Hopefully all the lunatics that are living comfortably abroad and inciting Nigerians to hate and kill each other will be jailed one after the other.

Trains intended for unbuilt Milwaukee-Madison high-speed rail line going to Nigeria.

Governor of Nigeria's Lagos State visits Milwaukee to complete purchase from train manufacturer Talgo

Two trains originally intended for a high-speed rail line to connect Madison and Milwaukee are headed for Nigeria. The governor of that country's Lagos State was in Milwaukee on Tuesday to purchase the unused trains.

The trains are set to become part of West Africa's first operational metro system, according to a press release.

At a public event at the Milwaukee facilities of Spanish train manufacturer Talgo, acting Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson welcomed Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

"It's a little bittersweet," Johnson said after the event. "I'm sending my congratulations to the governor in Lagos State in Nigeria, but also a little disappointed that we missed out on the opportunity to have those trainsets operating here in Milwaukee and in Wisconsin."

It's the latest turn in a decade-long saga revolving around high-speed rail, which Wisconsin Public Radio previously covered in the 2019 podcast series "Derailed."

Milwaukee Alder Robert Bauman was not at the event, but said the ending is much like the entire storyline.

"It's kind of an absurd ending to an absurd tale," Bauman said.

In 2009, Wisconsin's then-Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, announced a deal with Talgo for two new trains to be built in the state and used for a high-speed rail line between Milwaukee and Madison. In the same year, Wisconsin was awarded $810 million for the project in a federal stimulus bill.

Frank Busalacchi was Wisconsin's Secretary of Transportation at the time.

"I certainly didn't expect what happened to happen," said Busalacchi. "It was unfortunate, but I think now, as you look and see where the world is going, not just our country, where the world is going, it was the right thing to do."

The plans died off after Republican Scott Walker became governor. But by 2012, Talgo had built the trains, and sent an invoice to the state for them. Later that year, Talgo terminated the contract and sued the state, kicking off a court dispute that lasted almost three years.

Ultimately, under the terms of a settlement between Wisconsin and Talgo, the state paid the company a total of $50 million for the trains, which remained under the company's ownership.

"The partisanship got so deep that literally, Wisconsin is making decisions that amount to shooting yourself in both feet," Bauman said. "Who buys a set of train cars, refuses to complete the contract, ends up getting sued, settles, pays out another $50-some million in damages, and then you don't even get the cars?"

The trains sat unused in an Amtrak facility in Indiana for years, a lasting reminder of the dispute. They eventually returned to Talgo's plant in Milwaukee in 2019.

"I'm glad that they were able now to sell them to somebody, that somebody is going to use them," Busalacchi said. "The fact that after many years, Talgo's found a buyer for the trains, I mean, kudos to them."

Around when the trains came back to Milwaukee, Talgo spokespeople floated the possibility of the trains finding a use on Amtrak's Cascades line in the Pacific Northwest, but last year Amtrak announced Siemens Mobility would produce new trains for the line instead.

"It is what it is," Bauman said. "They're moving on to Nigeria. Good for the Nigerians."

The first phase of the Nigerian metro system the Talgo trains are set to become part of is expected to begin operation later this year, serving up to half a million passengers in the Lagos area daily.

Johnson said conversations about high-speed rail in Wisconsin have not gone away.

"I hope that at some point, we're still able to realize that vision for a more connected community," said Johnson.

leodregat:
The trains are used trains Sanwolu purchased in Canada and the news was shared on nairaland when he went for the purchase.

The intercity rail system was first initiated by Governor Bola Tinubu in 2003 under "Lagos Urban Transportation Project". Besides the BRT network, the rail network never took off as it was postponed multiple times by successive governors until Sanwolu.
Fake news.

The trains are not used. A city ordered for the trains, but there was an election before they finished building the trains and the new government decided that it didn't want the trains. The Lagos State Government then bought it from the manufacturer. I created the thread back then.

The Red Line was started and completed by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Nigerian govt reveals identity of woman threatening mass killing of fellow Nigerians in Canada

The woman has reportedly deleted her TikTok account.

Abike Dabiri, the chairperson of a federal agency, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has disclosed the identity of a Canada-based woman who allegedly threatened to kill fellow Nigerians living in the North American country.

In a video clip circulating on X (formerly Twitter), a woman’s voice is heard making anti-Yoruba comments in what appears to be a virtual meeting on TikTok. The woman spoke mainly in Pidgin English.

“Record me very well; it’s time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin. Put poison for all una food for work. Put poison for una water, make una dey kpai one by one,” the woman, later identified by Mrs Dabiri as Amaka Patience Sunnberger, said in the virtual meeting.

The woman vowed that she would take poisonous substances to her workplace and poison any Yoruba or Benin person she came across.

She claimed that her comment was in response to the “hate” against the Igbo. Some other voices could be heard, interjecting and prodding her.

It is, however, unclear how many people attended the virtual meeting with her.

“I want make Ndi Igbo get that heart of wickedness. Una too dey quiet,” the woman said, addressing other participants. “Enough is enough! If you have any means of kpaing them, kpai them commot for road.”

The woman said she was a resident of Ontario, Canada, and dared anyone to report her to the Canadian authorities.

On Wednesday, Mrs Dabiri reacted on X to the woman’s comment and uploaded the woman’s photo to the microblogging platform.

“This is the picture of the lady behind the voice. Amaka Patience Sunnberger,” the Nigerian government official said.

“She has deleted her TikTok account, and a group of Nigerians in Canada are reporting her officially to the relevant authorities in Canada.”

With many Nigerians desperate to escape poverty and hardship back home, the population of Nigerians in Canada has continued to increase.

Over 71,000 Nigerians reportedly obtained Canadian citizenship in the past 19 years.

The X user who posted the “very disturbing” video on the microblogging platform said he wanted to alert other Nigerians living in Canada.

“Be careful out there, folks,” he said.

Ohanaeze condemns video threatening Yoruba, Benin people with poison

[i]
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned a viral video clip in which a Canada-based woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, made threatening comments against Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin descent.

The group has called on security agencies to trace the perpetrators of this “macabre dance” and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

In the video, the woman, speaking in Pidgin English, said, “Record me very well; it’s time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin. Put poison in all your food at work. Put poison in your water, so that you all die one by one.”

Reacting to the video, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, stated that while it might have ignored the video as the work of a “deranged psychopath” or one of the many fictitious narratives circulated online, concerns raised by others necessitated a response.

“It becomes imperative for Ohanaeze to respond, especially since Mr Jare Ajayi, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, forwarded the clip and requested prompt action.

“Firstly, there is no sufficient evidence that the lady in question is Igbo. Her behaviour does not reflect the Igbo traits of thoughtfulness, discretion, self-censure and equanimity. No Igbo person would contemplate throwing stones in a crowded market for fear of who might be affected.

“In other words, the Igbo travel more extensively than any other African ethnic group. They create homes away from home wherever they are, integrate with the local community, and contribute to the development of every place they find themselves,” the statement noted.

The organisation reminded the younger generation that the Igbo, Edo, and Yoruba share much in common, including cultural affinity, cosmology, morphology, and hospitality.

“Ohanaeze seizes this opportunity to enlighten the younger generations that the Igbo, Edo, and Yoruba share many similarities. We share cultural affinity, cosmology, morphology, and hospitality. The longstanding inter-marriages between the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo have produced well-accomplished great-grandchildren,” the group added.

Ohanaeze assured Afenifere, the Yoruba, and Edo brothers that “the threat from this depraved mind should be dismissed as idiotic, meaningless, and vacuous. We add that, throughout history, proposals by the maladjusted are always dead on arrival.

I hope the @OntarioPD, @CanadaImmigra20 and @Canada will track this self-confessed criminal , arrest her and send her back to Nigeria in cuffs so that she can be kept in Kirikiri before she goes on the killing spree she’s just promised to embark on.

I suspect she’s working in the healthcare system with the @ONgov and her name is Amaka Patience Sunnberger (source @abikedabiri)

I hope the @NigeriaGov will also act immediately to collaborate with the @Canada @ONgov and @OntarioPD
to ensure she’s caught and locked away before anyone is harmed. They have an excuse to do something for once.

If she’s indeed within the @ONgov healthcare system, her previous works should be duly investigated/audited and any incident of death or accident under her watch should revisited and properly checked. If she hasn’t killed before, she won’t come online to promise to resume the heinous act when she gets back to work the next day.

Tribal or racially motivated homicide should have no place in @Canada
