Toni Oyedupe Payne is currently in the Super Falcons camp for the Olympics. They have just moved from their training centre in Spain to Bordeux where they will play Brazil on July 25th.

EVERTON SIGN PAYNE

Everton have completed the signing of Nigeria international forward Toni Payne.

The 29-year-old, who can play across the front line, joins the Club after a six-year spell in Spain with Sevilla and is the first signing of the summer for Brian Sorensen’s side.

“I’m super excited to be an Everton player,” Payne told evertontv. “It’s been my dream to play in the UK and in such a strong league like the WSL.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play at a club like Everton with so much history in football.

“Now was the right moment for me to look for another challenge to push myself.

“It’s going to be different and new, and I’m really happy about my decision.”

Payne, who has 21 caps for Nigeria, was part of the Super Eagles squad that competed at the 2023 World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand, being narrowly beaten by England in the last 16.

Payne says her experience of playing against some of the best talent in the English top-flight only added her desire to move to Merseyside.

“I’m impressed with how the league is investing in teams and the league itself,” she continued.

“I see such a rapid growth and it’s something that I’m really excited and eager to be a part of.”

During that World Cup campaign, Nigeria went up against the Republic of Ireland and competed against two of Payne’s new Blues teammates in Heather Payne and Courtney Brosnan.

Both have developed significantly in their time at Everton, and Payne says the opportunity to development further under the guidance of manager Sorensen is something that excites her.

“You can see just how much the players are growing here at Everton,” she added.

“I think this is going to be a great fit for me because that’s what I want. I want to grow, I want to improve, and this is the perfect place for me to achieve that.

“I’m impressed with the way we play. I think it fits my style and how I want to play. I cannot wait to get started.”

On his first signing of the transfer window, Sorensen told evertonfc.com: “I’m extremely happy to bring Toni to the Club.

“She is exactly the type of player we need. I’m 100-per-cent confident Toni can fit right into our team and into this league because she has a wealth of experience from Spain but also for the Nigeria national team.

“She can play multiple positions and is an intelligent player who is really fast. A player without any injury history, too, so we are confident she will be a big success for us.

“The way we play, it’s very dynamic. We don’t operate with a typical front three, it’s more so about filling the right spaces and having the ability to create opportunities. That’s where she will fit in very well.

“Toni can play across the front line and in behind but can also do combination play and drop into midfield.

“All of these qualities make her a great asset and she will be an important player for us.”

They are believed to have migrated from India thousands of years ago. They are known to be itinerant entertainers. In the past they moved from place to place in horse drawn wagons and made money by entertaining people (singing, dancing, organising plays and fortune telling) wherever they went.

The Roma are mostly Christians, though a few still practice a form of the Hindu religion and a few are Muslims.

They have suffered massive discrimination because they have no country of their own. They are mostly found in Europe and the Americas.

Origin of the crisis

The main video in this tweet shows the moment the crisis started. Apparently Social Services tried to take the children from the home, but they were resisted, so they called the police. The video shows policemen dragging children from the home (the children were resisting the police) as a large crowd gathered outside. Some in the crowd began to challenge the police.


A Roma man in one of the quoted videos explained what happened.

He said that the adult was not at home and that one of the children dropped another child on the ground. He said that the child that was dropped did not cry and the parent did not know that anything had happened when they returned home.

The next day the side of the child's head was swollen, so the parent took the child to the hospital. The man telling the story was asking if they think that the parent would have taken the child to the hospital if he actually did anything wrong.

A major riot has broken out in Leeds in the United Kingdom. Double-decker bus has been burnt and police car and fire trucks have been destroyed in the disturbance. Gangs of people are roaming the streets of Leeds and destroying property.

The chaos was sparked by the removal of 4 children by Social Services. One of the children was injured a few days ago and had to be taken to the hospital. The hospital informed Social Services about the injury and a few days later Social Services came and removed the children from the family. This led to a disturbance that has now escalated into a massive riot.

Major British media outlets are locking their comments sections because the family involved is a Roma (Gypsy) family and some people have turned the crisis into a race issue.

Dan Balki Commander is a politician from Kano and a supporter of Muhammadu Buhari. He is known for appearing on radio programmes in Kano and criticising politicians.

In this video we can see him standing near a body of water in the night. He is in handcuffs. Someone tells him to identify himself (in Hausa Language) and he says that he is Dan Balki. They asked him why he criticised Governor Uba Sani despite the fact that he is not from Kaduna. They started flogging him and he was telling them that he has heart problem. 2 or 3 men kept flogging him with whips.

In another video that went viral later, Dan Balki Commander accused Governor Uba Sani of sending people to assault him. He said that they took him to a remote place near a body of water and that he thought that they were going to throw him in to the water. He said that his assailants covered their faces.


Some opponents of Governor Sani, especially supporters of Mallam El-Rufai and Former President Buhari, accuse the governor of being behind the attack. However, some supporters of Governor Sani say that it looks like the attack was staged and they asked why Balki Commander did not fall when he was being flogged. They also wondered who recorded the video and why the person recorded it and did not intervene.
