NAFDAC seizes N300 million worth of fake medicines in Lagos raid.



The Investigation & Enforcement team of the National Drug has uncovered a trove of counterfeit medicines during a raid at Tyre Village, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State. The operation led to the seizure of fake pharmaceuticals, including Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampiclox capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg. The facility has been placed on HOLD, and all illegal products have been evacuated.



A statement from the agency says these counterfeit medicines estimated at over N300 million pose severe health risks, including treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to unknown compositions. The suspect has been invited for questioning, and further investigations are underway.



NAFDAC urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office to help combat the circulation of fake medicines.

“Over the past several months, we have intensified our operations against vehicle trafficking syndicates operating within our borders. According to INTERPOL reports, West Africa has emerged as a notable destination hub in the global stolen vehicle trade network, which extends from Europe and North America to as far as South America and Australia.

This challenge is particularly acute in Nigeria – National Bureau of Statistics data showed that between 2013-2015, only 54% of stolen vehicles were recovered, highlighting the scale and sophistication of this criminal enterprise.

The growing incidence of stolen vehicles finding their way into our region has become a matter of serious concern, as it not only undermines our legitimate automotive market but also strains our security infrastructure,”

The immediate past Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, has announced that she appeared in court to represent a case involving a 5-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually abused by her class teacher.


This comes a month after she was sacked by President Bola Tinubu.

Kennedy-Ohaneye was among four ministers removed from office in a major cabinet reshuffle last month.

In a post on X on Monday, November 25, 2024, the lawyer reiterated her commitment to fighting for a better society and eradicating all forms of abuse against vulnerable Nigerians, including children.

“I remain committed to fighting for a better society. My passion for justice remains unwavering, and I will not tolerate any form of abuse, especially against vulnerable Nigerians, including children,” she wrote.



"Today, I represented a heart-wrenching case involving a 5-year-Old girl who was sexually abused by her class teacher. This incident strengthens my resolve to combat such heinous crimes.


“To those who would dare perpetrate such atrocities, let this serve as a warning. I will pursue justice relentlessly in my capacity.”

Nigerians have called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to probe a weight gain pap for babies being sold by a TikTok user.

The TikTok user shared a video of an overweight four-month-old baby girl, claiming she gained weight after being fed the product.

“The Baby is only four months old. POV: my customer's baby while using our Baby's weight gain Pap. Now tell me why haven't you gotten our products yet,” she captioned the video.

She also shared another video of a one-year-old, claiming he weighs 47 kg.

“He is currently weighing 47kg. The was last month when I checked. And he is only a year old tho. Our baby's weight gain pap keeps doing the magic,” the caption on the video reads.

The review read, “We are four months. She is doing wonders. People dey gather her; they call her boss baby. Madam, what are you feeding her with? E choke, my baby na celeb everywhere we dey. The joy is heavenly."

Reposting the videos, some X.com users raised concerns about the potential harm of the product.

Popular Nigerian health influencer, Dr. Chinonso Egemba, better known as Aproko Doctor, urged NAFDAC to take immediate action.

“Dear #NafdacAgency, I’m guessing this is within your purview. No one knows what is inside that pap. Also, this is setting these babies for damage," he wrote.

Sharing the videos, #JaceTheJace wrote, “Can you just imagine this? We need to find a way to stop this person. She took the video off her page; this is the page in question.”

Another X user #Talk2veee questioned the obsession with “chubby babies” and the potential harm of promoting such products.

“What’s the obsession with chubby babies? Are slim babies unhealthy?” she wrote.

Another user wrote: "Are these people aware children can get diabetes? Even certain adults don’t weigh that much!!!! This is not healthy!!! Obesity is not healthy and it’s linked with different diseases!

“This is child abuse and child endangerment, this is a crime. These people are loading babies with steroids to fatten them up making them prone to illnesses they’ll have to manage for the rest of their lives. Is there even a child protection agency in Nigeria that isn’t an NGO?”

A Nigerian woman has been arrested in Tripoli, Libya, for alleged possession of 2 kilograms of cocaine.

A migrant monitoring organisation in Libya, Migrant Rescue Watch, disclosed this in a post via X on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

According to the post, the suspect was arrested by the 444th Combat Brigade during a sting operation

“Units of 444th Combat Brig. during sting-operation in Tripoli arrested a female of Nigerian nationality in possession of est. 2 kg of cocaine," the post read.

The accused in collaboration with foreign accomplices attempted to sell the drugs on the local market.

“Following completion of criminal investigation, the accused female remains in custody and the case was referred to public prosecution."

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed one Justice Onyekachukwu Elimani, a day to his traditional wedding in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.


Onyekachukwu and his partner, Blessing were set to tie the knot on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024, at Umusam in Kwale.


According to eyewitnesses, Elimani and one other victim identified as Double C, were k!lled in separate attacks on Friday, November 22.


One of the witnesses said the former groom-to-be was walking with friends to purchase items for the wedding when he was ambushed and killed by suspected members of a rival cult group.


Double C's lifeless body was discovered at Utagba-Uno Junction.


A third victim was injured and being treated at an undisclosed location.


It was gathered that security personnel have mounted roadblocks across the area to prevent further violence and contain the situation.

A reverend sister from Nigeria has been awarded the 2024 Opus Prize. Sister Francisca Ngozi Uti, founder and executive director of the Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) in Abuja, Nigeria, won the prestigious $1.2 million honor which recognizes extraordinary humanitarian efforts worldwide.

During the award ceremony on November 14 at Santa Clara University in California’s Silicon Valley, Sister Ngozi, a member of the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ), expressed profound gratitude.

“Did I ever imagine being nominated as the laureate? Honestly, no,” she said. “Words seem inadequate to capture the depth of my joy. My heart overflows with gratitude. I never dreamed the work my team and I have been doing in remote communities would gain recognition, not just locally but across the Atlantic in the United States.”

Ngozi thanked the Opus Prize jury for believing in her mission to alleviate suffering among marginalized groups.

Reflecting on her journey, Sister Ngozi credited her father for ensuring she received an education despite societal challenges.

“Thank you, Papa. Your sacrifice was not in vain,” she said, adding that her congregation’s founder, Mother Mary Charles Magdalene Walker, inspired her life of courage and faith.

CWSI, under Sister Ngozi’s leadership, empowers women to become politically aware, socially responsible, and economically independent. The organization also advocates for women’s inclusion in government roles and the enforcement of legal provisions against gender-based violence in five Nigerian states.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State has sentenced one Kehinde Amaka, a.k.a. Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, to one year imprisonment for possessing fake $2,028,400.00.

The presiding judge, Justice Isa Dashen, convicted and sentenced Kehinde in his ruling on 12th November 2024.

The prosecution, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the offence is contrary to Section 2 and 5.1 (b) of the Counterfeit Currency, Special Provision Act, 2004.

At the resumed hearing on November 12, the prosecution counsel, Hadiza Afebua, reminded the court of the matter before it, explaining that it was for the continuation of trial, conviction and sentence of the defendant.

The charges read: “That you Kehinde Amaka a.k.a Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, adult, Male Citizen of Nigeria on the 15th May 2024 in Lokoja, within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court had in your possession the sum of $2,028,400.00 (Two Million Twenty-eight Thousand Four Hundred United States Dollars) worth of counterfeit banknotes in $100 bills denomination knowing to be counterfeit and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 5(1)(b) of the Counterfeit Currency(Special Provision)Act,Cap C35 LFN, 2004.

“That you Kehinde Amaka a.k.a Yomade Ademisoye Ojomo, adult, Male Citizen of Nigeria on the 15th May 2024 in Lokoja, within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court without lawful authority had in your possession chemical dye material and instruments for making counterfeit United States $100 Dollar bills denomination and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 2 of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act. CAP C35 LFN, 2004”.

Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, the First Prosecution Witness (PW1), Alonge Opeyemi Joseph, said the matter was reported to the ant -graft agency by the NDLEA on 16 May, 2024.

“The office of the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, received a written petition together with the defendant and exhibits containing counterfeited US dollars.”

“Upon receiving the petition and defendant, the matter was assigned to Team B, Counter Terrorism, General Investigation and Pension Section,” he said.

The Prosecuting witness 1 added that he obtained the petition and the defendant together with the exhibits ; and alleged fake currencies were counted in the presence of the defendant and his statement recorded voluntarily under word of caution.

A Nigerian woman, Adejumorekeh Balogun has called on Nigerians and relevant authorities for help after allegedly losing her left eye in alleged domestic violence.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, November 16, 2024, the woman shared photos showing her battered face and swollen left eye, alleging that she has been in an abusive relationship with her husband, who she described as a beast, for 15 years.

“This is what fifteen years in an abusive relationship with a beast has cost me. My left eye…. Please I need help from the masses. In another post on Sunday, November 17, she alleged that her husband and his family are threatening her over the previous post.

The entrepreneur added that she is currently in an undisclosed hospital.

“Pls share till it gets the right authorities that will help me. I ‘m helpless. His family and him are threatening me. I ’ve been hospitalized and they don't know where I am."

She also shared photos of the abuse she endured in the hands of her husband in December 2022, alleging that he did same to his ex-wives.

"This is Dec 4, 2022. This man has been a beast since we’ve been together his friends can testify, my family and friends can testify even his ex wives can be witness because he does it to them too. His family are telling my family that it has only happened once before. They’re threatening me to bring down the posts I’ve made on social media. I’m dropping this update to let you know that I haven’t gotten a particular authority to handle the matter , I’m counting on you all, he already told me I don’t have solid background and no one will come to my rescue. Now I’m counting on GOD,I must not Suffer in Vain,my one eye is already blind ,I deserve justice"

Attempts by drug syndicates to export large consignments of cocaine, methamphetamine and opioids through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja to the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey and Qatar have been thwarted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, who in series of intelligence led operations recovered the illicit drugs and arrested the masterminds.

A total of 13 parcels of cocaine weighing 4.40kg cocaine going to the United Kingdom via Frankfurt on a Lufthansa Airlines flight were intercepted by NDLEA officers at the export shed of the Lagos airport on 5th November 2024 while a businessman linked to the consignment, Ekeocha Anayo Nelson, was tracked and arrested on 8th November.

The bid by another businessman, Adegbite Solomon (aka Obama) to export 7,800 pills of tramadol, 180 tablets of rohypnol, and 60 bottles of codeine to Italy was also foiled at the departure hall of the Lagos airport on Monday 11th November when NDLEA operatives arrested him after recovering the opioids concealed in food and other items while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Italy. He claimed to have travelled to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea and earned a living as a street beggar before delving into logistics business.

Also related is the arrest of another businessman, Anoke Kingsley Roomy with 1,100 pills of tramadol 225mg hidden in his luggage while attempting to board his Ethiopian Airlines flight going to Istanbul, Turkey at the terminal 1 of the Lagos airport on Friday 15th November.

Following credible intelligence, NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, DOGI, and their counterparts from the FCT Command of the Agency on Friday 15th November raided a hotel room at the Federal Housing Authority estate, Lugbe, Abuja, where they arrested two suspects: Omeh Uchenna Jude, 36, and Anene Valentine Chigozie, 34. Recovered from them was 1.8kg methamphetamine, which they were preparing to travel with to Qatar.

Another suspect, Akande Moruf Olasunkanmi, was arrested with 1.8kg methamphetamine by operatives of a Special Operations Unit in NDLEA at his 9 Durojaiye street, Lawanson area of Surulere, Lagos home after weeks of intelligence and surveillance.

"My wife was scheduled for a CS on the 29th of October 2024. That morning we arrived the hospital and were booked. I made payments for everything including delivery of 2 pints of -ve O blood. She was the 3rd person booked for the day. The first 3 people stayed an average of 30 minutes in the theatre before both baby and mother where brought out.

"When it was her turn after 3 people, she was wheeled into the theatre. About 15 minutes later my son was brought out and shown to me. 12:26pm. A pretty baby boy.

"I expected my wife would be out in the next 15 but a nurse came to meet me that they needed me to source for more blood because there's fibroid in my wife's womb blocking the pathway to stitch the womb and they cut it off hence the delay. 'Cut it off'? Who asked for them to cut it off?

"They asked me to go get 2 more pints of blood (NB: this blood is not just easy to get). Luckily for me I made calls and we got the 2 pints.

"They brought her out, hooked intravenous thingies on her and stuff. A few hours passed. Nurse asked me to go get Rogham from the pharmacy.

"While I was there I got a call from my BIL that my wife was being rushed into the theatre again. On rushing back the nurse told me her tummy was swelling due to blood accumulation and they had to take her in for emergency surgery. My BIL told me my wife complained of difficulty breathing. They had already gotten my BIL to sign a form for complete removal of her uterus.
"After more than 30 minutes she was brought out and wheeled to the ICU where she struggled for her life. I had to rally for 4 more pints of blood which included renting the hospital ambulance all the way to gbagada and then yaba to get blood plasma then getting 4 more pints of blood ( they even had to use o+ blood) from wherever we could get from.

"3:00am She was on the 7th pint when she went into cardiac arrest and never made it back.

"My wife died due to the hospitals incompetence because I they had informed me about carrying out a fibroid operation with CS I would have told them not to.

"I need lawyers who are willing to help us on a litigation against this hospital."

Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State have rejected a bribe of N174 million offered by a suspected internet fraudster to avoid arrest and prosecution.

The suspect identified as Patrick Akpoguma, is alleged to have been involved in various types of internet-related fraud, including romance scams, identity theft, cyber hacking, cryptocurrency fraud, ritualism, and cultism.

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Friday, November 15, 2024, said the suspect offered the sum of $100,000 USD (One Hundred Thousand Dollars), equivalent to about N174 million, to law enforcement officials.

Fayoade revealed that investigations into Akpoguma began on November 7, 2024, following complaints from residents of Chevron Drive, Lekki, where the suspect resides.

“Patrick Akpoguma admitted to being involved in what is known as romance scams and other cryptocurrency-related scams. He meets various people online and presents himself as a notable and famous Caucasian American, such as Colonel Matt Herbert, a serving U.S. Army officer currently on a peacekeeping mission in Iran. He also impersonates Adam Taggart, a renowned cryptocurrency and stock brokerage expert in the United States,” he said.

The AIG further disclosed that Akpoguma used these fake identities to lure unsuspecting victims into fraudulent schemes.

“He convinced his unsuspecting victims that he is a top executive working on several projects that require funding, which leads him to request loans,"

"Typically, he receives these loans via his Bitcoin Trust Wallet or through blockchain transactions. So far, he has defrauded over seven victims using this method.”

To execute these fraudulent activities, the suspect reportedly created a fake Instagram account under the name ‘Adam Taggart.’

“This account allowed him to purchase a silicone face and hand mask from maskmakers.com, which was delivered to his residence on Chevron Drive, Lekki,” he explained. The AIG added, “He paid $11,200 USD for the manufacturing of this mask, which he used to impersonate Adam Taggart on Facebook and Instagram.”

Revealing further details, AIG Fayoade said, “Surprisingly, during the investigation, the suspect began pleading and offering money to be let off the hook. Once I was informed about this, I instructed my detectives from the Raider team, led by CSP Ngozi Braide, to play along. On November 12, 2024, he offered the sum of $100,000 USD (One Hundred Thousand Dollars), equivalent to about One Hundred and Seventy-Four Million Naira. The money was accepted, registered as evidence, and the investigation continued. So far, the investigation has been concluded, and the suspect will be arraigned accordingly."

Speaking with newsmen, the suspect admitted to turning to fraud three years ago, citing frustration over his inability to find meaningful employment.

“I am a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, and I am 28 years old. After leaving school, it became clear that I needed to find my own path and try to get on my feet. I decided to try fraud while I looked for something legitimate,” he confessed. The suspect also revealed details about his lifestyle and fraudulent activities.

[b[“I started doing fraud three years ago, and since then, I’ve made over $500,000 USD. I have achieved a lot. I own a house in Lagos, a house in Edo State, and a GLE Benz worth N100 million,” he stated.[/b]

He explained his approach to defrauding victims, adding, “Once I defraud people and feel I have taken enough from them, I simply walk away. I don’t leave them penniless.”

Regarding his encounter with the police, the suspect admitted that it was his first experience with law enforcement.

“In my three years of fraud, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad encounter with the police. This is the first time I’ve been in contact with the police. I was just trying to negotiate with them, and I thought they were actually responding to the negotiation.”

He commended the integrity of the officers involved in his case, saying, “I must confess, it’s a good step for the Nigerian police and the Nigerian people to regain their trust in the police for being transparent. It’s good to know that some credible officers are still out there, willing to see justice done.”

The suspect also used the opportunity to advise others who might be involved in similar activities.

“My advice to people like me is: I would advise everyone to be more diligent, stay focused on the process, find something legitimate, and grow. Because I believe that what is legitimate has the space and platform to grow, whereas illegitimate income is not dependent on you, and it has no space for growth."

Four lecturers of the Federal University, Lokoja have been dismissed on account of examination misconduct and sexual misconduct. The governing council of the university gave the approval at its Second Council Meeting on Thursday, November 14.

Last year, the council ordered an investigation after the lecturers were accused of examination malpractices and sexual harassment.

The council, under the leadership of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, appreciated the university management for following due process in the investigation that followed the allegations of examination misconduct and sexual harassment against the lecturers.

“The council will not tolerate any unethical conduct in the university” and urged the university to quickly process the remaining cases of misconduct pending, especially the one in the Faculty of Science that is trending in the media.

While cautioning staff members and lecturers against all forms of molestation of students, the council said no misconduct would be swept under the carpet.

It also urged the students always to speak out when they are molested.

A 15-year-old Nigerian boy, David Akiogbe, has scored 1580 in his SAT. Akiogbe achieved a perfect score of 800/800 in Mathematics and 780/800 in Reading and Writing, totalling 1580 out of 1600.

In an interview, David shared his secret on how he achieved the score.

According to him, he began preparing for the SAT two years ago, taking it upon himself to research and study for the test.

“All my preparation for this was done entirely online, using only free digital resources. I woke up at 4 to write practice tests. And it's more of a test on the strategy that you choose to use as opposed to a test on pure intelligence,” he said.

“So, I decided to isolate different methods and strategies for different question types in order to maximise my score. My biggest mentor currently would be my dad.

“I plan on studying Mechanical Engineering when I get to the university. What I hope people take away from this is that you don't need much to succeed. Everything you need to learn is available online and it's free to anyone with a phone and internet connection.”

His father, Stephen Akiogbe, further revealed that David also handled the application himself.

Akiogbe stated that his involvement was limited to reviewing his son's application before submission, ensuring everything was in order.

David's father expressed immense pride in his son's achievement, noting how important it is for parents to support their children's dreams.

“The interesting part of it all is that he started nursing the dream two years ago. He researched, studied on his own, applied on his own, he told me and I asked him to go ahead with it. I came in a s his Dad at the point of payment and submission of the application to double check his application. He studied hard by himself with no tutor and made 15/1600," the proud father said.

“He's an inspiration for teenagers and for parents. I ‘m his Dad and I ’m proud of him."

David's impressive SAT results has been confirmed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's top institutions.

Governor Okpebholo also revealed that he did not consult any native doctor, prophet or visited any shrine to seek help throughout his senatorial contests (in 2023) and governorship (in 2024).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two members of an alleged syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim for attempted fraud and impersonating the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.

They were arraigned on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja.

The suspects allegedly contacted Mohammed Bello-Koko, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, claiming to have access to a phony investigation involving him by the EFCC.

They demanded $1 million, promising that the EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede would ensure a “soft landing” for them. They also threatened him with arrest and prosecution should he fail to play along with them.

The EFCC filed a four-count charge against the duo for impersonation and attempted fraud.

Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Ojobo Joshua (aka PA to Chairman EFCC) and Aliyu Hashim, on or about September 28, 2024, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, attempted to obtain the sum of $700,000 (Seven Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) by false pretence from Mohammed Bello-Koko. You falsely represented to him that there was a pending EFCC petition against him, which you could influence the Executive Chairman to halt. This act is contrary to Section 8(b) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14, 2006.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read to them.

Following their pleas, EFCC’s counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, requested the court to remand the defendants in a Correctional facility pending the commencement of the trial.

She said, “Having pleaded not guilty, my Lord, we ask for a date to begin calling our witnesses and request the defendants be remanded in custody.”

Obinna S. Nwosu, counsel to the first defendant, applied for his client’s release on liberal bail terms, while counsel for the second defendant, Peter Oriobe, made an oral request for bail. Justice Onwuebuzie, however, directed Oriobe to formally submit the bail application in writing.

Alabi opposed the bail applications, referencing a 22-paragraph counter-affidavit and Exhibit EFCC 1 and urged the court to deny the defendant bail and grant an accelerated hearing.

After reviewing the applications, Justice Onwuebuzie granted bail to the first defendant in the sum of N100 million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must not be less than level 16 officers in the civil service. The sureties are also required to submit their appointment and promotion letters, valid identification, and a written undertaking to bring the defendant to every court sitting. The first defendant must also surrender his international passport to the court.

The court ordered that the first and second defendants be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre until bail conditions are met and adjourned the matter till November 18, 2024, for the hearing of the second defendant’s bail application.

Joshua and Hashim are members of an alleged four-man syndicate impersonating Olukoyede. They were arrested at Gimbiya Street, Garki and Apo legislative quarters.

A young man, Joshua Jessa, who was abducted by kidnappers escaped from his captors and reunited with his family in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State

Jessa was kidnapped last week Wednesday and miraculously escaped from the kidnappers’ den on Sunday evening, November 10, 2024. According to the punch, the kidnappers initially demanded N50m ransom but after much negotiation, reduced it to N6m. It was further gathered that the money was to be paid on Sunday evening before the victim’s escape.

The father of the victim, Chief Jessa Harrison, the Chief Executive Officer of Jessa Global Limited, could not hide his joy when he embraced his son, Joshua.

Speaking on the incident with journalists on Sunday night, he disclosing that his son was kidnapped by two armed men who whisked him into the bush on Wednesday, before he ‘miraculously’ escaped from the abductors.

“God released my son. I did not pay one naira," he said.

"My boy ran from the kidnappers to Kokori from where he called me. I thought it was a joke. We then went in search of him. I took him to Eku for treatment before I brought him home.”

Jessa however expressed concern over what he tagged the lukewarm response of the police in the community to the complaint of the abduction of his son.

“I was only joined by my younger brother, who is the SSA on Security to the Governor and vigilante members in the search for the boy, after a call from him that he had escaped," he stated.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Timber Kesiye Wabote, the former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), over allegations of misappropriating $35 million in public funds linked to the failed Brass Project in Bayelsa State.



Wabote’s arrest follows the earlier detention of Akintoye Adeoye Akindele, the Managing Director of Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited, who faces charges of money laundering, misappropriation, and diversion of funds.



The investigation centers around a project that was meant to develop an Energy Infrastructure Park in the Okpoama Community, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, including a refinery, jetty, gas plant, power plant, data center, and tank farm with the capacity to process 2,000 barrels of oil per day. NCDMB, under Wabote’s leadership, had reportedly provided counterpart funding of $35 million for the initiative.



However, the project was abandoned in December 2020 with minimal progress made despite the substantial funds allocated. Investigations revealed that Akindele was paid the $35 million by NCDMB to oversee the construction of the refinery and associated facilities. The funds were reportedly misappropriated, leaving little to show for the investment.



Preliminary findings suggest that Wabote, during his tenure as NCDMB Executive Secretary from 2016 to 2023, was involved in multiple such investments, including the Brass Free Trade Zone initiative. Wabote’s arrest is tied to the mismanagement of the $35 million intended for the refinery project.



The EFCC is currently holding Wabote at its Abuja facility, while investigations continue into the case, with other suspects also under scrutiny.



EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Wabote’s arrest on Wednesday but declined to provide additional comments on the matter.

The Nigeria Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC has conducted a major raid on wine shops in Mararaba Market and the New Nyanya and Masaka areas of Nasarawa State.


In a statement released today, the agency said the operation targeted counterfeit and adulterated wines and spirits, resulting in the seizure of products valued at over N41.2 million.



The agency said its Investigation & Enforcement team is actively investigating the importers or manufacturers behind these counterfeit drinks.

NAFDAC urged consumers to remain vigilant and report suspicious products to the nearest NAFDAC office for immediate action.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the ongoing demolition of shanties within Abuja, stating that protests will not deter the government’s efforts.



Wike made this declaration during a visit to the Ruga community along the Wuye axis of the capital.



Channels Television reported that Wike noted that the administration will engage in dialogue with residents of shanties in Abuja to find sustainable solutions to illegal settlements. The goal, he said, is to develop long-term recommendations that will prevent the re-establishment of these makeshift communities.



Referring to a recent protest held on Friday, November 8, where demonstrators labeled the FCTA as “land grabbers,” Wike dismissed the accusations, describing the protest as a “misplaced priority.”



“We are determined to maintain the city’s master plan,” he asserted, adding that public opposition will not sway the administration’s decision to proceed with demolitions aimed at restoring order and ensuring safety within the capital

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has smashed a notorious car theft syndicate known for receiving, rebranding and selling stolen vehicles.



The spokesperson of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, November 10, 2024, said a member of the syndicate, Steven Abang was tracked to Jos, Plateau State and arrested.



The notorious suspect admitted to having sold over 16 stolen vehicles to buyers in the past four years.



On October 10, 2024, Mr. Philemon Olaoluwa reported to the Central Police Divisional Headquarters after his vehicle—a Honda Accord 2006 model, ash in colour with registration number RBC 40 NW—was stolen,” the statement read.



"Mr Olaoluwa’s car developed a mechanical fault, a friend recommended he engage a mechanic from Apo Mechanic Village, FCT, named Abdulhamid Saidu (currently at large).



"Mr. Olaoluwa unaware of the motives of the mechanic, released his vehicle with its documents inside the car. But instead of repairing it, Saidu disappeared with the car.



"Thanks to Digital Tracking technology installed in the vehicle, FCT Police Command operatives tracked the car to Rayfield, Jos in Plateau State, where it was discovered with Steven Abang—a notorious suspect known for receiving, rebranding and selling off stolen vehicles.



"Abang confessed that he received the vehicle from his accomplice, Saidu. At Abang’s workshop, two additional vehicles—a Hyundai Accent and a Peugeot 208— likely stolen as well, in the process of being rebranded.



"Abang admitted to having ready buyers on standby whom he has rebranded and sold over 16 stolen vehicles to in the past four years. Abang is now in custody and will be charged to court following further investigations.

King West, son of popular Lagos transport leader MC Oluomo, has stirred reactions on social media after sharing a photo of his father with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday November 6, 2024 arrested two men in Abuja over suspected cases of money laundering and internet-related crimes.

The suspects, Joshua Ndu and Michael Uchenna were arrested at Al-Gamji Estate in Guzape axis of the FCT, following intelligence linking them to the criminal activities.

Items recovered from Ndu are: Mercedes Benz E350 2019 model, Range Rover 2016 model, an Apple laptop, iPhone 15 Pro Max, a Cartier wristwatch, and two necklaces, while items recovered from Uchenna are, iPhone 12 Pro Max and one Apple Macbook pro laptop.

A 37-year-old married man and father of four, Mr Emmanuel Ighoruemu has been arrested for defilling an 8-year-old girl in the Egbo community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state.

Activist, Kelvin Ejumudo, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, November 3, 2024, said the suspect confessed to the police to have defiled the minor more than once.

According to Ejumudo, the suspect and the victim's parents are friends and neighbours.

“The little girl's parent took her to the house of Mr Emmanuel and traveled for a day trip only for him to forcefully defiled the minor in his matrimonial bedroom and threatened to kill her if she ever tells anyone about it and offered her 500 Naira which the little girl rejected,” he wrote.

"I got a distress call from the family of the little girl and immediately swung into action to arrest Mr Emmanuel Ighoruemu. He’s currently cooling off in the cell of the Nigeria Police Force Ughelli area command of Delta state and he will be charged to court on Wednesday 6th November 2024.

The Nigerian movie industry has again been thrown into mourning following the passing of movie director, Dimeji Ajibola.

The deceased who was behind the popular series Shanty Town, has passed away in the early hours of today November 3 after battling an undisclosed illness.

Ajibola was celebrated as a creative force and a visionary in the entertainment industry, blending traditional and digital art forms in groundbreaking ways.

His work spanned film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.

He held a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.

He was the brain behind the 2012 urban musical film, Hoodrush that won multiple awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.

The bid by members of an international drug syndicate that operates between Brazil, Ethiopia and Nigeria to smuggle into Lagos a total of 845 wraps of cocaine weighing 18.72 kilograms has been thwarted and the consignments recovered by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja.



A statement released on Sunday, November 3 by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, says the drug consignments worth Four Billion Four Hundred and Ninety-Two Million Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N4,492,800,000) in street value were recovered from two lavatories of an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft during the post landing cleaning of the cabin of flight ET900 from Addis Ababa to Lagos on Tuesday 29th October 2024.



The illicit drug consignments were wrapped in nine polythene bags and hidden in the waste collectors in the two rear lavatories of the aircraft, from where they were recovered after the MMIA Strategic Command of NDLEA was alerted about the strange objects. No fewer than 30 suspects have so far been grilled in connection with the seizure.



Investigations revealed that the seized drugs were conveyed from Brazil to Ethiopia through ingestion and excreted in Addis Ababa by a set of couriers while some other traffickers picked them up and attempted to smuggle them into Nigeria through the Lagos airport before their attempt was frustrated with the cooperation of the airline’s authorities and other airport stakeholders.



In the same vein, attempts by some drug trafficking syndicates to export 2.928kg cocaine, cannabis and tramadol 225mg concealed in body cream containers, and pieces of art work to Australia, United Arab Emirate and United Kingdom through some courier companies in Lagos were also blocked by NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, DOGI, on Monday 28th October.

Gunmen have k!lled a mother, Mrs Mary Jonathan and her son, Mark Jonathan, in Plateau State.

A member of the House of Representatives from Plateau State, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, who confirmed the incident said the victims are his mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

Details of the incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but it was gathered that they were murdered in Hwollaza Zaria road, Jos. Mother and son were laid to rest at the family home in Jos on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Gagdi, who represents Pankshin/Kanm/Kanke federal constituency, shared photos from the funeral, describing the murder as violent and senseless acts.

“Today, alongside my wife Jemimah, we laid to rest her mother, Mrs. Mary Jonathan, and our brother, Mark Jonathan, who were tragically taken from us by violent and senseless acts. We honour their memories, pray and seek for justice. Rest well, Mama and Brother Mark. May God Almighty expose the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” he wrote.

“It is appointed unto every soul to taste death, but yours, regrettably, came through the barrel of some trigger happy men of the underworld. Nothing would have captured the vanity of human existence better than your senseless murders, alongside your son and my brother, Mr Mark Jonathan. Your tragic murder has created a vacuum in our lives, as we will miss your motherly love and care. Rest well Mama and may God Almighty expose the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Adieu mama!”

‘’Those that are not criminally liable under the law, those are the ones that are below the age of seven. Once you are more than seven, you can be charged to court, The only thing is that you have to follow certain procedures to do that. None of them is less than seven. I think the youngest should be 13. The fact that you are a 13 year old doesn't mean you cannot be charged to court. In the Children and Young Persons act, we can still charge you to court.

The acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has assumed office.

Oluyode was appointed as the acting Army boss by President Tinubu on October 30.


Oluyede will serve as the COAS until the return of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is currently sick and undergoing treatment abroad.

Until his appointment, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna. The 56-year-old Oluyede and Lagbaja were course mates and members of the 39th Regular Course. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1992, effective from 1987. He rose to Major-General in September 2020.

Oluyede has held many commands since his commissioning as an officer. He was Platoon Commander and adjutant at 65 Battalion, Company Commander at 177 Guards Battalion, Staff Officer Guards Brigade, Commandant Amphibious Training School. He is married and has three children.
