payloader: In the United States, you hardly see a Democrat decamping to Republican. It's only in Nigeria I see political prostitution at it's nasty zenith. Imagine this betrayer calling it political alignment. Using semantics will not diminish the meaning of political prostitution.
naptu2: Why do people keep acting as if it's only in Nigeria that politicians change parties?
Ronald Reagan started out as a Democrat. It was his wife that convinced him to become a Republican and he became one of the greatest Republican presidents ever.
The godfather of Chicago, Richard Daley, won his first election on the platform of the Republican Party. He wasn't republican, but that was the only platform that he could contest under. He switched back to the Democratic Party shortly afterwards and became one of the most powerful democratic politicians. He served as mayor of Chicago for 21 years on the platform of the Democratic Party, he had a big say on who won elections in both the Democratic Party and Chicago in general and his children served in major positions in democratic administrations like the Carter, Clinton and Obama presidencies. One of his children also served as mayor of Chicago on the Democratic Party platform.
The great William Ewart Gladstone (one of the greatest British prime ministers) changed parties three times!
Of course we saw that many British MPs changed parties ahead of the last British general elections (some of the people that left the Conservative Party are still trying to go back to it).
naptu2: As I said, Nigeria is not the only country in which politicians defect. It happens everywhere and some of the most famous politicians have crossed the carpet (think about it, the term "crossing the carpet" did not originate in Nigeria).
I have previously posted a long list of foreign politicians that have changed parties, but let me remind you of 2.
Richard Daley always sympathised with the Democratic Party, but he registered as a Republican when he was in university, because the Republican Party was awarding scholarships. He was in the Republican Party for years, but he eventually switched to the Democratic Party. Richard Daley eventually became the Mayor of Chicago. He was the godfather of Chicago and the people that he supported always won elections in the city. One of his children eventually became Mayor of Chicago and his children served in the Clinton and Obama Admimistrations.
President Ronald Reagan was initially a Democrat. It was his wife, Nancy, that convinced him to become a Republican. He became one of the most famous and popular Republican presidents ever.

Political realignment is not betrayal; it is the courage to follow vision when old paths can no longer carry the dream.

Award-winning R&B and soul singer D’Angelo has died aged 51 after a cancer diagnosis, his family has said.
In a statement, they wrote that the star, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, left behind a "legacy of extraordinarily moving music" and asked fans to celebrate “the gift of song that he has left for the world”.
The influential singer was known for pioneering neo-soul, a genre blending R&B with other types of music, including hip-hop and jazz.
His three albums won D'Angelo four Grammy Awards. The music video for his hit song Untitled (How Does It Feel) became notorious for its smouldering, single-shot performance, where D'Angelo appeared to be performing naked.
"The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life," his family said in a statement obtained by CBS News, the BBC’s US media partner.
Tributes have flooded in, with rappers Doja Cat and Missy Elliot, as well as singers Jill Scott and Jennifer Hudson paying their respects.
"A true voice of soul and inspiration to many brilliant artists of our generation and generations to come," Doja Cat wrote on X.
Jennifer Hudson said "we lost a true original today".
" D'Angelo, your voice will live on forever. Rest well, King!!!"
Tyler the Creator said his "musical DNA" was shaped by D'Angelo - "We are so lucky to have been alive to enjoy his art," he wrote.
D’Angelo began his career as a songwriter, and worked alongside big names in music like Lauryn Hill and The Roots.
He rose to fame in the 1990s with his debut album Brown Sugar. His song, Lady, from that album reached the number 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1996.
That song earned him multiple Grammy nominations and secured his spot on the music scene.
The son of a Pentecostal minister, D'Angelo was born in Richmond, Virginia, and taught himself to play piano when he was just three years old.
Throughout his adolescence, he performed locally in groups including Three of a Kind, Michael Archer and Precise, and Intelligent, Deadly but Unique (I.D.U.).
When he was 18, he won the amateur talent competition at Harlem's Apollo Theater for three consecutive weeks; and was quickly signed to a publishing deal with EMI.
He established himself as a commercial force with his 1995 debut album, also called Brown Sugar, and won two Grammys for the 2000 follow-up, Voodoo.
However, he subsequently struggled with alcoholism and nearly died in a car crash in 2005.
He returned to music in 2014 with Black Messiah - an album in the works for years - which he finished after watching the national unrest prompted by protests over the failure to convict police officers in the deaths of the unarmed black men Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
It went on to win the Grammy for best R&B album in February 2016.
Among those paying tribute was hip-hop legend DJ Premier, who produced D'Angelo's song Devil's Pie.
"Such a sad loss," he wrote on social media. "We have so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep Peacefully D' Love You KING."
The Voodoo album which was released in 2000 topped the US charts and in its most recent list of the greatest albums of all time, Rolling Stone magazine placed it at 28 – one place above The Beatles' White Album.
D'Angelo had been working in the studio on what would have been his fourth album with Raphael Saadiq.

Father of the late Bilyaminu Bello, Alhaji Ahmed Bello Isa, has publicly accepted the clemency granted to his daughter-in-law, Maryam Sanda, by President Bola Tinubu, saying he has long forgiven her for the death of his son.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the elderly Bello said he welcomed the presidential pardon as “the will of God,” describing the release of Sanda as an act of mercy that would allow her to care for her two children.
“I am happy that the father of the nation has released Maryam so that she can look after her children.
“We as Muslims accept whatever comes from Almighty Allah. I have forgiven her and bear no grudges against the Federal Government or her family. Vengeance cannot bring back my son, but forgiveness can bring peace,” he said.
Maryam Sanda, the daughter of a former Aso Savings Executive, was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging in January 2020 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, a nephew of former Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bello Haliru Mohammed.
The killing, which occurred in November 2017 during a domestic dispute in Abuja, sparked nationwide outrage and drew attention to issues of domestic violence and justice.
Bello disclosed that his appeal for mercy dated back to 2019, even before the court handed down the death sentence.
He said he had written multiple letters to authorities, including the then Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, seeking leniency for his daughter-in-law.
Earlier on Monday, a statement signed by Dr. Bello Mohammed on behalf of some relatives criticised the pardon, describing it as “the worst possible injustice any family could be made to go through.”
But reacting, Bello dismissed the statement, saying it did not represent his views.
“That is their personal opinion. I am the father of the deceased, and I have chosen forgiveness. We may not all see things the same way, but I believe this is the right path, for peace, for the children, and for Allah’s mercy,” he said.

Yeah they gave the car dealers a week or two notice to remove their cars (and they even assisted them to remove the vehicles). The association released a statement that they were not against the demolition and the commissioner stated that they were going to consider the livelihood of the car dealers, but that would be after they've preserved the drainages, wetlands and protected the right of way of the high tension cables and Green Line rail project.
