Bishop David Oyedepo, has come under fire from a section of Nigerians for making a declaration that Nigeria is moving forward despite the challenges facing the country. Bishop David Oyedepo was alleged to have threatened to open the gate of hell on those opposing the former president Goodluck Jonathan in the weeks leading up to the 2015 general elections. The founder of the Living Faith Church (LFC), reportedly made the declaration in a telecast to the local and international assembly of the church workers recently. The bishop also said the emergence of private tertiary institutions, championed by the church, has helped to right moral codes in the country’s educational system as well as help to eradicate cultism and activism. But it appears the comments of Oyedepo who was close to the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, has attracted the ire of some Nigerians who have accused him of making empty promises not backed by the bible. Others attacked the bishop for running a private university that many of his church members cannot afford to send their kids to. https://www.naij.com/884878-bishop-oyedepo-fire-controversial-prophecy.html?source=index_trending |
Uche Ogah, the governor-elect of Abia state, has rejected the ruling of an Imo state high court in favour of Okezie Ikpeazu, the sitting governor. Justice AI Allagoa, on Friday, July 8, affirmed the election of Ikpeazu saying that the plaintiff, Friday Nwosu, was unable to prove that the tax documents against the governor were forged. The ruling thus seems to nullify the earlier ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja which declared Ogah as governor-elect and asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him certificate of return. Monday Ubani, lawyer to Ogah, said the judgement by Justice Allagoa cannot stand because, apart from the fact that another court had ruled on the issue, what the Owerri court looked at was a different ground of argument. “The refusal of Justice Abang of the Federal High Court to hear the application for stay of execution of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu means that the judgement he delivered on the 27th of June still stands until it is reversed by a higher court, this time the Court of Appeal and/or later the Supreme Court. “It is important to point out that the judgement of the high court, Owerri in which the reliefs of Mr Nwosu were dismissed is very favorable to Dr Uche Ogah. “It would have been otherwise if the Court in Owerri had ordered Dr Ikpeazu to vacate his seat for Mr Nwosu to take over. “Mr Nwosu came under weak foundation; he alleged forgery of the tax papers, that allegation must be proved beyond reasonable doubts. “Did Dr Okezie really forge his tax papers? The answer is no, but did his tax papers contain false information? The answer is yes. These are two different things that must be distinguished. “He was therefore unable to prove forgery and so had his reliefs denied. “His case against Dr. Uche Ogah is that Dr Uche failed to sign the Result Sheet and so cannot be a beneficiary of what he refused to acknowledge. “The court dismissed that arm of claim as the foundation of such claims lacks merit and not sustainable. He had all his reliefs denied and thrown out. “I heard though not confirmed that the Osisioma high court has extended its illegal ex parte order to God-knows-when. “These are panicky measures that will be corrected later in the appellate courts. “If this illegality is allowed or tolerated by the judiciary we might as well kiss goodbye to our democracy. “It is absurdity of unimaginable proportion,” he said. https://www.naij.com/885174-uche-ogah-breathes-hot-court-ruling-favouring-ikpeazu.html?source=index_trending |
The APC Senator representing Kogi East insisted that Senate President Bukola Saraki is only guilty of the same offence President Muhammad Buhari attempted four times, the crime of ‘ambition’ In the interview which focused on the Senate President’s troubles both with the CCT and now the court as regards the tampering of the standing rules of senate saw Melaye stand behind Saraki and saying “What the Senate President is going through from my myopic view is not prosecution but persecution” He also said that Saraki’s Only Crime was ambition to be Senate President, something he says he shares with Buhari who had tried on 4 occasions to be President of the nation. He slammed the CCT trail as being a sham and that it was already falling apart under cross examination. On the matter of the forgery of senate rules, Melaye said that the National Assembly being an independent body already had mechanisms in place to handle this situation and that they should let it be handled there. When presented with the fact that the 7th Senate claimed that they had not altered the rules and then questioned on how the rules changed Dino Melaye said, “In 1999 when there was no Senate when they resumed they started with a rule, who produced that rule? The Bureaucracy “So once the 7th Senate ended on the 6th of June whatever happened between the 6th of June and the resumption of the 8th Senate only the bureaucracy can take responsibility, no single senator can take responsibility because as far as everyone is concerned the 7th Senate winded up on the 6th of June so whatever happened to the rules, the Senate, to the national assembly between 6th and 9th that the new senators were sworn in only the bureaucracy will take responsibility.” When asked about the identity of the bureaucracy, Melaye identified the clerk of the National Assembly, the clerk of the Senate, the clerk of the house of reps as the bureaucracy. He went on to say that even if there was indeed a forgery, there were mechanisms in place withing the Senate to clear up the issue. Stating that if rules wanted to be amended or challenged all they had to do was bring it up on the floor of the house. http://www.herald.ng/sarakis-crime-similar-buhari-done-4-times-melaye/?utm_source=nnd&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=nnd |
Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki has spoken up about the arms deal scandal disclosing that former President Goodluck Jonathan approved all the expenses incurred by his office. Dasuki also protested his continued detention adding that he only obeyed the directive of former President Goodluck Jonathan as dictated by civil service rules, The Nation reports. “ I am ready for trial because they have destroyed my family’s name and my professional integrity, especially how we successfully fought Boko Haram and recovered major towns and cities, not villages. “They should let my trial start in earnest to enable Nigerians know the truth from falsehood. “I don’t believe in secret trial and there is no basis for it because the government has filed all necessary papers in court and attached the list of witnesses. “Since the witnesses have become public knowledge, there is no basis for secret trial,” “Since I was detained in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), I have not been shown any warrant to this effect or court order. “I deserve to be shown the warrant of detention by DSS and the purpose for restricting me to house arrest. My detention is unlawful,” he lamented. “All those who collected funds from ONSA have been granted bail but I am still in custody. “I have been granted bail on all the cases filed against me by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and even DSS, but I have not been released. “If all the beneficiaries of the so-called funds are on bail, what have I done wrong? Nigerians should help prevail on the government to grant me bail. “I cannot rock the boat. I am prepared for trial. We did everything with national and security interest,” he said. “Based on the service rules in the security circle, I owe it a duty to obey the president and Commander-In-Chief. Ex-President Jonathan approved all the expenses incurred by ONSA. “I am ready to prove in court how we complied with the directive of the ex-President,” he added. |
