When has Igbo become so ethically compromised that they must defend even thieves from Igboland? Are these Igbo not aware that such fight, like in the case of Stella Oduah not only ridicules the Igbo but belittles them before others? What happens to the sanctimonious resolve of our fore fathers never to get involved in war of blame? At the risk of being tagged once again as anti-Igbo by rabid, commissioned slave traders who see Ndigbo as easy wares to be marketed to their political masters, I write this open letter to my people. At the huge risk of being called names by my brothers and sisters, I boldly write this piece to my people. I have been called names in the past for speaking out and I may be wrong but please forgive me. I write because I know that a story that must be told never forgives silence. I write despite all odds because I know that when a writer is silent he or she is lying. I write because I want things to be done differently, because I know that the greatest part of hell will be reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of great moral crisis. I write knowing fully well that I am not the best God ever created and therefore mine cannot be the last word. Two incidents involving Mrs. Stella Oduah, who was removed as a Minister for corruption, and General Ihejirika, who just retired from the Nigerian Army necessitated this open letter..... The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday confirmed that it has arrested and detained Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, a PDP gubernatorial hopeful in Edo State who is involved in high level oil theft. It was learned from EFCC sources that $50million has been found in an account belonging to Tenebe. On Thursday Sahara Reporters reported that Mr. Tenebe was reported to have shocked investigators as he had revealed to them he enjoyed the cover of several top government officials and politicians, naming Mike Oghiadomhe, a former Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan; Tony Anenih, chair of the PDP Board of Trustees; and Diezani Alison Madueke, the Petroleum Resources Minister. EFCC admitted the arrest in a statement but tried to cover up the powerful men and women: “The attributions ascribed to the unknown and unnamed EFCC source is shocking as it runs contrary to the established media protocol at the Commission,” the statement said. “For the benefit of members of the public who may have been misled by the attributions, all information emanating from the EFCC to the media are authenticated by the designated official spokesperson, which is not the case with this report.” It is unclear if the EFCC statement was supposed to have been taken seriously by anyone, as it was not signed by its own spokesman or any known official of the commission. That suggests that the response was indeed authored by someone within the government. In the face-saving press statement, the EFCC failed to explain why Mr. Tenebe was arrested and put under investigation for close to one week without making the information public or charging the suspect to court. “It is important to state here that no serving or former petroleum resources minister or public figure has been linked to the investigation in question,” the commission said, adding that the findings of its investigation about Tenebe would be made public in due course. Citing what it described as its corporate “integrity,” the EFCC declared that it is not “a pliable institution that is susceptible to manipulation by vested interests.” “Claims, that the Commission ‘had been under intense pressure from several quarters to muddle up the case in order to spring the suspect free’ is an ingenious invention to impugn the integrity of the EFCC,” it said. But SaharaReporters learned from investigators today that the $50 million found in Mr. Tenebe’s account were a leftover of deposits from the illegal sale of crude oil through Saltpond Oil platform in Ghana. As was previously reported, the gubernatorial candidate, backed by powerful PDP bigwigs, as well as officials of the presidency and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, enjoyed complete impunity until the US investigators forced the Nigerian government to look into his activities. It was that US intervention that last week compelled the EFCC to arrest him. Even then, the EFCC kept the arrest under wraps until our story appeared. “The agency (EFFC) refused to make his arrest public as pressure mounted by Tenebe’s accomplices within the Nigerian government and the PDP party hierarchy.” says an anti-corruption activist familiar with Tenebe’s arrest. Jarrett Tenebe, a Peoples democratic Party gubernatorial candidate and a politically well-connected oil thief arrested by the EFCC reportedly shocked investigators by revealing that he received cover from several senior government officials and top politicians, including Mike Oghiadomhe, ex-Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan; Chief Tony Anenih, chair of PDP board of trustees and the Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke. The EFCC was still holding Mr. Tenebe after arresting him last week for alleged theft of massive amounts of crude oil in Nigeria. An EFCC source disclosed that Mr. Tenebe, who hails from Edo State, told investigators that his powerful political patrons and protectors enabled him to carry out lucrative crude oil theft from Nigeria under the guise of evacuating stolen crude on behalf of the federal government. Among the political patrons are: Mrs. Alison-Madueke, Oghiadomhe, Anenih, a close confidant of President Jonathan, and James Jephthah. According to Sahara Reporters, the stolen crude oil was reportedly sold in Ghana. The suspect, Mr. Tenebe, came under renewed scrutiny after US investigators informed the Nigeria’s law enforcement authorities that several vessels linked to Mr. Tenebe’s Fenix Impex Nigeria Limited were involved in the ferrying of stolen crude from Nigeria to Ghana via the Saltpond oil platform in the West African country. EFCC source disclosed that the agency was able to arrest Mr. Tenebe only because US investigators were involved. The source added that, since the suspect’s arrest last week, the EFCC had been under intense pressure from several quarters to muddle up the case in order to spring the suspect free. Our sources revealed that this is the second time Mr. Tenebe and his main collaborator have been in trouble this year. Earlier this year, the suspect and Peter Omoh Dunia (aka Peter Black), a close political associate of Tony Anenih in Edo state, were also arrested, but they were able to pull political strings that ensured their release without prosecution. In March 2014, Nigerian soldiers, who were under the command of Brigadier General Azinta, had arrested Mr. Tenebe and Mr. Dunia. The two men’s arrest came after soldiers found fraudulent crude oil evacuation contracts in their possession. One Rear Admiral Austin Oyagha of the Nigerian Navy reportedly signed the evacuation documents on behalf of the Nigerian navy. Following their arrest by the soldiers in Benin City, Mr. Tenebe and Mr. Dunia were caught red handed when they tried to bribe Brigadier General Azinta, the brigade commander of the Nigerian Army in Benin. Both men were in possession of $65,000, which was meant to bribe General Azinta. Our EFCC source disclosed that the brigade commander reportedly played along with his would-be bribers for some days before arranging their arrest. The army officer handed over the bribe money to investigators as evidence against the two suspects. However, the brigade commander was told that the suspects would be moved to Bayelsa State and handed over to the Joint Task Force (JTF). The move was part of a design to ensure their smooth release without prosecution. One of our sources told SaharaReporters that James Jephthah (aka Octopus), a very close friend of President Goodluck Jonathan, used his access to Aso Rock to obtain approval for the transfer of the case to Bayelsa where he eventually influenced the JTF to release Mr. Tenebe. The EFCC officially declined to comment on the ongoing investigation of the Saltpond scam. However, a top official of the agency disclosed that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, had ordered the agency not to take any action until her return to Abuja. Ms. Alison-Madueke is currently on a short vacation in the UK while awaiting the completion of the multi-million dollar renovation of her Abuja mansion. A source at the EFCC told SaharaReporters that Mr. Tenebe’s political contacts had helped him to get appointed as an agent who sells crude oil seized from illegal marketers. The source added, however, that Mr. Tenebe’s politically powerful sponsors also arranged for the suspect to lift additional hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil, which he sold at great profit to different European oil dealers using Ghana as the point of sale. Prophet T.B. Joshua gave another surprising revelation in his church service on Sunday 7th August 2014, specifically calling for prayers for Pope Francis of the Catholic Church, as well as prophesying an imminent hijacking of a plane by ‘militants’. “There is a very big religious leader,” Joshua began, describing the said person as a ‘father’ figure, widely respected across different religions. “I have been praying for him,” he continued, adding that he received an alarming ‘vision’ concerning him the prior day. They should pray for him,” Joshua proceeded. “The clergyman I am talking about is the Pope,” he then clarified. Continuing, Joshua prophetically warned of a plane being hijacked by ‘militant’ forces in a dramatic scene that would result in ‘breaking news’ worldwide.“They will attempt to enter a plane,” the cleric declared. “You will hear ‘Breaking News’ of a hijacker inside the plane that carried the plane from its original direction to another direction.” “We should pray so that it will not just end like that and we learn that there’s a crash,” he said, seemingly referring to the infamous Al Quaeda attack against America on September 11th 2001 where four commercial planes were hijacked by the terrorists. “This is another big attempt they want to do,” Joshua warned, soliciting heightened security checks in airports worldwide to avert the impending disaster. Last week, T.B. Joshua gave a widely reported prophecy concerning ‘approaching’ world events. He said he had a vision of US President Barack Obama being rushed to hospital with a health challenge, a plane crash in the region around Russia and Ukraine and a political crisis in Nigeria sparked by the murder of a ‘bigshot’. Joshua reminded those in church of the prophecy, adding that the killing of al-Shabab’s spiritual leader Ahmed Abdi Godane by US forces in an airstrike on Monday showed ‘God’ was involved. Joshua had specifically called for prayer for Kenya related to a ‘militant’ plan in place to attack a presidential figure in Southern Africa. Culled from www.afrinaija.com |
