister of Education, Mallal Adamu Adamu.

Mr Bello Umar, Director, Human Resources, Federal Ministry of Education, while receiving the letter on behalf of the minister said that their grievances would be given due consideration.

“Since the inception of this administration, it has been zero tolerance to corruption and i want to solicit your support to be patience, while i assure you that we will definitely get to the roots of these issues, ”he said.

NAN reports that the protesters, who carried placards with inscriptions such as; “Federal Government, our universities need urgent intervention now”, `Vice-Chancellors, respect our institution, obey court order”.

Others are,“Arraign Vice-Chancellors for corruption”, “Impunity must end”, among others.

Meanwhile, the Student Union Government (SUG) blocked the entrance of the school with their bus preventing the protesters from gaining entrance.
