Certifying a civilian aviation platform is much difficult that it's military counterpart. It is much more demanding and extensive.

Some takeaways on missiles

1. QRSAM has completed its development trials. Is currently in user trials phase with mobility trials going on now. Qrsam will enter service in 2022.

2. The first production set of MRSAM will be handed over to the airforce in the next few months. From then, another new unit will be handed over every three months. There will be some operational missile tests before the actual handing over to Indian airforce .

3. SAAW will enter service this year itself. HAL is the production agency. The IIR seeker equipped SAAW will start it's developmental trials in 2022.

4. NGARM will enter operational service in 2022.

5. MRSAM for Army will be inducted in 2023-24.

6. ASTRA MK1 has already been inducted.

7. ASTRA MK2 will soon undergo developmental trials followed by user trials and will enter service in 2022.

8. Only two sets of LRSAM are yet to be delivered to the Indian Navy.

9. AKASH NG whose first test trial was conducted just weeks ago will enter series production in 2023.

Was the original reverse engine design a failure? I'd have loved to see it productionised!

I don't know .

Anyways there is no such thing as failure perse in R & D , every so called failure is a stepping stone to developing better technology

DRDO laser threat detection and decoy system for area defence.

This system provides full protection to any fixed or mobile assets within its coverage zone from laser guided bombs , PGMs etc by spoofing and decoying the same away from it's protected zone to hit a predetermined safe zone .

Basically , if this system is installed in say a airbase , then any attacks by enemy aircrafts using laser guided bombs etc will be defeated automatically by this system within its full spherical coverage zone .
