RomanceRe: Is It Advisable To Marry At 22-25 As A Man? by nanotee: 11:07pm On Oct 29, 2012
I need definitions of some terms used here; Marriage and Maturity. The manner I see the term 'Maturity' used on marriage related threads makes me feel it's like some very high moral standard that can just not be attained. Marriage in my own words has to do with a close companionship, then responsibilities. Lets stop scaring guys away from marriage.
CareerRe: Doing A Phd Is Often A Waste Of Time, Says The Economist by nanotee: 10:14pm On Oct 06, 2012
I feel obliged to contribute to this discuss. As some people here have rightly noted, a PhD is an opportunity to do independent research in a specific aspect of a subject area. Doing a PhD is very challenging. I read in an article that PhD students and post doctorates are among the group of workers who put in the highest number of work hours in the United States, as much as eighty hours every week. Now, how profitable is getting a PhD. In answering this, I would focus on science and technology PhDs which I have some knowledge about. Your prospects at the completion of your PhD depends on your location and on what subject area you did your PhD in. For instance, doing a PhD in Atomic Physics in Nigeria might not offer you more than a lecturing job while studying the same course abroad could offer you an opportunity to do top level research in an huge, well-funded research facility or specialized company. Unfortunately, Nigeria has largely a consumer(buying and selling)economy. So very few industries need PhDs in Nigeria.
In any case, I don't think having a PhD guarantees a higher salary or better employment benefit than not having one. But what is wrong with pursuing your passion. Must we do things just for material benefits or recognition. Should smart guys from secondary schools all rush to accounting and oil and gas related courses because been a Medical Doctor does not pay much financially? Doing a PhD is never a waste of time.
CareerWay Forward From The Teeming Rate Of Unemployment by nanotee(op): 3:23pm On Apr 14, 2012
Hello folks,
I am at the venue for KPMG aptitude test and was amazed to see that over 2 thousand people were shortlisted to write the test. I heard there had been at least 2 other batches with a similar attendance this year alone. What's most disturbing is that all those invited needed to be below 26 years of age and also should have graduated with at least a 2nd class upper. I remember my Dad used to tell me that I just needed to have a 2:1 to get a job. That's obviously not the case any longer. As the number of 2:1 or otherwise unemployed roaming the streets keep increasing at an alarming rate. While I have seen posts on how we can be more competitive in order to land one of the few jobs left, I have not seen much that addresses how we could help ourselves to generate employment. It's not enough for me to get a job alone. If all my siblings and friends are jobless, I would probably be needing to spend on them and thereby remain poor.
So, Fellow NL's I would need your suggestions and contributions on how to generate employment...
Christianity EtcRe: Atheist State Your Reasons For Not Believing In God/Religion by nanotee: 8:45pm On Mar 29, 2012
My submission still remains that the same way I cannot prove God absolutely, It cannot be proven conclusively that God doesn't exist. About some new super-physics coming to explain witch-craft, miracles and divinations, I seriously doubt if science as we know it today would in the near future put up a set of equations to explain these phenomena. Let me just say there's a one in a billion chance of this happening. Science is yet to discover the cure for many ailments, not propounded a well-defined theory for the origins of the universe and human-kind. It's always been conjectures. I find it very absurd to belief that science can explain how a person dies a few seconds after some incantations are made on his picture. Would that be some sort of yet to be discovered force?

Seems the atheist are leading in dis debate. So does God exist? My answer is that no one knows for certain. One reason I think people associate with religion is the explanation of so many mysteries in their world. In yoruba land for instance, there are cases of witch crafts, river goddesses, re-incarnation, etc which are not explainable without reference to the super-natural. I don't think science would one day give an explanation to these super-natural mysteries. This is an aspect that so many atheists tend to over-look. Another issue raised is that the concept of God doesn't make so much sense, lacks appeal to the intellect. But because we cannot comprehend this God or understand in details why he seems powerless over many ills that plague man-kind is not enough to conclude on his non-existence. Not knowing the cure for AIDS doesn't mean it's in-existent.
Finally, if there's a God then which? I think every person should decide. While I have not seen God physically, my experiences with him, which has gone beyond mere chance or hear-say has sealed my choice of faith. I choose to belief. Hoping that one day I would get more answers to the questions I have.

taste and see that the Lord is good.
