@Nurey and Kingreign; sorry to bother you guys again Please advice between Honda CR-V 05 and Ford escape 05 (both 4 cylinder) in terms of: Stylish Appearance Most Dependable (for a 3 years usage) Cheapest to maintain Availability of Mechanic and Spare parts Fuel (with A/C always on) Resale Value ** RAV-4 and Highlander should have been in the list but they are costly than the two above. Thanks. |

kingreign: nurey: Thanks for the input. It seems a sedan is a not an option here. But is just that am budget constraint. I think the closest option is a Honda CR-V 04/05 for now. |

@ nurey, heavenlybang, Kingreign; kindly advice on the preferred choice of car: First time car owner (with relatively good maintenance culture). Am looking at; Honda civic 2006 (concerns: low ground clearance), Toyota Corolla 2003/04 (concerns: too common and thief magnet issue), Camry 2003 (concerns: body ages badly) For above mentioned car concerns and choice, am not 100% fixated. Am open to expert advise (any car brand in similar capacity as above is also welcome) with reference majorly to the Nigeria bad roads. Thanks. |

Babaheekmat: My brother, pls let's get things right. Am not blaming you in any form or meant any antagonism by quoting your text. Pls don't take offence. Am only trying to point out that Nigeria's problem was created by Nigerians. Things work in other countries because they have functional institutions. We have institutions here too but the people responsible for those offices are just rent seekers. The incident that happened to a very large extent is avoidable if people responsible in various quarters are up to their tasks. If you travel in developed countries, nobody wishes anybody "safe journey". Not that am discounting prayers because i am a believer. But my point is, since there is near zero chance of having an accident, that phrase is being taken for granted. 1 Like |

Babaheekmat: Please how many trucks has break failures in a year in US, Canada, UK or UAE and how many lives were lost due to such. My brother, we are our own problem. Let me throw some points here: * very likely the truck was not road worthy * very likely the truck has not been duly serviced or maintained according to manufacturer's spec * very likely the driver never went to formal driving school * very likely the driver has taken one small green plastic or white sachet before hitting the wheels * very likely if its carrying a load, its beyond its rated capacity * very likely where the shop is located was never in the state or local government town planning design * very likely there is a bad portion of the road the truck is avoiding......and i could go on and on.... From a cursory look, likely one or two of the above is the culprit. And unfortunately none is God-made but man-made. My brother have seen in other climes, where a truck carries a two 40ft containers moving goods around the country with no single accident or brake failure recorded for so many years. Our problem no be someone's curse but our collective negligence and get rich quick syndrome and am not exonerating myself. We need to wake up and do the right things. #wakeupnigerians 4 Likes |

Its quite unfortunate ugly events like these keeps happening everyday in Nigeria with no accountability or anybody being responsible. Are vehicles not certified road worthy anymore? What about the law enforcement agencies responsible for the safety on our roads? Until we start to ask the right questions and making sure public servants are accountable for the offices they held, we will not move forward in this country. Who issued the truck an MOT and Road Worthiness certificate? We are our own problem. Some uneducated fools will blame Buhari again on these one. Whereas as we speak, hundreds of similar road unworthy trucks are leaving Apapa now with people responsible to check these trucks turning a blind eye because he has been bribed 2k or at most 5k to shut up. The INDIVIDUALS of us makes the ALL of us. What we sow is what we will reap. Dis one no be rocket science. We need to wake up and demand accountability from people saddled with public responsibility. Countries with functional system has same governing patterns like us but people do their jobs as expected. Hence, things works. You can see people wailing as usual in the video. But the video will not go viral because nobody was twerking or COZAing somebody or evicted from BBNija. In the next few minutes, everybody resumes back at his business and saying God will not let it be my portion. God doesn't work like that. We have already voted some people into office to protect us against avoidable deaths like these because we know if there are no laws and discipline, things like these will happen to us. It's only in Nigeria you will always hear trucks having brake failure all the time as if there there are no haulage trucks elsewhere in the world. #wakeupnigerians 2 Likes |

@op, let me tell you from first hand experience/info. Currently, jobs are a bit scarce. The ones easily available are low paying jobs between 100k to 150k naira. If you have real Security job experience, you might be lucky to get a pay around 200k naira. Security jobs might not be that hard but it could be sometimes. Agent From distance, the agent is not 100% plain. By that, i mean he has charged extra money. Perhaps his own agency fee is inclusive if truly he will get you the promised job. Reason is, for 3 months visa, which is the max visa period you can be given, will cost normally around 200k and your flight also around 200k (both figures are a bit above the real cost) and i stand to be challenged by any agent. All other money needed by you will be for feeding and transportation plus recharge card. Normal bed space is around 60 to 70k naira. So, be wary about the agent except the person is already working in the company and wants to make extra money from you because there is an opening in their company. Anything apart from these, is a BIG SCAM. Truly and fairly, you will live with 6 to 8 people in a room if not more in some cases. But this does not mean, its a hell. You will still live your normal life. And it gets better or lesser number of people as you earn better. Once again, Dubai is not bed of roses but the little you can earn and save, you either move to other countries or come home to do something for yourself. On the flipside, if you are inclined to entrepreneurship, i think you can start a small business with what is left after renting a house like you said. Though i would suggest you hang around a bit more where you are now to have more money and less pressure to make big profit from the business. Business doesn't become big overnight even if you got it right from onset. Its takes time. The question is do you have the patience. If no, find reliable and truthful people here in Dubai to help you out or give a soft landing. If you are lucky to get something a bit meaningful started here as a job, you can be ok within few years. Just REMEMBER that, Dubai is a place you come to WORK, EARN, SAVE and RETURN back to your country to do something that pleases you. DON'T BE CARRIED AWAY BY THE BLISS AND BLING BLINGS. Wishing you the best. 8 Likes |

@Alphadoor, thank you very much for the insight. If i get you right, it seems you are suggesting i should nominate 263212 (ICT Support Engineer) as against 263111 due to its competitiveness. |

ogbevireo: Thanks for your swift response @ogbevireo. If you don't mind, can you help with an ACS Project report sample or something. Though from distance, the Project Report Form seems not that complex in conjuction with the CBOK but a guide will be appreciated anytime. Can i pm you in this regard? @ogbevireo and other elders here, i seem to have a concern (just like some other people) with this "tough restrictions/conditions" regarding ICT Occupations especially for subclass 190/489. Please what is your thought and kindly advise on my "case scenario 1" in the earlier post. No vex for my quest abeg. Thanks |

Hello house, have gone through the Australian threads but i still need advice from senior members abeg. Intending Occupation Nominations (any): Hardware Technician (313111) – Assessment by TRA ICT Support Technician NEC (263111) – Assessment by ACS ICT Support Engineer (263212)- Assessment by ACS Age: 25pts PTE/IELTS: 20pts (hoping to get max. point) Education: OND (Elect./Elect.) - 2002 B.Eng (Elect./Elect., State university, 5 yrs programme) - 2009 Work Experience: mainly IT Support/System Admin - cognate 7.5 years but can still claim like 2.5yrs more from NYSC, Internships and side hustles (some companies already non-existent anyway) Case Scenario 1 Should i use OND or B.Eng for 313111 which will be assessed by TRA? Which of the cert. has chances of positive assessment with TRA (considering TRA to be related to Trades or Artisans certs.) Case Scenario 2 Should i use B.Eng for 263111 or 263212 which will be assessed by ACS? I know ACS will want to deduct 6 yrs from my work experience due to B.Eng not closely related to either of these two occupations (according to ACS) Case Scenario 3 Should i use B.Eng plus RPL to be assessed by ACS for 263111 or 263212? Has anyone in the house been given positive assessment through RPL route before? Case Scenario 4 Should i assess my B.Eng alone with no experience with EA (though if successful, 15pts only) My people, abeg which of my "case scenarios" has the highest chance of getting at least 65 points for subclass 190 or 489. I know 189 is out of it for now. cc: @bellong, @azy123, @Alphadoor, @aussy4life, @jayooh, @phuntero1. Please elders, your assistance is sought. You guys are doing a great job. |
