Politics / Nnamdi Kanu's Biafran Bark Is Looking Worse Than His Bite by Naijiant: 7:22pm On Nov 04, 2018
Nnamdi Kanu, who calls himself the "leader" of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was back on Radio Biafra yesterday evening, spitting fire and brimstone about Biafran "restoration", claiming that it was "scriptural" as "the time has come for Chukwu Okike Abiama to gather his people to return them where they belong".

This place of belonging is Biafra.  And God (Chukwu Okike Abiama) promised to "deliver us from the shackles and bondage" of the "Zoo" aka Nigeria.  He told us he prayed seven times a day and his purpose on this earth was to serve his people.

Kanu barked a lot and seemed barking mad to this observer, who was neither medically qualified nor sold on Kanu's dodgy theology.  But the man himself had something to say about people like me who didn't agree with him: "[God should] Let confusion be their portion and throw them into the pit".  While naysayers were trying to make themselves comfortable in the pit, Biafra will be restored and Kanu and his people will "build a temple at Arochukwu as of old" to "Chukwu Okike Abiama".

Politics / Amnesty International: Nigerian Soldiers Used Excessive Force Against Shias by Naijiant: 2:08pm On Nov 02, 2018
Strong evidence that soldiers used automatic firearms on Shi’a Muslims holding religious procession and protest
At least 39 protesters killed, and 122 injured, in a single day
Victims include men, women and children

An investigation by Amnesty International shows that the horrific use of excessive force by soldiers and police led to the killing of at least 45 supporters of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) over two days, as the Shi’a Muslim group held a peaceful religious procession around Abuja.

Amnesty researchers visited five different locations in Abuja and Nasarawa state where wounded IMN supporters were receiving treatment, including two locations where bodies were deposited. Researchers spoke with victims, eyewitnesses and medical practitioners, and analyzed videos and photographs of those injured and killed during the protests, which took place on Saturday and Monday.

Politics / Who Is The Force Behind Rochas Okorocha's Woes In Imo State? by Naijiant: 12:19pm On Nov 02, 2018
Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha, who completes his second term in office next year, had grand plans to be succeeded by his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu.  But it appears those plans have been derailed by some players in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwosu appears to have failed in securing the APC ticket for the governorship, with the party hierarchy seeming to have backed Senator Hope Uzodinma.  Despite many attempts at shuttle diplomacy with Okorocha trying to get President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and several veiled threats by the governor to quit the party, claiming that the APC was about to lose 5m votes if they didn't back his son-in-law.

Okorocha's attempts to bring Buhari on his side failed because, according to a source close to one of the players, a relatively unknown politician from Imo State has been influencing the president's thinking.

Do you know how many have been killed under the Buhari regime? In December 2015, the army killed 348 - according a Kaduna State govt inquiry. The Shia said it was over 1,000 killed. What sort of country kills over 300 civilians and nothing happens to the people responsible?

Politics / Saudi Arabia Gave Buhari A Contract To Kill The Shia In Nigeria by Naijiant: 1:10am On Nov 02, 2018
Ibrahim Musa, a spokesman for the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) said on Iran's Press TV yesterday that Mohammed Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, gave Nigeria a "contract" to deal with the Shia-dominated movement.

Saudi Arabia and its ruling family belong to the Sunni Islamic sect.  Musa was speaking as a guest on the Iranian state-owned Press TV and added that the other reason the government of President Muhammadu Buhari was attacking Shias was due to a personal grouse between the president and the founder of IMN, Ibraheem Zakzaky. Buhari locked up Zakzaky when he first came to power as a military dictator in 1984 and the Shia leader wasn't released until Buhari was overthrown.

Politics / What Is Going On In Kaduna State? by Naijiant: 11:35pm On Oct 31, 2018
It must be noted that this crisis is not the first this year to engulf Kasuwan Magani. At least 12 persons, 1,000 houses and several cars were destroyed in a religious crisis that erupted on 26 February over the conversion of a Christian girl to Islam by her Muslim boyfriend. 65 persons were subsequently arrested and charged to court by the state government.

The history of Kaduna state is filled with crises cutting across religious, economic and tribal issues. The various governments, both military and civilian have been unable to prevent the lawlessness in various areas of Kaduna. The state government’s helplessness was laid bare during the 2016 crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Godogodo town. The payment of compensation only for cattle killed in the crisis exposed the unwillingness of government to confront these security threats head-on.

Politics / German TV Accuses Buhari Of Repeating The Boko Haram Mistakes With The Shia by Naijiant: 8:38pm On Oct 30, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari's government stands accused of abusing human rights and oppressing a minority group after clashes over the weekend and on Monday, in which scores of people were killed. Nigeria's main Shiite Muslim movement IMN said that troops shot and killed at least 27 of its members during a procession to the capital Abuja. These claims have not been independently verified.

Violence broke out when soldiers at a military checkpoint prevented the procession from entering Abuja to mark Arbaeen which occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura,  a day of mourning for Shiites. In the past, the event has often ended in clashes owing to intervention by security forces.

The march at the weekend was more than just a religious rite, since it was also meant to pressure authorities to release the Shiite cleric Ibrahim Zakzaky. The founder and leader of the Shiite Islamist Movement of Nigeria (IMN), has been in jail since December 2015. At the time, security forces killed more than 300 adherents of the movement in the so called Zaria massacre in Kaduna state.

We should allow Igbos to decide ?(coz u want to economic with truth. It's BIAFRA) Well, why not preach same to Nigeria state to allow Biafrans to decide through #BiafraReferendum if to continue to exist with u or not, but ur hypocrite won't allow u write on that.

Finally, starting ur exposition of lies with Nigeria state which is presently having a negative effects on u and ur family and leave a man who's even fighting to make life easier for u.

How long shall people continue to fool themselves in this British business center? Is there any spell cast upon the masses by the political class? How people reason and act here beats my imagination
Like Fela said, make you no follow follow, use your sense. If you are an Igbo man, you should know that they don't follow like sheep.

Yes, let people decide where they want to be - that is democracy. But don't decide for them. Kanu decided that Biafra will be a Jewish state before asking people if that is what they want. You can't force people to convert. The other day, he said Biafra Kingdom will be restored. Do you know what a "kingdom" is? I think most Igbos a republican by nature and culture. What they would want is a republic.

Kanu is not fighting for me. Get that through your head. He never asked me which fight we should fight.

You and Kanu should not claim to speak for Igbo people or Biafrans. Don't claim they want a Jewish State until you ask them. The overwhelming majority of Igbos are Christians.

Politics / Israeli TV Interviewer Didn't Believe Nnamdi Kanu Is A Jew by Naijiant: 8:19pm On Oct 29, 2018
As he signed off, the interviewer thanked Kanu and inadvertently showed that he wasn't convinced by the person that claimed to be a Jew.  Kanu was referred to as "Nnamdi Kanu from the Igbo people in Biafra".  Perhaps the interviewer felt that, if it looks like an Igbo, talks like an Igbo, it can't possibly be a Jew.

Today, he said this broadcast was to his IPOB "family".  It seemed he was intent on shoring up their support as he claimed that many "went astray" when he was "away".  It looked like the sheep had lost their shepherd.  He said he was in Israel, but this was no "Sermon on the Mount".  It was more like a rant on the radio by a shock jock that trying to cram in all his pet peeves against Nigeria and all the folks that had wronged his people, the Biafrans.

Politics / Fashola’s Politics Of Ignorance by Naijiant: 11:39am On Oct 27, 2018
Fashola’s fallacies about a “return to power” to the southwest are nothing but unadulterated ignorance. The best thing that could be said in his favour is that he knew that a Yoruba president didn’t really mean that Yorubas are in power. And he was just engaging in ethnocentric politics to deceive his audience into voting for his boss, divert their attention from the real issues such as the failures of this regime, and for Buhari to keep Fashola in his job after 2019. Neither explanation shows the minister for power failure in a good light.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Blows Hard On His Return To Radio Biafra by Naijiant: 8:50pm On Oct 21, 2018
Nnamdi Kanu, the self-styled leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), spoke to his followers on the internet-based Radio Biafra for the first time since he was arrested by Nigerian security officials on 18 October 2015.  It was typical blowhard demagoguery, short on substance and must have convinced nobody apart from his fanatical followers.

Kanu went missing after the Nigerian army raided his father's home on 14 September last year.  He was meant to be on bail pending his trial for "criminal conspiracy, intimidation and membership of an illegal organisation".  He wasn't seen in public after the raid until a video and pictures of him in Israel were published online last Friday.  Radio Biafra, the station that made Kanu well known to the Nigerian public, then announced that their leader will speak today at 6pm local time.

There were so many questions to be answered.  Where was he since the army raid?  Did he escape the raid?  Why has he been silent since then?  What is he doing in Israel?  When did he arrive there?  However, the man of the hour didn't arrive on the hour.  He was perhaps fashionably late - by eight minutes.  Maybe it was technical problems at the station.  But he did say that he and his IPOB "family" are "civilised people".  Keeping to time is the civilised thing to do - and would surely set them apart from Nigeria that he wants Biafra to secede from.

He said he was back on Radio Biafra after four years to preach a "gospel of redemption".  "The Kingdom of Biafra" was "invevitable" and it was their mission to "restore or die restoring Biafra".  It was a slight concern that what Kanu wanted to restore was a "kingdom" and not a democratic state.  He didn't tell listeners who would be king in this kingdom.

Politics / "I Earn Barely Enough To Survive" - Lai Mohammed Lying At Chatham House by Naijiant: 2:14pm On Oct 19, 2018
Lai Mohammed, Nigeria's propaganda minister, spoke at Chatham House in London on Wednesday morning.  Responding to a question about the cost of governance in Nigeria and excessive pay for governors, legislators and so on, he said he didn't know how much senators earned, "I know how much I earn, it is barely enough to survive".

Mohammed didn't say how much it was, whether he was on minimum wage, or whether information about ministers' pay was in the public domain.  It was the sort of evasive and non-specific answers he gave the audience during the Q&A session that followed his typically bland presentation with a lot of questionable information.

The bad news for Obi and his many supporters is that now he is in the (s)election season spotlight, his record as governor will face more scrutiny than he can cover up with the empty bombast from his speaking tours.

In 2012 students of Anambra State University (ANSU) in Uli campus rioted because of the burden of tuition fees increases to 119,000 naira (about $326) and 129,000 ($354).  The students burnt down several offices, including the vice chancellor’s. Governor Obi sent the state police’s anti-robbery squad to restore order in the campus.  Just before increasing those fees Obi said: "Education in Anambra state is not meant for the poor".
