Phantom, I just went through the link. Infact, i read through every comment there! I can imagine how much time you have spent collating those images. You did a good job. I would not engage in my planned expose for Nairalanders anymore. For my other future work, i beg you to send me the images you have so i can build on it. Please, you can mail them to egbudu2007@yahoo.com when you get a chance. It may make sense to add that they are just part of what port harcourt has seen so far. The other local governments are getting their fair share too. So your pictures are that of a regular PH guy trying to back up his point. You may wish to save your breath and not engage in excessive verbal fisticuffs with the doubting thomases created by our corrupt leaders in these past dark years. Truly, those past officials have succeeded in cementing into their hearts and minds, that nothing good can come out from us as a nation. I completely understand their initial reactions to your posts. Like you know, most of these guys are in the diaspora and have not visited in a long while. The fact still remains that whether they believe or not, the work continues. You and I are on the ground as first hand beneficiaries. Do we really need to convince people that our town is been transformed? As for me, it should be: take it or leave it. No friction. More grease to your elbow. Cheers Nat |
Guys, I really appreciate the engagements. I guess we have learnt how to vent our frustrations without declining into personal attacks. It is good we understand that it is only in polite discourse that we can learn and get better. Omonuan, I see. Good to know you hide in Denver. I love Denver! I love the Denver Broncos, i am a good fan. I still dream of going back there someday though i am terrified of driving on the snowy mountains in winter. I also dream of another thing which you already have here: owning hostels in Choba! Man, what a money spinner! I actually have a home in Port Harcourt and i currently run a programme in UNIPORT. Yes, we may live to do business together, someday. I smell you are getting close to coming home! Cheers Nat |
Kobikwelu, I understand your point and you are right. I don't also buy the idea of using pictures of Elf village or the like to impress on the people. A colorful compound or even a tidy road does not translate to performance from a government that sees several billions of naira every month. I can make my abode look just like the one in the picture. But i also understand that pictures can make a lot of difference in shaping the opinion of nigerians especially in the diaspora. The problem is: you damn well have to take a few weeks off to collate enough pictures if you desire to do justice to Amaechi's achievement in this past 3 years. Actually, i never gave him a chance. I bet something somewhat subliminal had happened to this guy after the fell out with his predecessor. Whatever that thing is, I pray God would sustain that in the interest of the people! Now that this issue has come to the front burner, i just hope i make out time in the next coupla weeks to do a sort of expose on the turnaround going on in Rivers State. Cheers Nat |
dont mind them,Guy, i live in port harcourt and it is obvious you are not anywhere close to that city. Otherwise, i find it unbelievable that any just person can put the massive transformation going on in Rivers state (not just port harcourt) side by side with Odili's 8 yrs combined and not heave a sigh of relief. I am not in the habit of singing praises for officials elected to do their jobs but i can truly tell you that even Amaechi's adversaries cannot take it from him- He is a good hand for the job. I understand that the pathetic situation in the past could have led you to making up your mind that our elected officials are all a bunch of no-gooders. That is why you need proofs and proofs. Why not come around PH one of these days and see for yourself. I do not need to see pictures of Elf village or any other to feel good about PH. I only need to remember the past 8yrs prior to this administration and what i went through in terms of roads, security, education etc. Let's not just sit out there in the diaspora and think things can't work here. We might be slow, but we will get there. Amaechi's is just a prelude. Cheers Nat |
Most of us have had these experiences. I had once thought: if you don't want these ''beggars'' continuing in this trade, don't give. Problem is: they will invent some other lazy ways to get you. We just hope our society reforms and there are jobs for everybody such that begging will go back to a thing of shame. Ok, my major conern is with the employed beggars we see every day. From the Mr Biggs' door man to the customs/immigration officials at the airport. Like one poster said, these guys have a way of making you feel ''guilty'' if you don't part with some dough. Now we can do something about these groups. Simply make up your mind not to dash out any money to any of these paid workers if they beg for it. You can give freely when they don't beg, fi you want. It is not just annoying, it paints a terrible picture about our society. Everywhere you go, foreigners remind you of this with one nigerian episode of ''oga dash us something na'' or another. It pains me to the marrow. Elsewhere in most developed and not so developed societies, people hold their heads high no matter how low their pay is. It gives you this feeling of a secured society. Tips are tips and not coersive begging! Naija, make we no dey fall our hand na!!!!!!!!! Yes, it can form part of the Prof. Akunyili's reform agenda. Put up posters screaming ''No fall our hand- begging na shame!'' on all the noted facilities where these acts take place and we will adjust. Cheers Nat |
Guy, I'll holler at ya soon. Interested. Nat |
Guy, Please, attach some pictures and give an asking price. That way, you will attract a lot of response. PH agents and property people need to spec up their game a lot more. |
People buy property for various reasons. For that price and to certain investors the property inquestion is a "steal".The condition of a house is irrelevant in some cases a dilapidated house in downtown Los Angeles will cost more than an equivalent well built house in Fort Bend county Houston. The value of a property is determined by economic factors regardless of whether the property is in Europe or Bangladesh. The is nothing Nigerian about demand and supply if you like build the equvalent of Buckingham palace in your village it will not be more valuable than a flat at 1004 estate in Lagos.Right on the money! Omonuan, Need i say more? The only misconception i would rather like to correct had been aptly dealt with by the poster quoted above. In the property business, there is, per se, nothing like over-valuation. I will quote you: , the house is over valued simply because the house is Askoro Nigeria. You see, ''simply because the house is in Asokoro'' is the driver and determinant of the price. The same point CHANCEMAN alluded to. Let me deal you another angle to this argument. This property has an empty plot of relatively same size and directly facing it. It was just sold for 150 million naira. The offers ''trickling in'' are in the neighborhood of 200 million naira. Now you know why? Honestly, i understand your outrage. I used to think that way about properties before i got ''enlightened''. You probably stay in America. I once worked in the Rocky mountain area of Casper Wyoming and I also once ''jollofed'' in the New York area. The property price regime between the two areas once made me react exactly like you did. But like i said, i got ''enlightened''. Now i beg you to follow suit, albeit on a lighter note! Going! Going! |
Dear Omonuan, You sure are entitled to your opinion-whatever your concern may be. Let us leave valuations for the people pulling the strings. They cost and buy such houses themselves. Leave the common man out of this, it didn't start with this house o! You probably are thinking: 200K dollars will get me a nicer house in a nicer environ in say, Houston or Fairfax or elsewhere in the US but guy, dis na naija and dat house na Asokoro e dey! Little wonder i already have juicy offers trickling in? As per the interlocking, i agree it was a bad job. I noted it to the owner. The property was built and left unused for like 5 years. Some element of degradation had set in and we are dealing the buyer a sizeable chunk to enable good repairs. Going! Going! |
Sultan007, Na exactly where you say the Ozuoba plot dey? How far from the road? I am interested. |
