Like I said a few years ago (regarding the position of CJN), these things make no sense, but they seem to move otherwise sensible Nigerians.
(In the case of the CJN, all CJNs of Nigeria from 1958 till 1987 were southern Christians, but there was no outcry, but the outcry began as soon as a northern Muslim was appointed).

Pays tribute to ex-Nigerian leader, says honesty, simplicity, self-discipline remain central to national leadership*

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT has said the life and legacy of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to speak to Nigeria, saying his transformation from military ruler to civilian democrat marked him out as a rare figure in the nation's history.
He urged political leaders and public officials to emulate the late former President by upholding the values of honesty, simplicity and self-discipline in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Speaking on Monday in Abuja during a prayer session marking the first anniversary of Buhari’s death, the Nigerian leader, who was represented by his deputy, Vice President Kashim Shettima @officialSKSM , described the late Buhar as a patriot whose service, character and devotion to the country left an enduring imprint on the nation’s conscience.
According to the President, Buhari’s legacy went beyond the offices he occupied, reflecting a lifetime of consistency between his words, principles and personal conduct.
“President Buhari gave everything he had to this country, and he gave it without reservation. He served with courage, with conviction, and with a patriotism that never asked what the nation could return to him,” he said.
President Tinubu recalled their years as political allies and partners in the pursuit of a renewed, progressive and prosperous Nigeria, describing Buhari as a fellow traveller on the long road of politics and national development.
“From his years as a military leader to his transformation into a democrat and a determined defender of constitutional order, he embodied the very spirit of change and of nation-building," he said.
The President noted that despite the pressures and controversies that often accompany high office, the late former Nigerian leader retained the trust and affection of many ordinary Nigerians after leaving power.
He described that enduring public confidence as one of the strongest inheritances any leader could leave behind, stressing that such trust could only be earned through years of consistency, discipline and integrity.
“When he laid down the burden of leadership, and through all the years of his retirement, the trust of ordinary Nigerians did not depart from him. It is not given. It is earned, and it is earned only through a lifetime of agreement between what a man says and what a man is," he stated.
President Tinubu urged Buhari’s friends, associates and political followers to preserve his legacy by reflecting his values in their personal conduct and public service.
“Our duty, as his friends and his associates, is to carry forward the inheritance he left us: honesty, simplicity, and self-discipline,” he said.
The Nigerian leader added that the most meaningful tribute Nigerians could pay Buhari was to uphold the standards of character, patriotism and public aresponsibility that defined his life.
“We must continue to strive, in our own conduct, to approach the standard he kept. That is the only tribute worthy of him, and it is the one he would have asked for,” he.l
He also reassured former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and members of the Buhari family of the continued support of the Federal Government and the Nigerian people.
“Please be assured that the nation and this administration stand beside you, now and in all the years to come,” the President said.
President Tinubu prayed Almighty Allah to continue to comfort the family and grant the former President Aljannah Firdaus.
Earlier, former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), recalled the incident surrounding the demise and burial of the former President, noting that it reflected the love, respect and admiration that the late Nigerian leader commanded among citizens and non-citizens within and outside the country.
For his part, the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, said the gathering was not merely a remembrance of the former leader but a reflection on his life and the examination of his good virtues, and lifestyle which continues to shape governance in Borno State and beyond.
He noted that the late former President had a unique disposition to leadership, governance and service to humanity which he said is worthy of emulation.
He ssid the greatest tributes to the late President was not in the words spoken at the ocassion but in the prayers offered for the continued repose of his soul and the preservation of his legacies.
In his welcome address, former SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha, said the event was not just a mere remembrance of the late former President but an ocassion to reflect on the life of service and dedication to humanity that encapsulated the person and service to the nation as its leader.
The former SGF said the service, sacrifices, life and contributions of the late Nigerian leader was reflected in the tributes in honour of his memory by distinguished Nigerians and associates from all walks of life.
While announcing the decision of the family and associates to establish a foundation in honour of the late President, Mr Mustapha said it was the collective responsibility of leaders across different sectors and Nigerians in general to preserve his legacies and emulate his virtues in the interest of the country’s peaceful coexistence.
For his part, the Governor of Katsina State, represented by his deputy, Mallam Farouk Lawal Jobe, thanked President Tinubu for his support to the government and people of Katsina State as well as the Buhari family, during the burial of late President and for ensuring the preservation of his legacies.
He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to the tenets of democracy, good governance and peaceful coexistence, which he noted, characterised the former President's reign as leader of the nation between 2015 and 2023.
In seperate remarks, the late president's former aides, friends and associates, paid glowing tributes and offered prayers for the continued repose of his soul and for his family.
Special prayers for the continued repose of his soul were also led by Archbishop Emeritus of the Abuja Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; Imam of the National Mosque, Sheikh Abdulkadir Al-Salman Sholagberu; other religious and traditional leaders.
The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of the book of tributes by Vice President Shettima.

I wish to offer my deepest and most sincere apology to Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, his family, and the general public.
I publicly admit that the stories I published concerning Governor Soludo and his son were completely fake, false, fabricated, and untrue. They did not come from Governor Soludo, his son, his family, or any official representative. They were not based on any verified facts or credible source, and they should never have been presented as news.
The false posts I published included:
* “Breaking News: ‘I will arrest anyone who calls Ozo my son. He is not my son. I disowned him years ago, and he is no longer a member of the Soludo family.’”
* “Just In: I Don’t Take Advice From My Father. He Was a Drunkard Who Beat My Mom When I Was Young. His Treatment of My Mother Made Me Decide Never to Take Advice From Him — ‘Soludo’s Son’ Speaks Out.”
* “Breaking News: ‘I ordered Ozo from Temu. He is Chinese-made, not my son. Even at the hospital when he was born, I asked the doctor, ‘I hope you didn’t accidentally exchange my real son.’ Ozo is from Temu,’ Soludo jokingly told reporters.”
* “Breaking News: ‘They should organize a drinking competition between my father and Wike. I just want to see something. I’m willing to bet my life that my father would win. People don’t understand his drinking capacity.’ — Ozo.”
I state clearly and without reservation that every one of the statements above was fake. They should not be regarded as factual reports or genuine quotations. I take full responsibility for publishing them.
I also wish to acknowledge that the false posts listed above were not the only fabricated stories I published about Governor Soludo. Among other posts on Igbo Times Magazine and INews, I also published false and misleading stories involving Governor Soludo and Mr. Peter Obi, including claims that Mr. Peter Obi would defeat Governor Soludo in an election. Those stories were also completely false, were not based on any verified facts, and should never have been published.
I sincerely admit that I published such stories in pursuit of online traffic, audience engagement, and financial gain. I now realize that no amount of money or online attention can justify spreading false information or damaging another person’s reputation. I deeply regret my actions and accept full responsibility for everything I published.
I deeply regret the embarrassment, reputational harm, and misunderstanding these fabricated stories may have caused to Governor Soludo, his family, his associates, and members of the public.
To Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, I respectfully and humbly ask for your forgiveness. I sincerely apologize for my actions and for publishing information that was false.
I also apologize to the people of Anambra State, readers of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, and everyone who may have seen or shared these false publications. I am committed to correcting this mistake and ensuring that such an incident does not happen again.

ANAMBRA POLICE ARRAIGNS OWNER AND PUBLISHER OF IGBO TIMES MAGAZINE AND INEWS OVER ALLEGED PUBLICATION OF FALSE AND DEFAMATORY REPORTS AGAINST THE FAMILY OF THE ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNOR
The Anambra State Police Command today 13th July 2026, arraigned Mr Ejike Ofoegbu the alleged owner and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and iNews before a competent court over allegations bordering on the publication of fabricated, untrue, and defamatory reports against the family of the Governor of Anambra State.
The arraignment followed the Command's receipt of the suspect from the Department of State Services Awka, and the conclusion of Police investigations into a petition alleging the publication of false information capable of causing reputational harm and inciting public disaffection.
To this end, the Suspect has been remanded in a correctional centre in the State. The Command also notes that it will refrain from making further comments, as this may prejudice the ongoing court proceedings.
Furthermore, the Command advises members of the public, media practitioners, and publishers to exercise due diligence in verifying information before publication and to adhere to the ethics of responsible journalism and the provisions of extant laws governing the dissemination of information.

Blogger Arraigned Over Alleged False Reports On Soludo’s Family
[i]Justice Obiora ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Anambra State Correctional Centre in Amawbia pending the hearing of the case.
The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned the owner and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and iNews, Ejike Ofoegbu, over allegations of publishing false and defamatory reports against the family of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Ofoegbu was brought under police escort to Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Awka on Monday following the conclusion of investigations by the police after he was handed over by the Department of State Services (DSS).
At the end of the proceedings, the presiding magistrate, Justice Obiora, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Anambra State Correctional Centre in Amawbia pending the hearing of the case.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, the prosecution followed a petition accusing the blogger of publishing fabricated reports allegedly designed to damage the reputation of the governor’s family and stir public resentment.
Ikenga said police investigations revealed that the suspect published several reports within a short period containing what investigators described as false claims about Governor Soludo and members of his family.
The police alleged that the stories were entirely fabricated and were presented as direct quotations to create an impression of authenticity.
According to the command, the publications were not the result of journalistic mistakes or inaccurate reporting but were deliberate attempts to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the governor’s family.
Investigators further claimed that Ofoegbu admitted during questioning that the stories were fabricated and published primarily to attract traffic to his blog.
The police described the case as a serious misuse of media platforms and said the prosecution was intended to ensure accountability through the judicial process.
While declining to comment extensively because the matter is already before the court, Ikenga urged journalists, bloggers and other media practitioners to adhere to professional ethics by verifying information before publication.
He also advised members of the public to rely on credible sources for information and avoid sharing unverified reports, warning that the deliberate dissemination of false information could attract legal sanctions under existing laws.
