battoyyeb:

Actually I did mine like that
They gave me transcript in school. So I put the transcript and statement of result photocopy inside one envelope and I sent it using my school name.

Anyhow you do it they will still verify your document from your school
Education / Re: Am Having Issues With Wes by NeeYoh(m): 6:50pm On Feb 27, 2018
I'm not sure if WES allow students to send the transcript themselves.
battoyyeb:

If you can try and collect the transcript from both school, put it inside one envelope with your certificate and send it yourself.

I think that is the best option to save cost.
My thinking though...

What I did was scan my original degree certificate in black and white and made sure that the file size was less than 200kb. You shouldn't send your original certificate as it may not be returned.
Enasdan:
was photocopy of your Degree certificate accepted by WES when you sent it via fax? does WES accept photocopy of Degree certificate sent to them via fax?

Mend007:
Hello all,

I am a silent follower of this thread, and I have been following ever since. I have learnt alot from the transcripts posted here.

My visa application was delayed in Lagos on the 13th of December by the guy in Window 5 . Refired again iin Lagos and was granted on the 29th December by the guy in Window 8. Below is my transcript:

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning. Compliments of the season.
VO: Compliments to you too. Hand me your passport and i20
Me: Here they are
VO: (starts to type very fast) Oh! You were here some weeks ago, but denied?
Me: Yes, I was. (With a mild smile)
VO: So what has changed? (He looks at me intently)
Me: (starts to smile and looking at him too) Well, the last time, I felt I wasn't confident enough just because I was nervous, and I was not speaking clearly, but today I believe I am well prepared, and I have built my confidence level.
VO: (starts to type) Oh, that's good. So why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going to the US to persue a masters programme in Law with a concentration in Business Law at the University of Oregon, Eugene.
VO: (Continues typing) How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I applied to 3 schools. The university of Oregon, Case Western Reserve University and the University of Denver.
VO: (still typing) How many admitted you?
Me: Oregon and Case Western Reserve with scholarships.
VO (stops typing. Looks at me) I can see in your i20 that you'd be offering American Law as a compulsory course, so what's the relevance of that to Nigerian law?
Me: (smiles.) Thank you! (VO smiles back) Well, most business law cases that have been decided in Nigeria first got their principles from decided cases in the US. So I believe studying business law at the masters level in the US will give me that global view and that knowledge of current trends so that when I come back to Nigeria, I will be able to advise businesses and business owners on how to go about their commercial transactions within the purview of the law.
VO: (still looking at me with rapt attention) So what do you do?
Me: (Still smiling) I am an associate solicitor at a corporate/commercial law firm here in Lagos. Told him my job description.
VO: (now typing) how many are you in your office?
Me: we are just 6.
VO: (now looking at my i20) Were you offered any scholarship?
Me: Yes I was. I was offered a partial scholarship by the University of Oregon.
VO: (now looking at me) You know why you were offered? Did you take any test?
Me: No, I did not take any test. I was informed by the uni that the test was waived for me and that the scholarship was solely based on my professional and academic records.
VO: So who's paying for the rest?
Me: my dad.
VO: What does he do?
Me: He is a real estate developer and also has a construction company.
VO: Do you have a bank statement here?
Me: Yes I do
VO: Let me take a look
Me: (hands over the BS to him) here it is
VO: (Takes his time. Checks BS line by line. Types something on his system. Gives it to me back) Are you married?
Me: No sir
VO: Any Children?
Me: No sir
VO: (contines typing very fast. In my mind, I was like God these questions are too much. I don't wanna go home with my passport.) So, I will be issuing your visa. He gives me my i20 and says I will need it at the point of entry.
Me: oh fantastic. Thank you very much and have a great day.

In all, prepare well, cover all loopholes, know stuff about your programme by heart, be confident, smile and look at the VO''s face. Don't be too serious. The VO is human too. Above all, pray to God. Fast too, if you can.

God bless you all.

Congrats

VO: I can see you are going for a masters degree at New Mexico Highlands University?
Me: Yes
VO: Whats your major
Me: Environmental Geology
VO: Why New Mexico Highlands University?
Me: I choosed NMHU because it offers me a new dimension to my current research, i have an ongoing research on Transport Mechanism of ground water contaminant within aquifers in Niger Delta, the school incorporate a geospatial application into the study of environmental geology and the school also own a geospatial research laboratory which.....(vo cuts in)
VO: What will this degree do for you?
Me: Last year at the World Economic forum, Nigeria ranked 133 out of 180 countries in terms of Enviromental performance index. This programme would equip me with the right skill to improve Nigeria's Environmental Performance Index.(VO cuts in)
VO: When did you finish your first degree and which school did you attend?
Me: 2015, University of Port Harcourt
VO: Did you write any exam?
Me; Yes, I wrote TOEFL, GRE was waived.
VO: Who is your sponsor?
Me; My dad
VO: Can i have his SOA and what is he into?
Me: (Passes the SOA).... He imports fish from Norway
VO: (got a bit relaxed, starts looking vividly at the SOA) what type of fish?
Me: He imports tilapia, scrumbia, titus fish and all sort of fish.
VO: But a lot of people here like smoked fish?
Me: Yes, they smoke the imported fish too
VO: (Closed the passage between us,left with the SOA) I'll be right back, he left for about 3-mins. As soon as he came back....He returned the SOA and said i'll be approving your visa, circled my pick up location, gave me the white slip and kept my internationa passport.

As Twood always say, be specific about your study plans and intention, make the interview all about yourself.
Thanks to everyone that i learnt from on this forum, God bless you all. I still think there is need to reiterate that the place of prayer can not be overemphasized , be confident and be consistent when answering questions. Also ensure you fill your ds160 by yourself , please.
Congrats bro.

From my experience. about a week from when WES update your profile to awaiting verification from your school, you should notify your school about verifying your transcript. It's also better and faster if you have someone on the inside say an assistant registral. It will make it easy since you close to the deadline and verification may require you paying to your school again.
Hope this helps.

I just received an email from WES today 31, August 2017 about the Completed Evaluation of my academic transcript which has also been sent to the selected schools. So I guess it took like 2+ weeks for my undergraduate university to verify( A notification was sent to me by WES on 01,August 2017 stating that they already sent my transcript to my university for verification).

@NeeYoh, referring the bolded statement above, is it compulsory to have the document in black and white? Reason I am asking is because I already have a scanned copy of my degree certificate(coloured) and I intend to just upload it and send to WES through free fax services online. Please guide me with your knowledge.

2. Also, how do I include my WES Reference number with the degree certificate using the fax route?
3. Assuming I made a photocopy of my certificate, is it advisable and acceptable to use a pen to write my WES Reference boldly on it?
4. Would it be sufficient to type my Reference No in the the "Fax message" column.

Thanks for your time.

@manlikegb Anwering your questions:
1. The fax service requires that you upload a black and white scanned copy (based on the fax app I used). So you need to re-scan your degree certificate in black and white.
2. You can rename your scanned degree certificate photocopy as YOUR_NAME_WES_REF_NO (this was what I did).
3. I personally would not advise you write your WES Reference No on the photocopy.
4. Yes, you should also include your WES Reference No in the fax message short note.

You should receive an update say in about 1-2 days about your degree certificate being received and accepted by WES.

@Neeyoh

I assume you have gone through WES verification process which they do by sending duplicate copies of the documents they received back to the issuing school to verify and confirm the authenticity.
Please from your experience, it takes how many
days/weeks for the regular hardcopy mail (request for verification) from WES to be received in Nigeria?
Any idea if WES makes use of Courier services 'speed post' or the ordinary snail mailing?

Thank you in anticipation

No, I haven't. I am waiting for my school to send the transcript hopefully this week or next.

FYI: You can send your Degree certificate photocopy via fax to WES (No need for courier or Postal service). It's easier and economical also. Just download a fax app from Google playstore or Apple app store, buy credit units for sending fax document, get WES fax no from wes.org, include your WES Ref no in the cover note and document. Make sure the document is in black and white NOT coloured and less than 20mb. After sending the document, your document should be received and accepted by WES latest the following day.

You can try HelloFax app for Android, I haven't used it though but a friend confirmed it worked for her even with a coloured scan

Business / Re: Save Your Energy Cost And Go Solar!! by NeeYoh(m): 11:21am On Apr 07, 2017
So true. With Energy Saving LED Bulbs, electricity used up in Homes can be reduced thereby saving you money on Electric Bills. Go Solar
draypizzy:
How to save energy costs

Eliminate or significantly reduce your electric bill with solar energy

One of the biggest reasons to go solar is that you can eliminate or significantly reduce your electric bill.

An average monthly electric bill of #50,000 becomes an annual #600,000 expense. Over 20 years, that same #50,000 monthly bill balloons to #12,000,000 paid to your utility, and that’s before factoring in electricity rate increases that will likely make your 20-year energy costs even higher.

Installing a solar panel system at your home or business takes you out of this cycle.
Going solar can eliminate your electric bill completely or reduce it so dramatically that electricity costs are no longer a significant factor in your budget.

Your savings with solar depend on a few different factors, like how much energy your system produces and how much you consume, but the biggest factor is the rates you would otherwise pay to your utility.

Because your savings are equal to the costs you avoid by going solar, you’ll save even more if electricity rates are high in your area.

And, since electricity prices will continue to rise, your savings will continue to grow every year over the 25+ year lifespan of your solar panel system.

Reducing one of your largest monthly expenses makes perfect sense, but the benefits of solar aren’t just economic.

Because electricity prices can be unpredictable, they make managing your budget difficult. By installing a solar panel system, you also fix your electricity costs and make them more predictable.

This is especially beneficial for anyone with a fixed income, as well as for businesses who stand to gain from a more stable cash flow.

When you make your electricity costs more predictable by going solar, you also improve your expense forecasting and management capabilities.

Webmasters / How To Fix Corrupt SD Memory Cards by NeeYoh(m): 2:04pm On Jun 27, 2016
Your SD Card got corrupt? Sorry to hear that. It's sad when we loose pictures or videos of wonderful moments just because your SD got corrupt and you're unable to fix it. Well, worry less! Here are Easy ways to fix your Corrupt SD Card.

A chip in:
Memory cards have a limited number of lifespan, for example, a flash card unit has approximately 10,000 write/erase operations, due to which after certain cycles the chances of corruption increases. Therefore, it is better not to use SD card that has been used frequently for several year.
Ok, now to the Fix.
Fix 1: Try to connect your SD card to another device, as sometime, few SD cards may not be compatible to certain devices.

Fix 2: Insert the affected card into a card reader and connect it to your system. Click on the "Start" menu from your Windows taskbar and then select the "Computer" option. Search for your SD card under "Devices with Removable Storage" and note the drive letter assigned.
Next, click the "Start" option again and type "cmd" in the "search" box. Right-click "cmd" and then select the "Run as administrator" option. A command window opens and you can fix your corrupt memory card from here.Next, type "chkdsk" followed by the drive letter corresponding to the SD card, then by a colon and /f. After you press "enter", the Chkdsk will check for possible errors and try to fix the corrupt SD card. Follow the subsequent message prompts. Lastly, check your assigned drive letter to your SD card to verify if the files are recovered or not.

Fix 3: Connect your SD card to a card reader to the system, if your system doesn't assign a new drive letter to it, then it isn't reading it. In some cases, the reader might be assigned a drive letter, but still you get the message "Please insert the disk into drive E:" indicating that it isn't reading the card. To resolve this problem assign a new drive letter to this connected card through your operating system (OS) settings.
