Imagine someone asking me whether Sowore is involved with the Take It Back Movement, when it was his campaign slogan in 2019, when he had always spoken for them and when it is plastered all over his social media handles.
Someone was even saying that she doesn't know whether Take It Back is involved in this protest, when Sowore was the first person to announce that there would be a protest (before others got involved) and when he has been posting his list of demands, which have even been posted on Nairaland's home page.
I no longer have the time or patience to entertain trolls.
This is a thread from 2018.
sowore2019: Today, Presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore and the Take It Back Movement announced its political platform — African Action Congress (AAC). This followed INEC’s release of newly registered political parties.
Dr Malcolm Fabiyi, Director General, TakeItBack Movement/Sowore 2019 Campaign announced that on August 15th, the official unveiling of the party, the AAC, will hold at the Party Headquarters in ABUJA.
“We will also be announcing the members of our Coalition of Authentic Progressive Parties & Organizations (CAPPO) on that date. With our own dedicated party platform, we are now able to match up a pace setting movement with a transformative political platform”.
Omoyele Sowore who had earlier promised to send President Buhari back to his home town also posted this unveiled logo and party name on his Facebook page.
“We call on progressives and youth everywhere to embrace the AAC. Our party is the authentic platform for political transformation in Nigeria”
The party’s adopted slogan was also communicated to be – Take it Back – Action!!!
naptu2: Every administration seems to have at least one of this kind of person.
The claim that Peter Obi is behind the protest is false.
Yes, Obidients might be planning to capitalise on the protest, but they are not at the core of the planned protest.
This protest is being organised by Omoyele Sowore.
He is planning it to mark the 5th anniversary of his previous protest. In 2019 Sowore called for a Revolution and began the "Revolution Now" movement. That's why the Buhari Administration arrested him, because it said that calling for a revolution is treasonous.
Omoyele Sowore planned to begin the protest from the National Stadium. I believe that he had previously planned to use other venues, but the owners turned him down when they discovered what he wanted to use it for. The National Stadium, Surulere initially agreeed to host the event, but they also cancelled it when they discovered what he wanted to do.
Eventually Sowore decided to hold it under the bridge outside the National Stadium. However, the police broke up the protest, fired teargas and arrested some people (some groups had already pulled out of the protest before the D-day).
The Take It Back Movement is one of Omoyele Sowore's movements. He is organising this protest to mark the 5th anniversary of his Revolution Now protest.

This is why trolls should only be used for entertainment and never taken seriously. Some people saw the team list on the first page and yet they are posting that there's no northerner in the team.
Nigeria stun the Opals with a first Olympic win in 20 years
There were celebrations for Nigeria as they ended their two-decade wait to experience that Olympic winning feeling again.
LILLE (France) - Nigeria pulled off a famous shock win against Australia as they took down the Opals 75-62 in their opening game of the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024.
It was a sensational performance by the African side as they capitalized on Australian turnovers to take victory in front of another huge crowd in Lille.
Turning point
Nigeria posted a spectacular 11-0 run to finish to the first half and that gave them a 13-point cushion heading to the locker rooms.
That proved enough for them to get over the line and when the Opals made did make it a one shot game in the last period with four minutes remaining, Amy Okonkwo settled Nigerian nerves with a huge triple to get them rolling again.
Game hero
This won't be remembered for any heroics other than those performed by the entire Nigerian team. However, there is no doubt that Ezinne Kalu was the class act that carried them to this memorable success. The playmaker has not represented her country since Tokyo 2020 and was on fire with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals
Stats don't lie
Australia spilled the ball a staggering 26 times in the game and that handed Nigeria a huge 26 points from turnovers. It was a difference-maker and especially in the first half when they almost handed their opponents a point per minute from that source.
Bottom Line
Nigeria were outstanding considering they had a slow start. Their defense was particularly impressive and with this win, they could prove to be the fly in the ointment of predictions about Group B. They flew the flag for African basketball in a big way.
Australia looked disjointed and their guards didn't cope with the ball pressure as they quite literally threw away any chance of a victory.
Quick Notes
- This is Nigeria’s only second win in the Women’s Olympic Basketball tournament, after their success 68-64 against South Korea in 2004; it is however their first win in nine games in the preliminary round. They conceded only 62 points today, fewer than in any of their previous games in the competition.
- Australia have lost their opening game of a Women’s Olympic Basketball tournament for the second edition in a row, after winning their previous six such games; this is their first defeat against a team from Africa in 12 games in major competitions (World Cup + Olympics).
- Nigeria made nine 3-pointers today, more than in any of their previous nine games at the Olympics; they also made 15 steals, a joint-high for them in the competition (also 15 v Greece in 2004).
- Ezinne Kalu (19pts, 15 reb, 15ast) became the first Nigerian player to register a 15/5/5 game in the Women’s Olympic Basketball tournament; she made four 3-pointers today, the most for a player with Nigeria in the competition.
- Steph Talbot (12reb, 10ast) became the second player to combine 10+ rebounds and 10+ assists in a game in the Women’s Olympic Basketball tournament, after South Korea’s Joo Weon Chun in 2000 against Cuba (10reb, 11ast).
Vicky's mum was Nigerian and her father is Spanish. She often expressed a desire to play for Nigeria in order to honour her late mother, but she was never called up by Nigeria. Her father said that the Spanish federation had expressed an interest in her since she was very young.
She won the Under 17 World Cup with Spain (and won the golden ball at the competition) and still she expressed a desire to play for Nigeria, but it never happened. She was called up to the Spanish senior side around a month ago and she played for them, so she can no longer play for Nigeria.
I believe that she will be one of the best players in the world in the not too distant future. She turned 18 three days ago and she already has two Champions League winners medals.
The photo was taken by Salma Paralluelo (who is wearing Michelle Alozie's jersey). Salma has a Spanish father and an Equato-Guinean mother. She is just 20 years old and she is a former athlete (she ran 100 metres for Spain), but switched permanently to football after she was signed by Barcelona. She is the only person that has won the U-17, U-20 and senior women's world cups.
Oshoala, Vicky and Salma all played for Barcelona until Oshoala moved to the US early this year.
