Jozilinn: You see that word "appreciation" it's very important in any job you're doing in this life. If your brother isn't valued let him rest get himself and get a new job no matter the unemployment rate in Nigeria don't forget that's it's only a living man that is needed to work. Dead people get minutes if silence and are replaced for someone that's not valued I'm very sure the man wouldn't mind employing someone that day. Let him resign he might suffer but it's better to suffer than to die doing a worthless job.
Just keep putting I him prayers I know God would help you to train him even if your parents are not alive you'll accomplish more than what they wanted on you In jesus name Amen. Amen. Thank you so much Sir. God bless you |

Rubyjade: This is genuinely heartbreaking to read, and I'm sorry your brother is going through this.
From what you've described, this goes beyond having a "strict boss." It raises serious concerns about working conditions and employee welfare.
No employee should be expected to:
* Work without clearly defined hours or regular time off. * Be on call 24/7 without adequate rest. * Sleep in unsafe or unsuitable conditions at the workplace. * Endure constant verbal abuse or humiliation. * Work while seriously ill without being allowed to recover.
The absence of an appointment letter, unclear terms of employment, and lack of basic welfare provisions are also concerning.
Your brother's health should come first. No job is worth sacrificing his physical or mental well-being. If he is becoming ill, losing weight, and showing signs of exhaustion, it's important that he begins looking for another opportunity immediately while, if possible, documenting his work conditions and ensuring he receives any outstanding wages.
Sometimes, when people are under financial pressure, they feel they have no choice but to endure difficult situations. But there is a difference between hard work and an unhealthy work environment.
Please encourage him to update his CV, apply for other roles, and leave as soon as he has a viable alternative. If his health continues to deteriorate, seeking medical attention should take priority.
We also encourage members of this community to share any facility management, hotel operations, or maintenance opportunities that may be suitable for him. Hopefully, together we can help him find a workplace where his skills are valued and his dignity is respected.
We wish him a speedy recovery and a much better opportunity soon. 🙏 Thanks so much Sir. Nlfpm |

Wealthyonos: These are the kind of bosses I've worked for before. But in my case, if you don't provide what's needed for me to survive, I'll take what's rightfully mine, and you know what that means. At the end of the day, you'll still pay me my salary. So when you're yelling, I don't feel like quitting. Tell your brother to buy a mosquito net and look for cartons or half rubs to make his sleep space at night. Have a thick wrapper or duvet to prevent cold. I think your bro is kind of soft. Ability to think up solutions in the face of challenges is what makes you a good leader. So, what do u expect him to think up? Pls suggest. Thank you! |

franchasng: Nigerian Labor Union really need to be disbanded because they are useless to Nigerian workers.
There should be a government parastatal monitoring work ethics compliance in Nigeria, especially in Hotel, Private schools job related sectors. These two sectors in Nigeria are fond of abusing Nigerian workers and needs urgent government regulation.
I am also an employer of labor and God being my witness, those working with me are blessed. Yes our salary package might not be comparable to some big firms, but working with us gives you peace of mind, job security and time to plan and organize your own life for future growth.
During our monthly staff virtual meetings, I always encourage our workers to put in their best so that the company can grow and remain in business for them to also have a job, and I also encourage them about developing their personal skills outside work environment for their own future growth. I always assure them that their jobs are secured so long as the company remains in business and you are not found stealing company resources, assets, etc.
Every staff have 2 days off in a week and they dont work on Sundays. I made them to understand that the 2 days off every week is not easy for the company to operate on but I made it that way to give them room to relax their brains, take care of their lives and families and also to make them work with their heart. But then we only have 15 days leave in a year which is less than what other companies give as leave .
So I want to encourage every Nigerian employer reading this, no matter your business sector, please treat your workers with God's fear and love. Remember they are also humans like you. I have been asking God to help the company grow in our operations and turnover so that I can start offering my workers car loans, housing loans, educational advancement loans because I really wish to see every of my worker own a car after 5 years and a house after working with us for like 15 years. This is my desire and I pray God see my heart and grant this request soonest.
Every Nigerian employer must strive to create a healthy and happy working environment for his workers and then make it clear to them that certain things are not condoned no matter what, things like stealing, office kickbacks and corrupt practices. Work diligently and pray for the business to grow so that you can also grow, this is our motto
As for op, please tell your brother to plan his exit by engaging in massive savings at all cost and plan to quit in like 4 months time after having some savings and if the employer improves before then he can continue with the job. He should not forget the power of sincere prayers too, God answers prayers. I wish him the best Thank you so much. |

The only serious issue here is the offdays which he can negotiate with the director, every other thing can be tolerated. And that's the reason for this post. No human deserves such treatment. Let me go straight to the point;
So, my kid brother(26) got a job in an Hotel as it's facility supervisor. When he started(June 1st, 2026) this job, he wasn't given an appointment letter. He was only told that about his operational duties and salary(100k) for the first month, and 120k the next month and subsequently. He started. The next day, he was sent to the market to go procure a few items needed for fumigation. According to him, his Boss(Director) didn't give him the money before he left the hotel, rather, he was told to go to the market and verify the prices of each item and move from shop to shop to ensure a proper bargain for all items before money could be sent. The long and short is, the Boss is very cruel, hostile, mean and highly inconsiderate. The hotel is less than a year, but the boss had changed four supervisors. My brother demanded to know his working hours and it became a problem. How can u employ someone and you want him to work 24/7 running up and down, not even a sleep at night is possible because my brother must Ensure that the hotel never has a blackout. There's inverter, NEPA and Gen. But he never allows Gen to be ON and he discourages the use of NEPA except to charge the inverters' batteries. There's energy Consumption report to be compiled and sent every morning, do room checks too, do technical jobs, supervise cleaning, ensure security of the hotel, etc . My brother said doing all these isn't the problem, but the insults to all his staff. He insults even management staff in the presence of their subordinates, the man is never satisfied with anyone. He doesn't even listen to the customers complaints . He doesn't avail my brother time to go home. No off days whatsoever. The man can call my brothers phone more than ten times in a day, no time he doesn't yell. My brother is now sick of malaria, yet, won't be allowed to rest. He has not asked him about his health for once. How can someone be working for you, and you can't give me a day off or tell him his closing time. My brother also cleans and maintains the swimming pool. The hotel has never had a manager. Most painful is, my brother has no place to sleep in that hotel. If he sees any free place at night, he will just sleep exposed to Cold and Mosquitoes. It's sad because if our parents were to be alive, this wouldn't be happening. My brother has emaciated so badly. Everyday he spends nothing less than 3k on feeding cos they don't feed him at the hotel |

We are experiencing a serious brain drain especially in the health sector . This is because many secondary school leavers who want to study Medicine and do not have the connection are being denied admissions to study their choice of course. Rather, they are given a different course. It is ONLY the rich man's child that gains admission to study Medicine. And when these rich men's children graduate, they run overseas for greener pastures in their field. |
