Esales: Why didn't the member countries send it to the South Sudan that's at their backyard? Or am I missing something here?
You can fly 300 troops with one place but can't fly 300 trucks with one plane so why send trucks backwards ?
And which route is the Nigerian military going to use to get to South Sudan that can't be accessible from Equitorial Guinea faster? Now I know that you are not serious. Nigeria is sending its troops and equipment to South Sudan, but you want them to send it via Equitorial Guinea. Wonderful! I am not taking you serious any longer and I won't read or respond to your posts. Let me know when you find your phantom UN mission in Nigeria. Some people are very funny. |

Esales: Are you playing with me News from February 2022 ? What has that got to do with the vessel that arrived Nigeria in March 2023 ? >
Are you trying to spread propaganda ? I am not playing with you. I am trying to take you seriously, but I'm beginning to doubt that you are serious. Ethiopians commanded and made up the bulk of troops in a UN mission in South Sudan. The Ethiopians and South Sudanese had an issue. Nigeria is taking over the mission. A Nigerian general was appointed to head it in 2022. Nigerian troops were deployed in March 2023 and their equipment is going there with it, yet you are telling me nonsense? OK, let's settle this 1) What were the UN vehicles in Nigeria for? 2) Are you trying to tell me that the UN is deploying a force in Nigeria with no announcement? Where is the announcement? 3) Who are the contributing countries? 4) Where is the budget? Your response to this will let me know if you are serious. |

Esales: But they were imported from Equitorial Guinea via Mt HR Pearl.... They were offloaded from the vessel painted in UN Peace keeping colours right from the vessel... And they look new, that's by the way.
If Nigeria is donating to the UN for the South Sudan mission, Nigeria should be sending vessels to DRC to easily access South Sudan by road because the land route to South Sudan is f*cked up all the way to Libya.
I attached a map for clearer understanding of my point That's the equipment for the Nigerian troops that are taking part in this mission (members countries provide their own equipment for their troops). Nigeria Returns To UN Peacekeeping Operations

The Nigerian Base Defence Company, deployed in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), has rejoined the Multinational Peacekeeping Force after years of absence.
Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNISFA, Maj.-Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr, told reporters in Abuja yesterday that the induction of the Nigerian peacekeepers completed UNISFA’s eight-contingent member troops contributing countries.
He said the Force had achieved its mandate by providing protection to civilians and had engaged the two host governments and communities in spite of initial challenges during the parade held to commemorate the one year anniversary.
He said the Force had also encouraged dialogue, supported humanitarian agencies to assist the people and provided support to the two-country teams of Juba and Khartoum to implement the Programmatic Funding Activities.
He appreciated the cooperation and collaboration of the local administration and the traditional institutions in forging peaceful dialogue that would lead to the determination of the final status of Abyei.
He commended the support of the UN for high level visits, budgetary allocations and logistics support.
He also commended the military, police and civilian components of the mission for working in synergy with the vision.
He said the mission would continue to operate under UN core values of integrity, impartiality, professionalism and respect for gender and diversity. https://dailytrust.com/nigeria-returns-to-un-peacekeeping-operations/

I attached a map for clearer understanding of my point From Sudan Times. Nigerian military to lead UNISFA force for the first time
February 2, 2022 (JUBA) – UN Secretary-General appointed a Nigerian general to lead the United Nations Interim Force for Abyei (UNISFA), for the first time since its establishment in 2011.
The international mission was established on June 27, 2011, in response to the urgent situation in the disputed border area less than two weeks ahead of the independence of South Sudan after the eruption of violence between the two sides.
“United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres (Tuesday) announced the appointment of Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr of Nigeria as Force Commander for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA),” reads a statement by the UN spokesperson.
Sawyerr succeeds Maj Gen Kefyalew Amde Tessema of Ethiopia.
The mission until now is formed only headed and composed Ethiopian military forces as it was requested by the Sudanese government and in recognition of the role played by the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
However, following the deterioration of bilateral relations between Khartoum and Addis Ababa Khartoum requested the withdrawal of the Ethiopian force from Abyei that remains under Sudan’s sovereignty.
On January 19, 2022, the head of the Un peacekeeping department Jean Pierre Lacroix spoke with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council to inform him of the troops’ replacement process will start in February and will continue until next March.
Previously, Sawyerr served as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School in Bauchi State in North-East Nigeria (2020-2021).
He held the position of Brigade Commander twice in North-East Nigeria and was Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Battalion with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (2009-2010).
He also served as the Director of Plans at the Nigerian Army Headquarters (2019-2020) and Deputy Director of Doctrine and Combat Development (2017-2018). https://sudantribune.com/article254801/Nigerian Major General Olufemi Sawyerr

Esales: There's no way to get to South Sudan either from Nigeria except through the same Chad and Congo. DRC is the best route from Equitorial Guinea.
The trucks were sighted at Warri, Edo and Ebonyi, which only makes sense if they're going to Cameroon which is where they passed on their way here
See the map below.... The lie doesn't add up. If you have a better clarification, I'm willing to hear it naptu2: The United Nations does not have troops or military equipment
The United Nations does not have troops or military equipment. Member nations contribute troops and military equipment for peace keeping missions. There are many different ways in which member states can contribute to peacekeeping missions.
1) Troops and military equipment:
A country like Nigeria can contribute troops and military equipment like trucks, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, etc. to United Nations peacekeeping missions. The biggest contributors in this category are developing countries from Asia (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, etc), Africa (Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, etc) and South America (Brazil, etc).
Countries contribute troops to these mission in order for the troops to gain experience, in order to boost their international standing and also for humanitarian reasons.
2) Money
A member state could contribute money to UN missions. The biggest contributors in this category are developed countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, etc.
The United Nations pays allowances to troops on peacekeeping missions. For example, a Nigerian soldier on peacekeeping mission will receive his salary from the Nigerian Government and he will also receive an allowance (in dollars) from the United Nations.
The countries that contribute troops and equipment also receive funds for other reasons, for example, in this case, the United Nations might bear the cost of painting those vehicles in UN colours.
3) Logistics
I'll explain this with an example. The Nigerian Air Force has C130 aircraft with which it flies troops, vehicles and other equipment to where they are needed. However, the United States (from which we got our C130s) imposed sanctions on Nigeria after the June 12, 1993 elections were annulled. We couldn't get spare parts for the C130 or have them repaired. Many C130s were grounded in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Nigeria wanted to provide troops and vehicles for a UN mission in the early 2000s, but we didn't have enough C130s to fly them there. The United States Air Force contributed to the UN mission by using its C130s and C5 Galaxy to fly Nigerian troops and equipment to the country where the mission took place.
Those vehicles in Edo State are Nigerian Army vehicles. That exact same type of Toyota Land Cruiser (Buffalo) is being used in Borno and other states where there are insurgencies. |

It's like the Pinzgauer below. It's a Nigerian Army Pinzgauer, but it has the Ecowas logo on it because it was being used for an Ecomog mission.
It's also like Nigerian Army troops that wear blue helmets and UN logos when they are on UN missions.

Fighter2029: ...what manner of explanation is this, they said UN is using warri port to move those things to south Sudan, but you are talking about Chad and Central Africa, what happened to moving them through Kenya,Ugadan which are neighbouring countries to South Sudan . naptu2: By the way, those are not United Nations owned vehicles. Lithiumite: The question is where are they coming from, they are heading south wards from the north......that's why I find it a bit strange, were they been stored in Nigeria before now and why being stored in the north as against the south which is closer to the port which must have cost huge amounts for logistics. naptu2: By the way, those are not United Nations owned vehicles. They belong to the Nigerian Army. They are painted in UN colours because they are going to be used for a United Nations mission.

naptu2: Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
People have never seen UN peacekeeping items in Nigeria and they think it's a big deal.
For your information, Nigeria regularly contributed troops and equipment to United Nations peacekeeping missions between 1960 and 2014. Nigerian Army vehicles are usually painted in peacekeeping colours when they are used for such operations and they often retain the colours many months after they have returned. I have seen this many times over several decades.
Therefore, there is no big deal about vehicles painted in UN peacekeeping colours in Nigeria. That's assuming that those pictures were actually taken in Nigeria.

Defence Headquarters allays fears over UN fighting vehicle
No cause for alarm over presence of United Nations, UN fighting vehicles, equipment in Nigeria, the Defence Headquarters has assured Nigerians.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau was reacting to some video clips circulating in the social media about the presence of some United Nations Peacekeeping fighting vehicles and equipment sighted recently in Benin, Edo state.
It said the fighting vehicles and equipment are being moved through the Warri port to the mission area in Southern Sudan to marry up with UN troops who were inducted into the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, UNISFA mission, Southern Sudan last month.
It explained that presently, Nigeria is contributing troops to various United Nations Peace keeping operations, including UNISFA, South Sudan which is commanded by Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr; a Nigerian.
The statement assured Nigerians that ”the nation is not under any threat that will warrant the deployment of United Nations troops in our soil”.
