Yeah you read right, Nollwood marketers have banned actress Mercy Johnson
Okojie for being too expensive. Doesn't make sense does it? If someone's fees is
too high, the sensible thing to do would be to boycott them and use less expensive
actresses. Leave her to those who can afford her na, abi?
Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges
between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke
charge between N700k to N1.2million.
For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie
Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has
already signed up to do quite a number of movies. She returned on Thursday from
a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday.
She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will
be on another movie set...so she's basically booked till the end of the year.
The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban
won't take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie
marketers association will be placing a ban on actors. They did this a few years
ago when quite a number of Nollywood actors including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey
Noah, RMD, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke and others were blacklisted.

Some reports
have hit the the
internet that ace female comedian, Princess and her husband Adeshola

My sources tell me that, the growing baby bump isn’t so obvious because of

A group known
as Concerned
Independent Aviation Observers, CIAO, has said that there was budgetary
allocation for the purchase of two armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority, NCAA, which was approved by the National Assembly.
According to the group, the purchase of the controversial cars, which is now
a subject of the administrative panel of enquiry by the Federal Government,
followed due process as it was captured in the 2013 Capital Expenditure
budget of the NCAA approved by the National Assembly.
The group said the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Hope
Uzodima, and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkiruka
Onyejeocha, signed the NCAA’s capital expenditure, which contained the
request for the Operational Vehicles.
The National Coordinator of CIAO, Dr. Michael Aburime, in a statement
explained that the National Assembly approved the purchase of 25
operational vehicles for N240,000,000, out of which the controversial
armoured cars are only two.
Aburime said the armoured cars are not for the Aviation Minister par se, but
for the “operational and safety/security needs of NCAA, especially for
hosting international regulatory aviation officers on official visits to Nigeria.”
He also said that due to paucity of funds, the NCAA did not engage in
outright purchase of the vehicles like other government agencies but
adopted lease financing to procure 52 vehicles.
According to him, “the lease financing in the NCAA was financed by First
Bank Plc at monthly payment of N23,249,181. And for the 2013 expenditure,
about N116,245, 905 would be paid. From the brief detail above, it becomes
obvious that the NCAA did not actually pay such bogus amount of money
being alleged and bandied about in public discourse by uninformed people.
“In fact, the transaction NCAA entered into is N123,754,095 less than the
approved amount, as contained in ‘NCAA Capital Expenditure for 2013’.” He
argued that rather than being vilified, the NCAA should be commended for
demonstrating understanding of project financing and management.
“It is standard practice for public agencies like NCAA to purchase operational
and administrative vehicles. So, what the NCAA did is not something
exceptional. All public agencies do purchase operational vehicles and NCAA
has only done the statutory thing by following due process in getting the
National Assembly approval and making the process transparent by
spreading the payments over time through lease financing.”
Aburime said the lesson from the purported purchase scandal is for the
whole truth to come to the public glare. “We do not see any act of
impropriety in the NCAA car purchase that should warrant the volley of
indignation and vituperations that have erupted in the public space. NCAA is
also an important member of various global aviation associations whose
members do visit Nigeria periodically to verify and approve our civil aviation
standards,” he added.

In a case that has appalled France and investigators say “defies the imagination”,
a baby girl was forced to live hidden in the boot of her parents' car for almost two
years!
The tiny baby was found naked and feverish by mechanics who were carrying out
repairs on the family's Peugeot 307 car.
The mechanics were alerted to the child’s presence after hearing “strange noises
that sounded like moans” coming from the rear of the vehicle.
The mother, 45, a Portuguese woman known only as Rose-Marie, claimed that the
noise came from “toys”.
But the men insisted on opening the boot and were horrified to discover a small,
dehydrated and apparently feverish child lying naked in its own excrement.
The mechanic who found the girl, Guillaume Iguacel, said today he was still in
shock from the discovery. That the girl’s mother appeared to have little concern for
her daughter.
He said:
I’m still having trouble sleeping, it was a horrifying sight, seeing this little girl
in her own excrement, not able to hold up her head, white as a sheet.
We were deeply shocked because she (the girl's mother) didn’t find this
abnormal. We told her to remove the little girl (from the boot) and give her
something to drink right away.
Paramedics were called and the little child was immediately taken to hospital.
The mother told investigators that she had kept the child’s existence from her
husband, an unemployed builder, also Portuguese, who police were unable to
question straight away given his drunken state.
The mother said she gave birth alone then hid the baby in the boot. It has no birth
certificate and apparently no name.
“It appears the child had been hidden from her birth, and even worse is seriously
retarded,” said Jean-Pierre Laffite, the prosecutor in nearby Brive-La-Gaillarde.
He said the girl’s height, weight and mental development didn’t conform to her
age, estimated to be between 15 and 23 months. She cannot speak a word.
“It’s a situation that defies the imagination,” he added.
The little child's parents have been charged with child abuse and neglect, and
social services have taken into care their three other children - a four-year-old girl
and two boys aged nine and 10.
The couple, who remain under strict judicial supervision, face a maximum ten-year
prison terms if convicted.
As to the motive for hiding the baby, a judicial source said: “(The mother) provided
none. That remains the big mystery.”

The Senate has defended the N150 billion annual budget of the National
Assembly, saying the amount was not out of place for the country’s
legislative body.
It explained
that the said
amount was for all staff of the National Assembly, the Legislative Institute,
National Assembly Service Commission as well as capital projects, contrary
to public insinuation that the amount was only for the national legislators.
The legislators made the explanation following public outcry that the ‘jumbo
pay’ to the legislature alone was affecting the resources of the country.
Meantime, the National Assembly has unveiled the logo for the 1st African
Legislative Summit, 2013 which is expected to bring together participants
from many countries around the world, particularly Africa including officials
at the executive branch of government within the continent.
The National Assembly through the National Institute for Legislative Studies,
NILS, would be hosting the Summit from November 10-13, 2013.
The summit is expected to provide an avenue for legislators and
stakeholders across the continent to deliberate on current issues and
developments relating to the effective functioning of African parliaments,
national economies and democratic governance.
President of the Summit and Nigeria Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba at
the ceremony of the unveiling of the logo exonerated the National Assembly
from alleged national waste.
Ndoma-Egba while answering questions from journalists that the nation’s
federal legislature had become expensive, said NASS annual budget of N150
billion cannot be held responsible for the wastage.
According to him, the N150 billion, which represents three per cent of the
annual national budget, was infinitesimal to the remaining 97 per cent of the
total budget of the country.
He said, contrary to the general impression, the N150bn budget was not
meant for the salary and allowances of the legislators alone but included
that of other institutions within the National Assembly.
The institutions, he disclosed, included the staff of the National Assembly
Service Commission, the staff and management of the National Institute for
Legislative Studies (NILS) and legislative aides of the lawmakers as well as
that of the medical staff attached to the National Assembly.
Senate President David Mark who unveiled the logo corroborated the Senate
Leader as he said under-staffing was one of the problems hampering
effective and efficient legislative business in the National Assembly.
In his speech at the event, he said emerging legislatures were under
significant stresses which were becoming hindrances to efforts to exercise
greater influence over government policies and hampering an effective
performance of their oversight responsibilities.
He said these included “contextual issues such as underdevelopment,
executive interference in some cases and also staff and resources deficit as
managers and staff of parliaments struggle to meet the growing demands
placed on them.”
The National Assembly’s N150bn represents three percent of the nation’s
annual budget of N4.8 trillion.

THE PAINS AND GAINS…

There was a minor accident on Friday at the Murtala Muhammed International
Airport in Lagos, involving a Turkish Airline aircraft and a Max Air plane. The
Turkish Airline plane wings collided with that of Max Air plane which had brought
in Pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.
The collision, according to sources on group, resulted in minor damages to both
airplanes and have thus been been taken away for repairs.
It was learnt that the Turkish Airplane had landed safely but was taxiing to stop at
the airport’s apron when its wing collided with that of Max Air, resulting in the
incident.
Spokesman, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Fan Ndubuoke, confirmed the
incident. He however said damages to the aircraft belonging to both airlines were
minor and that both planes had been taken away.
