The fast-spreading coronavirus could spell the end for the weakest airlines as travel demand dries up in and out of China.

The outbreak, which originated in the Chinese city Wuhan, has claimed 170 lives. Total infections have soared past 7,700 in China, surpassing the country’s official number from the 2003 SARS epidemic.

SARS cost the global economy an estimated $40 billion in just six months and led to a 45per cent plunge in traffic for Asia-Pacific carriers in April that year.

The Ogun State Government has confirmed a case of Lassa fever in the state, with a firm assurance that all is being done to contain it. In a press release by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, the suspected Lassa fever case was confirmed by the Ogun State Virology Laboratory on January 24, 2020.

According to Dr Coker, the patient is a pregnant 29 year- old who took ill and was referred to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta. However, contrary to some reports circulating in the media; the Commissioner noted that; “the patient is not dead as she was transferred to the Federal Specialist Hospital in Irua, Edo State, whose facilities provide the patient with the full benefit of multidisciplinary care required for her due to her pregnancy.”

Tokunbo Lekan who reportedly broke into Anglican Church of Triumphant located at Obadiah Craig Street, Falola in Ipaja area of Lagos state to steal from the church, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police.

The suspect who stole a power generating set, electric wire, welding machine and other items worth about N400,000 from the church, said he was trained as a mechanic but abandoned the job to concentrate on stealing from churches as it wasn’t paying his bills.

Donatus Nwankpa, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chairman in Abia State, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC), conduct of Aba South Local Government Area (LGA), of Abia State re-run election.

Nwankpa made the commendation while monitoring elections at the Umuogele Primary School, Aba South, on Saturday.

“The exercise so far, from the places we visited, is peaceful and we are also impressed with the turnout.

“We are looking forward to a peaceful conclusion, just as the beginning was peaceful.

“Our agents are not complaining, unless something changes, you can see the level of security here, I am impressed,” he said.

Mr Emeka Nwogu, former Minister of Labour, also described the election as peaceful.

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom State said it will not participate in the re-run election scheduled for Saturday. In a press conference on Friday in Uyo, State Chairman of the APC, Mr Ini Okopido said the party has withdrawn from the re-run election in Essien Udim local government area as it was dissatisfied with the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the state.

Okopido said both Senator Godswill Akpabio whose candidacy has been replaced with Emem Ekperkpe for the Senatorial District election and Nse Ntuen for Essien Udim State Constituency will not participate in the elections. He said the party has instituted a court process against INEC for failing to affirm the election of Nse Ntuen as the member representing Essien Udim in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

"We have officially as a party withdrawn from the rerun elections in Essien Udim local government area. We are so dissatisfied with the conduct of INEC in Akwa Ibom State and we have withdrawn from the elections.

“As far as we are concerned, Igini has shown unprecedented bias against APC. We know he does not like APC in Akwa Ibom State and if he conducts any election in Akwa Ibom, the party will withdraw. Igini has not been fair to us as a state,” he said. Barrister Mike Igini, a former activist is the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom. Meanwhile the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom has accused the Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio of perfecting plans to rig the state and National Assembly rerun elections on Saturday. National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem said in Uyo that Akpabio was planning to replicate the ‘Warsaw’ violence he meted out during the last election. Enoidem, who is also the chairman of the PDP election committee for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, said, ” the ancient English proverb fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me will be put to test during the forthcoming court ordered rerun in Essien Udim Local Government Area”.

It was reported earlier this week, with a sad story of how Billionaire businessman, Late Ignatius Odunukwe was murdered, the headline which was trending on social media, investigations is ongoing and the killers who have already been arrested have given details on why they did the killing.
Based on reports, when the Odunukwe opened a real estate discussion with Danie Ibeaji late in 2019, the intention was to make it a profitable venture for both parties.

Little did Mr. Odunukwe know that the deal would have led to his dismissal.

US Government agency website has been hacked by a group claiming to be from Iran, days after General Qasssen Soleimani was killed in an airstrike by a US airstrike which was ordered by the President Donald Trump.

The group left a photo which was written, ‘Iran Cyber Security Group Hackers’, who vowed to revenge the death of the General Soleimani, they hacked the site and replaced it with a page titled “Iranian Hackers!” on Saturday January 4.

According to the image, US president Donald Trump was being punched in the face, along with a message “martyrdom was [Soleimani’s]. reward for years of implacable efforts,” with another caption “this is only small part of iran’s cyber ability!” all this was displayed on the website.
