Throughout the New Testament, three spiritual virtues appear repeatedly as the foundation of the Christian life: faith, hope, and love. These three qualities are so important that the Apostle Paul concludes one of the greatest chapters in Scripture by declaring:

"And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." — 1 Corinthians 13:13 (KJV)

The word "charity" in the King James Version refers to love—God's selfless, sacrificial kind of love.

Although faith, hope, and love are often mentioned together, they are not the same. Each has a unique purpose in the believer's relationship with God. Faith connects us to God, hope gives us confidence in His future promises, and love becomes the visible evidence that Christ lives within us. Together, these three virtues strengthen the Christian walk and enable believers to remain steadfast in every season of life.

One of the most discussed passages in the New Testament is found in the Epistle of James, where the apostle boldly declares:
