Funny thing is that this arrangement has never been in contention for sometimes now until the agitations in recent times.

In any case, it is Sunnah of our Blessed Prophet who teaches that in an entity or any entity for that matter even if they are just 2 in numbers, they must assigned a Leader!

In Nigeria today, that Leader of the Faithful is the Sultan.

I am Yoruba and Muslim and I subscribed more to been led by the Sultan than our Obas when it comes to Islamic stuff.

It's basically an arrangement that the Sultan of Sokoto is the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), while a southerner is the secretary-general.

The position of president-general is kind of like the presidency in the first republic, it's more of a ceremonial position. The day to day running of the SCIA is in the hands of the secretary-general.

The secretary-general of the SCIA for a long time was Dr Lateef Adegbite and after he died Professor Ishaq Oloyede became the secretary-general.

They select members of the Moon Sighting Committee, etc. The Sultan simply makes the announcement as the public face of the council.

This provides balance.

It was as if Jesse Jackson was the Nigeria candidate in the 1988 Democratic primary elections. People all over Nigeria supported him and Nigerian media followed the campaign closely.

He eventually lost to Dukakis.

Every year people come to try and provoke me on these threads and every year they fail. The only person that came close was the guy that argued with me about what was frejon and what was not, but I'll never argue with anyone about that again. I will always use the trolls for my amusement.
