This call has been made by a group operating under the Science for Impact Initiative. The organisation announced this in a statement headlined "Recurrent ASUU strike: A preventable calamity" on Wednesday, noting that the organization's ongoing strikes have slowed Nigeria's educational advancement and made life challenging for both students and their parents. On February 12, 2022, the ASUU began a warning exercise that turned into a strike. As of this writing, the strike is in its fifth month, and the union has not changed its stance regarding its demands of the government. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State made it clear that he was not interested in running as the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the general election of 2023, according to Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State. State-level PDP chapters have rejected requests from supporters of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to fire party National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu due to a developing crisis within the party. They claimed that asking Ayu to resign would harm the party's chances of winning the 2023 presidential election. The pro-Wike camp had accused Ayu of supporting the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who allegedly did not follow democratic procedures in choosing his running mate. The pro-Wike camp had been incensed by the loss of the vice-presidential position to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa. On Friday, the South East Asia Chapter of the Nigerian Youths Movement Diaspora Organization pleaded with Nigerians, particularly the youth, to back Peter Obi for president of the Labour Party in order to fulfill their aspiration of restoring the nation to its former glory. Obi appears to be the ideal candidate to bring about sustainable development needed to take Nigeria out of her current pitiful and unfathomable condition, according to NYMDO Coordinator Kingsley Nwankwo, who urged Nigerians to back Obi in his effort to save the nation from its dire predicament. In a statement headed "The sound of 2023 trumpet: Nigerians in Asia back Peter Obi's presidential ambition," Nwankwo said that the socio-economic organization has been leading the struggle for good governance in Nigeria and Africa generally.
