Today September 8 is the birthday of Mother Mary. It is the feast day of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus.I am forever grateful for all the intercessions and help in times of great need when I need comfort you have been there to listen to me and to lift us out of misery. Thank you Mother Mary for everything!!! May you continue to intercede for us, pray for us and guide us in our life. The primary focus of this feast day is that the world had been enslaved in the darkness of sin and with the arrival of Mary begins a glimmer of light. Living in our current culture of death, we rejoice in Mother Mary who shows us the way to the culture of life by drawing us closer to the Heart of her Son. As St. Louis de Montfort says, "She is an echo of God, speaking and repeating only God. If you say "Mary" she says "God". There is a bond of love between Mary and God like no other. As the Mother of God, Mary is radiantly beautifully. She is totally pure, modest, chaste, humble, obedient. Her soul is immaculate -- free from the stain of original sin. Mary is often referred to as the "New Eve." Through her fiat -- her obedience to the will of God -- she opened the doors of redemption and salvation to all her children which had been closed by Eve in her disobedience to the will of God. Because of God's eternal design, she became a necessary element for our redemption from the bondage of sin. As St. Jerome wrote: "Death through Eve, life through Mary." And, in the words of St. Louis de Montfort, "Mary alone gives to the unfortunate children of unfaithful Eve entry into that earthly paradise where they may walk pleasantly with God and be safely hidden from their enemies. There they can feed without fear of death on the delicious fruit of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They can drink copiously the heavenly waters of that beauteous fountain which gushes forth in such abundance." Today, let us celebrate with joyful hearts the miraculous birth of God's Mother and our Mother -- the one who gives us life and hope for the future. Happy birthday mummy. We love you and we are.Thank you Mother!!! |

MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture: Mark 10:28-31) THEME:FOLLOWING CHRIST DEMANDS OUR COMPLETE ALLEGIANCE ‘We have left everything and followed you’ (v. 28). Peter’s statement indicated an underlying anxiety: what reward is there in being a disciple of Jesus? Immediately he was reassured that the rewards will be great in this age and greater in the age to come: in fact, being a disciple of Jesus brings eternal life – the greatest reward imaginable. However, Jesus warns that being a disciple will involve renunciation and persecution. These trials are signs that while waiting on earth for the glorious return of our Lord we are involved in a spiritual battle, and they are tests which purify and strengthen faith. In the Old Testament we have the example of many holy men and women who were persecuted: Moses, David, Jeremiah and Susannah among others. They bore their suffering with patience and hope. Moses chose to discard the robes of the Egyptian court and put on the Hebrew garments of his enslaved brothers and sisters. Leading them through the desert in obedience to God, he endured their murmuring for forty years, and repeatedly turned to God for strength, courage and patience. Not many of us are called to leave family and friends, but in our daily lives there are many ways we undergo sacrifice: perhaps in devoting our energies to family life above our own ambition, or caring for an elderly or sick relative, or suffering the pain of disability or sickness. Whatever our situation, as we seek to give our lives to the Lord and call upon him for comfort, help and patience, we can be sure that he sees and richly blesses everything we do to serve his kingdom. In undergoing sacrifice Christ rewards us with all things. The more we are able to develop detachment to the things of this life the more in fact life here and now is abundant and rich. This way of life is constantly rich and fulfilling. It is open-handed in generosity and open-hearted in love. In worldly terms the disciple of Christ may appear poor, but in eternal terms he or she is rich. Or, as Jesus puts it, this person of faith may seem to be last, but within God’s perspective he or she comes first. PRAYER:Lord, sometimes my ego gets in my way and I strive to be the first in some things. Show me the glory of allowing myself to be last. Grant me the strength of character to realize that by taking the back seat I am first in your eyes. |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture:Mark 10:17-27 ) THEME:HOW CAN WE ATTAIN SALVATION?THE ULTIMATE GOAL IN LIFE The rich young man approaches Jesus urgently, and upon reaching him falls to his knees. He has something important on his mind. He asks a question, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ (v. 17). Jesus’ answer is simple: he indicates that it is necessary to keep the commandments. He makes the close connection between eternal life and obedience to God’s commandments. In Veritatis splendor Blessed John Paul II expounds this truth: ‘God’s commandments show man the path of life and they lead to it. From the very lips of Jesus, the new Moses, man is once again given the commandments of the Decalogue. Jesus himself definitely confirms them and proposes them to us as the way and condition of salvation’ (para. 12). Yet the young man is brought to the realization that something else is needed of him. ‘Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me”’ (v. 21). These words have surely been responsible for the deep commitment to Christ of many men and women throughout the ages. It is not for all of us to renounce everything we own in this way, although there is a close link between our attitude to the things of this world and following Christ. The more we become attached to the material the less we yearn for the spiritual, and yet the more we taste the spiritual the weaker is the hold of the material. The evident weakness of the rich young man produces in him sadness. It is only as we too come in touch with our own inability to change ourselves that we can tackle the pride that is often at the heart of our love for the world. It is the work of the Holy Spirit which allows us to see our frailty and provides the grace humbly to turn to Jesus. There is surely power and grace to change if only we will humble ourselves before God. He will never turn us away; in fact he desires nothing more than to free us from the hold that these transient and fleeting desires have upon our lives. PRAYER:Lord, grant me the courage to divest myself of all that stands between yourself and me. There is nothing that I possess that is worth more than my relationship with you. Help me to be poor in your sight. |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture: John 21:20-25) THEME:COMPARING OUR LOT WITH OTHERS IN SERVING THE LORD Peter seems jealous that others have a special relationship with Jesus. When am I jealous of the spirituality of others? Is it a healthy jealousy? Indeed, for better or otherwise, we will always be surrounded by people, and we will notice them just as they will notice us. So we may or may not find it surprising that Peter should ask Jesus about the disciple whom He loved. And it seemed that Jesus reproached Peter and told him to mind his own business. Yet it order to have a better understanding of Peter's intentions, we might have to read the preceding passage. Jesus had told Peter to feed His sheep and to follow Him and even indicated what kind of future Peter will have to face. Well after knowing what is in store for him, Peter would certainly like to know what the rest would face, especially the disciple Jesus loved, whether it is out of concern or out of curiosity. Therefore Jesus had to bring Peter back to focus on his commitment to love and the mission that he had received. And as we prepare for the renewal and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, let us focus on our commitment to love and our mission to love. Love is never about the self; it is always about others and for their good. Let us keep focused on that. PRAYER:Lord, I know sometimes I envy the closeness I see others have with you. Help me to strengthen my own relationship with you so that the relationship of others will not matter to me. Take away my jealousy and grant me the strength to overcome it. |

MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture: John 17:20-26) THEME:“May they become perfectly one” Do you pray as Jesus did for the unity of all Christians? The distinctive mark of Jesus disciples is their love and unity. “How good and delightful it is when brethren dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1). Jesus' high priestly prayer at the last supper concludes with the petition for Christian unity among all who profess Jesus Christ as Lord. Jesus prays for all men and women who will come after him and follow him as his disciples. In a special way Jesus prays here for us that as members of his body the church we would be one as he and his Father is one. The unity of Jesus and his Father is a unity of love and obedience and a unity of personal relationship. Because Jesus loved us first and united us in baptism we are called to live in a unity of love. Jesus’ prayer on the eve of his sacrifice shows the great love and trust he has in his beloved disciples. He knows they would abandon him in his hour of trial, yet he entrusted to them the great task of spreading his name throughout the world and to the end of the ages. The Lord entrust us with the same mission – to make him known and loved by all. Jesus died and rose again that all might be one as he and the Father are one. Do you love and accept all baptized Christians as your brothers and sisters in Christ? PRAYER:"Heavenly Father, have mercy on your people and heal the divisions in the body of Christ. May all Christian people throughout the world attain the unity for which Jesus prayed on the eve of his sacrifice. Renew in us the power of the Spirit that we may be a sign of that unity and a means of its growth. Increase in us a fervent love for all our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ." |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY(SCRIPTURE:Acts 19:1- ![]() THEME:the need to receive the Holy Spirit explicitly in order to be His witnesses. Paul asked a vital question of the disciples he encountered at Ephesus: ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’ We can imagine his concern when the response to his enquiry was, ‘No, we have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit’ (v. 2). Alarmed and concerned, he quickly learned that although they were familiar with the baptism of John and the message of repentance, these disciples were ignorant of baptism in the Holy Spirit. Eager for them to receive the Holy Spirit, Paul laid his hands on them and they immediately began to speak in tongues and to prophesy. These disciples had their faith transformed and renewed by the Holy Spirit. They were candid and humble about their ignorance of the Holy Spirit, and their honesty and frankness allowed them to be open and receptive to Paul’s preaching and teaching. Paul was governed by the Holy Spirit. He was utterly convinced that the Church grew and expanded under the Spirit’s power and guidance. This was a view also shared by Blessed Pope John Paul II who said, ‘The renewal of the Church providentially started and outlined by the Vatican Council cannot be fulfilled without the Holy Spirit. That means without his help and his life.’ At Pentecost God gave the gift of the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity. Jesus did not leave us as orphans, alone, lost and confused. He sends his Holy Spirit who comes to live within our hearts and minds, and empowers us to live vibrant and full lives. We can ask the Holy Spirit to invigorate and renew our love for Jesus – the Holy Spirit delights to reveal in deeper measure the treasures and riches of the Son. We can always discern the work of the Holy Spirit within us because he moves, urges and encourages us to proclaim and exalt Jesus as Lord. Today be bold and expectant that God wants to renew and refresh you in the power, wisdom and grace of his Holy Spirit. PRAYER:Through the Holy Spirit we are restored to paradise, led back to the kingdom of heaven and adopted as children, given confidence to call God “Father” and to share in Christ’s grace, called children of light and given a share in eternal glory in Jesus name.Amen |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture: John 17:11-19) THEME:"Sanctified and consecrated in God's truth" Do you know why God created you what purpose and mission he has entrusted to you? Jesus' aim and mission was to glorify his heavenly Father. All he said and did gave glory to his Father. On the eve of his sacrifice on the cross and in the presence of his disciples, Jesus made his high priestly prayer: "Holy Father, keep them in your name that they may be one as we are one". Jesus prayed for the unity of his disciples and for all who would believe in him. Jesus' prayer for his people is that we be united with God the Father in his Son and through his Holy Spirit and be joined together, in unity with all who are members of Christ's body. What motivated Jesus to lay down his life on the cross as the atoning sacrifice for the sin of the world? It was love – love for his Father in heaven and love for each and everyone of us who are made in the image and likeness of God. Jesus was sent into the world by his Father for a purpose and that purpose was a mission of love to free us from slavery to sin, Satan, fear, death, and hopelessness. Jesus saw glory in the cross rather than shame. Obedience to his Father's will was his glory. Jesus kept his Father's word even when tempted to forgo the cross. Jesus did not rely on his own human resources and strength to accomplish his Father's will. He trusted in his Father to give him strength, courage, and perseverance in the face of opposition, trials, and temptation. We also must take up our cross and follow the Lord Jesus wherever he may call us. He will give us the strength and power of the Holy Spirit to live as his disciples. John Henry Newman wrote: "God has created me, to do him some definite service; he has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I have my mission – I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for nothing. Therefore, I will trust him. Whatever, wherever I am. I cannot be thrown away." Do you trust in God and in his call and purpose for your life? Jesus prayed that his disciples would be sanctified and consecrated in God's truth and holiness. The scriptural word for consecration comes from the same Hebrew word which means holy or set apart for God. This word also means to be equiped with the qualities of mind and heart and character for such a task or service. Just as Jesus was called by the Father to serve in holiness and truth, so we, too, are called and equipped for the task of serving God in the world as his ambassadors. God's truth frees us from ignorance and the deception of sin. It reveals to us God's goodness, love, and wisdom. And it gives us a thirst for God's holiness. The Holy Spirit is the source and giver of all holiness. As we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, he transforms us by his purifying fire and changes us into the likeness of Christ. Is your life consecrated to God? PRAYER:"Lord Jesus, take my life and make it wholly pleasing to you. Sanctify me in your truth and guide me by your Holy Spirit that I may follow you faithfully wherever you lead." |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY(Scripture Acts 18:23-28) THEME:DEVELOPING THE FULL POTENTIALS OF EACH PERSON. Today’s first reading introduces us to Apollos and some very interesting complexities. We are told that Apollos gave a very spirited account of why Jesus is the Christ to the Jews in Ephesus. What is unique here is that Apollos did not seem to have received the Spirit, and yet was able to debate successfully with the Jews. He had not received the Spirit because he had only been given the baptism of John, which John himself explained was with water, whereas the one coming after him, Jesus, would baptize with the Holy Spirit (cf. Mark 1: . So the first reading today emphasizes the human qualities of Apollos to explain his success. We are told he was eloquent, with a complete knowledge of the Scriptures. In other words, he was such a gifted individual that he was able to use his own resources to debate the Good News with the Jews. It was not the Spirit speaking in him, although he would certainly have been given guidance and grace by God in his ministry as an evangelizer of Jesus to the Jews.It is interesting to note the role of Priscilla and Aquila in Apollos’ development. They had received the Spirit through baptism and had spent eighteen months with Paul. So they took Apollos under their wing and ‘expounded to him the way of God more accurately’ (v. 26). This shows that there is a depth to the teaching about Christ. And Apollos here shows great humility. He would have known he was a talented speaker and that he was accurate in what he said about Jesus. But deep down he must have known that Priscilla and Aquila had more to teach him. He therefore submitted to their superior knowledge and spent time learning more about the Way. This is a possible lesson for us today. However well we think we know the Scriptures and our faith, there are people out there who have a deeper understanding. Whether that means going on a guided retreat, or reading something written by a Pope, or reading one of the lives of the saints, we can take time out from our own particular path of faith. We can always go further in our knowledge of God, and by deepening knowledge we will in turn deepen our love for the Lord. PRAYER:God, please bless our Pope in his mission to shepherd souls closer to Jesus, the source of all truth. |
MEDITATION OF THE DAY( Scripture: John 16: 20-23) THEME:There may be difficult times ahead of us but after the suffering will come joy. Jesus tells His disciples there are difficult times ahead but after the suffering will come joy. The dawning of the gift of the knowledge of salvation must be the most joyous experience anyone can have. The disciples witnessed this whole process first hand when they saw Jesus die and then resurrected. What a privilege this must have been for them. Undoubtedly this would have inspired them to do great things for the Gospel. Why does Jesus tell his disciples to weep and lament and be sorrowful? Jesus was neither a pessimist nor a masochist, and he was certainly more than a realist! The way to happiness and joy in the kingdom of God is through the cross. Sin must be brought to the cross of Jesus Christ and evil can only be completely mastered by the power of God's redeeming love. Jesus told his disciples that it was more blessed to mourn for sin because it would yield the fruit of peace, joy, and righteousness. Jesus knew that the cross would be a stumbling block for those who refused to believe in him. PRAYER:"Lord Jesus, we are an Easter people, and alleluia is our song. May we radiate the joy of Easter and live in the reality of Christ's victory over sin and death." |
