The man that was alleged to have slapped the woman is known as Bebex, after the name of his company. He is known for modifying Mercedes Benz cars at Ladipo Spare Parts Market and for spending money lavishly. Some of his friends attacked people who shared the story on Twitter and were trying to stop people from sharing the story.

Bebex also released a video in which he claimed that the woman sent thugs to vandalise his shop (but what we can actually see in the video is that some parts have been placed on the floor, while all the vehicles in the video have not been vandalised).

Many more videos have surfaced which seem to show policemen intimidating the woman in order to make her recant her story. People in the station can be heard telling the woman that instead of her to apologise to Bebex, she is saying that she will fight the case. They tell her that many people have come there to act stubborn, but when they get to court they are forced to mellow down. This is one of such videos.

ONGOING: Due to multifarious interests in this matter and the need to ensure justice, @LagosPoliceNG CP Idowu Owohunwa is personally interviewing all parties in this case. @Lagosdsva, community members, landlord association, councilor representing the area Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Omolara and family, Bebex and his employees, and lawyers representing both sides are in attendance.

It is elating and morale-boosting that we now have a willing complainant and as a result, a tenable case to present in court.

CP Idowu Owohunwa, having carefully listened to all parties, has established that there are indeed cases to answer and has therefore directed that the matter be charged to court immediately.

The CP also identified professional misconduct on the part of some of the police officers involved in the case. For this, the Command Provost has been directed to immediately commence disciplinary action against the officers concerned.

And finally, the DPO Mushin, in whose Divison all the officers aforementioned are serving, has been relieved of his posting with immediate effect.

Harry Belafonte invited her to the US to perform and she went there, but the Apartheid Government of South Africa revoked her passport. Many African countries offered her citizenship and Belafonte helped her in the US. She performed on the Ed Sullivan Show and she also performed before President Kennedy. She was ill when she performed in front of President Kennedy, so she went back to her hotel immediately afterwards, but the President wanted to meet her, so Harry Belafonte sent a car to go and bring her back.

This love song was already popular in Tanzania, but it was not known elsewhere. Mama Africa made it popular worldwide.

The version in the second video (with Harry Belafonte) made her the first African to win a Grammy Award (at the 8th Grammy Awards in 1965). She also won the Best World Album award at the 2000 Grammys and she was nominated in 1960, 1963 and 1964.

I remember that she was one of two foreigners to win an award at the Nigerian Music Awards, but I can't remember who the second person was. She won a Legend/Lifetime Achievement Award at the 1990 Nigerian Music Awards at the National Theatre in Lagos.

This is one of the songs that I thoroughly enjoy playing. In the 1970s and '80s you would have been forgiven for thinking that it was originally done by the Pacelli School for the Blind because their band performed it at virtually all the events that they attended.
