Here's the video. Journalists asked him about the president and he said that any leader should know that Nigerians will say all kinds of things about him. He said that, from what he can see, the government is doing its best, but you know Nigerians, people outside often think that they know more than the man that is there. He said that it's too early to get a perfect result and people should give the government time. He said that he knows how it is because he was also criticised during the war. He said that people said he was too slow, that he should go for dialogue and that Nigeria will not make it. But did he do it or not? He said that people often don't know the problems on the ground. Start at the 4:50 minute mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jJiQHJhbpU?si=em-NEREYoXmNR2Nq |
You might have noticed that I have stopped reading posts by funny people. The reason is simple. All they do is post, "I am angry" or post, "I don't want you to do that", or post meaningless insults or try and derail by talking about irrelevant things. None of them addresses the issues in a meaningful way. The only people that try to address the issues simply raise questions that have been answered in the first post (they didn't read it, neither did they watch the videos or click the links). Nobody has time for that. |
The fault should be with the Ecowas protocol and PR people. If they wanted General Gowon to read the letter in Hausa, then they should have told him ahead of time. You can't just ambush him in the hall. Secondly, a letter to a head of state is not something to joke about. Any small error could lead to an incident. Therefore the translation must be perfect. All kinds of funny people are trying to put words in Gowon's mouth, but I'll go with what the General actually said. He said that he has only spoken English in the past 8 or 9 years and that he has forgotten how to. That is understandable. People who don't speak a language for a long time often lose confidence (that's what leads to the phenomenon of, "I understand, but I can't speak" ). If you want someone to translate a document that is as important as a letter to a head of state and you want him to do it in an important place like the Ecowas Headquarters and before the world's media, then you need to be sure that he is very comfortable with the language. Below is the distribution of Hausa speakers.

I shouldn't have to say this (it should be obvious), but it is one of the funniest points that people are trying to push here.General Gowon does not have to be Hausa in order to speak Hausa There are very many people that are not Hausa, yet they speak Hausa fluently. In fact, there are very many people that are not even African, yet they speak Hausa fluently. This is basic knowledge. |
There's a funny guy up there that is desperately trying to get my attention, but he has already proven that he has nothing to offer. Let's play a little game. I haven't read his post and I won't, but go and read it and I bet you that it won't add any new information and there will be nothing enligthening in it. It will just be gibberish of, "I am angry, you must do as I say" and other such nonsense. |
The first time I experienced this was in the mid-1990s. They interviewed a BBC journalist that wae just leaving Niger Republic and they asked about her impression of the country. She said that she was surprised to find out that everybody spoke Hausa and that Hausa was the most common language, not even French and that they expected you to be able to speak Hausa. |
The issue of NTA switching of the broadcast or not has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread. However, anyone that can reason properly will know why NTA ended the telecast (that's if they actually did, because I no longer trust these people). For the others that want to create fantasy conspiracy theories, nobody can help them. |
Most of this is just repetition of what's in the first post. Is it that they can't read, or that they can't comprehend? I don't think there's any point responding if they can't read and comprehend. |
Acidosis:Are you English? Yet you typed this in English. General Gowon said that he used to speak Hausa, but he hasn't spoken it in 8 or 9 years (watch the video). Here is General Gowon speaking Hausa to the BBC https://www.facebook.com/share/v/4rJY7jV3dkivrpaB/?mibextid=gtsPdC Hausa is the most spoken language in Niger Republic and it is also spoken in Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, etc. If you can't understand that, then nobody can help you.

just2endowed:Have you ever heard General Gowon speaking French? This is General Gowon speaking Hauss. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/4rJY7jV3dkivrpaB/?mibextid=gtsPdC Hausa is the most spoken language in Niger Republic. It is also spoken in Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, etc. If you cannot understand that, then nobody can help you.

This is so much fun! The appropriate authorities will handle the rest, let's see if I can take care of some of the obvious ones. |
Goodlady:See this is the crazy thing. The topic is very clear and so is the first post, but none of these people are posting about that. They are all making all kinds of things up in their heads and posting about that. What the hell does what you just posted have to do with this thread?? |
Off to exercise. See you on the other side. (Let's see if we will have meaningful posts by the time I get back, instead of comical, useless and meaningless personal attacks). |
⬆️ Guy is still mentioning me ![]() I give people 2 chances to make a meaningful contribution, then they go into my ignore list. I won't read their posts again, I'll just hit the back button when I see their usernames. He is in my ignore list, but he is desperately trying to get my attention. Isn't that funny? ![]() |
BeardedMeat:More utter meaningless gibberish. Have you actually got anything meaningful to contribute? |
You have no idea how much I am enjoying this thread. The people that attacked the NTA and the Nigerian Government (creating all kinds of ridiculous conspiracy theories and acronymns) are desperately trying to deflect and turn attention away from the fact that it wasn't the NTA or the Nigerian Government that asked Gowon to speak Hausa. It's very entertaining. |
BeardedMeat:Aha! This one is a mind reader that knows General Gowon's motive! But he too failed to address the subject of the thread. |
VikingKing:Aha! You see? Not one attempt to address the topic of the thread. Just some useless and worthless allegation that I couldn't give a damn about. Keep them coming. ![]() |
emmybobo1:It's all there in the post, except you want to give us a conspiracy theory? ![]() |
Let's see who's next. ![]() |
kiyosaki1:A total load of crap with no substance at all. What is the problem? Is it comprehension or is it that you didn't even read the post at all? Communication needs to be meaningful to be effective, but your post lacks any meaning at all. |
Ensa777:Hahahahahahahaha Obviously you didn't even read anything, talking about NTA should have done their prep. Is there any merit in engaging you since you didn't read or don't even understand what you read? There's none. |
