PoliticsReps Exchange Blows Over Leadership Tussle, Mace Disappears by NEVERForget(op): 12:39pm On Jun 25, 2015
A serious fight has broken out among members of the House of Representatives, with the federal lawmakers exchanging blows.

At the plenary of the House on Thursday, the tension and divided interest among the legislators led to a brawl, which is still ongoing as of the time of filing this report, between the two factions in the chamber.

At the heart of the fighting is the leadership crisis, which has engulfed the House since the controversial inauguration of the National Assembly on June 9.

The Mace, which is the symbol of authority of the House, has disappeared, as the lawmakers continue with their fighting.

It is learnt that the Mace has however been ferried to the inner office of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

Confusion currently prevails in the Green Chamber, with no one appearing to be in charge.

Some loyalists surround the Speaker, with each of them trying to tell Dogara what do in the midst of the confusion in the House.

Details later…

PoliticsNASS Crisis: Finally, Saraki, Dogara Settle With Oyegun by NEVERForget(op): 4:59pm On Jun 24, 2015
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun yesterday met with the Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki and Speaker House of Representatives Hon Yakubu Dogara over key issues regarding the two chambers.

Yesterday’s meeting which took place at Oyegun’s Abuja home was the APC Chairman’s first formal meeting with Saraki and Dogara since their election which was against the party’s directive.

The party had endorsed Senate Ahmed Lawan and Hon Femi Gbajabiamila for Senate President and House Speaker respectively.

Although some party officials were at the APC National secretariat waiting for the arrival of the Senate President and the Speaker, the parley which lasted for some hours instead took place at the private home of the National Chairman.

The meeting was attended by Sen. Lawan and other APC legislators .According to a source at the meeting, the parley focused on the need to work with the party in choosing principal officers for the two chambers.

But beyond that, the source disclosed that a truce was brokered between the party and the National Assembly leaders.

The source said “It is a private meeting and they were able to settle all the outstanding disputes relating to the sharing of principal positions at the national assembly.

“It all now appears that the APC senators and the federal house of representatives members will go to tomorrow’s (Tuesday) plenary sessions united”.

Oyegun’s meeting with with the Senate President ,bit was learnt was first held before that of Dogara.

Dogara attended the meeting with his deputy, Hon Lasun Suleiman.

Journalists were barred from the premises. Elaborating on the agenda of the meeting , the source said the meeting was called to straighten the strained relationship between the party and the leadership of the two chambers.

Oyegun had in a statement he personally signed assured Nigerians that the party was working hard to resolve the crisis that had rocked it in recent times, to pave the way for the fulfillment of its campaign promises to Nigerians.

”The party has reached out to all interested parties, and when the National assembly resumes next week, Nigerians will see one harmonious, happy APC family,” he had said.

”We owe it to our party, our teeming members and supporters and indeed all Nigerians who reposed so much confidence in us by voting us into office to quickly put the unfortunate incidents of the recent past behind us and forge ahead‎.”

Senate President, Saraki who was scheduled to meet with the APC leadership days after his election but the meeting was called off for reason not given.

Politics18 Killed In Chinese Checkpoint Terrorist Attack by NEVERForget(op): 4:35pm On Jun 24, 2015
No fewer than 18 people died in a bomb-and-knife attack by ethnic Uighurs on unarmed traffic police in China’s Xinjiang region, media reports have said.

Citing an anonymous source, the report said on Tuesday as many as 28 people, including bystanders might have died in the attack on the outskirts of the city of Kashgar, Xinjiang, in north-western China.

Chinese media carried no reports of unrest.

Xinjiang is largely closed off to foreign media, delaying and compromising information from the region and rendering reports difficult to confirm.

Reports said the attack on Monday began when a car sped through a police checkpoint, adding that two passengers reportedly rushed out of the car and stabbed two police officers to death.

A battle then ensued involving three more attackers and armed police who arrived at the scene, Heyhag, district police officer Turghun Memet, was quoted as saying.

Fifteen suspects “designated as terrorists” were killed, Memet said.

It was unclear how many people, including civilians, died in total, the report said.

Asked to confirm the story, a man answering the phone at Ostengboyi police station said: “I don’t know” and immediately hung up the phone.
An Id Kah police station officer replied, “I don’t know. You should ask my leader,” and also hung up.

The region has a long history of discord between the authorities and the indigenous ethnic Uighur population, including attacks that claimed dozens of lives in 2014.

Uighurs, a primarily Muslim ethnic group, make up no fewer than 9 million of Xinjiang’s 22 million people.

Many Uighurs in Xinjiang complain of cultural and religious repression and claim that ethnic Han Chinese migrants enjoy the main benefits of development in the oil-rich but economically backward region.

Chinese authorities in May announced that they had foiled 181 terror plots in a year-long crackdown on the region.

CrimeRobbers Kill Lord’s Chosen Church Pastor In Lagos by NEVERForget(op): 10:38am On Jun 24, 2015
LAGOS—Unknown gunmen, Monday, shot dead Lagos State Coordinator of The Lord’s Chosen Charis-matic Revival Ministries, Pastor Chukwuemeka Okpokpo, at Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin area of the state.

The gunmen, said to have used a motorcycle, reportedly trailed the deceased from a Diamond Bank branch, where he had gone to withdraw N3 million for the church.

They reportedly fired shots into the air, which sent other road users and passers-by scampering for safety.
Reports said Pastor Okpokpo tried to escape when it became obvious that he was the target.

He reportedly slowed down on reaching a bad spot in the road, and the hoodlums shot at the tyres of the Chosen vehicle he was driving, bringing the vehicle to an abrupt halt.

One of the gunmen then alighted from their motorbike, walked to the vehicle and shot Pastor Okpokpo in the stomach.
He was said to have waited to ensure that Okpokpo was no longer breathing before he took the nylon bag containing the money, went back to his two colleagues in the motorbike and they zoomed off.

Fear-stricken residents were said to have rushed to the scene and raised alarm on discovering that the victim was wearing the Lord’s Chosen reflective jacket.

Some of them were said to have alerted members of the church, who rushed him to the church’s clinic at Ijesha.
When news of the tragedy filtered in, those who knew him wept uncontrollably, dispelling the report as rumour, while some said he was still in Ogun State, where he had gone to organise a crusade.

Resurrection prayers

A prayer session aimed at resurrecting him reportedly held between 12.30p.m. and 8p.m.
Some of the church members were, however, of the view that the gunmen could have been hired assassins and not robbers.

We’re investigating—POLICE

Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command said it had begun investigation into the killing. The command said it was too early to say if it was a case of robbery or assassination.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Vanguard: “We are leaving all avenues open in our investigation.”
Church members thronged Okpokpo’s Iju home to commiserate with his family.

The family members hinted that Okpokpo’s body had been taken to his home town in Amizi, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Umuahia of Abia State.
