According to information obtained by Leadership, no fewer than 550 soldiers fled to Maiduguri from Bama as they could no longer withstand the fire-power of Boko Haram men. Nigerian soldiers run?

Scores were killed in Bama town while the heavy battle with Boko Haram and Nigerian soldiers lasted. In the wee hours of Monday, terrorists riding on several trucks led by armoured tanks stormed the town located about 50km north of Gwoza town.

The soldiers at the entrance of Bama coming from Gwoza, near the Mopol Barracks in Bama, were said to have engaged the terrorists who came in numbers equal to a full battalion.
But some military sources claimed the affected soldiers did not flee Bama alongside civilians because they were overwhelmed by the insurgents, but were asked to retreat into Maiduguri to avoid casualty during the planned air raids on Bama.

Military sources who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri said the soldiers were able to kill about 70 of the terrorists and injure about 30 others.

An official of the State Security Service who spoke off the record confirmed the incident, even as he said more troops were being sent to Bama to beef up security presence.

A local security official, Muhammed Gava, told Leadership on phone that the insurgents came from the Banki town and heading for Bama when they encountered soldiers and began exchange of fire before they later invaded the town.

Several Boko Haram members early Monday morning invaded Bama, the second largest city in Borno state with the aim of taking over the town as usual, but things were not the same any more as those in the area said Nigerian soldiers in city resisted the terrorists, leading to a serious fire fight.

Several people, including the Emir of Bama, have already fled to the state capital Maiduguri to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Eyewitnesses told Sahara Reporters that Boko Haram terrorists arrived the vicinity of Bama on Monday and began firing mortars, RPGs and hurling grenades into the city, to cause fear and panic.

But they met stiff resistance from the soldiers. The battle was still raging as at 12noon on Monday.

Bama is a strategic city with over 500,000 inhabitants. If Boko Haram captures Bama with all the military hardware in the city, then it just a matter of days before they capture Maiduguri.
The state capital is less than 40 miles from Bama.

Sharing a similar view, Samantha Iwowo, described adultery as one of the grounds for divorce.

Iwowo said, “Pastor Chris Oyakhilome must have been discovered compromising his marital bed business. It is what it is. God says judgement will start from His house. ‘Touch not my anointed’ is God’s instruction regarding all His children, not an individual nicking, scheming, threatening monies off people’s purses and telling them that salvation is tied to tithes and that seed sowing is only money donation to the church/pastor’s coffers. One down, more to roll. Christ be praised.”

Something is not right. Some powerful Nigerians are sabotaging efforts of the Federal Government and other concerned citizens to ensure that the over 200 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram are set free.

This shocking revelation was made by the fearless Shehu Sani, who is the President, Civil Rights Congress, in an exclusive chat with Punch. He has been involved in efforts to get government and Boko Haram to discuss the fate of the girls in the past, and knows all that is going on.
He said the the powerful individuals have ensured that the talks to secure the girl’s release derailed.

Shehu Sani’s disclosure came even as the federal government has once again begun fresh talks with the dreaded Boko Haram sect to secure the release of the young girls.


According to Punch, reports have claimed that the girls have been sighted in camps inside Sambisa Forest, in some border towns near Cameroon and in the Central African Republic.

President Olusegun Obasanjo, Shehu Sani, and a United Arab Emirates-based Nigerian freelance journalist, Ahmad Salkida, who had communication channels with Boko Haram, had offered to mediate between the government and the sect.
But some men close to the Presidency always frustrates their efforts. But Obasanjo is set to try again.

There are speculations that recently President Goodluck Jonathan and Obasanjo held a meeting to discuss how to negotiate the release of the girls.

Sani, who is one of the negotiators facilitating the current talks, said:
“What I want to tell you is that something is being done about it but I’m not disposed to making it public. Most times, publicising these issues always lead to sabotage by those who do not want the girls freed. I will not mention the names of these Nigerians.

“However, I can tell you that real and genuine moves are going on, which I am a part of. The claim that the girls have been abandoned is not true. There are genuine efforts by government and some individuals, who are discreetly making efforts toward getting their (pupils’) safe return home.”

Sani noted that the girls could only be freed either forcefully or through dialogue and negotiation.

Director of Catholic Social Communications, Maiduguri Diocese of the Catholic Church, Gideon Obasogie, who made this socking revelation to Punch on Friday, said:

“I am sad, really sad to my bone marrows about this ugly development. The world must know the truth; people were captured and taken to the police training ground for serious training as combatants. It is now one of their strongest bases. The missing policemen have joined the Boko Haram instructors. The guys are multiplying in number, weaponry and geographical expansion.”

When asked how he got the knowledge of happenings in the captured police college, Obasogie revealed that he was briefed by a member of his church who was one of the policemen being held captive at the college by the group, but had managed to escape through the hills into Yola, Adamawa State.

The college is a riot police academy in Liman Kara, on the outskirts of Gwoza, a hilly town in Borno State, North-East Nigeria. It is one of only two riot police training colleges in Nigeria.

Boko Haram had on Wednesday, August 21, 2014 attacked the Police Academy, Gwoza, Borno State, and seized not less than 200 assault rifles from the riot policemen on training.

Investigations revealed the insurgents did not encounter any strong resistance from the police personnel as the riot policemen were directed to keep all their guns at the armoury of the academy before Boko Haram attacked the academy and captured the armoury.

There was serious drama in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos on Thursday night as a man who took another lady to a hotel to enjoy himself, came out from the hotel room only to see his own wife coming out from another room in the same hotel with his best friend.

When he spotted them, the visibly angry husband, identified as Kayode, was said to have shouted:
“My own wife in a hotel with another man!”

At the first instance when Kayode saw his wife, Mrs. Funmilayo, he never envisaged that the man with her was his best friend, Mr Mufutau, but after a closer look, he noticed that the man was Mufutau and he slapped him twice before Mufutau retaliated. And serious fight broke out.

Funny enough, as both men were fighting themselves in public, Kayode’s wife, Funmilayo, pounced on her husband’s girlfriend and tore the lady’s clothes for having the effrontery to date her husband…


The crazy fight came to an end when the Bar Man, Receptionist, and others customers intervened and they blamed both the married man and his wife for not being sincere and trustworthy to themselves.

According to Leadership, the Bar Man told Kayode that he was guilty of the same offence for bringing a lady, which they later discovered was also a married woman, to the hotel. The barman said that what occurred was a nemesis or law of distributional justice.

But before the fight ended, the women were said to have torn their clothes to shreds and left in shame.

There has been rumours that since the estranged couple managed to work together in a movie, there is a possibility that they would reconcile and start living as husband and wife for the sake of their kids.

But Saidi Balogun dropped the bombshell in a chat with Encomium, declaring that he was not ready to reconcile with his ex-wife, Fathia, and as a matter of fact, they will never talk again for life.

The popular actor is angry, he said he and Fathia have not communicated in over 8 years:

“People don’t understand what’s really going on between us. I believe that’s why they are peddling the rumour. There is no logic in it at all.

“I think it’s because they saw us in Mercy Aigbe’s new movie, Life After Marriage, that’s why they imagined we’re back in love. The marketer of the movie only used Fathia and myself to promote the movie. And so far people saw the two of us in the movie, they started peddling the rumour that the movie was meant to reconcile us.

“The funniest thing is that we didn’t act together on the set of the movie. We didn’t even see each other for once. I acted my role separately, she also did hers separately. Our paths didn’t cross at all…

“On the set of Life After Marriage till the production ended. So, I don’t know how people arrived at the conclusion that we have reconciled. After how many years? That’s a big joke.”

Asked if they have started communicating with each other as being bandied, he reacted,

“There is nothing like that, my brother. On what basis will that communication be? To be honest, the last time we spoke was 2006. I have since moved on. I thank God for that. We don’t have any reason to talk to each other. It can’t happen at all.”

Fashola and Tambuwal

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Reps Committee on Finance, Yomi Ogunnusi, has said if the APC can present strong candidates for the Presidency in 2015, it will defeat President Goodluck Jonathan who is most likely set to seek re-election.

Hon. Ogunnusi, who represents Ifako/Ijaye Constituency, said the APC would do well at the poll next year if it presented the Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal as its presidential candidate and the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, as his running mate.

In fact, Tambuwal and Fashola is a winning ticket for millions of Nigerians.

He said, “This is my personal opinion. If we have Tambuwal as President and Fashola as Vice-President, Jonathan will be out immediately it is announced. I think that is what the youth want. If you want a change in this country, let them put Tambuwal and Fashola. Nigeria will change and in fact, the stock exchange will increase that same day it is announced. It will give people a relief.

“Because these are humane people, people who have a human heart. For the first time in Nigeria, a young man led the House of Representatives for four years without inhibition or conflict. And this young man knows the names of all the lawmakers up to their constituencies. And Fashola, all over the world has been rated as a performer and you can see the way he works.


Tambuwal, who is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party is rumoured to be finalising plans to defect to the APC so as to be able to actualise his dream of becoming president in 2015.

The lawmaker said this during an interview with Punch on Thursday. Ogunnusi described Gov Fashola as a hardworking governor who was generally loved for his accomplishments and also described Tambuwal as a “humble leader.”

He added, “You can even see in him that he has dedicated most of his life to the survival of the state. If he (Fashola) agrees, Nigeria would benefit. Both of them are saleable products and they are patriotic. For former Governor Bola Tinubu, let him be the leader of the Yoruba like Obafemi Awolowo; and let Muhammadu Buhari be the northern leader.
