Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola worked as a journalist in the UK (where he schooled) and in Nigeria. He worked for such prestigious newspapers as The Times and The Guardian in the UK.
Sir Michael also worked as the spokesman of Mobil Oil in Nigeria and he set up a large printing and publishing company called Impact Press. It was based in Surulere, Lagos.
He was knighted with the Order of St Sylvester by Pope Paul VI in 1974.
He got involved in politics during the Third Republic and contested the 1991 Lagos State governorship election on the platform of the National Republican Congress (NRC).
Although Lagos was a majority SDP state, protest votes from sections of the SDP led to victory for Sir Otedola.
The governor was a member of the NRC, but the SDP had an overwhelming majority in the House of Assembly and it controlled the local governments. Sir Michael was able to manage the situation very well.
He served as governor from January 1992 till November 1993 when Abacha struck.
Sir Michael returned to his publishing business after leaving office. He died in 2014.

Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu was the father of Abdulsamad Isyaku Rabiu and Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu. He was an Islamic scholar and businessman.
He established his company, Isyaku Rabiu And Sons, in 1952. It acted as an agent of UAC and traded in sewing machines, religious books, and bicycles.
In the 1970s the company began making suitcases and various types of bags. He set up a textile mill and also sold Daihatsu vehicles.
They also went into the food business and were also involved in real estate.
Isyaku Rabiu was one of the major financiers of President Shehu Shagari's NPN and some people believe that he received contracts and other business from the government as a result of this.
His activities took a hit in 1984 when he was jailed by the Buhari Government for hoarding commodities.
He was among a group of people that I call the Donation Circuit. They donated huge sums of money to charities across the country during the Babangida era. He was one of the wealthiest Nigerians in the 1970s and 1980s.
Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu died in London in 2018.

Another aspirant talking about the party support fee (which is different from the expression of interest and nomination fee).
Yet when I wrote about it someone said that it was "marketplace gossip". |
