Businessman, Emeka Okonkwo, turned a year older today February 18 and to celebrate his day, he decided to reward some of his incredible staff and friends with car gifts and cash.
He posted a video of him doling out the gifts and wrote;
‘’Birthday mode activated! I’m overwhelmed with joy and gratitude after celebrating with my incredible staff and friends. As a small token of my appreciation, I gave out car gifts and cash prizes to those who’ve been a vital part of my life and work. My amazing housekeeper, cleaner & chef, barber, and even my police detail and security personnel and my personal photographer - everyone received a car to show my heartfelt gratitude! But what brings me even more joy is reflecting on the past 15-20 years of quietly giving back through my foundation. From building houses for the less privileged to taking kids off the streets and providing them with a chance at a better life, it’s been an honor to make a difference. Today’s celebration is not just about me, but about the collective effort of everyone who’s supported my mission to touch lives and spread love. Thank you for being part of my journey!''
A European family is expressing deep concern as their 65-year-old relative plans to divorce his wife and move to Lagos, Nigeria, to marry a young woman he met on TikTok. https://alexis.lindaikejisblog.com/photos/shares/cover5_1739697899.png A Reddit user, who claims to be the man's nephew, disclosed this on Saturday, February 15, 2025. He said his relative has been in communication with the woman for over a year and already sent substantial amounts of money to her for various reasons.
“It started a year ago. My uncle (65+, married) met a young girl (20-25) on TikTok, started chatting and fell in love… Since then, he sent a lot of money to her for numerous reasons," the Reddit user said.
"Despite the family's efforts to intervene, the uncle remains resolute in his decision, dismissing concerns about potential scams.
“He doesn't listen to anyone, doesn't believe that it is a scam. My family is afraid that he will be robbed, tortured, or murdered there.”
The situation has sparked a debate on Reddit, with users sharing their perspectives.
Our detectives have praised the bravery of a victim who recorded a rapist’s violent attack on her.
Timilehin Olatunji launched a sustained attack on the woman at a property in Nottingham in the early hours of 29 September 2024.
The victim was able to use an app on her mobile phone to record the audio of the assault.
She was later able to escape from the address and report what had happened to specially-trained officers.
Thirty-five-year-old Olatunji was arrested a short time later. He was charged and later pleaded guilty to three counts of rape. Olatunji was jailed for 10 years when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday (15 January).
He was also added to the Sex Offenders' Register for life and made the subject of an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.
Passing sentence, Judge Michael Auty described the attack as 'despicable and vile' and behaviour 'beyond rational understanding'.
He told Olatunji: "You took it upon yourself to rape her in the most brutal, sadistic and cruel way imaginable."
After the hearing, Detective Constable Emily Bucklow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The recorded evidence of Olatunji’s horrific assault made this case particularly harrowing for all the officers who worked on it.
“It is one of the most upsetting things I have had to listen to in my policing career and only enhances my admiration for this victim’s bravery.
“I would also like to commend her for the courage she showed following Olatunji’s arrest and dignity during the subsequent court proceedings.
“He subjected her to a violent, degrading and sustained ordeal but she has shown immense bravery to help us bring him to justice.
“I hope the sentence handed down will at least provide some closure to what must have been an acutely distressing period of her life.
“I also hope the sentencing of Olatunji will encourage other victims of rape and serious sexual assault to have the confidence to come forward and report offenders.
“Our experienced officers are here to help the victims of appalling crimes like this.”
Former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adoza Bello, has appealed to Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, to spare him the possession of a landed property in the Maitama district as one of the conditions for bail.
Bello made the plea on Thursday, December 19, 2024, through his counsel, J.B. Daudu SAN.
He argued that obtaining Certificates of Occupancy and other title documents for properties in Maitama is challenging due to the peculiarities of the area.
"My Lord, most people who may be willing to stand as sureties are reluctant to part with their original title documents. Moreover, many buildings in Maitama are corporate establishments like Transcorp Hilton, NCC among others. Therefore, we are pleading with this honourable court to consider other highbrow areas such as Asokoro, Wuse 2, Guzape, and others when granting bail to our client," he said.
Earlier, Daudu informed the court that the matter was slated for the hearing of Bello's bail application. Explaining, he told the court, "We filed our application yesterday, December 18, 2024, and the prosecution served a counter-affidavit the same day. "We intend to focus on the trial, and for that, we need unrestricted access to the defendant to ensure he is fully prepared. The charges against him are bailable. Moreover, there are critical documents that only he can access. My Lord, the second and third defendants have already been granted bail, and if not for procedural delays, my client would have been granted bail as well," he said.
In response, counsel for the prosecution, Olukayode Eniton SAN, did not oppose the bail application.
"I confirm that the learned senior counsel, Daudu, has been in communication with the prosecution team. Based on the assurance that the defendant will stand trial, barring unforeseen circumstances, we are willing to defer to your lordship's discretion regarding the terms and conditions of bail," he said.
In her ruling, Justice Anenih granted Bello bail in the sum of N500 million with three sureties in like sum. The sureties must be notable Nigerians with landed property in Maitama, Jabi, Utako, Apo, Guzape, Garki, or Asokoro.
The judge also ordered Bello to deposit his passport and other travel documents with the court registrar. She further directed that he remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service Centre, Kuje, until his bail conditions are met.
Two other defendants standing trial alongside Bello, Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu had their bail conditions varied. The judge reduced their bail sum from N300m to N200m and further ordered that they could get landed properties within the jurisdiction of the court that had the same values as the bail sum.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is prosecuting Bello alongside Oricha and Hudu on a 16-count charge of criminal breach of trust and money laundering to the tune of N110.4 billion.
Justice Anenih adjourned hearing on the substantive suit till January 29, 2024.
In one of the biggest drug seizures so far, the Anti-Narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru, India have arrested a 40-year-old Nigerian woman on drug peddling charges and recovered 12kg of MDMA worth around Rs 24 crore from her.
The accused woman, Roselime Oluchi Ikeoha, was peddling drugs to her customers through a grocery shop which she is running in TC Palya for the last five years.
Roselime told police she got the drugs from another Nigerian woman in Mumbai.
"This is one of the largest drug seizures in Bengaluru and Karnataka," City Police Commissioner, B Dayananda said on Tuesday.
“Acting on credible information, we sent men in decoy in the guise of purchasing drugs from Roselime. They met her at KR Pura bus stand, seized some MDMA from her and arrested her. After raiding her TC Palya residence, we seized 12kg of MDMA and 70 sim cards, obtained in different names.”
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that she supplied the drugs to foreign nationals, college students and private firms employees, who were her regular customers.
"Preliminary probe revealed that the accused used to source the drugs from her contact, a woman from Mumbai through various means of transportation. Efforts are on to secure the supplier who is on the run," the officer said.
The accused who had come to Bengaluru on business visa five years ago had overstayed as her visa has since expired, he added.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Foreigners Act.
An Ikeja special offences court in Lagos has fixed January 20, 2025, for the arraignment of Ahmed Kuru, former managing director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), over allegations of N76 billion and $31.5 million fraud.
Kuru is to be arraigned alongside Roy Ilegbodu, managing director of Arik Air; Kamilu Omokide, receiver manager of Arik Air; Union Bank Nigeria Plc; and Super Bravo Limited.
The charges stem from a petition filed by Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), on behalf of Johnson Arumemi, founder of Arik Air, and the airline’s shareholders.
According to the charge sheet, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Union Bank of “making false statements” to AMCON regarding Arik Air’s loans and bank guarantees.
The EFCC stated that these false statements resulted in the transfer of N71 billion to AMCON. The commission also accused Kuru, Omokide, and Ilegbodu of stealing and “fraudulently converting N4.9 billion for the use of NG Eagle Limited in 2022.”
Additionally, the EFCC alleged that Kuru and Omokide intentionally incorporated NG Eagle Limited to secure undue advantages for themselves and their associates. The anti-graft agency further accused Kuru, Omokide, and Ilegbodu of authorizing the destruction of a 5N-JEA aircraft valued at $31.5 million on February 12, 2022.
On December 3, Kuru and his legal team were absent from court, leading the trial judge, Mojisola Dada, to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
At Thursday’s session, Kuru’s counsel, Olasupo Shasore, signed an undertaking to produce his client on the scheduled arraignment date.
“My lord, if the learned silk is assuring the court that the second defendant will be available on January 20 for his arraignment, we will not be objecting to the application,” said Wahab Shittu, the prosecution counsel.
“We could not contact him the way others were contacted, and his counsel has signed an undertaking that he will produce him. Knowing the consequences of the undertaking, the prosecution will not be objecting to the revocation of the bench warrant against the second defendant.”
Judge Dada, in a brief ruling, set aside the bench warrant and adjourned the case to January 20.

The accident, which involved a mini truck (AGL 22 YE) and a commercial LT bus (BFG 204 XF), was attributed to a brake failure on the LT bus, which was traveling at excessive speed. The bus collided with the mini truck, which was moving slowly due to mechanical difficulties.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the Lagos Traffic Management Agency LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said a total of 16 passengers seated in the rear of the LT bus—11 women and 5 men—sustained significant injuries and were swiftly transported to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Centre near the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for urgent medical care.
He said two additional passengers seated at the front of the LT commercial bus were trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe fractures to their limbs. He mentioned that they were extricated with the combined efforts of LASTMA personnel, emergency responders and concerned bystanders. These arrests occurred after a violent incident leading to the deaths of 17 soldiers, prompting military action in the community.
The Okuama community, outraged by the unlawful arrests, filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, demanding N100 million for illegal detention.
The Federal High Court in the last sitting on 20th November, 2024 had adjourned the bail application of the arrested leaders to December 9, 2024, to hear the motion.

A toddler tragically drowned in a garden bin after her mum was forced to leave her with a stranger to visit her sick baby in hospital.
Nigerian Mum-of-two, Balikis Adeoye has come out to speak of her heartbreak after losing her "beautiful and happy" two-year-old daughter Mazeedat.
The devastated parent told an inquest she "didn't know or trust well enough" the people looking after her daughter when the horror unfolded on January 29, 2022. But, she felt forced to leave Mazeedat with them, in order to be with her three-month-old baby who was having heart surgery in hospital.
The little girl was tragically discovered at the property in Dagenham a few hours after an alarm was raised.
She was found in a bin which contained nine centimetres of water.
Balikis told an inquest at East London Coroner's Court she asked for help from social services at Newham Council but claimed no one had tried to find a foster parent for her daughter.
She said: "I struggle to find the words to describe the heartbreak I feel over Mazeedat's death.
"She was the most beautiful and happy little girl who brought sunshine to my life.
"Before her birth, I only knew how to love myself. When she was born Mazeedat was the best thing that had happened in my life.
"I'll always keep Mazeedat close to my heart and will forever cherish the short but precious years we had together.
"I just hope that by speaking out other families facing the same situation don't have to experience the same pain I will always live with."
The inquest heard how Balikis moved to the UK from Nigeria in March 2021 and on September, her baby son, who is British, had been diagnosed with a hole in his heart.
Balikis had first been referred to Newham Council four months before Mazeedat's death because she was living on sofas with no permanent home.
She told the inquest she requested a foster placement for her daughter, while she stayed with her son who was having heart surgery in hospital.
At the time Balikis was referred to social services, she was classified as an overstayer because she had separated from her UK partner and therefore couldn’t access public funds.
But the inquest heard social workers did not arrange a placement and advised the mum-of-two, who had no support network, to ask friends for help instead.
This meant Balikis was forced to leave Mazeedat with a carer she "didn't know or trust well enough" in order to be with her son on January 25, 2022.
Balikis said: "At the time she died, Mazeedat was staying with people I didn't know or trust well enough.
"However, I felt that I had no choice but to leave her in their care.
"Faced with the alternative of leaving my other child, a three-month-old baby alone in hospital to recover from heart surgery, this was no choice at all."
The mum-of-two said she "consistently" pleaded for help but "none was arranged".
The toddler was reported missing on January 29 and discovered in the garden a few hours later.
The inquest concluded that two-year-old Mazeedat died due to "gross failure" due to inadequate supervision in the garden, failures by those caring for Mazeedat and the council.
A post-mortem examination found her cause of death was drowning.
Coroner Graeme Irvine added: “Local authority child services failed to support Mazeedat's family and put in place appropriate support for Mazeedat's care.”
The coroner found if the "missed opportunity" to secure the two-year-old a foster placement had been taken, her death probably could have been avoided.
He told the inquest he now plans to write a prevention of future deaths report.
A spokesperson for Newham Council said: "We were devastated by Mazeedat's tragic death. Our thoughts remain with her family and loved ones.
"After the terrible accident which led to her death in January 2022 we undertook an investigation into our role and since that time our social work practice and approach has been overhauled - a change, which has since been recognised by Ofsted who now rate our services as 'Good'.
Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun on Friday, Nov. 29, ate the duct-taped banana he bought for $6.2 million.
Sun, 34, ate the fruit in front of reporters in Hong Kong in what he called an “iconic” stunt, fulfilling a promise he’d made after buying it from a New York art auction, according to Agence France-Press.
As he ate the banana art, he compared conceptual art and cryptocurrency.
“It’s much better than other bananas,” he said as he took a first bite. “It’s really quite good.”
Titled "Comedian", the conceptual work created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York last week, with Sun among seven bidders
Sun said he felt "disbelief" in the first 10 seconds after he won the bid, before realising "this could become something big".
In the 10 seconds after that, he decided he would eat the banana.
"Eating it at a press conference can also become a part of the artwork's history," he said Friday, Nov. 29.
The banana art first debuted at the 2019 Art Basel show in Miami Beach. At the time, it sparked controversy and raised questions about whether it should be considered art.
And Sun on Friday compared conceptual art like "Comedian" to NFT art and decentralised blockchain technology.
"Most of its objects and ideas exist as (intellectual property) and on the internet, as opposed to something physical," he said.
The banana artwork owner is given a certificate of authenticity that the work was created by Cattelan as well as instructions about how to replace the banana when it goes bad.
Sun told AFP that his artwork may well benefit from the same kind of speculative craze usually associated with crypto.
"I think (the price) probably is going to go up even more in the future, just like Bitcoin," he said.
Meanwhile, the mega-million-dollar banana had been bought from a New York street vendor for just 35 cents, then duct-taped to a wall by artist Maurizio Cattelan as part of his “Comedian” collection.
Sun ate the banana just hours after it emerged it had been bought for less than a dollar from 74-year-old New York City street vendor Shah Alam, who works for $12 an hour at his stand outside of Sotheby’s on the Upper East Side.
“I am a poor man,” the widower told the New York Times with tears in his eyes. “I have never had this kind of money; I have never seen this kind of money.”
Sun vowed to “buy 100,000 bananas from his stand in New York’s Upper East Side,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon, Nov. 28.
“These bananas will be distributed free worldwide through his stand,” Sun said, adding that he hoped to visit Alam in person.
Angry residents have beaten a man to a bloody pulp in Adavi-Eba, Kogi State, after accusing him of stealing.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, November 29, 2024.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly specialises in stealing phones and other valuables through the windows of houses. It was alleged that he tried to steal phones from a house and was nabbed by the occupants.
During interrogation, he was not specific about where he came from but mentioned Nagazi and Ihima.
The suspect has been handed over to the appropriate authorities
