HealthHelp For Frail Elderly People by Neeuage(op): 2:26pm On Jul 25, 2019
The sick and frail elderly people deserves care. There are many blessings associated with doing this as many caregivers have testified; the prayers of the aged, feeling of living a fulfilled life all contributed to the positive effect on caregivers. The main duty of a caregiver is to make daily living comfortable for the aged.

However, not everybody could provide adequate care; some people have been trained to do the job.

So anytime you discover frail elderly around you please get in touch with trained caregivers.

Aging in Nigeria is a big challenge. There is no free medical support by the government for frail elderly people probably due to the lack of economic capacity to do so.

Since inception in 2016, Nuage Care Services has identified means to make life better for the elderly people, especially in the rural and less developed cities in the south western part of the country; ranging from training of Caregivers, social care workers, offering 12hrs and 24hrs care services.

We are looking for like-minded organizations, kindly advice if there is any way you could collaborate for a mutual and progressive working relationship.

HealthNursing Home / Home Based Care by Neeuage(op): 4:18pm On Mar 29, 2019
Let me assume that you have an elderly and dependent parent. You are not living in Nigeria or perhaps you live here but you are working. You might consider a Nursing home to enable you cope with other pressing demands and your daily routine.

However, have you considered the psychological effect on your parent, research has shown that some elderly people get depressed and as a result lack improvement health-wise from the day 1 they get to the Nursing Home. In this part of the world, it is believed that Parents took care of you when you were young, so you should take care of them when they become older.

It is based on this critical background that Nuage Care Services is established. Care givers are trained with the City & Guilds Curriculum to live with frail loved parents so as to support and keep them lively.

The elderly people enjoy the company of family member and relatives much more better than any other place.

HealthWhy Do I Pee So Much At Night???? by Neeuage(op): 3:48pm On Oct 19, 2018
Why Do I Pee So Much at Night?
Does your bladder nag you out of bed overnight? If you have to go to the bathroom more than once during 6-8 hours of zzz's, you might have nocturia.

Your body may make too much urine, or your bladder can’t hold enough. Sometimes it's both.
There are many possible causes. Some need medical treatment, others you can manage on your own.

Could It Be What I’m Drinking?
You may just be drinking too much or too close to bedtime. Drink less several hours before you go to sleep. Don’t have alcohol or caffeine late in the day. And be sure to use the bathroom before you go to bed.

Could It Be an Infection?
A urinary tract infection (UTI) triggers a need to pee more during the day and at night. It may hurt when you pee, your stomach may ache, and you might have a fever. Your doctor can diagnose and treat a UTI.

Could My Age Make a Difference?
The older you are, the more likely you are to need to pee at night.
As you age, your body produces less of a hormone that helps concentrate urine so that you can hold it until the morning.
When you're older you're also more likely to have other health problems that make you need to pee overnight. Your gender can play a role, too:
Men: An enlarged prostate is common when you're an older guy. It usually isn’t serious, but it can keep you from emptying your bladder.
Women: After menopause, you make less estrogen. That can cause changes in the urinary tract that make you have to go more often. If you’ve had children, the muscles in your pelvis may be weaker, too.

Could It Be My Medicine?
Some medicines pull fluid out of your system and make you pee more. Ask your doctor if any of your meds do this. You might solve the problem by taking them earlier in the day, or the doctor may be able to change your medication.

Could It Be a Sleep Problem?
Sometimes it’s not the urge to pee that wakes you -- but once you’re up, you need to go. That can happen if you have restless legs syndrome, hot flashes, ongoing (chronic) pain, or depression. There’s also a connection between sleep apnea and having to go at night.
Treating the sleep disorder usually solves the nighttime peeing problem, too.

Could It Have Anything to Do With My Heart?
When your ticker doesn’t pump the way it should, fluid builds up. You’ll notice this especially in your ankles.
When you lie down, your body flushes out the extra fluid. That fills your bladder and wakes you up.
You might help control the swelling by resting with your feet up during the day, or by wearing compression socks.

Could It Be Something Else?
See a doctor if you've tried to control the problem but it's not getting better. Other medical issues can cause your bladder to hold less than it should. These include:
Bladder tumor
Prostate tumor
Overactive bladder
Interstitial cystitis
Pregnancy
Obesity
Conditions that can cause your body to make too much urine includes:
Diabetes
Diabetes insipidus
Liver failure
Neurologic diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
If you have an underlying health issue and you get it treated, that may stop the nighttime peeing problem. But you may need medication to help with that, too.

Do I Need to See a Doctor?
Getting up in the night to pee can give you problems during the day, like lack of concentration or other health problems. When you're older, nocturia also raises your chances of falling and breaking a hip.

How Do I Prepare for My Visit?
Keep a diary of what you drink, and when and how much you pee.
Your doctor will want to know:
How you’re sleeping
Whether you feel tired during the day
What medications you take
Any other symptoms you have

Nairaland GeneralHow To Care For The Elderly by Neeuage(op): 11:02am On Apr 05, 2017
The most important part of caring for the elderly is to love them and keep them active. There are many different ways to care for the elderly, whether by caring for them in the comfort of their own homes, bringing them to your home or moving them to a senior center. With time and a little hard work you can properly care for your loved one by following a few steps.
Plan Ahead. Many children will eventually need to provide care for their parents. Planning ahead can help solve some of the issues before the situation becomes a last-minute emergency (for example caused by sudden illness or injury). Use technology, make the home safe for elderly people and anticipate the expenses of providing care in advance

Keep your loved one active. Exercise can help protect older people from disease and reduce their functional age by 10 or 15 years. It can even result in big health benefits for those who have been sedentary for many years. It can delay the need for care and keep them away from disease for longer.

Keep an eye on their physical and mental health. If he/she has pains or medical issues, tell them to see (or take them) to a doctor. If the pains/medical issues are severe enough, it is imperative that you call a hospital and see what they can do for him/her right away. Watch for signs of weakness, extra forgetfulness, lack of direction or other unsteadiness.

Speak to your loved one's pharmacist. The elderly may be prescribed different drugs by different doctors and only the pharmacist will know all the medications your loved one is taking. Make friends with them and speak to them regarding possible side effects and interactions.

Get help with driving. The idea of stopping driving can cause a lot of anger and resentment for an elderly person. Remember that being able to drive is an important component of maintaining independence and it can be difficult to accept that they are no longer fit.
• Sometimes classes are offered for elderly drivers that may result in car insurance discounts.
• There are tools that aid the elderly with driving, such as by assisting an arthritic wrist in turning the key in the ignition

Consider a home caregiver to help the elderly person. This will solve the physical difficulties of caring for your loved one. A home caregiver can help the person accomplish whatever they need and take a lot of the burden off of the family members. They can also help the elderly person maintain some independence by keeping them in their homes

HealthHome Based Elderly Care by Neeuage(op): 11:53am On Nov 25, 2016
Nuage Care Services is a new innovation in home based health and social care service in collaboration with City & Guilds of London Institute’s program centre.

You will enjoy proactive home care services that are focused on the needs of your aged parents. Our elder care services are designed to put you in control. We don't dictate your schedule or try to adjust your habits to meet our needs. Instead, our job as caregivers is to adjust to your routine

Types of Care
When you call Nuage office for support at home, our Lead Care Giver/Assessor pays you visit for the following reasons:
· To carry out your needs assessment and discuss modus operandi with you and your next of kin or your doctor
· To discuss our flexible charges and recommend the type of care suitable for you
· To develop your personal care plan and inform you about our feedback procedures

At the conclusion of the meeting, Nuage staff is deployed to meet your demands without any delay

12hrs Care: Our staff resumes in your home 8:00 and close 17:00 from Monday to Friday. This type of care is available for elderly, young, sick and hospital discharged persons who require non-medical support at home such as; laundry, shopping, reminder for hospital appointments, cooking, bed making, bed bath, companionship, reminder for medications and mobility recovery exercise.

24hrs Care: Two or more Nuage staff is involved in this type of care. Our staffs take care of non-medical needs of client at every time. In a 24hrs care; Client is either Dependent or Independent depending on the severity of needs assessed. Dependent clients often are confined in bed, incontinent and fairly conscious, while independent are not.

In-patient Care: Demands of combining work and staying with loved ones in hospital admission can be very stressful; Nuage takes the place of relatives to provide services such as; bed bath, bed making, errands, bills payment, family spokesperson, feeding and reminders.

HealthElderly Care by Neeuage(op):
Nigerian Government has not done much for the senior citizens. The Federal, State and Municipal governments are responsible for taking care of the health and social needs of the elderly people, especially those who have served and paid tax during their active years in advanced countries.

Almost all tribes in Nigeria is of the ideology that the children should take care of their parents when they grow old, however, our present state no longer encourage culture and tradition as everyone want to move to the cities, engage in a white collar job and live in a modern society.

My argument therefore is that government should promote programs that will enable elderly people to have access to Care while living in their own home instead of dumping them in a nursing home.

We have many International examination bodies that train "Elderly Care Givers" among them is the City & Guilds of London Institute UK with centres in Lagos, Ibadan and other states across Nigeria.

Our Government should create a program that will employ these qualified Care Givers for the purpose of taking care of the senior citizens who might require support in their own home to enjoy old age.

I welcome any support towards making this a reality in Nigeria!
