Eze does not mean King. That is purely British mistranslation. There is no concept of King or Monarch in Igbo world view. A King owns land, and owns territory and the subjects. This does not exist anywhere in Igbo land, not even the Obi of Onitsha.

No Igwe, or Eze or Obi in Igboland owns the territory over which hus Community sprawls the way you have among Yorubas, Hausa or Benin. As such, in all technicality, Eze in Igboland means Leader, Elite, or a Feudal Lord. Not a King.
